Farthingdale Ranch #6

The Trail Boss and the Brat

Rate this book
Even a rugged heart can be broken, but can it find love again?

After a fierce betrayal, Quint closes off his heart, walking the earth alone. He can’t trust anyone, even if they need him. He can’t, he just can’t.

He’s designed his life to follow a steady, even cadence. There are rules.

Rule Number One - Don’t mess with Quint.
Rule Number Two - Don’t disobey Quint on a trail ride.
Rule Number Three - Don’t ever forget rule 1 or rule 2.

Then along comes Ashley, who doesn’t follow any rules, especially ones that keep him from getting exactly what he wants.

A gay m/m cowboy romance with opposites attract, fish out of water, grumpy/sunshine, rugged meets bratty. A little sweet, a little steamy, with a guaranteed HEA.

Jackie North

Jackie North has been writing stories since grade school and spent years absorbing the mainstream romances that she found at her local grocery store. She also wanted to put her English degree to good use and write romance novels, because for years she’s had a never-ending movie of made-up love stories in her head that simply wouldn’t leave her alone.

As fate would have it, she discovered m/m romance and decided that men falling in love with other men was exactly what she wanted to write books about.

She creates characters who are a bit flawed and broken, who find themselves on the edge of society, and maybe a few who are a little bit lost, but who all deserve a happily ever after. (And she makes sure they get it!)

She likes long walks on the beach, the smell of lavender and rainstorms, and enjoys sleeping in on snowy mornings. She is especially fond of pizza and beer and, when time allows, long road trips with soda fountain drinks and rock and roll music. In her heart, there is peace to be found everywhere, but since in the real world this isn’t always true, Jackie writes for love.

Even though I enjoyed this story well enough, I felt cheated because I didn't get the story I was expecting. Let's be frank. Quint likes rough sex. He likes to be in control and he likes to leave marks. We've known this since Brody's story. Then along comes Ashley, the "brat" he didn't even know he was looking for. With Jackie North's ability to craft a heartfelt story with just the right amount of spice for each relationship dynamic, you can imagine the type of story I thought I was going to get.

The problem was that Ashley really wasn't much of a brat at all, and I never got to see that aggressively sexual side of Quint. I expected Dom activities, people! What I got was a little spanking and the most forgettable sex scenes ever. Talk about disappointing. 😔

The nonsexual aspect of their relationship was a little better, but I wanted to see more interactions and conversations between them. This story had A LOT of internal monologue, especially in the first half. Even during conversations, there'd be one line of dialogue followed by a whole paragraph or two of internal thoughts before a response is given. And maybe it's just me, but it felt like Brody and Kit's relationship to Quint was given way too much time in this story. Yes, Quint thinks of them as his sons, but it didn't need to be reiterated over and over again.

And since I've brought them up, what the heck is going on with them? Are they even still a couple? The dynamic they had in The Wrangler and the Orphan was completely gone in this story. Instead, you'd have thought they were just teenaged brothers eager for the affection of their uncle or something. Quint kept referring to them as his sons, and that was exactly how they behaved in relation to each other. It was weird seeing to them like that. Just like it was weird hearing Ashley refer to them as "the boys" when talking to Quint.

As I'm writing this review, I'm liking this story less and less. 😅 I'm sad to be giving this story such a low rating, but I can't see giving it any more than 2 stars. I'll still have fond memories of this series - why can't this ranch be an actual place to vacation?! 😭 , and I'm still going to check out The Farthingdale Valley series. It's just a shame that the final novel ended on such a low note for me. 💜❤️

4.5 “I just want to be with you.” stars

Brief summary
Quint is starting a new event at the ranch where he works, where he’s taking some guests on a trail ride around the ranch. One of the guests for that event happens to be Ashley, a man from a famous family who doesn’t really enjoy his life. They clash a little at first because they come from very different backgrounds, but they end up falling in love.

There is something about these kinds of books that just really works for me, the books where a big part of it happens on a ranch, during a particular moment in time where the main characters are on an adventure together and they are just living in nature and going through the weather and other events. I just love this entire set up and I really enjoyed the setup was done in this book, it worked so well for me.

