The Fool Me Duet #1

Fool Me Twice

Rate this book
I have one regret in life: fooling Michael Becket, the most promising quarterback in the NFL.

He was supposed to be a simple job, a chance to put the past behind me. It turned into a media scandal and now he's famous for all the wrong reasons.

To the world he's impossible to love but to me he's impossible to hate.

I have a chance to redeem myself and show everyone who he really is. But how can I do that when I don't even know myself?

Becket revealed a lot of his secrets the day we met on the plane, but I now know, with absolute certainty, he still has one left to tell.

DNF 10% and I struggled to get that far.

This will contain spoilers so read at your own risk.

From the start I wasn’t really feeling this story, but not enough so that I didn’t want to continue.

That all changed pretty drastically when it comes to chapter 1 and Britney is now an adult working for a gossip magazine.

The boss calls Britney and another member of the staff into the office, informing them that they are to look into a rumor that an NFL player named Becket is having trouble with his girlfriend.

This is where it becomes a disaster.

Britney proves over and over just how spineless she is, her co-worker comes up with a plan and she goes along with it, only pushing back minimally on this absolutely vile plan.

From the start, Leigh, the co-worker reveals that she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get the scoop on this NFL player, but she’s not really “looking” for a scoop, she's making plans to “create one”.

She shows Britney the drugs she plans to slip him in order to get this scoop, and shares with her that apparently that’s the lengths everyone at their employer is willing to do, they don’t get any scoops, they fabricate them.

They make it so Britney is next to Becket on a plane that’s traveling from New York to Florida, what I think is meant to be a witty back and forth is just awkward and forced, he calls her a psycho and his only reason is her name.

Then the plane hits turbulence, and while Britney is freaking out this famous NFL player just starts sharing ALL his deepest secrets. In what world does that make sense? Literally he just starts spilling his deepest darkest secrets, ones that could get him kicked out of the NFL to a complete stranger.

How does Britney respond, by yelling she’s a virgin, of course, and the next second their lips are locked on one another.

She second guesses the plan but inevitably doesn’t put up a fight to prevent the events from taking place.

She and Becket ride together in a taxi, and Becket gives an address to the driver. Magically when they arrive at the address Leigh and her “source” are already there. This would have been an opportunity for Britney to put an end to the nefarious plan, but she needed money so…..she took the hand off of drugs she was to slip in his drink

Now, this plan is already wretched, but honestly the way it plays out is a disaster. At the bar, Britney slips the drugs into the very first drink that’s ordered.

Obviously these drugs are going to mess him up, and they take effect as he and Britney are making out in the bathroom of the bar. He lands on top of her, and somehow without raising suspicion she and Leigh maneuver this drugged football player out of the bar and into a cab, seriously? As if the plot isn’t already outrageous.

Oh, and then the part that made it very clear to me that this was going to cross a line that made the woman who’s meant to be the heroine of the story a villain.

After this, they take him from Florida to Georgia, meeting up at a motel, and forcing him into the proximity of a woman who very closely resembles his recent ex. Britney and Leigh record every explicit detail, and share all of the events that they created to the gossip magazine they work for.

That’s when I stopped, I don’t see how this could be forgiven, they should have been facing charges.

Britney even has the audacity to say that “I’ll admit they were a little bit funny.” None of that was funny, and that fact that she didn’t even try to put a stop to the events makes her a spineless fool.

Britney works for a gossip magazine and her new assignment is NFL player Beckett. It’s become well known that Beckett’s relationship with his current girlfriend is on rocky ground and Britney is tasked to follow him and get whatever scoop. If there is no story she is to create one. Britney doesn’t like working for the magazine but she has no choice as she needs the money to pay off the debts that her mother has racked up. During a turbulent flight from New York Britney and Beckett find they are seat buddies. During the flight Beckett discloses some of his deepest and unknown secrets to Britney. But more happens after the flight and once his secrets become public Beckett quickly becomes headline news for all the wrong reasons. 18 months later Britney and Beckett are reunited when a newspaper want to feature an article about Beckett and he specifically requests that Britney is the writer because he wants revenge. As Beckett starts to play his game and mess with Britney, he doesn’t realise that Britney will happily play him at his own game. However, neither of them are aware that there is a third player in this game but who are they?

