The Vampires Will Save You

So... I didn't handle the zombie apocalypse well.
I used to be a third-grade teacher, but since the Gorging, my life has been...kinda rotten. I lost my group to the undead, became indebted to one of the gangs, and now I've been sold as a blood-slave.
My new owner is Atlan, one of the vampire warriors who guard Blue City's walls and defend us from the zombies. The vampires are like celebrities around here. It's my job to provide Atlan with a clean blood source and any other services he needs.
I keep telling myself I'm one of the lucky ones. But with the zombie hordes moaning on the other side of the wall, and the human-shaped monsters roaming Blue City, I'm not so sure anymore.

There’s something about this book that GRABBED me from the first page. Okay, a lot of somethings. Love the characters, broken and full of desire. Totally dig the worldbuilding—vampires and zombies with a really cool backstory. The romantic tension is DIVINE between Finley and Atlan.

Now, I’m not a horror reader. But this is more of what I’d call speculative fiction romance…paranormal romance with some horror thrown in. If you like paranormal romance but aren’t crazy about horror, there’s a very good chance you’ll love this. I’ll just warn you that you’ll be up late reading it.

Fascinating world building and excellent characterization!

I love a good dystopian novel and The Vampires Will Save You is an excellent example of the genre. The author paints the bleak future of the zombie apocalypse vividly so that you can see, smell, and almost touch it. Her characters are believable too. Finley is a scrappy heroine who has been through a lot and it’s easy to identify with her. Perhaps more surprising is the hero, Atlan. The author doesn’t write him as a typical brooding, arrogant vampire—he is all too human despite his supernatural strength and speed. I love that she gives him emotional depth—he has moments of weakness and self doubt and he’s not too perfect to believe. You come to care about these two and you want them to be together. A few reviews mentioned that the spice level is only around medium but if all you want is sex scenes, go read erotica. This book is about world and relationship building and characterization and I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended!

🤔🧐🤯MY THOUGHTS:🤯🧐🤔

So a zombie apocalypse happens and the human race turns to vampires to be their savior. I’m not exactly sure how, there is no explanation but apparently our government turns select humans into vampires to save humans. Vampires are undetectable to the zombie hordes. I do hope the author does more world building and explains how this comes about. Character building isn’t very bad but we need some backstory. This story is a trilogy and the first book went incredibly fast. I believe this series will be a quick entertaining read.

Our MFC, (Finley) quickly falls for our MMC (Altan), her Master, it works because the two definitely have chemistry. Altan actually falls for Finley first. He worries his heart won’t be enough for her. He knows that she longs for more from him. She wants him, but since becoming a vampire he’s been impotent. At least until she kisses him and utters those little words.

I binged it in a night, and now I'm annoyed that I don't have the rest of the series in paperback yet.

While I love post-apocalyptic type books, I usually get pretty annoyed about zombies. I was pleasantly surprised at how well Kenney handled some pretty over-used mosters (zombies and vampires). I'm invested in this world she's created with science run amok, and interested to see how more of it reveals itself in the upcoming books.

I also enjoyed the characters. Finley and Atlan are probably the least toxic couple I've read so far in any of the author's books. Don't get me wrong, the Peter Pan retelling is hot and fun, but not exactly relationship goals, haha.

Anyway, I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Seriously Addicting!

I started this last night before bed, stayed up way too late reading, and polished it off this morning. Loved every moment. Dark, gritty, tender, and sweet. The perfect contradiction.

Set in a apocalyptic world with zombies, humans can only survive with the help of vampires. Finley has managed to survive thus far, but she gets captured and sold as a blood slave. Now she's living in a military compound as a blood slave for Atlan, a vampire warrior.

First of all, I'm surprised that nobody is hyping up this series. The world building is fantastic, with a twist to the usual zombie apocalypse concept. The plot is very fast paced, addictive, and easy to read. The world building is also written in such a way that it's easy to immerse yourself into the story.

As for the main characters, I can't say I'm in love with them, but I'm definitely rooting for them. They did have their slight moments of immaturity, but overall, they're tolerable for main characters in a new adult series.

