Wrong choices have consequences. His can destroy the world.
After the last Koschei attack, Damian Blake’s life becomes a never-ending nightmare. As if being a Destiny Enforcer is not hard enough, he must help his brother keep the rogue vampires out of his state and Paradise Manor safe from a supernatural invasion. But when the Flagstaff PD asks him for help with a trivial theft investigation, his life takes an unexpected turn.
According to the owners, an antique ring has been stolen. The only problem—the ring is still in the house, and the insurance appraiser swears to its authenticity. As Damian delves deeper into the investigation, he quickly realizes the case is not as simple as it appears to be. But no matter in which direction he turns, he finds himself facing a dead end. And if that is not enough, something or someone is shifting the balance toward Darkness, threatening the safety of the entire world.
With time running out and deadly monsters on his trail, Damian must unravel the web of secrecy surrounding the missing ring and stop the powerful enemy before it’s too late. As the sun quickly dims, plummeting the world into an endless night, Damian has no choice but to make a desperate move.
The kind of move that may not only cost him his life but his brother’s as well…
If you like a fast-paced, action-packed Urban Fantasy novels with dynamic characters, intense action, and breathtaking suspense, then you'll love this edge-of-your-seat series, with a touch of Slavic mythology.
N.M. Thorn currently lives in South Florida with her husband and son. Owner of a digital marketing agency by day and a writer by night, she loves spending her times creating new worlds, paranormal planes of existence and anything that could be described as supernatural.
When she is not busy working with everything digital or exploring fantasy worlds, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, painting and martial arts.
Can this author get any better? After the third book in this series, I didn’t see how, but Thorn has done it again. This time, I really had my doubts how Damian and Cole were ever going to get themselves out of their predicament. With most avenues of assistance closed off, the enemy several steps ahead, an adversary hidden in their midst, and Damian so exhausted he’s not even running on fumes any longer, there wasn’t even a glimmer of hope on the horizon. But, of course, Thorn paints the path — although not an easy one for the brothers — and give them a sliver of hope. As always, the world building is on par, the attention to detail excellent, and the character development beyond the capabilities of many authors. Layer upon layer is added to all the recurring characters, although fully fleshed out from the beginning, and we get to know all their little quirks, habits, and idiosyncrasies, as well as see them develop both personally and in their relationships. I love the mythology woven into the very fabric of each story, and they’re always further built upon, nuances added, and details spread throughout to form a backdrop so intricate as to blow your mind, but also beautifully simplistic as the reader is fed them verse by verse to lay the stepping stones they follow like breadcrumbs. Its superbly crafted, emotionally written with nail biting challenges, and a sprinkling of love and laughter. A true page turner, and one I devoured as fast as my reading speed would let me. If you haven’t read the Shadow Enforcer Series yet, I highly recommend you start now. And don’t forget the Fire Salamander Chronicles which preceded this one. These are all stories to get lost in and not come out until you’ve read the very last word. Can we please have a heart-to-heart conversation between Gypsy and Zhulik?
The Shadow Storm is the best book of the series to date, and that is saying quite something, since I have been a fan of this series since the beginning.
Thorn is a master of weaving a thrilling tale of magick and mayhem with compelling (and deeply flawed) heroes and heroines, all while tying in ancient Slavic lore and mythology into the modern world. She makes you care and worry about nearly indestructible characters such as nearly god-like Destiny Enforcer in Damian, and his brother Cole, a thousand year plus vampire who just happens to be the King of the Arizona Vampire Court.
Many of the stalwarts of the series play significant roles in this grand tale — Damian and Cole, of course, but River (and boy is she pissed!), her sarcastic cat Gypsy, Ruslan - Cole’s maker, Mara - the Slavic goddess of nightmares, and a handful of various Slavic gods all make appearances and play a part in this grand tale. FBI Agent Jim Andrews (from the Fire Salamander Series) shows up as well.
