White Haven Witches

White Haven and the Lord of Misrule

Rate this book
Christmas promises to be eventful when the celebrations are turned on their head…

Yuletide is approaching, and Stan, the town’s pseudo-druid, has decided the festivities will be different this year. He announces he is the Lord of Misrule and appoints his Court of Fools.

Very quickly odd things start to happen.

Previously unseen magic is revealed, and paranormal characteristics are unveiled.

And unfortunately, darker events occur, too.

Unless Avery, Alex, and the other witches can find a solution, Yuletide may not be as joyous as they hoped.

I'm a writer, a pagan, and a witch, and consequently love all things magical. I write fictional books about witchcraft and the paranormal, and they are jam-packed with fabulous characters, colourful settings, plenty of action, and lots of humour.

I was born in England, in the Black Country, but moved to New Zealand in 2006. I lived near Wellington with my partner Jase, and my cats Sacha and Leia. However, in April 2022 we moved again! Yes, I like making my life complicated… I’m now living in the Algarve in Portugal, and loving the fabulous weather and people. When I’m not busy writing I read lots, indulge in gardening and shopping, and I love yoga.

Confession time! I’m a Star Trek geek – old and new – and love urban fantasy and detective shows. Secret passion – Columbo! Favourite Star Trek film is the Wrath of Khan, the original! Other top films – Predator, the original, and Aliens.

In a previous life I was a singer in a band, and used to do some acting with a theatre company. For more on me, check out a couple of my blog posts. I have also written a blog about how I finally became comfortable about calling myself a witch. It's called Leaning into my Witch.

Yuletide is on the doorstep with Christmas following soon after, and our coven of White Haven witches are all geared up for the festivities, decorating their shops to welcome the many customers bound to come to their town. But this year Stan, the councillor has decided to change some of the usual plans and he intends to be the Lord of Misrule, and have the court of fools elected to bring a bit more fun to the twelve days before the solstice. However he also intends installing stocks in the main square and having people put into these, so that others can throw rotten vegetables at those accused of wrong doing. This of course did not go down well with many people, and it was just the start to the troubles which followed. The court of fools all wore jester clothes which smelled funny and which in fact made magic wielders stronger in their magic but obvious to those around them. Thus our coven of witches, including Helena our resident ghost, the Nephilim and Shadow, the fae were all exposed to the scrutiny of the normies and this did not augur well at all even though it brought more custom to Avery and Briar's shops. The costumes had been spelled and they needed to be unspelled, but our witches had no idea how to go about doing this. Who was behind this nefarious plan and why? Rupert, the occult tour leader was the main suspect but he himself was going crazy as an effect of the spelled costumes. Unveiling our witches who usually tried their best to keep a low profile must have been the evil intent, so can they put a stop to the troubles before it all turned ugly and escalated out of hand? Wow I really enjoyed reading this magical novel, I love the way our witches work together all putting their own special skills to use in order to rid White Haven of this new threat, and I love that a certain couple may be getting their act together once again, maybe romance is in the air once again!

The “White Haven and The Lord of Misrule” is such a good, short novella just in time for Christmas (or Yuletide). As always with TJ Green the story in the book makes it difficult to put down when at the same time you know you don’t want it to end. A seamless blend of the myths and magic and the supernatural with the ordinally folks from a small, Cornish town. This book can be read as part of the White Haven Witches series or the White Haven Hunters (which are both magnificent by the way!!!) or as a stand alone Novella. Once you’ve read this one I am sure you will reach for books from the other two series by TJ Green and you will not be disappointed. I absolutely love this author and her books, the imagination, stories and characters became my friends and all I want for Christmas (!) is to be able to relocate to White Haven and live there because, in the word of the Author, …” trust me, ….. everyone loves your shop, and they love you. There’s nothing wrong with having a good, dependable witch in White Haven. Or even .. the ghost of one, and coven”. A town with Witches, Nephilims, Shapeshifters, Fey, Ghosts, Pirates, Vampires, lost treasure hunters as well as occasional Alchemists and Angels being mentioned, councillor who acts a Druid (majority of the time), Christian Priest working together with witches and a police having a paranormal department seems like the best place to live in.

