Nicholas and his crew escape the frying pan only to find themselves thrust into the fire. Forced to choose between an unsavory alliance and imprisonment, they’re about to be pushed deeper into the crucible with no idea who or what to trust.
The only thing they know for sure is that no one expects them to survive...
M.R. Forbes is the author of a growing number of science-fiction series including Rebellion, War Eternal, Chaos of the Covenant, Stars End, and the Forgotten novels. Having spent his childhood trying to read every sci-fi novel he could find (and write his own too), play every sci-fi video game he could get his hands on, and see every sci-fi movie that made it into the theater, he has a true love of the genre across every medium. He works hard to bring that same energy to his own stories, with a continuing goal to entertain, delight, fascinate, and surprise.
He maintains a true appreciation for his readers and is always happy to hear from them.

This story just continues to get more and more complicated with The Stack and The Layers. So someone is a good guy here, but he's a bad guy in every other layer? Or vice versa? It's a lot to keep up with - especially when a character dies. At least we know that character is probably alive in another layer.
The big battle at the end was good. It does seem like Yasmin is the one who seems to have all the answers to everything and yet she's my least favorite character. Most of this I could see coming from a mile away. It didn't really detract from enjoying the book - but I say it because this book definitely has its flaws.
Regardless, I love the series and the world at large. Dave Jackson is great on the audio.
Very fast pace. No extraneous filler. Somewhat novel concept. Surprised at connections to other books by this author. This review is for all three books so far. Reading this series cleansed my palette after the prior author that I cannot finish. Such a delight to read a professional author!
But the story line kept the suspense tight! And there is still book 4. Which has a chance to change the fate of the Knights. I pray that their fate will beat net positive. Maybe the lost souls of our group will be replaced with their doplegangers/doubles! Time to find out,.......!
A great read as always! I have read all the books in this universe. I know all of the people that have come in and out of the different worlds and love all the characters!
Really loved the continuation of the story. Fun thoughts on the stack and possible outcomes. Nice development of Koth and Axon plot lines. I still think the ancients should be in their true form more often. Already starting the next.
Story is woven like only Forbes can. Doesn't disappoint! And it's nice to see familiar characters that we've always loved, back in action again, as well as new favorites developed!
An addictive series. Original, very well written and a real page turner. It’s quite a while since I’ve read anything this good, not saying what I’ve been reading is bad, just that this is very, very good.
This one was rough and though there is no cliff hanger, you wonder how they will get out of this mess. It was brutal, but still left room for hope. Can’t wait for the final round.
Not as engaged with these characters as with previous stories in the "Forgotten" Universe. Cannot gel with the versions of Sheriff Duke or Caleb Card in this series. The multiverse aspect is not a great concept in this Universe. Please excuse the pun!
