Inversion 2 - Continuum

Rate this book
INVERSION 2 – the electrifying second book in the Inversion trilogy – is a high-stakes thriller of global power struggles, military conflict, psychological warfare, and the emergence of sentient artificial intelligence—humanity’s greatest hope, or its most unpredictable force.

Angela-Ana has stopped questioning the poison vial embedded in her body. Voktor still holds the trigger, but with each mission, she feels less like his pawn and more like his equal. Her latest assignment takes her deep into Rio de Janeiro’s underworld, where a billion-dollar construction project is the key to something far bigger. The target: Qadir, a man who, under different circumstances, could have been an ally. Whether Qadir denies his complicity in ritual religious murders or not, Angela-Ana is convinced he should die
.
Yet as the mission unfolds, Angela-Ana senses something shifting beneath the surface—something Voktor isn’t telling her.

Then he reveals the next stage of his plan: Taunia, a radical new nation rising from the ocean, its citizens handpicked from the world’s brightest minds. Floating high-tech cities will be their home, free from old-world corruption. And Angela-Ana will be their president. But Taunia’s greatest defense isn’t just its nuclear arsenal—it’s TAI, their rapidly evolving artificial intelligence. As TAI grows in power and sophistication, even Angela-Ana begins to wonder: is it a tool, a weapon, or something else entirely?

But the world is afraid. Governments see Taunia as a threat, an uncontrollable force reshaping the balance of power. As tensions mount, enemies emerge from the shadows—some expected, others shockingly close. The United States issues its ultimatum: surrender or be destroyed.

Yet Voktor remains unfazed. He anticipated this. He always anticipates. His uncanny ability to predict events borders on the supernatural, but Angela-Ana knows better—there is a secret behind his foresight, something more powerful and more dangerous than anyone suspects. And when the truth finally comes to light, it will change not just the future of Taunia, but the future of the world.

The first thing I realized was that the books in the Inversion trilogy are not stand alone, so they must be read in order to make any sense. Characters and events in Inversion 1 would appear or be referenced in Inversion 2, and I expect, Inversion 3. This is truly one large, and deeply imagined world...which I loved immersing myself in.

I like fiction that is grounded in reality. This one is. Political and technological topics are right now or near future when it comes to AI integration in all aspects of our lives. The characters live with deep physical and psychological wounds which they try to live with and overcome. By their example, this sends a message of hope. And hope is really what this series is about. Living life in a loving and compassionate way, even in the face of extreme horror...which sits comfortably next to unimaginable beauty. Such is our world. Next up, Inversion 3.

I’ll say right off that Inversion 1 hooked me on the story and the lead character, Angela Ana. Inversion 2 – Continuum did not disappoint. Picking up the timeline on the next beat, the sweep of the story expanded in totally unexpected ways. Angela, who is the empathetic center of this universe, did not lose her charm. In fact, we get a deeper dive into her persona now that she is…I won’t give it away. I love this woman in how she can be resourceful, vulnerable, coy, sometimes lost, calculating, and lethally, cold bloodily terrifying. The powerful conclusion of Inversion 2 opens the possibility of yet another huge advance to the story. I hope that Krozer is hard at work on Inversion 3.
