Inversion 2 - Continuum

Rate this book
Book 2 of the Inversion series.

At the conclusion of INVERSION 1 – Looking Through Mirrors, Angela Ana was no longer an operative on a mission to assassinate Voktor. She was now integral to the realization of his audacious plan to save the world from destructive governance. However, based on her past experience with him, she felt that there must be something sinister or at least self-serving lurking behind his assertion of good intention.

Even though he has coerced Angela Ana into taking a leadership role, Voktor does not share any information beyond her direct need-to-know. Coming from a place where she commanded her own covert ops team, this infuriated her. As she carried out his missions without knowing their true purpose, the benefits of his power were soon realized. With his help, painful memories were eased and new relationships were formed that will influence her future.

As Angela Ana settled into her new role, forces beyond her knowing were plotting to destroy everything she had built and cared about. The lives of her people were merely numbers in a cold calculation by this powerful enemy. After the fog of carnage had cleared, it became obvious their calculation omitted one critical factor.

The first thing I realized was that the books in the Inversion trilogy are not stand alone, so they must be read in order to make any sense. Characters and events in Inversion 1 would appear or be referenced in Inversion 2, and I expect, Inversion 3. This is truly one large, and deeply imagined world...which I loved immersing myself in.

I like fiction that is grounded in reality. This one is. Political and technological topics are right now or near future when it comes to AI integration in all aspects of our lives. The characters live with deep physical and psychological wounds which they try to live with and overcome. By their example, this sends a message of hope. And hope is really what this series is about. Living life in a loving and compassionate way, even in the face of extreme horror...which sits comfortably next to unimaginable beauty. Such is our world. Next up, Inversion 3.

I’ll say right off that Inversion 1 hooked me on the story and the lead character, Angela Ana. Inversion 2 – Continuum did not disappoint. Picking up the timeline on the next beat, the sweep of the story expanded in totally unexpected ways. Angela, who is the empathetic center of this universe, did not lose her charm. In fact, we get a deeper dive into her persona now that she is…I won’t give it away. I love this woman in how she can be resourceful, vulnerable, coy, sometimes lost, calculating, and lethally, cold bloodily terrifying. The powerful conclusion of Inversion 2 opens the possibility of yet another huge advance to the story. I hope that Krozer is hard at work on Inversion 3.
