Mindfulness and Mysticism: Connecting Present Moment Awareness with Higher States of Consciousness

Rate this book
In author Ora Nadrich's stunning new book, Mindfulness and Mysticism, she brings together the practice of Mindfulness with a spiritual understanding of becoming one with a higher consciousness, which can be called God, a supreme being, source, unity consciousness, or oneness. Ora takes the reader into a non-religious experience of mysticism by giving them what she calls "sacred truths", which are universal principles, or divine laws every human being can live by if they choose to be present with the mystery of life. With Mindfulness as the ever-present guiding escort, the greater purpose is to become more present, mindful and aware. The reader will embark upon the path of mystical self-transformation and divine inspiration to awaken to one's highest potential by getting a better understanding of how being in the present moment can raise our states of consciousness so that awakening and self-realization can be achieved. Ora has done a masterful job at bringing the practice of Mindfulness into the real world where we all live that is undeniably user-friendly. She makes it clear that we don't have to be mystics to have a deep, authentic connection to the present moment while at the same time showing that, in truth, we already are mystics in training. Ora's book reveals this truth to us very beautifully, and invites us, if we are willing to mindfully step into the present moment with absolutely no hidden agenda wherein the mystery of a mystical life awaits our arrival. At a time when chaos in our culture is staggeringly upsetting, and millions are sensing there must be something 'more' but have no idea what it is, a book like Mindfulness and Mysticism paves a path beyond confusion. It speaks to the mind as well as to the heart, both explaining the mystical and leading us into it where we can realize a connection to something greater - the divine within us. Ora Nadrich provides a traveler's companion from the delusional maze of a desacralized world, to the calm and inner peace that Mindfulness can offer. Mindfulness and Mysticism is a beautiful road map to assist one's soul on the journey of awakening, self-discovery, and mystical illumination.

The journey of Eastern spirituality into the mainstream of Western life has been documented, directly and otherwise, by countless pundits and writers. It has worn many faces and undergone several evolutions. Some pivotal “movements” in particular, such as several Beat Generation writers “converting” to Buddhism or Alan Watts’ writing on the subject, are familiar to most. Another pivotal moment came with the rise of the Mindfulness movement which has permeated many levels of society. Practitioners are scattered across the world.

Author Ora Nadrich is one of the biggest names promoting the practice. Her latest book "Mindfulness & Mysticism: Connecting Present Moment Awareness with Higher States of Consciousness" is her fourth book on the subject and delves deep into one of modern spirituality/philosophy’s most popular concepts. Nadrich’s exploration of our relationship with higher consciousness leaves no stone unturned, her inquiry is exhaustive without ever being exhausting, and the writing is invigorating from beginning to end.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: http://www.oranadrich.com

There isn’t much in the way of visual material. The book has some supplementary content supporting the text and lovely artwork included as well. Nadrich, however, relies on her writing and the power of her ideas to carry the day. It’s a wise decision. She approaches the material with wide-ranging scope. An artistic sensibility drives much of the text alongside a rigorous intelligence that never reaches shallow, short-cut conclusions.

Thirty-five chapters may seem like a lot, but Nadrich has a talent for condensing her ideas into digestible chunks. There’s no overkill. Her philosophical, religious, and artistic influences are synthesized with personal experience in a style no other writer can claim. It has self-assurance, as well, backing every chapter. She never comes across as strident, however, and the personable and loose-limbed tone of the text will appeal to many readers. You like her immediately and want to keep reading on.

It unfolds in a natural way. There is a clear structure underlying "Mindfulness & Mysticism" but it never seems like clockwork. It reads as an organic work instead of planned out. There are times reading the book that it feels like a memoir of sorts, but it never gets in the way of its other substantive content. It’s a pleasure hearing Nadrich riff, however, on how she relates to the world. "Mindfulness & Mysticism", like many works of this ilk, says as much about its author as it does its subject. It’s an often rewarding look within.

"Mindfulness & Mysticism: Connecting Present Moment Awareness with Higher States of Consciousness" deserves consideration as one of the best works on this subject in recent years. Ora Nadrich is one of the most important contributors to this school of thought and shows no signs of slowing down. Her eternally youthful exploratory spirit will never rest and the yearning to grow, push into the future, and connect with life is omnipresent throughout this book. It will cast a spell over many readers and it’s the sort of book you start anywhere and get something from the experience.

