I didn't even start this but the ridiculous title made me smile, and I'll take that as a good sign….
----------------------------------
UPDATE: Well, I was wrong. I reserve one star ratings for books that I DNF, which I definitely did after this little nugget of literary gold:
But that was nothing to the sight of the dark hair around his groin and the bold, masculine shape of his balls and penis.
Geez. This was on PAGE 14! I snuck a quick peek at the reviews, and apparently there’s also some tragic dark twist. So it’s basically tragedy and porn, not the humorous, lighthearted romp I expected from the title.

3.5 rounded up.

Lady Marie O’Shea has enjoyed an unconventional life of relative freedom with her sisters. That’s all about to change as her brother, Lord Fergus O’Shea, the Earl of Ballymena, has returned from England determined to see his sisters married off before they bring any further scandal to the family name. When Marie is caught in a scandalous position, Fergus arranges her marriage first.

As the second son of the Earl of Kilrea, not much is expected of Christian Darrow. He loves having fun and being around people, so of course he finds himself getting into trouble with Marie from the moment they meet. Their connection is instant and well worth any scandal, but when a prank has serious consequences, Christian will need Marie to see him through, even as he pushes her away. But the curveball they’ve been thrown may be too life-altering for Christian to ever be himself again, leaving him feeling unworthy of Marie and both of them feeling shaken and uncertain of the future.

Wow this book was a rollercoaster I wasn’t expecting, especially given its short length. The initial encounter between Marie and Christian is charming and light-hearted, although Marie’s immaturity especially was a bit annoying for me. The sad twist took me by surprise, but I’ll say no more to prevent spoilers. I loved Marie’s refusal to be stymied and her determination to see everyone happily settled with the right person, herself included. I loved that she picked up the slack and kept fighting for them when Christian was ready to give up.

What frustrated me here was something that seems to occur fairly often when characters from previous books reappear later on in a series: they totally lose their previous characterization. The Fergus I met and loved in his book would never have callously forced his sister into a loveless arranged marriage. I know that was needed for this plot, but it was totally out of his established character, even if Marie was a hellion.

I enjoyed this book overall once I got over my shock at being thrown for such a loop. This was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon and it has me sorely missing Ireland.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance.blogspo...

I've enjoyed other Merry Farmer's books and "I kissed an Earl (and I liked It)" was not difference. This was a novella that introduces the O'Shea sisters who have been independently living in a cottage and have made a name for themselves from their unconventional and unsocietal ways of taking care of themselves, their interactions with the people of their village and especially the men. This was one story that made me laugh quite a bit and did provide some heart-tugging moments between Christian and Marie the main characters.

I loved the storytelling by Ms. Farmer for both characters and the heroines strong and opinionated way of getting the man she loves regardless of the circumstances. Right from the start you see the chemistry between the H/h...they are bold and fearless and unashamed of who they are and what they think. This is the first in "That Wicked O'Shea Family" series and I look forward to reading the other sisters stories in this series.

Delightful and entertaining novella.

Joy💘 To the 🌎World

ADULT Victorian Romance💕 and Adventure Novella.
Dunegard castle🏰, Victorian Ireland, 1888

Marie O'Shea💃💋 is offered up for marriage by her brother, Fergus, the new Earl of Ballymena. Fergus is confined forever to a wheelchair after an attack. The four O'Shea sisters are well known in the area as being wild and free spirited.
Shannon, the oldest, is almost thirty! The other three young ladies are not far behind. They must marry!

Fergus makes the sisters move from their seaside cottage back to the castle 🏰so he can host some balls and get togethers to find suitable husbands for them. Fergus bribes the girls with new bicycles designed for women.

Marie💃💋 crashes her bike in the sand at the shore, and meets Christian🐺🍆⛲, the younger son of another earl. In an Aidan Turner, Poldark like moment, he rises bare chested from the sea. Only this moment is X-rated!

