How do you mend a broken heart? If anyone has the answer let me know.
It’s been two years since I chose to turn my back on the one that got away. I thought I was doing the best for both of us. Instead, I’m fighting to forget what it felt like being in his arms.
Now it’s another summer, and this time, I’m surrounded by Rock Gods on Jake’s European tour. It’s the life most would dream of, but things are never that straight forward and a chance meeting with a stranger leaves me feeling torn.
Just when I think things can’t get any worse, I’m faced with one of the biggest decisions I’ll ever have to make.
They say the heart wants what it wants, but my heart wants two people at the same time.
**Always Us is Book 2 in the Always Series. The book is part of a trilogy and is not a standalone.**
Author Lizzie Morton is an author of Contemporary Romance and New Adult novels. She lives in the U.K with her partner and three children.
Previously she has worked as a Personal Trainer and Back Pain Specialist and trained as a Chef at Leeds City College.
Her first novel was originally just a note in her phone but became a full manuscript, ready for release in August 2020. When she isn’t reading or writing, her favourite things include running, snaffling and changing nappies.
Always Us by Lizzie Morton is a new adult love triangle music romance, is the second book in the Always series and is told from duel POVs.
Another enjoyable read from Lizzie Morton ! I enjoyed the characters and supporting characters with the return of their quirkiness and awkward situations. I also enjoyed the storyline, the ‘sightseeing’ and the duel POV of this book. However at times I did find myself occasionally skimming throughout the pages and not as engrossed in the story.
All in all I do recommend this series especially to those is you who like a fun and quirky read with a little angst.
We are going on tour. In the follow up to Always You, we are getting more of Jake and Abby’s story. Fast forward two years and Jake has used his stature to get Abby assigned to photograph his band's European tour.
Things are not all sunshine and lollipops, as the two are at odds. She wants distance, and he wants her back. These two excel in awkward situations. Enter another interested party, and things get interesting. Decisions mean someone gets hurt. Is Abby still Jake’s future?
Thank you to Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
This book did not disappoint in any way. Abby and Jake are thrown together on his European tour. She is trying to keep her distance but he is not having any of it. She meets someone else and has an instant connection. Jake is fighting for what he has always considered to be his future. Abby may have to make some hard decisions and someone will get hurt. Who will she choose?
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Always Us fast-forwards readers to two years after Abby West decides to move to South Africa for a job. She is a successful freelance photographer covering travel and exciting music tours. As it goes, Jake Ross, musician of the band SCARAB and her ex-boyfriend, decides that it's time to "finally fight" for Abby and found a way for her to cover his European tour. Upon finding Jake's intentions of having her come back to his life, Abby goes on the fence and keeps her distance while Jake does the total opposite. In helping Abby in getting her mind off her ex-boyfriend, another guy comes into the scene. Dan White, bandleader of another music band - Six Seconds to Barcelona (and part of the tour), has his eyes set on Abby's attention. What happens next is a summer of whirlwind bus rides, hotel rooms, and "bad decisions" that will bring in the excitement, heartaches, and drama of being in a close-knit group.
Told from both Jake and Abby's POV with a few flashbacks from Book 1, the story is written well and pulls readers in like behind-the-scenes of touring around Europe to the drama of Jake and Abby's friends and entourage. Readers can expect sparks, words, and actions to start flying as the complications surrounding Jake and Abby together for a whole summer. With dating two men and ex's fighting back, there is no shortage of jealousy and manipulations.
I am saying this with love and affection, but Jake is PATHETIC! After what he and Abby went through in the last book, you would think that he would get his head straight and start "changing for the better" for him and Abby. Nope - instead, after the end of the last book, Jake "goes off the rails," slacks off "to get over Abby," then demands her to part of his music tour as a way to get her back. Granted that he is trying to "fight for them," he makes the wrong decisions every time based on his anger, frustrations, and irrational thoughts about how Abby had both their interest at the forefront compared to him.
Abby is another frustrating character. I don't know who has the luck she has of having men (famous and rich) fall all over her and seeking "real relationships." She is truly a unique one! I understand her confusion but also had to keep in mind that she is not perfect. She has flaws and made poor decisions like any other human being. She is focused on moving on but couldn't fathom why she is failing. Well, maybe because her head and heart have not decided on anything yet, or has she? I wished she would own up to what she really wants in the end, but she is afraid of admitting it. She keeps running away from having to decide anything. She later gets a "moment of clarity" from the most unlikely people who made my jaw drop...the words and discussion between that character were brutal but honest.
