I've always been super interested in astrology but, over the past couple of years, I've had a friend who has really heightened my love for it. I'm always wanting to know more about it and I asked for this book for Christmas and, I mean, WOW. It's completely changed the game.
It goes into detail about everything! It discusses each sign at the beginning, but the rest of the book is completed dedicated to the parts of astrology that I've never researched. It talks about the different planets and what they mean in regards to your birth chart, the different houses, the modes and polarities. It goes into how everything connects to each other and differently affects your life. It's just so INTERESTING and I've been poring over it for the past few days, completely fascinated. This book makes it easy to understand and comprehend; it makes astrology fun and reachable.
For astrology newbies, this book is just FANTASTIC and I hope anyone with questions picks it up. SO GOOD.

3.5 - Definitely had some interesting tidbits I hadn't heard before, and at times felt so seen that I had to laugh. Good to have for background knowledge as I look at my chart, but not mandatory reading.

Decent beginner book with beautiful graphics and illustrations. Definitely meant for people who know little to nothing about astrology. Most of my reading on this subject up til now has been on the internet and I found this was somewhat beneath whatever level I'm currently at with the topic of Astrology (I am by no means an astrologer or an expert on the subject.) It's worth the read, especially for brand new beginners, and it is a beautiful book.

Helped me understand some of the meaning of the houses and rising parts of astrology. Felt pretty spot on for me. Had to return for a hold.

My intellectual curiosity got the better of me and accidentally led me to this great introductory book into the world of astrology. Usually I am quite skeptical of anything that claims to have divinatory powers like tarot and I still am to an extent but I have found too many meaningful coincidences that have arisen from my quest to understand myself through the stars and it has at least opened me up to the idea that our lives could be fated by the celestials of our solar system. However, I still hold all its claims with a grain of salt because I don't want to go down the path of relying too heavily on astrology to direct my life. I found so far it is more useful to use astrology to analyze larger patterns in your life and to understand your inner drives better, rather than using it to listen to your daily horoscopes which never seems to be accurate. I had no prior knowledge of anything regarding astrology, but now I feel I have a solid grasp of my natal chart, all the zodiac signs and house meanings, and more.

Lovely art that made it simple for me to fall down the rabbit hole of astrology, tho I got lost when it came to the aspects and the transits. Did this teach me how to read my own birth chart? Frankly, no. Did I learn a lot more about each sign and house etc etc? Definitely.

This was like the encyclopedia of astrology. Taylor shares everything you could possibly want to know, including detailed looks at the zodiac, the houses, planets, and how to break down and read an astrological chart. This was so informative and gave me a lot of insight into a topic that I've always been interested in but where I didn't have a good knowledge base. I read a library copy, but I'm definitely going to be getting a hardcover edition for my own bookshelf.

Beautiful book, but confused me more than it helped me. There’s not enough of the basic information to make the advanced information helpful

Really great overview of the basics, I enjoyed the graphics and zine style layout. It feels like a high school textbook (in a good way).

Really enjoyed the graphics and illustrations that were throughout the book. The information was pretty basic and the only new thing I gained in this book was about Chiron (even then I didn't learn too much about it). I found the last two sections (Understanding Yourself and Life Events) confusing and a bit hard to understand, since it seemed none of the stuff it talked about applied to me and my chart. The book is pretty and easy to read, but if you want to truly understand astrology there are better books out there to read instead.

This book is too poorly organized to properly read, let alone review. It refers to birth charts right from the get-go, but then doesn't get around to explaining it until page 110-something. Even then, it doesn't explain how to get one, other than "go online." This book was attractively designed but the content is dense and largely unfun.

My knowledge of astrology was very slim to none. I knew a lot about the moon and work a lot with the moon. I also knew my three main signs and had done my birth chart online a few times but didn't really understand it. This book has given me a basic but larger understanding of astrology.

It's an enjoyable read from start to finish. The information is explained clearly, making it easier to grasp. There are still a lot of things I don't know or understand but there's a great further reading list that I'll definitely dive into. The pages are also laid out beautifully.