The book starts out as a wonderful romantic💕 comedy, then becomes much darker when Christian's father and brother are killed in a horrific carriage🐎🐎🚎 accident, leaving Christian🐺🍆⛲ totally unprepared to be Earl. His mother survives, but is gravely injured. Marie💃💋 must remind Christian🐺🍆⛲ that his broken heart💔 is still beating.

ARC Provided by Bookfunnel 🌀
I also got this ebook with KU.

This is a wonderfully sweet and very romantic💕 ADULT Novella that can be read in about two hours.

This is a story that will make you laugh, cry and sometimes both at the same time. Christian and Marie are definitely made for each other, both are bold, fearless and love to play pranks. I loved the way Merry Farmer wrote their story, especially their first meeting....oooooh boy! lol

When tragedy strikes, I loved how Marie never gave up on Christian. She is my kind of heroine, fighting for what is right! Now I can't wait to read the other books in this series as they come out, I've no doubt Marie's sisters will have quite the story as well:)

I received an ARC of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This shorter, well-paced book seemed to suit my bedtime reading nicely. Set in the Victorian era, I found myself somewhat taken aback by the level of free-spirit exhibited by the heroine, Marie. Cavorting on the beach with a naked man and engaging in intimate relations outside of marriage seemed a bit too spirited for the time, but perhaps that reflected her uninhibited, bold Irish heritage. The hero, Christian, seemed a bit too immature lacking in awareness of how serious life can get. Secondary characters did not develop much, but the other spirited sisters are introduced. The author did a good job of showing how life has a way of pushing people into what my daughter would call "adulting." The author goes further to show that individuals can choose joy in whatever circumstances life offers. My favorite line in this book is "Daring to be happy in the face of tragedy is what gives life its meaning." I recommend this book to those historical romance readers who look for short, sensually exciting stories with a bit of a message before the happily-ever-after.

The song kept going through my head "I Kissed and Earl and I Like It" and set the tone for this enchanting story! Humor rules from the beginning as Lord Fergu O'Shea arrives to gather his passel of four sisters together and deem it is time for them to be married!

Of course that sets them all askew as they have been living independently at a cottage in Ireland and enjoying themselves, much to the chagrin of the town residents! First up is Marie, the youngest of the sisters who finds herself quickly in a compromising position with Christian Kilrea.

Unfortunately, Marie found herself already in an arranged marriage to his brother.. What would happen now? A delightful romp as this author is famous for that will keep you entertained until the end.

I nearly DNF this book. Not sure what to say about this story. I liked the fun piece on the beach.
It was o.k., but I don't think I will be reading more in this series. Nice touch with the most beautiful covers of the series - all being emerald green. 3☆

Quick Review
- I've realised one thing about Merry Farmer, she scoffs at the historical accuracy of any kind (if the titles of the book are any indication), as they have an outlandish plot, modern verbiage, and contemporary characters. If you are okay with it, the books can be quite enjoyable.
- I found this story to be entertaining but not engaging. As it is, the hero-guilt trope is overdone in HR, and if it is not handled well, it can be quite boring or predictable. That is what happened with this book.
- Too many parallel subplots ruined the already fledgling romance, even if I were to buy into the instalust and instalove.
- The main characters were quirky, dramatic and a little crazy. They had a weird meet-cute, funny conversations, good chemistry, and an interesting dynamic.

My Recommendation
If you don't read it, you are not missing much. If you do read it, it won't be a waste of 2 hours. I read it because it was free on KU and because I was bored.

