This is a beautifully written book, by all involved. it made me sad, though, because I moved to Tallahassee after much of the beauty described and referenced in the essays was already gone. I wish I moved here in time to experience some of what they described. it's not all gone, but it definitely is not a sleepy southern town any longer.

I truly loved this book! It told me so much that I needed to know about my beloved forgotten coast gulf coast home, where I was soon to be retiring. Beautifully written, with so much love for the unique landscape and natural wonders of the panhandle coast and surrounding areas. If you live in, have visited, or want to visit the Florida panhandle and its barrier islands, this is a book that you must read! I plan to read it again soon as a way of visiting Apalachicola, Eastpoint, and St. George Island from my new home across the country.

Some excellent essays on both historical and current pieces about the Tallahassee area of Florida with a focus on the natural landscape -- the flora, fauna, water issues, some of the efforts to save the beauty and wildness of the area.

This collection of essays is about life in the geographic area, or bioregion, encompassing north Florida and southwest Georgia. Resident writers who study, appreciate, and in some cases steward the environment they live in wrote these essays on request of the three editors who spearheaded the book project.

As one who lived in that area for twenty-two years, this book reawakened my love of that place. I am not sure how a non-resident would respond to these stories and word-pictures, but for myself I visualized it in my mind's eye, helped by my memories.

So these are really love stories about a particular place, it's critters and history and rivers and plants. Different voices and perspectives combine to form a many-faceted jewel of a collection. It makes me teary-eyed homesick and took my breath away.

I loved this book! One of my favorite places on earth - the northern Gulf Coast of Mexico. Essays, stories about all the ecology, the people, the plants, the creatures that make it unique.

I took my time reading this book -reading one chapter a day so I could think about the Tallahassee area and my memories of all the places mentioned in this book. What a wonderful collection of stories about this region!