But as with every entry in her series, Thorn weaves in new characters, concepts, and diabolical foes. There is Declan Storm, a mysterious convict who is WAY more than he seems, a Slavic version of the Wheel of the Year, and new demon that is scarier and way more powerful than anybody is prepared for!
Only Thorn can gather so many disparate threads and weave them in to an entertaining and compelling tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat as you are reading.
Damian and Cole certainly have their hands full with the adventure she takes them on, all while the Destiny Council realm is shutdown and unable to provide any assistance, even as the fate of the human world hangs in the balance!
Do yourself a favor and get this book! If you haven’t already read the first three in the series, you need to remedy that right now!
Damian is busy, guarding from another Koschei attack, helping Cole with rogue vampires and doing his general job as a Destiny Enforcer. When River receives a call from the flagstaff PD asking for Damians help with a robbery, things start to get really strange. A house that has magical artifacts, a husband that has no idea his wife is a supernatural being and a referral from the dying woman for Damian to seek out Declan Steele. Declan is in jail in Florida to make matters more difficult. And that’s just the beginning of problems. The time when the Light and Dark gods meet to switch places is coming up and unless something is done, the Dark will take over and destroy the world. The Destiny Council is blocked off from everything. Damian and Cole have a big job in front of them. This book has a lot of action, light and dark magic, Slavic gods, suspense, surprises and lots more. It is not a light book; there are a lot of darker areas. More of Damian and Coles backgrounds come out but it leads to more questions. This book and series have me completely enthralled.
When my alert notified me that NM Thorn had a new book, I downloaded it immediately and didn't stop reading it until the last page was finished!
The Shadow Storm picks up where The Shadow Paradox ends. As usual Damian finds himself with more questions than answers as he tries to make sense of the strange events around. You feel for Damian as he can never achieve the peace he desires but constantly eludes him due to his destiny as an Enforcer.
The Shadow Storm brings back our favorite characters: Cole, Ruslan, River, Jamie, and of course my personal favorite, Gypsy. Koschei returns with other enemies and ultimately a new challenge for Damian as part four of his journey concludes.
As usual NM uses her incredible talent to weave a mystical world of magic that is so vivid that the reader feels he or she is fighting alongside Damian and Cole.
If there’s one thing that I’ve come to appreciate about N.M. Thorn it’s the consistency in their setup, in the story, and how it never lets me down. Every time I read one of their books, it feels like coming home to a group of friends I haven’t seen for a long time, and I am welcomed with hearty laughs and a slap on the back. The Shadow Storm is no exception to this. Once again, N.M. Thorn weaves a wonderful tale about Damian and Cole, the two brothers who are more than they appear to be, including new characters you instantly like (or dislike), with twist and turns that will make you turn the pages faster than you can breathe. Even after the fourth book, I feel like it’s not enough. I could read hundreds of books in this series and not be satisfied, but nevertheless, this book was well worth the wait, and I’m already impatient for the next installment.
Another fantastic story from the mind of NM Thorn! I have spoken at great length on these books’ awesome world building, relatable characters and cool Slavic lore. What I really loved about this particular entry was the relationship between the brothers. Cole and Damian’s dynamic is played to great effect in the Shadow Enforcer books, but Book Four is where you feel the bond as they fight supernatural enemies, grapple with the ethics of their own powers, and play off the supporting cast and each other. I highly recommend this series to all urban fantasy fans!
Great story. I love the characters. The romantic side of the story kind of takes away from the plot. I, personally, do not like someone who thinks so much of themselves, they "do what is best for the other person." The number of grammatical errors and genuine typos also took away from the book. I don't expect perfection, but there were a lot more in this one than the previous three.
I could not put this book down, till the very last page. It is just amazing how well it's written. It creates its own mood, and some very deep thoughts there calls for parallels with today's realities.
This series is a pleasure to read and this boo is no exception. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series in order to see what other twists and turns like ahead.
Another GREAT story! New characters! One of the characters now has his own series! Absolutely loved all of it. You can never go wrong with any novel written by NM Thorn
