DCI Sean Bracken is about to buy a house, his ex-wife is talking about getting married and his father drops a bombshell. He has very little time to get involved with solving a murder, but that's what is thrown into his lap.
A young woman found beaten and burned in an old building will be taking up Bracken's every waking minute. He has seen victims like this before, battered almost beyond recognition, a crime that is more than personal.
With the crime taking priority, it leaves time for little else and takes Bracken into a world he knew existed but hadn't navigated before.
Along with his team, Bracken will need to tread carefully. There's a killer watching his every move, somebody very clever, and very deadly...
John Carson is the author of the DI Frank Miller detective series. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and lived there most of his life. In 2006, he emigrated to New York State with his American wife and two daughters. They now live in a small town in the Hudson Valley where his wife was brought up, with a German Shepherd, a Beagle mix and four cats.
Sean Bracken is a must read for John Carson fans and he has given a thrilling encounter to kick off 2022. A stunning tale which meandered around a set of events and had an exciting end. The banter between the characters is fantastic and funny, and it adds so much to the delight of the story. I really enjoyed reading this book and will definitely get the next one.
I kept expecting the big murder scene where they look for one person.. And they don't know who it is.. The big surprise at The end. However this story was interesting in that it kept you engaged and you got to know the characters more than normal. There was still the murder and police business. But this book was more about establishing the relationships and histories behind the main characters. I really enjoyed it. And I even got the surprise murderer at the end. Thank you.
I'm A fan of the Sean Bracket mysteries but this one was a bit much for me. My problem was that it had been a while since I'd read the previous Sean Bracket mystery and I had to try to remember the characters that appeared in the previous book. Then the new mystery being presented in this book had a lot of characters introduced very quickly and it was hard to remember who wsdvwho.
What I'll remember most about this book is the characters' banter. Delightful! Nothing memorable as far as the case goes, but still a very fast, decent read.
Changed my mind, and here lies the problem: I read it too fast. The case is, actually, quite a puzzle and really well done. When things get complicated, I need to slow down and let my mind play with it! The book was shorter than most and I took no breaks. In the end, I can say it was a very good read!
Another great read by John Carson! His characters are funny, but serious. He gets to the point, and doesn't write filler material. It's going to be interesting to see where DCI Sean Bracken is going to go with his personal life now after this case. Who shall he choose? John Carson's series are all amazing. Read them!
Sean is messed up in his personal life, between the old, ex-wife Catherine, and current girlfriend, Chaz. His job is also a mess as he is racing between cases and his family problems, ex-wife and his father. Language seemed particularly rough in this book. Ending is also a cliffhanger! I skimmed to reach end but did not get involved as I usually do.
Filled with the usual witty banter this storyline has several subplots and DCI Bracken conflicted in his personal life. All the threads come together in an exciting ending. Carson writes murder but it is the characters and their interaction that makes his books an enjoyable read.
I just love this series. Even though the murder mysteries are intricate, the repartee amongst the characters cracks me up! I even went back and reread books 3 and 4, just to enjoy the lead up to this new book!
Another good twisted murder mystery. Sean ‘s like takes sips and turns as the two women who love him—— he must make a plan for the future. And yes the murderer is caught.
I thought that I had read all of John Carson’s books. But this one was sitting on my Kindle! I highly recommend this book. The characters are great. The mystery was gripping, and it had humor! I love DCI Bracken!
A new case has brought fear and resentment to the table. It was fast paced and full of surprises. I was a little disappointed at one point, decisions that were wrong and deceiving. But overall it was a good book.
Why does every murders have to include a main character. The ex-wife, the dad, etc. And then so many convoluted twist and turns with way too many bad guys.