There is a prequel called Fool Me Once which I haven’t read but this didn’t affect my enjoyment of this book because at the start the reader is given a recap as to what happened in Fool Me Once and the first interaction between Beckett and Britney. I’ve been wanting to read a book by this author for some time so I jumped at the chance to read and review this book. What can I say about this book apart from I absolutely loved it and I think I’ve found a new favourite author. I loved the storyline. It was captivating, engaging and fast paced. So much so that I read it within 24 hours and was sad when I finished the book resulting in a book hangover. The chemistry between Britney and Beckett was evident from their first encounter and resurfaced when they met 18 months later. Beckett at first glance is a handsome flawed hero who has had bad experiences in his past but ultimately he’s trying to redeem himself and has a good heart. In contrast Britney’s upbringing was also less than ideal but not as perfect as Beckett thinks. Their scenes together honestly stole my heart. I did love how Britney stood her ground despite Beckett trying to get a reaction from her.

This isn’t just a story about revenge and romance, as both Britney and Beckett have pasts that they are running from and secrets that only they know. Their story is a clear example of how looks can be deceiving. In Beckett’s case he is keeping a big secret about his identity and past that only a few people know. Britney too has secrets no one knows. But as she becomes closer to Beckett he is the first person that she confides in. Both characters are trying to achieve something better, not letting the past define them but also helping each other to heal. But as they slowly learn the past never remains buried. Although I didn’t agree with what Britney did to Beckett in some ways she kind of didn’t have a choice. What Beckett didn’t realise was it was her colleague who was the driving force behind what happened to him and it was clear that she really didn’t want to be involved.

If you like tropes such as enemies to lovers, sports romance, dark romance, forced proximity and chemistry between the lead characters which is off the scale you need to read this book because you won’t be disappointed.

Oh this book had everything!!
Suspense, romance, sports, enemies to lovers, second chances, slow burn steam and so many twists and turns and a thriller-esque edge that left me really struggling to put it down
.
Becket and Brit both have secrets and they both have more skeletons in the closet than I could have ever imagined. The initial encounter between these two was both electric and an EPIC disaster with repercussions for both of them and 18 months later NFL bad boy Becket is out for revenge
.
This was a clever, fast paced storyline. The darker elements to the story had me on the edge of my seat - I was well and truly gripped
.
I loved the relationship between these two, it was far from perfect, it was raw, it was real and it took a whole load of hard work from both sides to make it work. But when they both finally uncovered the real them, the people behind the masks they both, for very heartbreaking reasons, wore, it was a joy to see them both together helping each other heal from both past and current traumas
.
If your looking for a dark, suspense filled, sports romance then this could very well be the book for you.

This book was okay. It seemed like there were two different stories going on. One was crime and the other romance and the book didn’t interlink the two together enough so at the end of the book it felt odd.

‘It’s a shame that those secrets he divulged, the ones that made me feel differently about him, are what I have to use against him.’

Fool Me Twice by Lizzie Morton is stand-alone new adult dark sports romance that is told from duel POVs.

Having read two books previously by Lizzie Moreton I was excited to jump into this one as it’s a little different from her previous work.

I found the first 60% of this story enjoyable and then after that is when I believe the story really came to life. It’s fast paced storyline that’s full of twist and turns and dark from the very beginning.

The only reasons that this books didn’t get more stars from me is because I felt that some of the chemistry was a bit forced and I struggled to connect with the characters.

Please note: This book does end on a cliffhanger.

Thank you to Lizzie Morton for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I flew through this book. Lizzie Morton’s writing is just addictive, and I do love an enemies to lovers trope. I feel you have to be able to suspend belief when reading adult romance suspense books like this, and if you do it’ll take you on quite the ride. I loved how the characters interacted with each other, and I even enjoyed the side characters a lot. I genuinely couldn’t decide who’s side I was on at times, especially when the back story for the characters were revealed, and I LOVED the drama! I cannot wait to read Fool Me Thrice.

Can I say wow, just Wow!

This book was a total roller coaster and I was invested from the very beginning.
It is well written, fast paced, full of suspense, and I absolutely loved the characters!

At the beginning of the book Britney is working for a gossip magazine and really hates her job. But she's been lumbered with her mothers drug debts and out of desperation she agrees to do some really shady things to get a scoop.