Marie O’Shea is four & twenty, lives with her three sisters by themselves (no servants to cook, clean etc.) & the brew beer & sell it to the local pubs. Their brother, who has been in London with his wife, has returned & called for his sisters to meet him at the castle. It is at this meeting that he informs the four hoyden young women that they will be married & must move back to the castle with him. He needs them at his home to stop their wild behavior & to attend parties he will give & they either find a husband or he will choose one for them. While Marie is out riding her new bicycle, her brother gave each of them one as a bribe to get them to move back to the castle, she meets Christian Yarrow. He is swimming naked & she gets to his clothes before he does. He doesn't care that he is naked - they are instantly attracted, play a prank on two ladies, share a kiss. This is only one of many fun happenings between these two & each of them is as mischievous as the other. You will laugh your way through this - even though there is some tragedy of a carriage wreck but the "love at first sight" connection between Marie & Christian will win in the end!

Nicely written novella with some steamy romance scenes. There were both fun scenes and dramatic scenes. It did feel modern (1880's country Ireland) re values, speech etc, but it was entertaining.

Entertaining

An emotional yet entertaining, at times laugh out loud hilarious, story. The wicked O’Shea sisters are a handful, living their lives to the fullest and they are delightfully wicked. Lord Fergus has returned determined tame his sister’s wayward ways. A Selkie, a bicycle named Lucifer and a tragedy sets the scene for Marie and Christian’s romance.

I absolutely loved this one! Lady Marie and her sisters are having a blast, until their older brother decides it’s time for them to start acting like ladies and get married. And he decides he will choose husbands for them. Meanwhile, Marie runs into Christian as she rides her new bicycle past the beach, and he’s not wearing any clothes. And because Marie doesn’t react like a typical woman, he doesn’t dress. In fact, she even takes his clothes from him. Long story short, someone sees them together, Marie tries to convince the old woman Christian is actually a selkie, fails, and brings embarrassment down on her family. Her brother immediately betrothes her to someone without consulting with her. And if he’d betrothed her to Christian, this story wouldn’t exist because it would immediately have a happy ending.

Instead, both Christian and Marie are betrothed to others and scheme to figure out how to get out of it. The more time they spend together, the more they realize what they share is more than just friendship and someone with whom they can have fun. They fall in love, but neither seems to be able to figure out how to escape their fates. Finding their way to their own happy ending is the main theme of this book. Is it okay to be happy when someone else suffers? Should you allow guilt to prevent you from ever enjoying life? Must you fulfill someone ele’s promises when they won’t make anyone happy? Luckily, Marie knows the answers to all of those questions. She just has to convince Christian to see things her way.

There were a few parts of this story that had me chuckling. Fergus, the older brother, was injured in some previous book, lost an eye, and now uses a wheelchair. That’s not the funny part. After Marie is caught with a naked Christian, her brother is furious. “Marie snapped her mouth shut and lowered her head slightly when it looked as though her brother might regain every bit of his power of movement through sheer willpower for the express purpose of lunging at her to wring her neck.”

This description was so wonderful, describing someone so wracked by regret that they no longer seem like themself. “It was as though Marie were looking at a a badly-drawn image of him instead of the real Christian.” And I loved this. Marie wants to convince Aoife to go along with something, but can’t tell her what it is. When Aoife asks if she’s bringing her to a particular place, she wasn’t planning to, but it sounds like as good an excuse as any to get her moving. “Marie had planned to use a different excuse—one involving a puppy in need of help—but if Lady Aoife wanted to write her own script for the prank, then Marie would go along with it.”

It was clever wording like this, combined with unusual (for that time) outlooks on life that had me falling in love with Marie and Christian. They had an enthusiasm and love for life that made them seem child-like in their joy. What a great couple. And yes, they eventually figure it all out.

This is a delightful romance by Merry Farmer. Marie and her three sisters are known as the shocking O'Shea girls and are wild unconventional and beautiful. Marie Marie takes takes her bicycle for a ride in order to learn how to use it. She loves the freedom of it and rides near a beach where she crashes and a male voice in the water asks if she is alright. They enjoy a joking banter until she realizes he is naked in the water and his clothes are lying on the beach which she grabs up daring him to come out of the water to retrieve his clothes. When he comes out - he comes comes out he comes out in his naked glory she brazenly admires him. This begins their tale. And a very enjoyable romance it is..er

This started out really cute, and I was looking forward to nice, light, feel-good story. But around half way through, this thing just goes bonkers!

description

So Christian and Marie meet at the beach, while he's swimming nude....in the middle of the day. Kooky, but OK. They kiss, and get caught by some woman. So, of course, Marie needs to get married to avoid a scandal.