Referentially Ora Nadrich’s new book Mindfulness & Mysticism: Connecting Present Moment Awareness with Higher States of Consciousness is best summarized by the telling Albert Einstein quote christening the beginning. The quote, a decidedly left-brain turn for a book with certain literary expectations, reads as follows: “The most beautiful and profound emotion we can experience is the sensation of the mystical. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead. To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty, which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their primitive forms - this knowledge, this feeling, is at the center of true religion.” So begins the actual reading experience of Nadrich’s Mindfulness & Mysticism, a grounded and anti-snowflake take on decidedly headier themes. Depending on what you believe, the book could either be an inside look on a certain spiritualistic philosophy, or as someone who is a seeker it could serve as altruistic inspiration. Nadrich writes with an earnestness and lack of pretension that ironically many spiritualistic authors resort to. There’s a certain insecurity with how many people accomplished in fields derogatorily referred to as occultist present. There’s a doubling of the desperation experts in widely accepted fields can possess. A sort of grandiosity that can work against them to a skeptic’s eye, that can turn someone’s open mind into a series of judgments banning the insights as farcical. Nadrich avoids this handily because it’s clear she really believes in what she advocates for. There’s never a sense of a beat missed, or a roundabout explanation of a generalized concept. Simply put, Nadrich approaches the themes and methodologies presented in Mindfulness & Mysticism like any other professional articulating their form. It reads as clear, confident, and concise, complete with worldly quotations ranging from the Einstein to Shakespeare.

“We must lift the veils of deception in order to know the truth, and if we wish to know it in all of its sacredness, we must be willing to remove falseness of any kind. As Shakespeare said so famously, ‘To thine own self be true’…,” writes Nadrich in the aforementioned vein. “…it is most important that we live true to ourselves, first and foremost. Without living truthfully to ourselves, we cannot be true to anyone else. And, if we don’t continue to lift the veils of deception, we agree to live dishonestly. Stand at the door of truth, and know that you can enter it at any time. You not only hold the key, but you can see through the veils of falseness, if you so choose, and can remove yours too, if you find yourself wearing one. We are always asked to see more than we do, which requires us to look more deeply.”

The quotes from heavyweights like Einstein and Shakespeare add a particular intellectual sanctity to the whole affair. I commend Nadrich on being able to balance holism with said intellect, the intangible with the tangible. At a time like this, it makes a read like Mindfulness & Mysticism feel relevant and worldly, not trite and evanescent. It’s a solid read, and a nice set of ideas to ponder during these uncertain times.

'Mindfulness and Mysticism' by Ora Nadrich is a wonderful and insightful book on the foundations of mindfulness and spirituality. Such a peaceful and gently wise book, one that could offer the reader a richer understanding of mindfulness each time they delve into these pages. Here, in an unequalled 400 pages covering traditional teachings, scientific insights, and practical instructions, you will test for yourself the discoveries of the great wisdom traditions, including Buddhism, Christianity, Jewish mysticism, Sufism, Hinduism, shamanism, and many others.

Being a beginner into aspects of meditation, this book was a great guide on the practice of mindfulness. Meditation doesn't have to be done while sitting with eyes closed, free of any distractions. This book teaches the approach of being just aware of every action, every sound and every breath while doing our day to day work. With this approach, Mindfulness is brought together with the spiritual idea of becoming one with a higher consciousness, which is often referred to as God, the supreme being, or oneness.

Through her expertise in both science and spirituality, life coach and Mindfulness teacher Ora Nadrich demystifies the principles of Mindfulness with a spiritual understanding of becoming one with a higher consciousness and shows you how to use them in your own life. Ora Nadrich is at her simplest here, and yet her writing is still poetic and enjoyable. Using simple examples, she introduces the reader to the world of mindfulness and mysticism and shows how it is relevant to everyday life.

As thorough an introduction to the practice of meditation and the experience of the spiritual journey as one could find, but also so much more. Ora Nadrich is such a precise and articulate writer that reading to her words is as though you are directly experiencing for yourself the deep states of consciousness she is describing. Of course, though, that's not the point, the point is to get you on to the cushion to actually practice yourself.

Ora Nadrich also provides tangible steps to improve one's mindfulness, including practicing voluntary simplicity, doing non-doing, focusing on one's breath, appreciating each moment, and more. She gives practical applications alongside her more theoretical passages, and she also zones in on alternative ways to meditate based on one's specific life circumstances. All of her ideas contribute to the thorough and well-honed quality of 'Mindfulness and Mysticism' overall. This book is so dense with information and there's many passages and sentences that can give you a lot to think about.

Though not an easy read, this is a must for anyone seriously interested in mysticism and contemplative prayer. Ora Nadrich does an excellent job exploring the similarities and differences in cross cultural theologies and philosophical views and also does justice to the psychology of mysticism and mindfulness. By explaining simple methods for cultivating mindfulness, Ora Nadrich outlines how to apply it to one's everyday life. Any person who cares deeply about reclaiming the richness of their moments should read it, whether they are new to meditation or long-standing practitioners.