I did have some issues with Finley being attracted to Charon and Harry. That whole dynamic made me super uncomfortable and I really couldn't understand why she quickly felt desire for 3 people like that. It almost feels like this was done on purpose? It almost feels like she was drugged or something? I feel like there are unanswered questions here or maybe I'm just overthinking this. I also have questions about Charon's arc and the reason why Finley is the one who awakened Atlan.

I'm so excited to pick up the next book. This series is so bingeable!!!

Maybe I’m just a junkie, looking for my next adrenaline rush. Not enough shock value, even when the bad vampire got to her in her bed. I shouldn’t be just looking on with mild interest. Should be invested in her well-being. But it was more like, meh. Just do something interesting already.

Plus- the MMC is a bit immature- who makes such a show in killing the zombies and enjoys it like that- acting like a celebrity- catering to the spectators. It’s not cool when you’re killing all the bad guys with a huge advantage. If they can’t sense you, then really, you’re just slaughtering them viciously for fun. Isn’t there a more humane way to do it?

There were good parts- some hot scenes. I liked the FMC in the beginning but the story just kind of lost its edginess and became kind of - dare I say it- boring?

At this point, beyond caring what happens to her and the rest of the story. Gotta move on.

Although there were some dark things that happened here, for me, there was an overall sense of fun with this novel. I think the FMC's attitude has a lot to do with that, but I really loved this novel.

'Touching isn't all about sex, after all. It can also be about trust, and relief, and safety, and quiet sensation.'

This was such an unexpected pleasure! The premise of the story is, there's been a zombie apocalypse, and now vampires protect humans by fighting the zombies. In this world, the vampires used to be terminally ill humans who were saved/changed with a serum, and they need either human blood-hires or blood-slaves to keep them going. We find Finley being sold as a blood-slave at the start of the novel, and she gets bought on behalf of Altan, who is one of the best vampire soldiers in the fight against the zombies. Sparks fly, but Altan is adamant he can't be with her ...

First of all, I loved Finley's strong voice. The story captured me straight away, and it was only towards the end that I began to feel it was dragging a little. It seems as though a sequel is in the works, so I wonder whether it might have been better to end it a little sooner, perhaps on a cliffhanger? But that's my personal preference, and I'll definitely be picking up the next book in the series! Something I loved was how the story explores masculinity, because there's a real alpha-type vampire, while Altan struggles with low sex drive as a result of being turned into a vampire. A parallel is made between other medications, and it made me think of anti-depressant medications and their side-effects. I thought Altan's struggle with shame and low self-esteem was handled really well, and I loved how Finley's perceptions changed too, as she began to grow more understanding. Also, the nuanced discussion of grey-asexuality was unexpected and hugely appreciated!

Unique take on vampirism, zombies, and the apocalypse. The world building was excellent!

Finley is a strong, bad ass character, who struggles at times finding her place since the world fell apart. Her internal struggles with the way things were and the way things are make her that much more likable and we see her overcome so much in 400 pages. Atlan is the epitome of “looks like he could kill you, is a cinnamon roll” and I’m here for it. The way he cares for Finley’s well-being had me heart-eyed.

The Vampires Will Save You is a wonderful, slow-burn apocalyptic paranormal romance. The audiobook is *chefs kiss* the voices are perfection and may just make a person melt in all the best ways.

⭐️⭐️A nice quick read. Nothing overly special here. Just a fun vampire falling in love with a human story.

📖 One quote to convince you to read this book: "Honestly I'll settle for anything she deigns to give me at this point. Sometimes I feel like collapsing at her feet, just begging her for mercy, worshiping her—she has reduced me to a kind of puddle of a man, and I don't even care.”

It was a unique premise....until it wasn't.

It borrowers heavily off of world war Z the movie in that... SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE: being terminally ill was the "cure" and that's what the trial medication proceeded to do. Create this race of what seemed like partially dead who the zombies just ignore. JUST LIKE WWZ.

I had some hope at first with the interesting way it started at the slave auction. I was like oh my, will this have the world building of daughter of no worlds? Could it be? Nope. But hey, at least it wasn't a fated Mates story right?