But, instead of being married off to the man that she was caught with, her brother betroths her to Christian's older brother. While on the same day, Christian is betrothed to a different woman from the village.

Of course, Christian and Marie need to come up with a plan to end their engagements, and up until this point I was really into this and thought this was going to be a fun story. Then, while they're off getting it on

description

But it gets even stranger! You would think that at least now Christian and Marie can get married to each other. But NO!!!!!!!! Christian decides that he can't break off an engagement to a woman he doesn't care about to marry the woman he actually loves and has already banged until he knows that the other woman is already in love with someone else!

description

This is seriously insane. I liked the characters in the beginning, but Christian ends up being a freaking nutjob. And Marie is so self-centered she doesn't care anything about what Christian is going through and can't even bother to wear black after her fiancé died. They both end up being pretty darn unlikable.

The first paragraph sets the feel for this book. Those Wild, Scandalous O'Shea's. Allowed to run wild and free, all four of the sister's have a modern feminist opinion of what is right and true for women.

Now as their brother has summoned them for a very important family meeting. It is decreed the girls will marry. As an incentive for them to cooperate he bribes them with bicycles.

Marie, the youngest, is excited about the bike and gives no thought to marriage. As she is learning to ride and maneuver the bike she heard to the cottage and beach. To her shock their is a "naked" man in the water.

Christian Darrow is the second son of Lord Kilrea, carefree and enjoying life. She to his prank now he is being to his fun life will now be with a wife. However, not with the first Lady Marie. That pleasure goes to his brother. No, say it isn't so!!

As the two try to get out of the engagements, the last ditch effort is to keep Lord Kilrea from the announcement ball. That goes ends in disaster. Now to honor the last wish Christian wants to go thru with the wedding.

Lady Marie finds out Last Aoife is attracted to Lord Garvagh. So she tries to convince Christian that the accident was not his fault and to get him to see who he should be marrying.

The handicapped adventure these two free spirits have are a great read and have their trails. You will love this crazy romp set in Ireland. No villains! That's a treat.

This is an enjoyable romance, not at all what I would have expected. Marie and her sisters are admittedly wild and unconventional, just wanting to do what they want and to have fun. So when their brother, Lord Fergus O’Shea, returns home, he plans on marrying them off to force them to settle down. He gives each a bicycle, and Marie begins her adventure.

The bicycle does give Marie a sense of freedom but, as she rides near a beach, she loses control and crashes. A stranger is in the water and she notices his clothes, realizing he must be nude! Instead of politely leaving, she grabs the clothes and dares him to come get them. Christian Darrow, the younger son of an Earl, takes her dare and steps out of the water. So once again, she does the unexpected and, instead of leaving or turning her back to give him privacy, she admires the view! The two are perfect for each other, both putting their pranks and fun ahead of propriety. But how will they deal with the consequences that come with one’s actions when it’s no longer considered childish fun and games?

I enjoy humor in stories, and this was very funny and even shocking! I will definitely be watching for the next book in this series, since Marie’s sisters sound equally as brazen and ready for trouble. Grab your copy and see what Marie and Christian get up to that gets them in trouble.