Michael is an a$$hole and a famous NFL player, and was first introduced in Always you as Abby's boyfriend, and when he first meets Britney, he's on the plane after just breaking up with her.
Britney helps her colleague set him up and it causes chaos in his career.

Skip forward 18 months and Britney has a new job at a different magazine after not being able to take the guilt of what she did, and Michael has managed to settle his career but is hell bent on revenge, so he agrees to do an interview for the magazine Britney works for and ensures she has no choice but to do it herself.
She agrees, wanting to make amends, but he really doesn't make it easy for her and acts like a complete a$$hole.

Both of them have gone through alot in their lives, and between their shared past and the secrets they're both hiding, the path to happiness is definitely a rocky one.

The twists and turns in this book had me hooked and I just couldn't put it down.
I needed to know what Michael's story was and there was so much more to him than he showed to the world.

This book is definitely different to Lizzie's other series, but she absolutely smashed it and I cannot wait for the next one!

Just finished this book and I loooooved it. It was quite different to my usual book and I was super intrigued the whole way through by the secrets that both Brit & Becket were keeping!

It was such a clever story line, it really engaged you and was really well paced. You wanted to find out what was going on but it never felt like it was being dragged out and it wasn’t frustrating like some books can be!

I loved the characters. Becket was an NFL quarterback who was known as the asshole of the football world but it was so far from the truth. He was so misunderstood and kept a mask on at all times. He’s been hurt repeatedly in his life and he deserved so much more than he was given!

Britney was also a really sweet, misunderstood character. The start to her life with a drug addict mother was traumatic for her and she’d done so well to get out of that life and make something for herself. She was naive at the beginning of the book and got led astray but she more than redeemed herself throughout the story.

I LOVED their relationship, it was far from perfect and took a lot of work from both sides but was so worth it, they were so good together and helped the other to heal.

This story was so well written, I just devoured it. A super interesting read that I highly recommend! It comes out on the 11th 🖤

DNF at 15%.

The beginning of the book is supposed to get you hooked but I just wanted to throw this book.

Our characters meet because of a job. Okay. She wants to reveal a scandal and he just got out of a breakup. Now they HAVE to sit next to each other on the plane.

This whole plane thing doesn’t sit well with me. I recently read a Vancouver Wolves book that has almost the same thing happening and it felt like a shitty repeat in this book. He goes from being turned on to being mean to kissing her and telling her his darkest secrets. Like I get the whole near death part but really bro. You didn’t want that getting out for a reason.

When it comes to getting the scandal, she should’ve taken that and left. But nope. WE HAVE TO DRUG OUR GUY!? That was immediately a big hell no from me. Why would you even condone that? And not feel bad? You ruined the man’s reputation and didn’t care.

Then the time jumps were annoying. 6 weeks later….18 months later. I couldn’t take it anymore and decided to give up. This book was making me so angry. It felt like a Wattpad novel instead of a kindle book.

description

Fool Me Twice is Book one of the Fool Me series. I would recommend readers read the prequel first, Fool Me Once, to get better details on where everything started. Readers will better understand how things escalated from bad to worst between Britney and Becket.

Like the prequel, Fool Me Twice is told from Britney and Becket's POVs. The writing is witty, clever, and sometimes raw. The nice thing about the book is that readers will feel everything - angst, despair, urgency, and the grit that both main characters exude. The pace is good, wherein there is a balance between fast for danger and slow for "ah-ha" moments.

I love love love Britney. She is a character that has gone through a long road to find herself worth and rose to many occasions in the book. Her growth (from the prequel to now) and "wrong decisions" make her believable and relatable. Granted that she was initially "placed" in a compromising situation, she held on as much dignity for herself as she could and even "reinvented" herself, found a good friend, and a job that will help her "move on." She is stronger than people think she is and surprises readers later in the book.

Becket's a jerk through and through, but readers will feel the "storm" conflicting within him. There were too many "over-the-top" moments that made my jaw drop. Given what happened to his past, I can see where all of Becket's anger and frustration come from, but he needs to get into "anger management" or talk to someone about his "out-of-control" moments. He comes in as a vengeful character but will later show readers that all that is for the show is an underlying issue that he will need to address.