Well....right. but there was so little effort put into making the relationship bloom, it might as well should have been. I love romance, and one of my biggest pet peeves are stories about fated mates. Not because they are always bad, but the author tends to more easily rely on the "fated bond" to carry the romance rather than the chemistry and interactions themselves. It's lazy writing to me. That's how this read. She's scared of him and he doesn't want Intimacy, but like literally a chapter later they are talking about how spechul snowflake the other is. Ick.

If you want a GOOD fated mates story with relationship development, my recommendation are the Supernatural Battle series by Kelly St. Clare. Start with the Vampire Towers trilogy.

Good book! A somewhat quick read, but this is book one of a trilogy. The rest of the trilogy is out, though Goodreads doesn’t link them all as a trilogy, so you’ll have to look up each title (Amazon does link the three books though).

This is an interesting world that takes place in the near future. Vampires were created about 50 years ago (relative to the time the book takes place) when some cancer treatment research went sideways—the test subjects were cured of cancer, but also developed fangs, a dependency on fresh blood, and they became stronger and faster with regenerative abilities. The first batch of vampires are the strongest. Subsequent attempts to refine the cancer cure resulted in weaker vamps. After years of tests, eventually the vamps were accepted into society.

Then a few years ago the zombie apocalypse hit. It swept the world overnight. The conversion to zombie upon being bitten is almost instant, so if someone near you is bitten, you barely have time to run before they turn and bite you.

Vampires are pretty much invisible to zombies though. They’re simply not interested in vamps. And with a vampire being stronger, faster, and immune to zombies, they make the best warriors to fight back.

Finley survived the zombie outbreak mostly through luck, then by teaming up with some other survivors. But after they all died, she ended up alone and eventually in debt to some syndicate that holds a good deal of power. They sold her as a slave—a practice not condoned by the military, but they also don’t outright fight against slavery. Thankfully she’s purchased by a military general who is tired of his best vamp soldier resisting feeding and taking his feedings from unreliable sources and often going too long between feedings. The general needs the vamp in fighting shape, so he picks up Finely. The blood hired (and her as a blood slave) are treated well at the base. They’re fed and clothed and generally free to go about their days. They just have to be on hand whenever their assigned vamp needs to feed. They’re even encouraged to take up jobs since feeding a vamp doesn’t take much time.

Finley is relieved she wasn’t sold to someone who would abuse her or to some sweat shop that would work her to death. After all she’s been through, she’s fairly okay with her new life, even if the slave term is a bit grating. Thankfully Atlan (her vamp) is a really nice guy who abhors the idea of blood slaves, so he tries to give her all the freedom he can. And, he’s one of the vampires who lost his sex drive and even the ability to get an erection as a result of the drugs that turned him into a vamp. … But yes, this is a romance, so not to worry, his attraction to Finley will eventually overcome that little hindrance. Some of the vamps aren’t quite as nice as Atlan, so there’s a few dicey scenes where other vamps get a bit too handsy when Atlan isn’t there.

I like that Finley is a very capable woman. She might have just been a third grade teacher before the zombie outbreak, but she’s able to find her way in his new world. When not feeding Atlan, she’s got other duties on the base and even takes some training right along with some newer soldiers. And she accompanies Atlan to the wall around the city when he’s dispatched there (though she stays safely inside the wall while he heads outside it to fight attacking hordes). He even takes her shopping in the city. So the “slave” term is pretty loose.

Atlan is a sweetheart. A hot, sword-wielding sweetheart. I love that he’s so strong and fierce, but he’s also just a normal guy at heart. At first he’s polite yet resistant to Finley being there, but as they get to know each other he begins to like her. There’s friendship, and then there’s more than friendship. He’s so protective and loving by the end.

There’s a whole lot of plot and adventure not mentioned here and that plot takes off immensely in book 2 as they journey together outside the wall on a mission. Most of what I stated above is just the initial world building mentioned in the first few chapters.

