Useful study guide for CompTIA Network+, but not as good as Mike Meyers' CompTIA Network+ Guide to Managing and Troubleshooting Networks.

Routing protocols
• RIP: IGP; distance vector; metric: hop count
• OSPF: IGP; link state; metric: cost (based on bandwidth)
• EIGRP: IGP; hybrid; metric: composite (bandwidth and delay by default)
• BGP: EGP; path vector; metric: path attributes

Common Types of Attacks
FTP bounce: attacker uses port command to access system that would otherwise deny them.

Salami attack: collection of small attacks that result in larger attack (e.g., small charges to stolen credit card numbers).

Data diddling: changing data before it's stored.

Ping of death: sending ICMP packets that are too big.

One type of ICMP attack sends ICMP traffic as series of fragments to overflow fragment reassembly buffers on target device.

Smurf attack can use ICMP traffic directed to subnet to flood target system with ping replies.

Network Hardening Techniques
If network has Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) use protections (Root Guard, Bridge Protocol Data Unit [BPDU] Guard, Flood Guard).

Port security: locking down switch ports to MAC addresses to guard against MAC flood attacks (doesn't protect against MAC spoofing attacks).

An excellent resource and study aid for anybody who is looking to take the CompTIA Network+ (N10-008) exam.

The book comes with access to the online learning environment, which should help anybody who is preparing for the exam. The online content includes multiple mock exams, online labs, video training, study planner, interactive study guide, glossary, and many other study aids.

Overall, I found this book to be good value for money and extremely helpful in preparing me for the Network+ exam. Highly recommended.
