This 4th installment brings Hornig/Pawlitz’s A House Divided graphic novel series to its exciting conclusion. A fairly complete summary of the first 3 volumes, printed in text at the start, allowed me to start with #4 with only a little difficulty as I knew the basic plot and the main characters names and role in the story, but I wasn’t sure of what they looked like! After a bit, I was able to put faces with names reasonably well and drawn into the battle between good and evil with the prize being a mansion home and a set of magical keys. The pacing of this well-illustrated graphic novel is fast, but with so many characters and each of them having a back story, some readers may be confused by who is on the side of good and who is not. Given the constant, but bloodless, battling and the one “damn” in the dialogue, care-givers will need to determine this book’s value for their readers, but those readers are likely to love this fantasy series. The publisher and three professional reviews place the first in the series as geared to ages 12 and up, with one conservative source even saying 9th grade.
Thanks for the print ARC, Lerner Publishing/Graphic Universe.