I wasn't expecting much out of this series, but at the same time I'd heard pretty good things about it. And wow. I'm actually pleasantly surprised. This is such a unique and cool world! The lore behind how the vampires came to be, and the zombies too is something like I've never seen before. Even the anatomy of how vampires' bodies operate was really great, even if the romance ends up not making a tonnnnn of sense because of it ()

I think the characters are where this knocks off a bit for me. While there's nothing wrong with any of them exactly, I didn't really get close to them either.

Finley is an interesting character, but I'm not a fan of how she's attracted to Charon and Harry early on. Even as she's repulsed by Charon. And it doesn't feel like the attraction is natural. It feels like she gets drugged or even compelled by the vampire. But it's never explained as anything other than her body wanting and needing sex. And the bed scene? It made me so fucking uncomfortable.

Finley's characterization as a whole was odd and inconsistent, she can be a total badass, but when it comes to protecting herself from assault, she whimpers and bends to Charon in ways that honestly felt out of character and that pissed me off.

Atlan is more palatable. And also a badass sexy vampire warrior. But also for being like 75 years old, he's still kinda immature. There were times the cringe made it difficult to keep reading.

I also would have liked the side characters to be way more than they were. Even Harry was little more than a prop for Finley to showcase her badassery. We have a "mean girl" who's ... not. We've got a tragic love story that's... not.

For all the cool aspects of the world-building, the author falls a bit short when it comes to building well-developed characters who have complex and multi-dimensional relationships with each other. But who knows, maybe that'll change in future books.

Regardless, this was a pretty fast read, and 100% held my interest, despite my complaints.

Did I binge this book in less than a day? …Yes, yes I did. Devoured and left no crumbs, can confirm.

I was introduced to Rebecca in December when I joined Booktok, and she has very quickly become one of my all time favorite authors. Every time I finish one of her books, I’m left stunned and smitten. I always convince myself that there’s no possible way I can enjoy another one of her stories as much as or more than the last one I finished, and time and again, she proves me so very wrong. I don’t know what she puts in these books that makes them so addictive, but every single one really hooks its claws into you from the first page, and I just keep coming back for more.

The Vampires Will Save You is definitely not your typical vampire novel in that, as the title states, in this one the vampires are humanity’s saviors and only hope for survival in a post apocalyptic world. A really fun and easy read, chock full of beautiful imagery, action, adventure and of course romance!

Atlan and Finley were E V E R Y T H I N G I didn’t even know I needed right now, and I couldn’t get enough of their banter. This is a low and slow burn, for certain, but the wait is well worth it! 🌶️ 🔥

And if you reach the end and, like me, shriek W H A T— you are in LUCK, because books two and three are already out! I know what I'll be doing the rest of the day. 🤓📖

If you follow my reviews, you'll know by now that I'd happily read Rebbeca Kenney's grocery list.
'The Vampires Will Save You' is no exception to the wonderfulness that is her writing. A different spin on a romance, this post-apocalyptic tale is gripping, gruesome and sweet.
Finley is surviving the zombie apocalypse as best she can when she's captured and sold as a blood slave to a vampire warrior. YEP. Vampires are real. Not like Edward Cullen and crew. These vampires were created as a side effect of a treatment for cancer. Someone tried to recreate the experiment and... Zombies. Isn't science great? The good news is that zombies can't detect vampires, so now they're our only hope.
Finley's master, Atlan, is quiet, grumpy and drop dead gorgeous. He also hasn't been able to get it up in decades.
I'll let you guess what happens next...

My only complaint is the ending... There had better be a sequel coming soon!!

