As someone who is in their late teens living in a small town, where talking about sex and relationships is considered sinful and there is almost zero sex education available in the schools and colleges, reading this book was very helpful to me, and I recommend it to all the teenagers even adults who feel like they didn’t get enough sex education in their time and they don’t want their kids to be clueless about the modern world of love and relationships.
This book talks about a wide variety of things from building friendships, being totally honest with your close friends (like what if they date your ex-boyfriend/-girlfriend?), understanding your sexual identity and anatomy, embracing and loving your body as you should be, getting into relationships, breakups, different ways to practice safe sex and avoiding pregnancies, consent and respect, communication, avoiding STIs, how to deal with unplanned pregnancies (like abortion, adoption, etc.), problems with porn, some common mental health disorders, dealing with the discrimination based on your sexuality, identity, disability, etc. and how to make yourself happy.
“TALKING ALWAYS HELPS” whether you are going through a tough time, people make fun of you, your relationship ends, you are suffering from depression or you are stuck in an emotionally abusive relationship, talking with someone close to you or someone you have trust in always helps. This advice has been repeated many times in the book and I agree with it.
I also liked these slogans,
“Chicks before dicks” - which means your loyalty towards your close female friends (chicks) should come before your romantic relationship with a male and similarly “Pals before gals” - your close male friends should come before a romantic interest in any female, but again I think it depends on your definition of “your close friends”,
It was a very fun read and the best thing was that I didn’t get bored while reading the whole book because this book is beautifully written with all the stories and different fun characters of Moordale secondary school from the sex education Netflix series (even tho I haven’t watched this series).