Quint was in love once before and he thought that all of his dreams of settling down and having a family had come true and then he got wrongly accused of doing something and he lost it, he had to give up on all of his dreams and he had to move to the ranch to find a new life so he is very wary of falling in love again and he doesn’t want to. I really enjoyed how Quint came to the realization that he wanted Ashley and that he wanted to try to have everything with him, that part of the book just really worked for me.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between Quint and Ashley. I liked how It started as them clashing because they are so different from each other and didn’t really understand each other. I liked how Quint wanted to discipline Ashley because Ashley was a brat at times. Their dynamic just really worked for me and I loved it.

This book kind of broke me. I cannot tell you how much I cried. I spent so much time while I was reading this book just crying my eyes out because I felt so much for the characters. I really cared for them, and I just wanted them to be alright and every trial they went through just made me cry so much.

The way their relationship built just really worked for me, I really appreciated every second they spent getting to know each other and how they fell in love, that just really worked for me.

This book was just so emotional but also super hopeful at the same time and everything about this book really worked for me.

I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest opinion.

I've been avoiding reading this book for the longest time because I haven't been ready for this series to be over. I'm still not ready for it to be over but I'm also so happy. This series is everything. I love all of these guys and I'm going to be coming back for many, many rereads. Thank you, Jackie North for writing one of my all time favorite series.

As always, my heart broke in the beginning of the book and then it slowly got pieced back together by the beauty of the story and Jackie North's poetic writing.

eh... not really sure how to rate this one. The writing style was very matter of fact. statement after statement. More tell, less show. Not my kind of style.

Quint's history is... a little unbelievable. An English prof whose bf's ex gf sabotages him and his career paying one of his students to accuse him of rape and getting him to lose his job and get blackballed in town.. then his ex seeing all the PROVEN evidence defends not Quint but the ex...

Wow, what a crazy ex on both sides.

But then the English prof wanders around to rodeos and does odd work and rescue 2 boys from abusive fathers to have them like his own sons...

Eh??

Then, he somehow wanders and does work on adventure trail at a ranch during summers which is where he meets rich guest Ashley and they huddle naked together to survive a flash flood inside a cave... and...

You see where I'm going with this? Soooooo unbelievable!

BTW, Ashley is whatevs. Quint is the interesting one.

Oh, and he has one-night stands, rough sex and has a reputation for being great in bed. And he likes to spank ppl and have them obey him.

Wow. It's just so complicated. Without any reason to be other than the author covering for not a whole lot in the connective romance dept.

The Trail Boss and the Brat is a beautifully written, emotionally charged age gap love story featuring Quint and Ashley. They're amazingly drawn, multi-faceted characters. Absolute opposites, yet both wounded, lost souls who gradually find healing in each other. Both kind and insightful, and I loved their connection, their honesty and their willingness to be vulnerable with each other. Watching their growth together and blending of needs, their openness and give-and-take, seeing them working together for their own, special HEA made their romance immensely touching.

Truly delightful, well-written and full of feelings, The Trail Boss and the Brat sucks you into the world of Farthigdale Ranch. It is a world of hard work and appreciation for nature. It's family and home, and a place that brings me great joy to visit.

4.5 stars The final book in the Farthingdale ranch series.
Quint was waiting for the guest to arrive so they could start their 3 day trail ride. ooh I loved the start yah I somehow think the 3 rules won't hold.
This has Quint's story of his life up to the point his first meet with Bill, jobs and then meeting Brody.
Ashley 21 yrs was fulfilling his Aunts last wish for him to have a vacation at Farthingdale ranch even if it was to get away from his family.
A not so good start as Ashley rocks up at the ranch late. Aand things go wonky fast as scenes playout but it changes things for them after. Danger involved and so was confined space..lol which just may test Quint's patience.
I loved the chemistry between them and I had a laugh at a few scenes as Ashley gets his much much more sending sparks flying. Ashley has a great personality that's perfect for Quint. A great story for them both to complete the series.

THE TRAIL BOSS AND THE BRAT is the sixth and final book in the Farthingdale Ranch series and we finally get Quint's story.

Quint is set in his ways and tells himself that Brody and Kit are all he needs. Ashley, a poor little rich boy-brat, arrives on the scene to shake that belief. Ashley has lost the only person who believed in him and encouraged him to be his own person. She left him a gift of time at Farthingdale Ranch. He books up but doesn't pay attention to what is required of him, leading to a dangerous situation for him and Quint.