I feel like I've learnt a lot about myself through this book. With my ascendant sign in Cancer, the moon rules my chart, which explains so much. Reading this helped me realise that, yes, I am very emotional but this can be used as a power by allowing my emotions to guide me. The book also helped me realise how much creativity is in my chart which gave me more confidence and faith in my creative abilities.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who's interested in astrology but doesn't really know where to start. Although it covers the basics of various aspects of astrology, I feel like I've come away with a much deeper understanding. And I can't wait to learn more.

Mostly one reviews a book on astrology in terms of its content and the author’s knowledge and approach to the subject. While all of that is exceptionally well crafted and presented in this volume, the design and the layout also hugely enhances its accessibility.

There is rich material here for the beginning astrologer. If you were a beginner and you worked through the book methodically you would emerge well-versed in the fundamentals of the art. One excellent feature of the book is the flexibility of its interpretations. In various ways the author explains that astrology is a symbolic system and therefore its meanings can work at different levels. The interpretive notes are laid out in such a way to show and encourage flexibility and adaptability.

The book lays out basics about planets, signs and houses, but also touches upon aspects, nodes and transits. It then gives examples of practical applications in different departments of life.

The book is more than an introduction. There is a depth of expertise in the writing, and an impressive concision in the presentation that also make it a useful reference for those with some astrological experience. The book is simply splendid!

I picked this up last Christmas-time from Barnes & Noble, as it was one of the high-lighted on-sale items. It's taken me awhile to work through it, but that's because I had my natal chart printed out and I was working through my chart and making notes as I went along. I know not everyone agrees with astrology or thinks its symbolism useful, but holy cow has it helped me understand myself better. In so many ways. I loved how easy this book was to use, how colourful the visuals, how straight-forward and easy to understand. It was well formatted, well written, and it even came with zodiac cards in a pouch in the back. Quite happy with this book.

The drawings and illustrations are so bright, colourful and aesthetically pleasing to look at. I enjoyed reading through it, the information itself is probably catered more towards beginners on Astrology, nevertheless, the different sections of the book allowed me to learn so much!! It has how to read your birth charts, themes to look out for and it also looks into life events and transits. Such an amazing, beautiful book!

As a beginner, while listening to various systems (tropical vs siderial and placidus vs whole sign, etc) I came to the conclusion that tropical system of zodiac is astronomically incorrect. It seems stupid to me that tropical astrologer use zodiac as a foundation while not considering the 25 days' offset. But the book is great in every other aspect, and can take anyone to the elementary proficiency in tropical astrology.

A great BEGINNER book in modern astrology, especially helpful in helping beginners understand how to understand and work with houses according to theme instead of house by house- though the house ruler was under emphasised. The graphics, and examples of chart interpretation, are valuable.

The definitions of placements were simplified, so the reader will need to read elsewhere to learn how to interpret more deeply.

I found this to be a really good beginners resource into astrology. As someone who has scoffed at it in the past as purely entertainment had found a lot of useful information on how to discover yourself. 4 out of 5 because while the illustrations are wonderful and make for a great coffee table book I found that images were used to fill a lot of empty space. Making this a quicker read than anticipated.

This book was exactly what I was looking for! Very thorough and insightful for an astrological hobbyist like me. I had very little knowledge about houses, or how the planets in each house relates. Or anything beyond my own star sign was as relevant as it is. It’s a lot of information, a good reference book and I look forward to studying the material and diving deeper.

Oh, the book comes with study cards tucked away in a tidy little attached folder in the back…love this!

A VERY good book for people just beginning to learn about astrology. It's visually stimulating and every description is effectively simple. Because of that, this book is also one I love to use when I'm just looking for information to brush up on. After having this book for over a year, it has proven useful multiple times. I'd definitly recommend it!!

This is a great beginner book to pick up when you have ADHD and just need some quick accurate information about astrology. What I mean by "when you have ADHD", is that you don't have to read through a bunch of writing to find what you are looking for and there are a bunch of visuals for visual learners as well.
This is a great book alongside other more in-depth astrology books.
