“A Bird Made of Sky” is a touching tale about Noah, a boy who is lonely for many reasons: he is a missionary and travels a lot with his parents, he is bullied at school and sleepwalks. Because he feels so isolated and misunderstood, Noah ends up becoming even more attached to his own family. When he notices that his grandmother is acting strange and withdrawn, he decides to unravel the mystery and help her feel better, even if his parents haven't noticed.
How can someone so young have such sensitivity? The story has a beautiful message about mourning and longing, but for me, the most important message is about self-acceptance. Noah suffers from not being able to stabilize himself and have friends like other young people, but even facing all this loneliness and the constant mockery at school, he tries to give some meaning to his condition as a sleepwalker, using it to help people. In my view, this is Noah's attempt to accept himself, despite his “flaws”. It's beautiful and well worth reading!