There is a fantastic and memorable scene nearing the end where Abby does seek her help and "clarity." This scene comes as somewhat surprising since it hits closer to home. The office space described may leave readers surprised, not shocked if they have read Book 1. I was happy to see this throughout that chapter because of the clarity given to Abby in the end...though the ending is still killing me.
In summary, Always Us is an excellent read for second chance tropes, rock music genre readers like myself. Compared to Book 1, Always Us left me baffled and hanging. This book is a cliffhanger because of the impending things coming. With many things happening - two men are fighting for Abby, more secrets coming out, shifting alliances and unexpected relationships forming, etc. It was a good enough read and worth all the angst, drama, frustration, tears, and other emotions that the author brought out in me. I want to note that the "truth's backstory" was awful and cruel, but explained why Abby's and Jake's predicament. In the end, it isn't "the truth" that will get readers worked up but something else that happens, which will affect Jake and her futures. Book 3 cannot come fast enough after this ending!
Ok so I have a new series I’m obsessed with. I have been sucked so far into the world of Abby & Jake and I am absolutely desperate for the third book in this series!
I talk to Lizzie a lot as I’ve previously read an arc of another one of her books and we were chatting about this series and as I had time between arcs I decided to read them.. and I am sooooo glad I did!
This is a rockstar, second chance romance and it’ll give you all the feels. It follows Abby & Jake who have a short but passionate and love filled relationship at 17, Jake breaks Abby’s heart so she moves away for 6 years. They never forget about each other and are thrown back in to each other lives when Abby returns for a summer.
The fireworks and chemistry and tension that ensues is off the chart. Their relationship is undoubtably toxic but god you just want them to work! The second book sees them reunite again after another period apart and the feelings and attraction is still so strong. Throw in some obstacles and it was a crazy story.
I am fully fully engrossed in this story and I need the third book like yesterday. The rockstar trope is not one of my favourites generally but I loved this sooo much and I didn’t even care about that at all. I just fell in love with their love!
Lizzie, you have a huge fan in me and I would read your shopping list 🤣 now, GIMME THAT THIRD BOOK!
10/10!! Just like campbells, this book was mmm mmm good!!!!
I loved this book so much!!! The first book was good, but this was so much more. You finally get to find out what the secret was!!!!! It was faced paced and full of so much angst, without the teenage BS. There was a ton of will they, won't they... and you really get inside their heads. The character's growth and development in this book was great!
Jake... he was broody and possessive without being too dominating and in your face gross alpha. His softer sides balanced him out, so he became a really well rounded character! He knows what he wants and he is going for it, but it was nice to see him stand his ground and not get stomped all over by Abby.
Abby... The girl is struggling. You can feel her struggles and heartache through the book, her heart and mind seem to be at war and she is stuck in the middle. Despite everything going on, it was nice to see her push through and get out of her shell a bit. I know the third book will bring her to a whole new level!
The best friends are something else, including the new addition! I love how it started with the two of them up to their same shit, I was in tears laughing! I see good things coming their ways... Maybe even their own book ??? 🤷🏻♀️ Those girls deserve their own story!! *hint hint, Lizzie!!!!* Every other character in this book was written in amazingly too, I could do 10 posts on how I feel about each character, but I will spare you!
The B (said lovingly❤) did leave us on a cliffhanger of sorts, and I hate her and love her for it. It was poetic how it ended, and if you've read the first book, you will understand why. This book was everything it needed to be and everything I didn't know I needed. 10/10!!