Both Brit and Becket have "flaws" and "secrets" that lead to more significant issues. I appreciate the other supporting characters provide the support and forgiveness needed to the main characters since Britney and Becket are too stubborn to do it themselves.

The suspense and drama are epic! It will answer the numerous questions from what Becket is running from, the mysterious players behind the scenes, etc. Note that the story may sound simple at first, but there is a lot more going on that meets the eye. The cover photo should be a dead giveaway of how scary things are going. The urgency and danger come leaping out of the pages to have readers mesmerized to finish the book. Becket needed to "sort out" himself immediately to save the people he cares about, not only Britney.

In summary, Fool Me Twice is a book that will appeal to romance-suspense, sports romance, enemies-to-lovers, a bit of bully romance going on, and second chance tropes. This theme is different from the author's past works that might be a treat for readers. Compared to the author's past books, there is also a maturing in writing, plot formulation, and approach that is thought-provoking and unseen in past works, so the main characters are growing and the author with them. All the characters have a lot more depth in history and development in this book, and there were many "ground-breaking" moments. The book got me so worked up that I have never felt so strongly about two main characters like I have for Britney and Beckett. The book made me feel frustrated with the characters because they are authentic and "real."
The book will have readers in a trance as they dive into uncovering secrets and revelations of Britney and Becket. Expect the unexpected from two flawed characters because they have more "skeletons in the closet" than I expected based on the prequel. A real exciting and page-turner read!

Lizzie has a way with words and her dedication to the craft is clearly visible in this book. It's easy to put words on paper (or screens), anyone can do it. But to write a story is an art form, one that I think she is well on her way to mastering.

This book was out of her comfort zone, but she knew she had an amazing story that deserved to be told. So she did the damn thing, and she did it well. As a Beta reader, I got to see first hand how dedicated she was to this book and every single component of it. The amount of love, time and patience she put into each character and their stories blew me away.
This book picks up where fool me once left off. And let me tell you, be prepared to have your socks rocked.
The aftermath of the events that happened in Fool Me Once leaves Becket with his name dragged through the mud and his reputation seriously lacking. After months of pushing from his coach and his PR team, he finally agrees to do an article about the "Real Michael Becket", but he has his conditions. And one of those conditions is her- Britney. The girl who managed to break down his walls as quickly as she ruined his name. She's the one who ruined his reputation, so it's only right that she's the one chosen to repair it... But at what cost? And to whom? Everyone has their secrets, but some should stay as just that. When truths are revealed, will everything fall apart? Or will they mend what's broken?

Becket isn't at all what I expected going into this book, and quite frankly neither is Britney.

This book blend a mixture of genres from sports romance, to suspense, to thriller, and it works so well. The humor is on point and placed perfectly throughout the book to give you the much needed comedic relief in a book like this. The plot and storyline are killer and executed beautifully. The pace was just right - not too fast or too slow. The burn, however, is so slow and so good, like a perfectly toasted marshmallow - and it's just as delicious. Watching the story unfold is a total mind f$%&. Just when you think you've got it all figured out... BAM! A curveball right to the face - and it hurts so good! I couldn't put it down. The book leaves you on a cliffhanger of epic proportions, leaving me way too excited to book 3.

I 100% would recommend this book to anyone I know.

𝐌𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬:

Stepping outside of my comfort zone, this is not a genre I normally read - however having been described as "romantic suspense" my interest was piqued, and this did indeed have a dark undertone to it. Enemies to lovers mixed with second chances mixed with thriller aspects: we follow a dual perspective plot, switching between Brittany and Beckett.

Remaining completely honest, I wasn’t sure about this for the first third (ish), for a couple of reasons. It felt like not much was happening, and I really didn't like Brittany's character at this point. There were some serious moral issues occurring, which I couldn't ignore, and which definitely had me questioning the attraction between Brit and Beckett. I found Brittany spineless and unlikeable, with a completely unattractive personality, who may have redeemed herself later in the book, but at this point was grating on me. I get that their relationship was "raw" and "real" but the things she did to Beckett (no spoilers) essentially ruined the authenticity of that resulting relationship for me.

I think it's important to note that I'm not a huge romance reader, and I'm still exploring different romance plots - maybe the enemies to lover's trope isn't for me (I'm definitely a heartbreak romance gal) and that's okay!