This does allow them time to get to know each other, though. Quint realises there may be more to Ashley than he first thought and soon starts to imagine all the possibilities life may be offering him.

This was a great finale to the series and also offered up an answer to what happened to two characters from a book that links to this series. I loved that part! I'd always wanted to know and thought I never would. I will admit to my eyes leaking at that part!

A great end to a fantastic series. Brilliant stories, one and all, and absolutely recommended by me.

I had a hard time getting into it at first but at the end of the day I liked it. A thing that does irk me in a way is that the relationship between Quint and Kit in this book does have the parent/child connotations that it should have had in the wrangler and the orphan, which would have benefitted more that book rather than the paternalistic feelings that icked me so much coming from Brody and Quint acting like the uncle who likes to make jokes that range between unfunny to mean towards Kit. It would feel more natural had it developed there, but no. Kit and Brody suddenly are lovers only and Quint acting like their guardian as if it was something pre-established, when it wasn't what came across in the book where it should've. It does have a million times of a better vibe though.

The nod to the love across time series was fun, I hadn't noticed until now

I didn’t think any books in the series would displace Jasper’s and Ellis’ story as my favorite, but I think this one did. As the final book in the Farthingdale Ranch series, it finally explained everything about the elusive Quint, introduced a wonderful new character in the form of Ashley, and tied up some loose ends that connect with other books of Jackie’s.

Quint’s story is heartbreaking. Ashley’s story isn’t earthshattering, but can be viewed as just as bad, or even worse. Two men, broken in different ways, with vastly different backgrounds and attitudes, are thrown together in a high stress situation, and find that their tenuous connection is worth everything.

The characters are beautiful, the new and the old who continue to star in the books. The story was smooth, a little fast, but complete. And the epilogue, then the afterword by the author? Perfection.
I’ll miss this series; each book, and the series as a whole, was wonderful and entertaining.

We are first given a quick retelling of how Quint rescued Brody, and our stage is set.
The Farthingdale Ranch is run by Leland, and Quint works as the trail boss. Guest Ashley starts off on the wrong foot, by showing up late for his week, that his Aunt Nina paid for before she died.
* Ashley is 21, blonde, blue eyed, slim and full of sass.

His wealthy family home is a rough place for him, where he's looked down on and criticized.
* Quint, 40, is tall, muscled, steady and sure

on the wilderness rides. He loves the ranch, the peace, nature, and his young charges, Brody, 27, and Kit, 19, who he treats as sons.

I love the beautiful writing, the smooth flow, slow burn romance, and the intense descriptions that help us picture the scenes as if we are right there. We can put ourselves in the cave and through the rescue, and beyond. The cave has had an effect on Quint and Ashley, and those feeling don't go away, but intensify. They are pulled to each other even more, and find out that Ashley's not a brat.

A deal is struck that has Quint and Ashley working together at the ranch. The daily tension is the slow burn moving forward, with raw emotions, many questions, and the minds are searching as our guys are struggling along. Their sex is red hot and passionate. (spankings)

This is a magnificent story, with fabulous characters and settings. I loved it ! I didn't want it to end.

When Ashley told the ghost story his Aunt passed on to him, of Old Joe, to Bill - the story-teller, we get the feeling we are going to hear more from this bunch.

ENJOY !

A perfect ending of this amazing series. We learn about Quint's background and why he became the man he is today. But opening his heart to first Brody and then Kit makes him wondering and hoping if he could find love again when he and Ashley find themselves both changed by their adventure and survival. It's not an easy ride to find the finish line when one is to proud to admit and the other to scared to stand up for himself. They manage to overcome their issues and find their hea. All series must come to an end and with this final book the author made a sweet closure and a want to visit this range and meet all characters. It's also worth reading the bonus scene in which we see the new family heading off to their winter spot close to the Ocean

This is bittersweet because finishing this book meant finishing the series, and it’s a series I don’t want to end. 🥺

After a rather horrid work week, well honestly, a couple horrid work weeks, I needed something to take my mind off of everything that was causing me to borrow under my covers. Learning about Quint and his past was a highlight. I also wanted to fight the people in his past that betrayed him, but in the end, that helped lead him to Brody who led him to Kit, and they turned out to be his first found family members.

