It was a bit... graphic for me. If you aren't a surgeon, probably best to read this not near meals. I am so grateful for surgeons, but in retrospect, I'm not entirely sure I wanted a sneak peak into how he chose his profession and approaches it. Still, I learned a lot and I always appreciate scientific examination of trends and click bait ideas
I loved it. It was, admittedly, a lot more than it needed to be to make its point. I enjoyed it for that, but it’s true. I also found the editing around the neuro-myths to be confusing… sometimes it announced the myth it was debunking and sometimes it announced the correct reality.
Otherwise, this was a fun dive into brain science from an eloquent and knowledgeable source. Fun to read, informational, and encouraging. Would recommend to anyone who thinks stories about brain surgery might intrigue them.
I can definitely see why this book might not appeal to everyone. There’s quite a lot of medical jargon, vivid surgical details and blood… and that’s exactly my type of book I enjoy a lot.
It brings together strategies in a comprehensive, science-based way that's both insightful and practical.
Fascinating read. Easy to read with stories of real people who faced major trauma. Enjoyed reading his observations regarding smart drugs and stupid drugs.
The author, Dr. Jandial was likable and down-to-earth, not arrogant.