I liked this because it had a hot vampire in it. Vampires were created 50 years earlier from a cancer cure gone wrong. They can eat regular food but have to have warm, straight from the vein blood. They can go out during the day. They are stronger and faster than humans. They heal more quickly too. For the past 2 years, there has been a zombie apocalypse. The h pissed off the wrong people, and was sold as a blood slave. She went to a military base to be a blood source for the warrior, Atlan. Vamps are awesome at killing zombies, because zombies can't detect them. They fall in love. It ends with them at some lab. They are there to rescue research scientists who have been working on a zombie cure. There's a weird smell and they want them to carry out a bunch of sealed crates.

this book was so easy to read, like my eyes were flying over the page. she writes in a way that is so mellow and lovely ☺️

the world building was easy to get on with and fun. her portrayal of vamps in this is interesting and different, bringing a focus away from the blood sucking lust (still a part but not to majorly) and less moody and animalistic, still keeping a lot of human traits

i did find the romance to be quite forced in the beginning and didn’t flow quite naturally. they’d declared the i love yous before they’ve ever kissed 🤔

it ended on a cliff hanger which was annoying but then i think the story will pick up with the next couple, which is cool with me x

What an interesting twist and new view on vampires. Post- apocalyptic vampires, zombies and humans. Fast paced and never a boring moment. Rebecca’s books are always really well written and easy to read. This is the first and a completed trilogy of pandemic monsters. Modern new take on vampires protecting what’s left of the human race against the deadly zombie disease. If you like post-apocalyptic romances with the vampire twist this is definitely for you! I have never read anything like it. It was an action packed adventure. A very entertaining read. Medium/light smut level 3/5🌶 3 1/2 stars ⭐️ out of 5.

Who will protect us from the zombies? The vampires will!! This was really different, a cure for cancer is discovered and given to a group of people and they’re completely cancer free…and also vampires! Then, they try another batch but something’s is different. The cancer is cured but they are weaker vampires. Then a zombie apocalypse breaks out and nobody knows how! But the zombies have no interest in the vampires and barely notice them, so the vampires become the protectors of humanity. Such a different post apocalyptic concept and very entertaining and action packed! Like most zombie stories there’s plenty of gore. I really enjoyed this and look forward to book two!!

Review:
I liked the concept of this book. It was different and very interesting. I never read a book about zombies and vampires.
The characters where oke but I didn't really connect all that well with them. Finley was kind of all over the place with her feelings. Going from not wanting to be touched in a sexual way etc to throwing herself at her 'master' and then be upset he doesn't want her, to saying atleast this guy thinks im attractive to I don't want said guy anywhere near me (rightfully so, the guy was a creep). I'm probably not explaining it well but it just threw me off a bit.
The story it self was oke but also could use some work. The flow of it was also a bit off.

Anyhow overall I did enjoy the book, and the ending left me curious enough to consider continuing.

What is this book about:
This book is about an apocalypse, the dead have rising and there are zombies everywhere. The only ones that have a change of fighting them are the vampires. Vampires where humans that got an experimental drug treatment to tread their terminal decease. (I don't recall if its all or some of them) Zombies have no interest in them, they only want 'living' humans.
Vampires however do need blood to survive and that' n s how Atlan and Finley met. Finley was purchased by the military to serve as Atlan's blood 'bag'. Something he doesn't want. Finley, although not very happy about the situation, accepts it because it's better than living on the streets and having other kinds of slavery hanging over her head. As Finley and Atlan grow closer they come to realise the zombies aren't the only threat out there.

What did I like/love:
I liked the concept of the book. I also like the world the story is set it, it was interesting.

What did I dislike/hate:

This series has an original take on the creation of vampires and their use during/after a zombie apocalypse in a now dystopian setting of the world. I liked both main characters even though there wasn't much to them. The romance wasn't that heavy, which created more room for the actual story and world building. I was excited to find out that the second book is a continuation of this story since it ended on such a suspenseful part in the bunker!

Audiobook: This was almost a DNF because I could barely stand the narrators, especially Smies. Ugh. Of course, the book ends without conclusion so you will want to go on to the second book. I may read the next one, just to find out what happens, but I refuse to listen to the audiobook with the same narrators.

3.5 Stars

An enjoyable read! I liked the main characters Finley and Atlan. They were a good match for each other. The story is a unique concept so definite points for that. I felt like something was missing for it to be a complete 4 stars but I can't put my finger on what. Maybe I will edit this review if it comes to me.

It was interesting take on vampires with this mmc in this one losing the desire for intimacy when he turned.

There were a few themes in this book which gave me some fallout vibes especially near the end. I don't trust scientist like fellows that come out from nowhere.