Queue all the squeals of happiness from the sheer adorable image this conjures up. When Ashley was introduced it was obvious that Quint finally met his true match. He finally got his full on happy ending. Quint was so deserving of it, however, so was Ashley. They both found it hard to trust in people, yet could not tempt fate when it came to falling in love and in trust with each other.

Reading about Quint adding another member to his found family was just what I needed, and I could not be more thankful for Jackie North in creating such a fantastic series of men who fall in love. I love love. ❤️

I've really enjoyed the entire Farthingdale Ranch series. In this book, Quint gets his story and his love. He meets a guest, Ashley, who at first seems to be a rich, spoiled brat. Of course, no one is that simple and both men have experienced a lack of love in their lives. Early on, they spend several days together in isolation and, despite the difference in backgrounds, they feel drawn to each other. As the series culminates, we also get to check back on most of the other MCs in the series.

I love the writing style of this series - measured, deeply emotional, spare in some ways, and passionate. Although standalones, each book is woven with storylines from the ones before and this book is the perfect end cap. Farthingdale Ranch is a special place characterized by mutual respect, deeply abiding friendships, family, and lifelong love. This is one of those series I'll truly miss.

As i read the last line in the bonus scene of the “The Trail Boss and the Brat”, I shed a tear because reality has sunk that this is indeed the very last book of the “Farthingdale Ranch” series. The last book has come “Full Circle” and it was very fitting to wrap up the series that way. If you have read the first 5 books in the series and the prequel “Honey From the Lion”, you will understand what I mean. Not going to spoil it under any circumstances but ENCOURAGE you to read the prequel and the first 5 books before you read this one.

I love how Author Jackie North would have men from different walk of life end up at the Farthingdale Ranch. This one is no exception. However, the front cover is to die for, isn’t it!?!? I simply love the color choices and this hot trail boss stud used for the cover! Having a front cover that “pops” like this, the story has to be GOOD and Ms. North didn’t fail one iota!

This particular story is about Quint, the trail boss and how he opened his heart for this brat, Ashley who was simply a rich and entitled young adult brat. His heart had closed due to an unfortunate event in his past and it led him to Farthingdale Ranch. If you had read book 4, you will understand this backstory.

To find out how a brat can soften a grumpy boss’ heart, read this story! You’ll be glad you did! I am very glad I picked up the “The Blacksmith and the Ex-con” after someone recommended it. It led me to read the whole series and the prequel and I am so glad I had the opportunity to ride with the wonderful characters into the sunset!

Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. No matter how you far you run, life is full of circles..right!?!  This is Quint and Ashley's story where more then star gazing is just over the horizon!
As you start reading about Quint's past you become so heartbroken just in a few paragraphs. How his life is impacted by a hateful ex that does care of the damage left behind. To just way he shutters himself away, that he is unwilling to let anyone breech. Bouncing from one loss job to the next until he landed in the sights of a young Brody.
Everything that brings Ashley happiness, it seems is so beneath him or at least to his family standing. After all Ashley was the beat as his own drummet boy,  now no one was in his corner after the death of Aunt Nina. When a vacation away from His aunt Nina, to the mysterious ranch he grown-up hearing exciting stories about. Reality was far more exciting, in the form of a no rule breaking Quint. It all a show to get under Quint's spurs or was the boy really just a spoiled brat in need of just the right handler? Quint was bound to find out even if he had his own life disrupted.

I am beyond sad that this is the final book in the Farthingdale Ranch series. These guys have been a wonderful family, not just to each other, but to me and, I’m sure, numerous other readers. The love they share is profound and unbreakable. And even though their stories have come to an end, you can bet I will be revisiting them countless times.

Quint and Ashley have another wonderful love story set on this ranch. I loved the grumpy/sunshine, rugged meets bratty tropes. I adored Ashley knocking Quint - and his rules - for a loop. And to top it off is their amazing chemistry, perfectly balanced with sweet and tender moments. Beautiful, as always.