In this Novella we meet the White Haven Witches preparing for Winter Solstice and looking forward to peaceful celebrations, given that at every Sabatt in the past has been mayhem. However, this was not mean to be.

Stan, a White Haven Council member had the bright idea of bringing in the Lord of Misrule instead of the usual Druid theme. He thought that a Medieval theme would be different and it certainly was.
Jester costumes were aquired from an antique shop in Bath but there was something strange with them, apart from a very pungent smell coming off each one.

....and so it begins. How can the White Haven Witches, with the help of Shadow and the Nephilim stop matters spiralling outof control? The answers are in this brilliant page-turner; teamwork, magic and sometimes breaking the law a little helped them to resolve and save the Winter Solstice celebrations.

White Haven & the Lord of Misrule is really great read; the only problem I had with it was it wasn't long enough... :-)

Absolutely brilliant, couldn't put it down.
Actually disappointed when I got to the end I wanted more.
I thought it was brilliant read it all last night, kept saying to myself end of the chapter I will put it down, then it would get exciting and I would carry on.
I loved what happened with Rupert and can't wait to see where that goes.
Briar and Newton, fingers crossed that they get together as it would be so lovely.

Anything that can happen usually does.
When Christmas celebrations at the village of White Haven start having weird things happening, it's up to the witches to get it sorted. All the paranormals are displaying a strange glow, ghosts are appearing, magic is coming out of the woodwork and the townsfolk are getting nervous! What's causing it and why? Fab story! Love the characters and the story flows smoothly! Kept me turning those pages right to the end!

This book has everything you could want, mischief, magic plenty of mayhem and hilarity. I have read all the previous books in this series and I have never laughed so hard or wanted to throw a rock at someone more than in this one. Such a perfect read for your Yuletide and Christmas celebrations!
No spoilers, stop looking and yes I’m an unpaid arc reader and I really just told you my honest opinion. I’m adding this to my collection!

This quick novella centers on the season of Yule/Christmas/Solstice. The town of White Haven is celebrating in a mostly pagan way as usual, when royal court costumes, and the very old royal game of topsy-turvy is resurrected. At the same time, misguided town officials decide to build stocks in the town square to “punish” anyone accused by their neighbors. Obviously, this is all a bad idea in a village known for the paranormal and protected only by a small but dedicated coven of young witches.

White Haven and the Lord of Misrule (White Haven Witches Novella)

A brilliant addition to the White Haven Witches collection/series.

Fun and funny, but I would have loved more with Alex's vision, if it was successful, where is was from. Although the mystery of not knowing is also a good unanswered mystery.

I highly recommend this book in conjunction with this fabulous series.

This is the first book by this author that I’ve read and I loved it. I know it’s not a prequel but I loved the characters and the writing style and I’m definitely going to get all the White Haven Witches series. This novella just made me so curious about the other books and I really want to know more about these characters. This was more of a Yule story with a lot of mischief and magic. Recommend it.

Great story for the holiday season.

Stan is a White Haven council member in charge of the Yule festivities. He is to be the Lord of Misrule and there will be a Court of Fools all dressed in jester costumes. Alas, things get a little out of hand which makes this a good story.
I received this as an ARC and enjoyed reading it.

This is such a fun Yule and Christmas novella with the White Haven Witches. They are all together to solve another magical mystery that is kicked off by Stan. All our favorite witches part of the story but so are the nephilim and a couple not so favorite neighbors. This is another fantastic book by T.J. Green that you won't want to miss.

Excellent novella and as ever the author transports the reader directly into the story. The White Haven Witches need to take action to protect White Haven from some spelled costumes when they realise their magic has become visible. Really enjoyable and I can’t wait for the next instalment of this series.

I read this after reading book 4 and there were some things that seemed confusing. Only a few things I probably would have understood more if I had read the rest of the series. I could still follow along, though.