HOWEVER. Having said that, I flew through the second half, where guards were let down, and we got to see the real characters behind the metaphorical masks. As the plot darkened, it became more and more engaging, and I found myself completely drawn in to both the character’s dark pasts. The chemistry was certainly undeniable and what a KILLER cliff-hanger we were left on.. I'm now super excited to pick up the third instalment next month!

Fool Me Twice – Lizzie Morton

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to the author and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Before I start my review, I would like to say that I have read this book twice as I was one of the beta readers for this book. I would like to thank Lizzie for giving me that opportunity as it is amazing how far this book has come.

For anyone that has read the prequel to this book Fool Me Once, this book continues the story of Britney and Becket, but can definitely be read without having read the novella.
Britney works at a gossip magazine; Becket is an NFL player. As far as Becket is aware the initial meeting is entirely by chance, however the meeting is all part of a grand scheme to bring a big scandal to the NFL. Fast forward a few years and there is a chance for Britney to redeem herself for the scandal.

During this book, Britney is tasked with writing an article about the real Michael Becket, not the Becket that is usually portrayed. This involves Britney tailing him for a few weeks, allowing them to work through their past issues. Are they going to be able to put the past behind them?
From reading Lizzie’s other books, she is definitely a romance writer, however in this book, she has challenged herself and added a lot of suspense. Both characters are hiding secrets that they would like to remain hidden.

Overall, this is a well-written fast-paced novel that had me hooked from the beginning. There is great character development, and its hard not to like the majority of the characters. I think that there is just the right balance between romance and suspense to appeal to fans of both genres.

Rating 5/5

I was very pleased to read that there will be a sequel to this book, I just can’t get enough of Britney and Becket.

Sports Romance✅
Enemies-friends-lovers✅
Suspense✅
Mystery✅

Plot 4.5 ✨
Spice 3 🌶️

Britney Shaw is just trying to keep her mother's debts paid up, so they don't come for her. She had no choice than to take the job, even if she didn't like it. It was simple all she had to do was drug NFL golden boy Michael Becket and record him doing dumb stuff. She had a change of heart halfway through the night, but she couldn't stop it others was in control not her.

Michael worked himself to the bone to overcome the media shit storm that she created. She doesn't know how close she came to destroying not only his career but their lives as well. Now he wants one thing revenge. So, he agrees to do an article about the real Michael but on one condition Britney has to do it and she has to come to him.

Both Michael and Britney believe they each are playing a game but what neither of them know is that they are both playing someone else's game. When a figure from Michael's past starts to haunt them, both can they survive his game intact? In order to move forward Michael and Britney both have to spill all of their dark secrets, but it just might be too late.

I went into reading this book believing that it was going to be your standard enemies to lovers' book, but it was so much more. While I was immersed in Michael and Britney falling in love, I didn't see the plot twist coming. Up until like 60% of the way through it is just a romance story but then the plot twist comes, and you find yourself in suspense/mystery novel. That might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I very much enjoyed it.

I was left with some unanswered questions, that I hope will be answered in her upcoming book. That is the only reason I gave it a 4.5✨ and not 5✨.

That prologue though, I was certainly glad to reach chapter one six years later. After picking my jaw up off the floor. From the moment it begins I loved how the author directs the conversation between each of the characters. It’s funny, awkward and completely entertaining no matter who’s chatting to who. The author literally is brilliant at placing ‘OMG’ moments and then further advancing into another six weeks later. This is an epic way of getting the readers attention and mine was definitely caught. Especially as I desired to know how Becket was going to be perceived and how Britney was going to handle the upcoming guilt. The different perspectives break the overall plot up neatly and I loved this.

The layout was awesome with the snippets of text messages. I really loved Jess and her boss like motivation. It was interesting reading the NFL storyline and I quite liked the tit for tat vibes. It’s brilliant also when you read a book and take note of the titles words, very smart. The mystery regarding a certain figure kept me intrigued throughout and I constantly wanted to work out the connection before it being revealed. Usually I can find some characters annoying but I really loved Brit and Becket. As much as I wanted to really not like Becket I couldn’t help warming to him.

This was more emotional than I thought it would be, the snippets back to the past really bought the two together. There were events and situations that were overcome when I found myself doubting would they or wouldn’t they. It’s an extremely addictive fast paced read and I can’t wait to read the second one now.

