Dara Girard is a national bestselling and award-winning author. After many novels in various sub-genres from contemporary to paranormal romance, women’s fiction, and non-fiction Ms. Girard continues to win readers with each new book.

I was born many years ago in the American Midwest to a brave immigrant couple who decided to call themselves my parents. They moved around the country until they finally settled in Maryland. As a child I was always scribbling something and my family supported my efforts (with white knuckles and a lot of prayer).

After graduating from college, I worked various jobs and did some freelance writing hoping that one day my writing efforts would make me rich and famous and allow me to quit. That didn’t happen. Instead my last job was made redundant and I decided not to look for a new one. Instead I chose to live on my savings (and mild insanity) and write full time.

I would not recommend this route for other aspiring writers. Either marry well or have three years worth of salary saved. I took the risk because I wanted to and fortunately that same year I received an offer from a publisher for a two book contract–after a thirteen year effort, but that’s another story.

A Cinderella Story

This is definitely a 'fairy tale' romance. And I LOVED it! At times it had me LOL and at other times I needed to pull out the tissues. But I couldn't put it down until I was finished, it only took 1/2 day. I thoroughly enjoyed the growing attraction between Alex and Izzy. I enjoyed the way he could see something in her that no one else seemed to notice, until after he helped her come out of her shell and stop being invisible. I enjoyed the bullying from Alex and the name calling from Izzy, yet despite this they were able to rekindle their friendship and build on it after so many years apart. I also enjoyed the detailed development of the supporting characters, her sisters were something else. It was just a sweet, cute, funny, romantic 'Cinderella' tale.

It's a turnabout in "The Glass Slipper Project" by Dara Girard. Four sisters who lived in a mansion find themselves penniless. Alex, the boy whose mother worked for this family returns rich. He decides to buy back the big house. At their wits end, the sisters make a plan. One will marry Alex. Then, the other three sisters can move back into the house. All four will live happily together with fewer worries and the family will have become bigger.

However, like all plans made on the fly everything begins to fall apart. This is when the author brings in lots of unexpected circumstances. "The Glass Slipper Project" fills with surprise after surprise. One surprise is who will marry whom. In other words who will win Alex's heart and his friend, Tony's heart. I liked Isabella the best of all. She thinks of herself as invisible. As the story goes on, Isabella seems to lose more than the other sisters. All of her dreams fall apart.

I also liked the way characters changed their attitudes throughout the story. Mrs. Lyons, the lady who Isabella works for changes suddenly. Her change of mind hurts Isabella. Alex whom I loved had a real attack of anger. After he shows his temper, I might have begun to take everything he said too seriously.

I did feel that at times the sisters seemed too sweet. If only they had shown as much emotion as Alex and the rich lady or as much feline emotion as Nicodemus, the cat. However, as the situation worsens for Isabella the sisters begin to show their true hearts. It's a fun, sad, interesting romance.

I really liked the concept of the book but it seems like there were just too many holes in the story. Too many issues that didn't even get addressed let alone resolved.