A rough cowboy, a rich young man unsure of his life…
First of all, I am starting by saying that I am so sad that this will be the last book in the Farthingdale Ranch series, I am saddened to leave the ranch crew behind (but I know whatever series Jackie North will come up with next will be a hit!).
I loved Quint and Ashley, so different from one another in age, disposition and wealth, yet so utterly perfect from one another. I especially fell in love with Quint, who has apparently closed himself off to all feelings after being completely betrayed as a trusting young man, and yet finds the will in his heart to open it to a makeshift family of lost boys, and ultimately to Ashley, who grew up rich and not wanting for anything, except for someone to really see him and help him find the direction in life he is so desperately in need of.

I tried but I found it frustrating. It seems I don’t like stories where you’re in the characters heads 98% of the time. There’s one sentence of dialogue for every three page flips on my phone. I guess I like the characters in a romance to talk and develop a relationship instead of this style. Quitting at 75% and honestly I skimmed most of that because there’s no plot and it’s just angsty thoughts.

It was a strange experience to be opening the first page of the last Farthingdale Ranch novel. There is no way I would have ever guessed after the first book in this series that I would become so invested in the people who find solace and love on the Ranch.

I have been anticipating the enigmatic Quint’s story for a while now, knowing that there was much more to the seemingly hard and surly trail boss; his interactions with Brody and Kit alone demonstrated that his hard shell was simply that, a shell.

Jackie North, the crafty writer that she is, had a surprise for us and created a backstory for Quint that is simply heartbreaking! The Trail Boss who has, up until now, been presented as a cowboy travelling from rodeo to rodeo before settling down at the Ranch, is So. Much. More! A twist for this final book is that it is two hearts that need to heal in this story. Quint is as broken, if not more so than Ashley, who has his own troubles to sort out.

With echoes to the prequel "Honey from the Lion," it seems the magic of the Iron Mountain and the asteroid shower is at work bringing echoes of John and Laurie together again. I'll admit I became more than a little teary as Ashley revealed more and more knowledge of John and Laurie, and when it's finally revealed how he knows the story of Old Joe and his little red fox, well I had to grab tissues! One of the most emotional scenes (in a good way) was Ashley’s interaction with Bill over the Old Joe story; it certainly brought a tear to my eye! My guess is that those who haven't yet read Honey From the Lion will certainly be seeking it out. For what it's worth, grab the audio for the ultimate experience!!

Jackie North is a master of imagery, and these skills are put to use in The Trail Boss and the Brat. The Ranch is now familiar after five books in this series, each with their beautifully detailed descriptions of the landscape. However, in Trail Boss, we see the Ranch in less than favourable conditions. First, the awesome power of the flash flood (which was a little close to home for some of us in Australia right now), and then depictions of the devastation the waters caused upon the landscape. Not all is lost, though, as what is left behind is also the key to the land's regeneration.

To me, this was a perfect metaphor for Quint's life. Quint was caught in his own flash flood by people he should have been able to trust, putting into motion actions that he could not have predicted. The resulting devastation leaves him floundering until he chances upon Brody. Quint's regeneration begins with Brody, then later Kit. Ultimately, it is Ashley that completes his healing, but he would not have been open to Ashley without Brody and Kit. Together the four of them are a whole, a family.

It is such a bittersweet experience to turn the final page of what has been a unique and remarkable series. The heart of the Farthingdale Ranch is its characters, and the men of the Ranch have been so beautifully developed that they live and breathe on the page, and after six books, they are very real indeed.

The Trail Boss and the Brat is a fitting end to this series, and it is my hope that the author will someday return to this world in some form. Jackie North is to be commended in creating an engaging story arc in a captivating world with genuinely lovable characters that had had a powerful impact, at least on this reader.

The Trail Boss and the Brat. Ashley, Quint, Brody, Kit at Leland ranch. ⭐️⭐️⭐️It was good, but had a way too laid back vibe about the passion that should have been pretty explosive considering these are two opposite attracts. One a former man ho, rough and rugged cowboy, and the other a virginal poor little rich boy. I didn’t think he was bratty.
The sex was more like comfortable and comforting. I needed something more.

I’ve enjoyed this series and I’m sad this is the final book. Throughout the series, Quint has always been an interesting and supportive character who doesn’t share anything about his past, and I loved reading his story. As well as meeting Ashley, I also enjoyed seeing characters from previous stories from other perspectives.

