The search for the tattooed convicts leads Sugimoto, Asirpa, and Shiraishi to the infamous Botaro the Pirate, a man with nearly superhuman swimming abilities. Tracking him down will test Sugimoto’s claim of immortality! Meanwhile, a serial killer stalks the back alleys of Sapporo—but is he another escapee from Abashiri prison, or someone else? The murders attract the attention of Lieutenant Tsurumi and Hijikata, and a deadly confrontation is building—but this time, who is the hunter and who is the hunted?
This is the most ridiculously vulgar and crass volume yet and is up there with volume 14 as my favorite in the series so far. No manga volume has made me giggle harder than this one!
Running out of steam a bit, so I'm not sure if my rating is accurate to how I'd feel about the quality otherwise.
Dislike Boutarou because:
1. I find him a bit boring. (Might be because of overexposure to whacky dudes). 2. He's being used as a way to (re)introduce a romantic reading of Sugimoto and Asirpa's relationship.
Because it made me uncomfortable and also I got scared of Noda's intentions, I did a bit of research into future events. There's gonna be spoilers up till the end of GK below (specifically about Sugimoto and Asirpa's relationship).
.......
From what I've learned, Noda purposefully made Asirpa a child, so as to not have to deal with people adding a romantic dimention to her and Sugimoto's relationship. He never intended there to be romance between them, and he exclusively describes them as partners, up till the very end. Boutarou is being used as a way to introduce a crush that Asirpa develops, one that, to my knowledge, never gets reciprocated by Sugimoto. At the end of GK, Sugimoto chooses to stay in Hokkaido with Asirpa and the people of her kotan. Cool. But I'm feeling myself get bogged down in the surrounding context, implications and reception to this ending. To me this is good, yay, more QPRs in the world. But there's an undeniable implication that Something, at Some Point, might happen. It could be when Asirpa's 30? 40? And that's fine and dandy, I guess, but it's just not my thing.

Boutarou the Pirate! We love we stan. The semen detective though. The only other author who can pull such ridiculous things and scene is Hideaki Sorachi. If you like Golden Kamuy, definitely check out Gintama, I'm sure you'll vibe with Gintama too.
I’m honestly not sure where the series is heading at this point. The last volume had its strong moments, but this one? I don’t even know how to put it—it was a letdown. A lot of the plot progression felt way too convenient. For example, Sugimoto and the gang just happen to bump into the candy seller while out on the street, and then they coincidentally cross paths with Botaro, the tattooed pirate, who robs the very ship they’re on. It’s just too much happenstance all at once.
On top of that, the constant betrayals and hidden agendas are starting to feel overdone. It’s like every other scene is setting up for yet another twist, making it hard to feel grounded in the story. And let’s talk about Usami’s bizarre deduction sequence—fapping to figure out where the killer is? What even was that? It left me completely baffled and not in a good way.
I had so much fun with the fight sequences on the boat! The strength it would take to throw a man clear off the top of a boat and not kill them by slamming into a lower deck… Sugimoto is ridiculously strong. I knew this, but man!!
I do wonder if Asirpa’s crush on Sugimoto will ever be fully addressed by the two of them, and he will truly reject her so she can move on knowing they are friends. I feel bad if she’s getting her hopes up at all!! But she’s also still a wee lass so it makes sense.
Ugh! Too gross… One star demerit for the fap battle of the later chapters. It seems Noda sensei’s desire to continue to out-absurd himself with potty humor can sometimes get well out-of-hand. My thirteen year old found it completely hilarious, however. So, different strokes… as they say.
Bueno. Está bien, se ha presentado a Botaro y a dos nuevos enemigos, así como se ha presentado un dato importante acerca del teniente Tsurumi. Con ganas de llegar a la conclusión de esta obra :)) 💕
Not sure how to rate this one. Starts with seamen on a ferry, seamen pirates, seamen eating fish eggs. Ends with flying semen, semen on the ground and just a taste of semen. Maybe the referenced whale was a sperm whale.
And new villain, "Jack" the Gripper.