Mindfulness and Mysticism by Ora Nadrich is a wonderful book that makes us realize the difference between our life that we are living and that we intent to live. The scope of the book transcends its genres, as it cannot be summarized in one category. However, I personally feel it’s part spiritual, part philosophical, and of course have elements of behavior/thinking pattern psychology.
The core essence of the book is to bring a pure state of spiritual awakening, and switching to the higher state of consciousness by employing hidden virtues like aware, present, awake, and some more. As I took the book for reading, I had no definition galloping across my mind about mindfulness and mysticism. As I chugged ahead with the book, I begin understanding that what is it like to be living in the “Now” moment, and how does it happen. The book lays emphasis on being truly living in the present moment and being aware of each and every thought and action that is spiraling through our mind and heart.
The ways and patterns of our life are enigmatic. We don’t dig deeper. It’s like sleep-walk through life. We are just living; experiencing happiness and sorrow and other emotions; but the question is are we fully awake or faking to be one.
Mindfulness is all about present state of life with acceptance and non-judgmental. Many people associate mysticism with religious chores and duties, as it can only be attained and experienced by way of devotion, mediation, and worshipping. The author beats all the bets; she is of the opinion that mysticism is a union with the higher power of the creator. One can attain mysticism while doing drugs, or roaming in the park, or travelling through a mesmerizing landscape. The book defines it in its real glory, cutting it off from the religious sanctums.
As the book keeps explaining the significance of mindfulness, it also sheds light on other aspects that work collectively so that one can experience the sacred truths of life underway the mystical journey. Many a time in the book you will stumble upon the power of mindfulness, how to achieve it, and practice it in everyday life. However, a close look reveals that mindfulness doesn’t work as a stand-alone force. It has assistance…of like divine illumination, self-realization, illuminated soul, non-dualism, and much more.
If you are someone that is bogged down by the chaos of life and seeking absolute clarity to lead a meaningful and peaceful life, you should consider mindfulness for your inner awakening and spiritual upliftment. And this book is a must-act start.
Ora Nadrich’s understanding of subject is great, superb, and immaculate. The book is highly readable with its lovely share of quotes, short stories, references from philosophers, professors, etc. She writes with a rich personified language usage. The book is slightly heavy, initial readers of spirituality may feel downward, but for those who are on their way to master their higher state of consciousness will find it a close ally.

☕Mindfulness and Mysticism☕
"Sit quietly,
Close your eyes
Put your hands on your heart
Feel your breath
Say silently, I'm present
I'm grateful to be alive"
.
.
A book that truly filled my heart with power and belief and intuitions and overall the will to connect the dots to get a greater picture of life and living. I started this book long back when I felt I needed something that will nourish me from within, something that will calm me and this is it.
.
.
The book is so well crafted and organized, within those 35 meaningful chapters, there are quotes which literally caught my attention for more than I thought they'd.
.
.
What is mysticism? Is it magic? Is it a feeling? I was so curious to dig the book further and quest became more and more interesting as I moved further, each chapter connects the readers directly or indirectly to something that's within the human body, this book is so close to my heart and it's so very divine and helpful and knowledgeable, the book will help you understand the power of everything we usually underestimate.
.
.
Read it slow and calm, take notes and go back to your favorite chapters again and again, I did the same. I definitely loved it. Go for it.

My big sister recommended this book to me and it honestly couldn't have come to me at a better time. I have been feeling lost and overwhelmed by my thoughts for so long. I am going through a lot of new transitions in my life and it's very scary and uncomfortable. This book allowed me to slow down and reminded me the importance of breathing, being present. I would turn to my phone or other forms of technology to escape the moment but this book helped me realize that I don't need to escape the present, I can live peacefully in it and embrace it. That it's not a scary place to be. I love all of the quotes Ora includes. I learned I can be a beacon of light for others and for myself. This book taught me that I can believe in something bigger than myself, a higher power, a higher state of consciousness without being confined to the rules and walls of a specific religion and that we must drown out the darkness in the world to make room for the light. Cannot recommend enough!!

I have always struggled with living in the "now" and for a long time found mindfulness and meditation to be a part of a "woo woo" world I didn't fit into. I let my ego and society's definition of what a "man" should be interested in and read about get in the way of reaching a higher level of consciousness. Then I found Ora Nadrich's books. Her other works, "Says Who" and "Live True"' had such a profound impact on me, I couldn't wait to read what she wrote next. Mindfulness and Mysticism is such a thought provoking, inspiring read. It's deep, yet easy to understand for people, like myself, who are new to this world of living in the present and making mental health a priority. Now I understand that I don't need to be a "mystic" to practice mindfulness in my life. I feel after reading this, I have found inner peace and made the "spiritual shift" I needed to in my life. Thank you, Ora!

Such a unique read! Never really knew what “mysticism” was, it always sounded a bit out there to me. But this book taught me so much. I always thought you had to be religious to be spiritual but this book shows us that you can be spiritual and believe in something divine and bigger than yourself in a completely different way. Mindfulness and Mysticism has really inspired me to find the light in this world and not let the darkness take control over my life.

lost interest halfway through. it's not a bad read, and it's an interesting topic, but i'd rather focus on other stuff. the overall idea of the book is that people can experience the euphoric effects of drugs and alcohol naturally (albeit infrequently and not at will) by practicing mindfulness, through meditation and whatnot, for a significant portion of their lives (talking decades). i don't find that to be a worthy undertaking whatsoever, but there are more immediate and practical benefits that make mindfulness worth dipping into on a more casual level