Quint and Ashley at first glance might seem to have not much in common, but they’re both men who have shut themselves off to protect their hearts. I liked that, although they are opposites, they’re also very similar in a lot of ways, and just what the other needs so they can both reach their potential. I felt for both of them and the way they’ve been betrayed by loved ones. While Quint hides behind a gruff exterior, Ashley’s sunshine persona is a way to deflect the outside world from who he really is.

Although Ashley’s aunt doesn’t appear in the story, I loved how she is still very much a part of his life. Even after she dies, she shows that she understands the real him, and gifts him the very thing he needs to live his life the way he’s meant to. His mother and brother are horrible and self centred and he’s better off without them. Part of me wanted Quint to meet them and give him a piece of his mind, but it’s probably a good thing he didn’t.

I loved how, once they get a glimpse of who each other really is, they’re both drawn to a person they’ve realized they could easily grow to love. Their relationship is interesting as, although it’s very equal, loving, and protective, Quint provides exactly what Ashley needs—someone to take charge, but for all the right reasons. And Ashley shows Quint that it’s okay to trust someone to look after him, and that Quint has plenty to offer.

The found family feel of everyone at the ranch is wonderful, and I like the friendships that deepen with each book. I especially like how Quint, Brody, and Kit have become a family, and how far Kit has grown in such a short time. It brings home the difference of being with people who love and support him has made. It amused me that the anti-fraternisation rule, or lack thereof, is mentioned.

I especially loved the full circle connection of this story with Laurie’s disappearance in Honey from the Lion. It’s the perfect way to end this series, while leaving it open ended for revisiting Farthingdale, given the planned expansion.

I can’t believe this series has ended! This is the sixth and final book of the Farthingdale Ranch series and clearly, the author has saved the best for last.

We got to know a bit about Quint throughout the other five books, he was introduced in Book 1 – The Foreman and the Drifter. In this book though, we get to find out what really makes Quint tick. His backstory is heartbreaking, and it’s clear why Quint is closed-off and methodical. He won’t give up his hard-won control for anyone.

When Ashley shows up at the ranch, Quint takes one look at the privileged, bratty young man and instantly decides he will be trouble. Ashley puts himself in a very dangerous situation and Quint is able to rescue him. They are put in a position of forced proximity which allows them time to get to know one another just enough for animosity to turn into interest.

Ashley needs someone to trust his tender heart to and Quint needs someone to melt the ice he has surrounded himself with. They manage to break down each other’s barriers and find love and joy with each other.

Although this is the last book in the series, it wraps up many story lines from the previous books and leaves the reader with a full heart knowing that all of the characters we’ve come to love will have their HEA, including Quint and Ashley. Bonus points for Airstreams, found family and a ranch I want to visit, if only in my dreams.

Very intriguing

* * * SPOILERS * * *

Book six of the Farthingdale Ranch series focuses on Quint finally getting his HEA. Quint is a tough as nails man who believes that rules on the ranch should be followed and are there for everyone's safety. He finds love in a complicated man named Ashley who would rather play a part for the world then show them who he really is and has a habit of ignoring rules.
They are exact opposites in a lot of ways but so similar in others. Makes the chemistry the characters share make you want to keep reading.
I was very suprised how the "legend" bill told and the story Ashley claimed to be family history turned out. I mean we've gotten little tid bits here and there, but I never expected that. Well done.
Other than a couple of parts where it seems Quint repeats himself about his past with Brody and the fact that We never learn what happens with his mother (I mean come on he just ignores her? Theres no closure there lol), this was an excellent book. It's worth reading as is the whole series.

Surprise Ending

We've all been waiting for Quint's tale and here he is on the cover ready to roll. However, how he comes to get involved with spoiled rich boy Ashley took me by surprise and, quite frankly, jerked my chain a little.

That's because we'd been exposed to Quint and his exquisite handling of Brody and Kit, young men from completely different backgrounds and circumstances than Ashley's. I just wasn't expecting this kind of set-up for the final fling at Farthingdale.

More particularly, it is how Quint comes to accept and then fall for Ashley that just didn't work for me. However, all things considered, it's still a very good wind up to a series which never failed to please.

I can't believe this is the last story in the Farthingdale Ranch series :( I spent so many beautiful moments with those sexy cowboys.

