This is by far one of my all time favorite books. Ive read it at Least four times over the years. Evan Green sure knows how to tell a great story. Im currently listening to the Audio Book version which has brought the story right back to life again. If you see it you simply must read or listen to this book.
The Audio is read by Humphrey Bower. Since obtaining his BA in English language and literature at Oxford University, Humphrey Bower has worked extensively in Theatre, tv, and audiobook narration. He won the prestigious Audie Award (US) for his performance of the family frying pan by Bryce Courtenay
I haven't read it for a long time, but I remember loving it, so much so that I re-read it some time later, maybe a couple of years later. Well worth reading, if it's still in print..
What a fun listen! Love the narrator, Humphrey Bower, and the story was gripping. I had no idea it was based on a real event. Here's a video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rADZW...
Terrific, fun book. Sure, this has all the familiar figures and plot devices of a B movie, including a public hero on his last gasp, a colorful raconteur and national hero, petty criminals and gangsters, a good man caught in a trap, and a young hero and heroine in love. But the book is never dull, with the nuance and colour of the Australian outback in the 1950s in ravishing detail, as well as the delightful eccentricities of the various characters. If you do this as an audiobook, as I did, you'll also get the incomparable Humphrey Bower as narrator. Did I mention this book was terrific fun?
A great listen! I first heard Humphrey Bower narrating Bryce Courtenays novels and have worked my way through his oeuvre! A fascinating glimpse of astralia n the 50s. Didn't realize it was based on true people til the epilogue. Can't wait for the movie which is in production.
