Bestselling author of horror, thrillers, sci-fi and m/m romance, including The Whistler, I'm the Last Face You'll Ever See, The Four Corners of Horror and upcoming release They Kill.
Like his idol Alfred Hitchcock, he strives to bring suspense to his books.
Leather Head, the previous story, ended at the point where Gable survives after almost being murdered by a serial killer. The continuation in this second book is where the police are at the crime scene and the killer sees a chance to escape.
Gable and his best friend, Shawn, who helped Gable at the tough ‘moment supreme’, will take a vacation, away from the crime scene. Palm Springs is the place they go.
Parallel to Gable and Shawn, we can follow some other couples, also arriving at Palm Springs. We can watch them having fun, well, not only fun!
Leather Head’s hate is deeply rooted, his head is constantly in a dark place. His anger is especially against queer guys. When the opportunity arises, he strikes his victim down. He’s a mountain of a man with huge hands, imagine how they can destroy. When he arrives at Palm Springs... yes, ugh.
Dang, this author always makes me anxious and scared. It’s all so very frightening, I was a bit shaking, I couldn’t read fast enough and was also afraid to read further. All those sweet guys, they ran blindly into the trap, of course they trusted, why shouldn’t they. They expected fun, sexy time, maybe even some domination, what they got was hurt and horror from a psycho killer. There is some relief, it’s not all death and destruction. Still, I will not sleep tonight, thank you very much! Awesomely written story, fun combined with angst, fast-paced, clearly outlined. I love this author’s work.
If you’ve ever read any of Matt’s books, you’ll know you’re usually in for a shock or thrill. Whatever his mood may be lol. Either way, it’s going to be one heck of a book. And this was no different. The funny thing about this series, or set of stories, was at the end of the last one, I almost felt sorry for Leather Head. I guess you could say I really did. Finding out what his life was like when he was younger, broke my heart and I can understand why it broke him. But there was so much more to this story that killed me and was so unexpected. I feel so bad for the men that were haunted all over again from having to endure seeing him again and what he’s done. No one should ever have to face their captor again. Unfortunately, in this world, it happens too often. And all they wanted was a break away to breathe and try to get over what had happened. Only to be confronted with the very thing that still haunts them to this day. But I will never get over the ending. I think that is one thing that will stay with me for a long time. Not only because of what happened to Leather Head, but because of the outcome of this trip. It turned out in a way I definitely wasn’t expecting and I’m still in shock.
I thoroughly enjoyed writing the sequel to Leather Head, this was a long time coming. It's fun and sexy one minute and darker than dark the next. I hope you all enjoy it as much as i did writing it!