I received an advanced read copy in exchange for my honesty review.
Morton has done something very interesting with this book and this series in general that I have need seen much of. This book is the continuation of “Fool Me Once” which is the Novella introducing us to Beckett and his world of some pretty fucked up secrets. “Fool Me Twice” introduces us to Britney a young, desperate woman who does some shady things while trying to stay ahead of her past and a debt that is not hers. I was not enamored with Brit in the beginning ( which is abnormal for me I tend to gravitate to the heroine ) but she did grow on me as I learned her reasoning and her willingness to admit to her own mistakes. Beckett is an asshole, but he’s our asshole and he past actually, does actually explain why he is that way he is. I did not know going into this book that it would be somewhat of a cliffhanger (bewared) and that’s what is interesting about the setup of this series. The story is not over, the baddie is still on the loose and the next book will follow a different set of characters. This is a very effective way to hold interest, and there was already so many interesting secrets in this book! This is a Very Slow burn for all the smut lovers, but its worth it when we finally get there. This is not my go to sub-genre and Morton is a new to me author so it took me a bit to get into this story, but I once I did I had to know how it ended! With a cliffhanger! This is a fast paced story with lots of angst! This is a 3 star for me I liked it but probably won't go back and read it again.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I absolutely adored the 'Always' series of books so was excited to find out Beckets story after Abby.

Becket is a talented NFL player who has a dark and damaged past that he is still running from. Due to this he doesn't allow anyone to get to close hes as closed off as they come feeling like he has no other choice.
Britney is such a sweetheart who just like Becket has a past which is equally damaged and traumatic thanks to her drug addict mother. Thanks to her mothers poor choices and going AWOL leaving Britney with her debts leaves her making her own mistakes doing what she can to get up the ladder in work hoping the more money she earns the quicker her mothers debts will be paid and she will finally be fully free.

The first encounter between Becket and Britney was premeditated on her part little did he know that. Even though she had a plan to destroy him she couldn't deny the chemistry leaving her second guessing but knowing she had no choice she carried out her plan. Eighteen months later Becket is out for revenge it starts off as a game but as time goes on its clear they can't deny there is something more between them that they can't fight off any longer. They are both still tied to their past with more skeletons in their closets they won't admit to putting each other in danger.

I'd say this was more of a thriller than romance. It was an enjoyable read but do think it was hyped up more than necessary.

Lizzie Morton, I am obsessed with your writing. This was such an amazing read. I fell in love with Britney and Becket; Britney and her commitment to righting a wrong, and Becket, for learning vulnerability- that trust, in the right hands, can help carry the weight too. Absolutely BRILLIANT. You have sucked me into this world and I am not ready to leave it.

Josie/Freya, you better be our champion and finally put to rest old sleeping dogs, kick some ass girl! You got this.

Becket and Britney, I want the wedding, I want the babies, and I want more from you.

Lizzie, you have gained a #1 FAN!!

Dark sports romance

If you’re looking for a sports romance story with an element of dark suspense, then this book will be right up your alley.

At first I thought this was your usual revenge/second chance romance plot but as you read throught the chapters, you start to sense a darker theme in the background.

Britney and Becket’s initial encounter was a disaster of epic proportions and I was honestly wondering how they would both recover from it. The path to redemption was rocky at start but slowly these two found their way back to each other.

What I liked about this book was the unique plot. I had no idea it was possible for a sports romance to get dark but Lizzie Morton has managed to do that. While reading this book, I was mostly kept in suspense. I was dying from anticipation - both from the sexual tension and the sightings of this mysterious hooded person.

I also love how beautifully imperfect the two main characters are and I was happy with how they redeemed themselves in the end.

Go read this book and be prepared to immerse yourself in this thriller drama romance. Oh and did I mention this book will have a sequel?

So I haven't read a huge amount of dark romance, because two of my first endeavours really put me off (a kidnapping from the start of the book by the man she's meant to fall for, and an age gap where the 18 year old seemed like a 14 year old). But I've read a few since and enjoyed them, and as I was reading this one, whilst there were a couple of dark themes, it didn't scream 'dark romance' to me as much as some others. This was probably a 'beginners dark romance', which I loved. Towards the end however, it definitely turned more dark. And I can see the third book being even darker but I cannot wait to start.