🎸 It doesn't matter how far or who you run to. It doesn't matter how much time passes. You will always be mine and I will always be yours. There will always be an us 🎸
🎸 It’s been two years since Abby chose to turn her back on the one that got away. She thought she was doing the best for both of us. Instead, she has been fighting to forget what it felt like being in his arms. Now it’s another summer, and this time, she is surrounded by Rock Gods as Jake drags her along on Jake’s European tour. It’s the life most would dream of, but things are never that straight forward and a chance meeting with a stranger leaves Abby feeling torn between the boy she loved and moving on 🎸
🎸Jake and Abby back at it again 😃 Had some time apart, starting successful careers, learning nothing about moving on from each other 😁 She tries to maintain a distance from him but Jake isn't having it and pursues her to win her back which was frustrating because he continued to withhold information from her and treat her with a frosty attitude 😒 It was nice to see not only the extra POV from Jake but also the flashbacks for Jake as well as Abby 😌 and it definitely gave more insight into why he keeps his cards and emotions close and doesn’t share them, but that definitely isn’t helping him keep the one person in his life that he wants 😢 it was sad to see him wait so long, maybe even too long, to tell Abby the truth about their past only because she had another romantic interest 😑 throughout the book I wanted Abby to throw herself into the new romance with the more famous Rockstar caused by Jake’s selfishness 😆 I am excited for book 3 to see how we finish this love triangle, extra secrets, successful careers all goes on, particularly with every player living in different countries 😄😄
Thankyou to the author for sending me a copy of this to read and review for book 3 to be released in November 🥰
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review thanks to Lizzie.
How long does it take to mend a broken heart? If anyone has the answer, let me know.
It’s been two years since I chose to turn my back on the one that got away. I thought I was doing the best for both of us and it was supposed to help us move forward. Instead, I’m more confused than I’ve ever been before, fighting to forget what it felt like being in his arms.
Now, it’s another summer and another life-changing opportunity. But this time I’m running around Europe, surrounded by Rock Gods. It’s the life most would dream of, but things are never that straightforward.
Following on from the story in Always You, we catch up with Abby and her friends as they travel around Europe. In this book we get more insight into Abby and Jake’s history, whilst still feeling connected to the friends.
I read this book in one day, as I couldn’t bring myself to put my kindle down. If you enjoyed the first one in the series, you will love this book.
Rating 5/5
I can’t wait for the final part of the series after that ending!
"It doesn't matter how far or who you run to. It doesn't matter how much time passes. You will always be mine and I will always be yours. There will always be an us."
^ And this is the crux of Jake and Abby's love story. It doesn't matter if Dan comes into the picture, it doesn't matter if Amanda is back sniffing around, and it doesn't matter if neither Jake nor Abby can pull their head out of their asses and just FALL, because no matter what, distance or stubbornness be damned, they will always just "BE." They belong together. I'm rooting for Abby to finally see it. I think she will in Book 3, "Always." I loved that her father finally did.
"I shouldn't have stopped you from following her. I know that now and I'm sorry. Whatever this is between you and Abby, it's as real as it gets, and it's messy, because love is."... [f]ight with everything you have left, and when you're done, if you really love my daughter, fight some more."
Lizzie, you have me on the edge of my seat here, I can't wait to read Always!
I did read this book in about 3 days, however I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first book! This time round I found Abby annoyed me more often than not…can’t quite put my finger on why but I just found her a bit meh this time round. Her parents (especially dads) involvement in her relationship with Jake is too much for a 26 year old (24 if you include what dad done at the end of book 1)! I liked having Jakes POV, was a good little insight into him. And I loved the addition of Sooz, the 4 girls behave more like sisters than friends and their little snips at each other are amusing. Also looking forward to more from Zoe & Shaun, and hopefully someone comes along for Sophie (inkling that might be Sam) Very much looking forward to book3 so hopefully - finally Abby & Jake get their HEA!
The second book in the series continues Abby and Jake's story. The author once again brings a cast of strong characters and does a fantastic job painting her scenes. The first book was told in Abby's POV while this one brings Jake's also. The story continues their push and pull relationship as she brings out all the feels and takes them on an emotional journey trying to figure out their place with one another. It's a love/hate type romance that had me glued to the pages right to the end and still left me with wanting more. I'' be anxiously waiting for the next book to see what happens between them. I'm loving the is series!! Highly recommend reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
I think it’s more of a me problem, but I’m not so great with so much indecision. The back and forth felt toxic and Abby annoyed me with knowing her feelings for Jake, but yet entertaining something with someone else whilst have romantic interludes with Jake. It just didn’t make her very likeable at all. I’m not a fan of toxicity in a relationship. Her reasoning’s weren’t very grounded either, her thought process felt quite shallow in that there wasn’t really much reasoning to her reasons!
It was also too drawn out for me and knowing there’s another book I feel like I might just skim read the next one.