What an absolutely fun and delightful read! Whenever a book by Ms. Farmer comes out, I know I am in for some great entertainment. This book definitely did not disappoint! The story pulled me in from the very first page and I was engrossed and captivated till the end. Marie is an unconventional beauty with a wild and free spirit. She just wants to have fun and enjoy life. Her brother returns from England and decides to marry off her and her sisters in order to tame them. When Marie is caught in a compromising situation, looks like she might be the first to go. The sparks between Christian and Marie just flew off the page, they had such amazing chemistry! I loved how their relationship grew, despite Christian pushing her away. This is well-written, captivating, and entertaining story. So many cute, laugh out loud moments, I just had so much fun reading this. While there is plenty of humor, there are also some heartbreaking and shocking moments which will keep you glued to the story. This was an absolutely delightful read and I'm really excited to see what predicaments Marie's sisters get into in the upcoming books. Excellent start to a wonderful new series! Highly recommended!

Merry Farmer has done it again with this delightfully charming story! “I Kissed An Earl And I Liked It” is such a wonderful and apropos title and the cover is lovely.

Lady Marie O’Shea, known as one of the four, as the shocking O'Shea girls and Christian Darrow, the original bad boy, younger son of an earl were meant for one another! Christian and Marie are free spirited and fun loving souls drawn to one another like a moth to a flame. They are living life to the fullest, enjoying each and every moment in this charming story. That is until her brother, Fergus the Earl and Christian’s father take matters in hand.

This is a wonderful story where the characters are so vibrant and alive they come off the pages as you become absorbed in their story. The sparks fly almost immediately and the sisters can be quite scandalous at times. The dialogue was just perfect and a witty banter will keep you smiling. An exciting storyline filled with equally exciting characters and lots of fun and mayhem with a hard won happily ever after.

I thank you Ms. Farmer for such a fun spirited love story! I look forward to reading more of your work.

This is one of those books that grabs your attention from the very beginning and keeps it to the end. Its a romance but there is so much humor written in the story, that it is makes for a very entertaining read. Lord Fergus’ sisters are free spirits and even though they are ladies, they do not act according to the norms of society. The attraction between Marie and Christian is instant and even though he is caught swimming naked, Marie is intrigued and he accommodates her curiosity. Once caught in a compromising position, things change but not the way they expected which causes the two of them to work together to change the outcome. I loved the story, the humor, and Marie’s free spirit and curiosity which tends to land her in trouble. This is a very entertaining read and I would highly recommend it. This author is one of a very few authors that I have never been disappointed in anything that I have read.

The first in a spin off series & what a delight it was, I loved how Christian & Marie met & how the sparks flew but then things don’t go to plan & everything conspires to separate them. I read this enthralling read in a sitting, I laughed, I cried & most of all I thoroughly enjoyed it & can’t wait for the other three O’Shea siblings stories

Instant attraction
Christian is a gorgeous carefree young man who has traveled all over Europe as a second son with no responsibilities!
Marie is one of the notorious O’Shea sisters and Fergus has declared it’s time for all of his sisters to marry!
Marie meeting Christian on a beach in the nude should have been an easy trip down the aisle as they were found together! But it was anything but!!
Christian father has other plans and by the time Fergus finds his way to confront Christian, his father and brother well it’s completely different outcome than I expected!
Christian and Marie can’t keep their hands off each since their first kiss! So a little thing like being engaged to other people certainly isn’t going to stop this rambunctious pair!
But when a plan to escape their betrothals horribly backfires and lives are lost! A HEA seems even more impossible!
Can Christian forgive himself? Does he need to? This story is nonstop and you would not expect anything less from this author or the O’Shea family!!

*review of audio edition*

This story completely enthralled me from start to finish. It's funny, sad, and heartfelt in all the best possible ways. Marie and Christian are meant for each other from the first scandalous moment they meet. It's the meet-cute to end all meet-cutes, and I can't tell you how much I appreciated the entire beach scene. I love how much both characters enjoy life, and how, when the inevitable rainclouds come, that they discover that storms can be weathered. As always, the conflict Merry Farmer writes is amazing. This book is a masterclass in how conflict should work in a romance novel. The setting is also lovingly described, and the historical details are impressive. The climax of the story is a perfectly thematic scene and the HEA is so sweet and so sweetly earned. The narrator does an amazing job, his voice is like honey and made me so excited to listen to the rest of the books in this series. Five very enthusiastic stars for this story and the audio version of it. Highly recommended for all romance readers.

