Jeremy Dunn's biography about Ray Lewis captivated me with the life of Ray. He is my all time favorite football player. Not because of his accolades or statistics, but his emotion and hear he plays with every single game. He truly loves to be on the football field, and from all that he has gone through, he realizes that it is a true blessing to be able to play ball. I appreciated the fact that Dunn explained every part of Ray's life in detail. He didn't feel like on part of his life was any more important than the other.
I believe the theme of this book was something like, "you have been through so much in your life so far, you can get through this day, this class, this practice, or this problem." Dunn was very straight up and honest with the facts of Ray's life. Even the trouble Ray had gotten in, he didnt shy away from it or avoid the topic, he put it out there. Ray grew up with his mother, Sunseria Smith, whom supported her family by working multiple jobs doing her best to keep food on the table. Growing up in Bartow, without a father was rough for ray but he turned his anger around and it brought motivation after his high school wrestling coach showed Ray all the records his father held at Kathleen High School. He was determined to break each and every record in that book to erase his fathers name forever. This was the start of Ray's comeback, earning a full ride scholarship to the University of Miami to play football. Unfortunately, he had a minor setback after a run in with the law and suspected of being involved with a murder, but he was not convicted. Since, Ray has gone full speed ahead in his NFL career and you need to read this book to find out what other things Ray has found in his life since he was given a second chance.
I recommend this book to anybody who wants to see what they can do with a second chance and how to really make the most of your opportunities. Ray is a real life example of a man who counts his blessings. Jeremy Dunn explains Ray's early life very well, which is always my favorite part to read because everybody always knows what a famous persons life is like now, but I love to learn about how they arrived there.

Growing up in a single parent home, Ray Lewis did not have an easy childhood. While his mother worked multiple jobs in order to pay the bills, Ray had to become a caretaker for his four younger siblings. As he entered high school, Ray was in the shadows of his estranged father, who had been a star athlete in high school. However, Ray broke all of his father's wrestling records and emerged as a star football player. He earned a scholarship to play football for the University of Miami.
