The complete collection of tales from Hans Christian Andersen. Included tales are The Snow Queen, The Princess and the Pea, The Emperor's New Suit, and The Little Mermaid.
Hans Christian Andersen (often referred to in Scandinavia as H.C. Andersen) was a Danish author and poet. Although a prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, Andersen is best remembered for his fairy tales. Andersen's popularity is not limited to children; his stories — called eventyr, or "fairy-tales" — express themes that transcend age and nationality.
Andersen's fairy tales, which have been translated into more than 125 languages, have become culturally embedded in the West's collective consciousness, readily accessible to children, but presenting lessons of virtue and resilience in the face of adversity for mature readers as well. Some of his most famous fairy tales include "The Little Mermaid", "The Ugly Duckling", "The Nightingale", "The Emperor's New Clothes" and many more. His stories have inspired plays, ballets, and both live-action and animated films.
My rating system is for me and others- if you understand my rating system.
1 star- book was so bad I couldn’t even get into it (because why would anyone actually finish a one star or 2 star book? Life is too short)
2 stars- Book was good enough I made it to the halfway point but then lost interest
3 stars- I finished the book, but only because I wanted to find out what happened and was not necessarily enjoying the ride.
4 stars- I finished and enjoyed the book.
5 stars- I finished the book and really felt something. The book impacted my life in some real way, or changed my perspective and/or motivated me to do or change something in my life.
Man these stories are something special. If there’s one thing I’ve thought about the most it is: I don’t understand the child’s mind. I do not understand in my left brain logic how in earth these stories are for children, or even appropriate for children. And they even say these are the Santa Clause of stories compared to Grimm. What?!
Every one impacted me in some way, even if it was just “dang what just happened and why,” it got me thinking. Some of the stories I did NOT like, but they still impacted me and made me feel something. Nothing here is blah.
I’ve been reading a text called Hans Andersan’s Fairy Tales Retold by Naomi Lewis. This text is about a princess testing out is she was a real princess.I would recommend this book to anyone who likes princess stories because there is going to be a princess in this book.I feel this way because the princess put a pea on a bed and tested out if she was a real princess and the pea was put in the museum.
One reason I would recommend this book to anyone who likes princesses is because there will be a princess that tests out if she was a real princess with a pea on a mattress and she piles up twenty more.
The other reason why I would recommend the book is because the pea that was put on the mattress was now put in the museum.
I would recommend my free text to a friend because it is unusual how a princess puts a pea on a mattress and piles up twenty more mattresses on top. This makes a reader interested in reading fairy tales.
I loved this fairy tale collection. I’d read newer versions of many of them, and it was interesting seeing the source material.
My favorites were the Little Mermaid and the Wild Swans, but I liked most of the short stories.
The language was by far the best thing about this. It’s so lyrical, and the descriptions of nature are gorgeous. Anderson pairs tragedy and romance very well. The fantastical elements were interesting to see as well.