I Kissed an Earl (and I Liked It)
Merry Farmer

As I noticed I had a story to read from Merry Farmer I had a feeling it would pertain to a family barely touched upon. The O’Shea sisters.

The small look showed us these are wild spirited girls. They do as they please. Fergus the Earl knows his hands will be full which is why he tells the girls they must move back to the castle, but gives them a gift that he knows will win them over. A bike for each! Marie names her bike and sets off!

I’m not going to say more but.... wow.
I certainly can’t wait to see the next one! Finished reading this book in 95 minutes. I enjoyed reading this book.

My disclaimer...
I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
Any book or novels I leave reviews on are not dependent on the book/novel review author’s opinion. No one influenced my voluntary review for any of the books or novels I read, they are my own opinions.

Oh this is such a fun book! Marie is one of the scandalous O’Shea sisters who happens to stumble across Christian while he is cooling off in the ocean....sans clothing. They flirt, have a battle of wills and a meeting of lips. Marie is caught in this compromising position causing her brother Fergus to marry her off. She is not happy about his choice of groom, neither is Christian who also finds himself betrothed. Things get messy. Christian and Marie continue to flirt, plot and plan....and then tragedy strikes. This author is a magician with words. Her dialogue is witty and reveals so much about her characters, while her portrayal of emotions can have you laughing out loud or reaching for a tissue. This story is well conceived, well written, instantly engaging and the perfect tee up for a new series. I can hardly wait to read the next one.

I Loved It! Merry Farmer has given readers a beginning of a series that promises one madcap romp after another. The Wicked O'Shea Family is well-written and very enjoyable with each and every character well developed, you feel every emotion that they are feeling throughout their story and each and everyone of them are head-strong individuals who become embedded in your heart. The O'Shea sisters will bring scandalous behavior, the meaning of what family love means and the strength to face overwhelming odds together. How Marie and Christian meet is hilarious and the laughter and high jinx keep coming! But the game of love is not smooth sailing for Marie and Christian as they soon find out and the consequences may find themselves facing dismal and unhappy future. From the moment you begin the journey with Marie and Christian you will be spellbound until the very end! I can't wait to read Colleen's story!

An Awesome Read!!!!

I loved reading I Kissed an Earl(I Liked It) (That Wicked O’Shea Family Book 1)!!! All about Lady Marie O’Shea is twenty-four lives with her three sisters in a cottage on the sea and they make delicious beer that they sell in the local pubs. Fergus O’Shea has recently returned from England with his wife to tend to his four sisters, who are all single and must be wed, per the town overseer Lady Cole. All are between thirty & ninteen and need to be married at once!!! Marie is out tooling around on her new bicycle when she falls off on the beach. She meets Christian Yarrow who is swimming naked in the sea & they play a prank on two women walking by. Read about this Incident and many other adventures Marie & Christian will have throughout this story!!! It’s quite a page turner and will have you laughing a crying through out the book. I loved reading it and can’t wait to read book 2!!!!

If you like sexy stories with spice along with hellion women and rake hell men, then Merry Farmer's latest I Kissed an Earl is the book for you. Ms. Farmer's writing is top-notch and I love the characters she creates. She certainly has a way with words and adds humor to her stories.

Marie is one of Fergus' four younger sisters. She is a hellion and looking for fun. She is a modern woman for her time. When she meets bad-boy Christian the sparks fly and all hell breaks loose. They are both on the same page when looking for fun, but when they are caught in a scandalous position everything goes wrong.

Marie and Christian certainly deserve their happily ever after. I really liked Marie's drive to get what she wants out of life. She is a girl who knows her own mind and I loved her for it. This is a really fun book to read and is highly recommended.
