The Mummy Portrait

Rate this book
In the 1st century AD an Egyptian portraitist who calls himself Horatius promises to immortalize a beautiful girl through his work. Two thousand years later a London-based art conservator, Mia, recognizes her own face in the mummy portrait that has just been delivered to the British Museum. The mummified body itself and other artifacts from the archeological find are far from ordinary. Could ancient magic be at play, and will the evasive Professor Livingstone help Mia understand the mystery she is encountering?

The Mummy Portrait is a page-turning, touching parallel story of love and loss, with a metaphysical twist. The ancient past intertwines with present-day to weave a beautiful world in which anything is possible.____________________________________________________________________"Two Worlds in One!

This is a complex tale of past and present-day events woven carefully together to create a captivating tale of loss, love, and purpose. A tragic tale of two sisters, an Egyptian portraitist, and ancient magic plays a significant role in this story along with the infamous Professor Livingston. Secrets abound and only time will tell the ultimate end of this story.

The author, Anna Abgarowicz carefully weaves a curse-filled story of magic and loss, the strong belief in Egyptian gods and fate. The story is complex with layers, but well detailed allowing the listener to follow along easily. Character development is thorough and well-done. Dialogue is authentic sounding and properly reactive. Just when the listener thinks they know where the story is headed, Abgarowicz throws in a plot twist that makes the listener rethink the storyline. Moving between the different storylines is done effortlessly.

The narrator, Saethon Williams provides an authentic performance. Each character was well performed with a rich voice and personality appropriate to their situation. He spoke clearly and his delivery was smooth.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the emotional tug this book will pull from the listener. There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook, it was well done.

"You just keep digging through the sand until you find something nice. Then take your time looking at it for as long as you can before you have to give it away. Then you dig again."

I got intrigued by The Mummy Portrait after seeing it on Twitter for the first time. Archaeology and all things Egyptian (also Greeks and Romans) have always fascinated me. As soon as I saw it I decided to begin reading it. Wow! At first, I thought it would be a simpler historical fiction, but it is so much more! The plot twists are more than I could have imagined, and the author makes it easy for the reader to put all the pieces together! The interesting plot kept me reading for hours, and some plot twists made me pause for a moment to be stunned/in awe.

This book is a must-read for anyone interested in archaeology, history, adventure, and resurrection!

Realy good book. I love how it manages to immerse you in both the world of the present and of ancient Egypt. it amazes me how the plotline manages to get you to a point where you almost think you know whats going on and then it changes it completely and then at the very end of the book it lines all of those plot twists together into one cohesive a story that makes sense in this fictional world. This brings deep satisfaction to me and makes me feel smart that I managed to figure it out (which frankly I am not and also did not). On a completely different note, I also enjoyed the character arcs and development throughout the whole story. I would write what my favorite part and characters are but I'm afraid that the author will come after me if I spoil the story. My final rating is 10/10.

5/5 just for the cat
Not really but seriously I loved the cat.

The split timeline was handled very well and I quite liked the ending.

PERFECTION, well almost. The "almost" incest is not for me, but PERFECTION still.

It's like reading a translated version of an ancient tale. Perhaps, it is.