The story continues for Jake and Abby… and I kinda wish it didn’t. I feel like it’s Groundhog Day except this time she was the one than ran off and broke both their hearts. Then Dan, the other guy, on top of all the flirting she’s already gone with his friends but then questions him about trust.. Um pot.. meet kettle!
Obviously without Jake getting her on tour on false pretences you wouldn’t have a story but whereas I felt like he grew as a character, Abby was even more sucky than the previous book!
Again, only reason I read this was because it’s free on kindle unlimited. Same issues as the first book: continuity is all over the place. Her new love interest also has the last name West? Has it been a few months since Brooklyn or a few years because the story bounces between the two options. Her friends and parents are sooooo involved in all of her shit, and everyone is always drunk and puking on someone. Read it if you’re bored but don’t expect it to blow your mind.
Abby and Jake have one constant battle after another. No matter how hard I pull for them they just can't seem to make it work. Her friends finally seem to be growing up though. At this point I'm behind Jake. He's doing everything he can to win her back. Her hangup on what happened eight years ago is getting very old. I'm not sure she loves him as much as he deserves since she's allowed Dan in the picture. Off now to read the concluding novel and hope Abby grows up in the next book. Still a must read book and series.
Jake is playing a risky game, will it pay off or will it destroy everything they have worked for! Wow what a rollercoaster of emotions. Jake definitely should have told her the reason 2 years ago. It could have changed everything.
Birth control and hangover sickness never mix 😬 this could make or break EVERYTHING!
New love is both thrilling and exciting but you cant beat The One. No matter how long it takes, fate will bring you back together.
Such a great storyline, I honestly fell completely into the book and couldn’t put it down until the very last word - oh so good! The will the won’t they, the new guy, the friends and their drama, the ex girlfriend- there so much to the story, but it’s written with such detail and emotion that I was mesmerised and just had to see how it ended. Cliff hanger ending - boo! Can’t wait to get into the next book in this series
I don't know why I tried book 2 when book 1 left me rolling my eyes...also, Lizzie Morton is an Brit, totally cool. But if you're an international writer and you're characters are not your nationalitity you really should do your research on how your characters speak. It's lazy writing. The British colloquialisms that were being spoken by American's was hilarious in the fact that it was so wrong. Just lazy writing.
In case anyone didn’t know what an abusive toxic relationship can look like this is a great example. She’s playing games, he’s manipulative. For any girls thinking he’s romantic or fighting for her he’s controlling, explosively angry, intentionally lies, things are only allowed to happen on his terms in the exact way he wants, he’s degrading to her whenever she doesn’t behave the way he believes she should. If a significant other acts like this man RUN
I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one unfortunately.
I feel like this one had very similar situations to the first book and I didnt like the introduction of the love triangle, it just didn't seem to fit in this story 😬
I did love the tour around Europe , the side characters and it was good to get Jake's pov in this one
I'm still invested enough to read the 3rd book and hopefully these characters can get their HEA!
This is the continued story of Jake and Abby. It is part two of a trilogy. It is a heartfelt second chance story featuring a rock star and a photographer. This is a heartfelt and slow burn story. WE fast forward two years in this second part and she is put working on his bands tour. He wants her but she wants distance. I look forward to reading the final piece of their story.
The book is a good, and enjoyable second chance rock star romance read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a lot better. This was more character development, more intriguing plot and higher stakes which made it all so much more enjoyable. This book got me onboard the Abby and Jake train and I very much interested to see how this all concludes. I am actually excited to read it.
I downloaded the last book Always on Amazon and when I started reading it, it was actually the book Always Us. How do i get to read the last book Always? The trilogy is great but would be nice to finish the last book?
Seriously I’ve read 2 books now with Cliffies. This one didn’t give any leeway as to what might happen next. It’s so crazy I keep reading but I feel to invested to stop. Do yourself a favour and don’t read this series. It will only piss you off.
It was just as good as the first book of the series, the cliffhanger hit just as hard as the first book as well. I’m already halfway through the final/third book of the series, jus series stresses me out but it’s like an addiction. 4/5✨
Cardboard characters continued. No personality development for Abby, just continued spiraling into more immaturity (acting 14 in book 1 and acting 12 in this one) and Jake deserved better. That’s all.
Just wanted the story to have a complete ending with everything tied up. The author kept dragging the storyline and was hard to get through. Ended on another cliffhanger and was just over it.