This is Quint's story and I am soooo glad he finally found his happy ever after. We learn all about his past, stuff from before he met Brody and it was seriously HEARTBREAKING. He deserved so much better than Ryan and a broken heart.

This story is different from other Farthingdale books, the heat level is low, but it is far from a slow burn. Love declarations felt a little rushed and I wish MCs spend more time together, but nonetheless the romance was pretty awesome. I liked Quint from book #1 even though he was kinda emotionally unavailable and harsh. I liked Ashley from the moment he struggled with his aunt;s funeral. Yes, he was irresponsible and sometimes behaved like a spoiled kid, but at the same time he was very nice and determined not to obey anyone.
I have to admit I expected some more D/s or something similar. The mentions that Quint liked to control others, to discipline them, made me think of such preferences, but it's hard for me to say whether I was really disappointed or relieved :)

* I was gifted an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest review *

loved!!

Yay we finally got quints story!! After all the intrigue in Brody’s story you can’t help but want to get a HEA for the man responsible for saving Brody and helping to raise a fine man who the. Paid it forward and saved kit. Their little family is built by love not blood, but that doesn’t make it any less powerful. Loved how he and Ashley met. You get this vibe of a almost enemies to lovers. Ashley may have been a brat and spoiled but honestly I would have been bratty to someone who was so brash and almost rude as quint right off the bat for assuming things based off of money. Because beneath the polished fancy veneer Ashley just wanted to belong and was a man who had grit and determination. Loved how he stood his ground to his family. You get mild bdsm elements of spanking and other punishments. Mostly to help ground Ashley while dealing With his life. Loved how kit Brody and Ashley rallied around an injured quint and their little family helped him heal. Great story.

The Trail Boss and the Brat is Book 6 in the Farthingdale Ranch series. I love this series and this book is a wonderful addition and a wonderful ending to the series. It brings the series full circle. Quint and Ashely don't seem like they would be good together, but they are. Ashley is used to getting everything he wants but when his aunt dies and leaves him a vacation at Farthingdale Ranch he actually looks forward to getting away. His mother and brother expect Ashley to just fall in line and take his place with the family business but Ashley as other ideas. When the only opening at the ranch is going on an overnight trail ride experience, Ashley doesn't hesitant to take the spot. Quint is excited to finally get to lead an overnight roughing it trail ride. But there is so much he didn't expect. A last minute spoiled brat like Ashley, with no regard to the rules, being one. I loved watching Quint and Ashley's interactions. They both needed each other in different ways and it was nice to see their relationship develop. I definitely recommend this book and series. It's one to enjoy again and again and it's definitely not one to miss.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Such a superb read and wonderful finding each other love story.... From Quint & Ashley learning to like each other, learning to love each other, and the trials along the way makes for a wonderful, wonderful love story!!!! Quint learning to love again, Ashley learning to mature and open his heart to love was such an amazing journey of self exploration, growing up, letting others in, and learning love doesn't have to be giving up yourself, but, giving yourself to someone that will share life, and love in return, and make you a much better person!!! Farthingdale Ranch is such an amazing place, I only wish it was real, real enough to live there...But, I can every time I take one of the 6 Farthingdale books down and read it...The entire series is sooooo amazing, and worth purchase to always have in your library...and in your hearts!!!! I am only sad because this was the final story for Farthingdale, but, Jackie North, please expand and keep this life/love story going!!!! The Trail Boss and the Brat

Another loveable pair finds their HEA at the Farthingdale Ranch

Plot: Quint finally gets his HEA! So sad it’s the final Farthingdale Ranch story.
Feels: My heart ached for Quint when we learn of his past; really enjoyed following Ashley’s growth at the ranch; he truly is Quint’s perfect match
Drama: Potential nail-biting family drama for Ashley at the beginning that thankfully didn’t escalate like I thought it might (I really should trust Jackie North by now lol - she would never include gratuitous drama for the sake of drama). Was also glad most of Quint’s backstory was “off-page”
Heat: 2/5
Characters: Loved seeing more of Kit and Brody and their family relationship with Quint - just adorable!
Pacing: Slow-paced relationship building for the MCs
Length: Medium
Ending: HEA. The epilogue was Everything! I love how everything came full circle. I truly hope to revisit everyone at the Farthingdale Ranch in the near future (and I don’t mean a re-read)!