I was super annoyed when I got to the end though and realised there was a Fool Me Once before this book! But then I realised it was a prequel novella and was less annoyed 😂 I definitely need to read it though!

I feel like I flew through this book because I really enjoyed it, even though sports romance isn't usually my thing. It had enemies to lovers and forced proximity though which I love. And there was spice. And I loved the Detective element!

I would definitely recommend this book, I loved it.

You definitely need to read the prequel, Fool Me Once, in order to understand this one better. It's got the backstory for what happened initially and then for what plays out in the main story.

This one is written in dual POV. Britney and Beckett did not start out on the best of terms. This book is an interesting mix of romantic suspense, enemies to lovers and sports romance all thrown into one crazy ride.

Beckett is a jerk most of the story. He was really hard to like at times. Britney is someone who spent some time soul searching to become a better person.

This story initially seems like it's a straightforward sports romance with a revenge story, but it's so much more than that at the story unfolds.

Beckett has a darker past that he is running from and Britney is the girl that helps him find himself throughout the story.

It's really hard to give an more review as I don't want to give any of the story away, but if you like mystery with your romance this is the story you need to read this month.

Whoa, this is my first book by the author that I have read and I was totally not prepared for what was in store with me! This is not just a second chance romance, it was so much more! There are so many twists and turns and the characters are so complex, that you cannot help but be swept up and hold on for dear life while reading.

All in all this book was more than what I was expecting, but still has those second chance aspects that I absolutely adore. The characters were awesome and had just the right amount of layers and chemistry that I was totally rooting for them throughout the story. I am definitely going to be checking out what is next from the author and give this book 4 outta 5 stars!

PS: Thank you to Lizzie Morton and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly.

Becket is a NFL QB who the world thinks is not a nice guy, and he's not really done anything to change their minds. He's gone through a lot, and not many people are willing to look past the surface to see there's more to him than they thought. Britney has also gone through a lot in her life, and it's been an uphill battle to make something of herself, however, her life takes a turn again & it leads her into making some shady mistakes which isn't something she wanted to do. These two are forced to come face to face again which isn't something either of them wanted, but there's more to the story. It's that which had the twists coming in hot, and while these two had the sparks flying, there's nothing quick about it as it was just about too slow but that's just me. Fool Me Twice was definitely a page turner filled with layers that kept me on the edge of my seat! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This was our #blackheartedgirlsuk November Read & I loved loved loved this!

Britney is set the task of creating a story about Becket, a famous NFL player. The result is a disaster & threatens to end Becket's career. Follow the story to see what happens next & how devastating secrets bring people together.

This was a fabulous read, I raced through it & it kept me gripped. Perfect amounts of humour, raw emotion, sass & smut.

Straight off to download Fool Me Thrice!

Thanks @authorlizziemorton for a great read.

A very well written, self-professed retelling of The Beauty and the Beast. Although it bogged down for a while about a third of the way in, it quickly picked the pace back up again. The attraction between Britney and Michael seems to be one of mutual self-destruction with a savior complex. Perhaps the least appealing part of the story was the cliffhanger ending. Overall, if you like thrillers, suspense, and are willing to put up with a-holes, then you will probably enjoy this story.

Entertaining. Great world building. Haunting. Scary. Steamy. Tear-jerker. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.

This was my first trip into the NFL romance world and i was hooked. I loved the instant chemistry between Michael and Britney even if their meet is not what is seems.
With them both hiding from their pasts and keeping secrets will they ever learn to trust each other to overcome their obstacles. Just when you think Michael is opening up the mask slams back down hiding the real him from the world and being a total d.ck as times even if Britneys orinigal deception and double cross is the cause of it all.
This is a fast paced book that had me on the edge of my seat.
Not everything is as it seems...let the cat and mouse games begin

🖤Likeable Characters
🖤Enemies to Lovers
🖤Cliff Hanger Ending

I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I did not care for Britney at first. She took part in a dirty underhanded plot for a job. She realized that what she did was wrong but it was to late, the damage was done. Michael Becket was nearly ruined by the scandal but slowly worked his way out of it. He decides to do an interview and he wants Britney to do it. He comes across as a real jerk with a huge chip on his shoulder. There is plenty of back and forth with these two as a mystery starts open around them. Is this hooded menace coming for her or him?

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
