This WWII short story follows a P38 Lightning pilot who is assigned to providing ground support rather than doing aerial combat. Without going into detail and spoiling a short story that I found it be very entertaining this is a very good story that follows the pilot’s growth in learning what was truly important. This is my second story by Chris Glatte and I can say without a doubt, it won’t be my last. If you enjoy WWII stories about the Pacific war, this is worth the time to read.

Another Good Read by This Author

I've read several by this author and thoroughly enjoyed each one. It is dramatic easy to follow air combat in the southwest Pacific with a good nod to the ground pounders. I highly recommend this and his other works. I'm going to start another in a few minutes.

Chris Glatte does it agin!

Coming of age, for a young, hotshot P-38 pilot. He learns the cost of doing business, and going for that which is most important, rather than what is the glory that some men seek. A well worth read!

For anyone reading wwii books about flying will enjoy this book. It shows what pilots go through and what greatful troops on the ground go through.

Glory Flying

A young flier learns a lesson, sometimes the most important job is just scrubbing the pots and pans, not cooking the steaks.

Too short

One pilot learns a lesson and the story is over. Well written but could have been a novel. No wife or girlfriend. No background on the pilot.

Good tale of the big 38’s

A fine tale the BIG P38’s in their unsung ground support role. This is has a small amount of ajr to air combat.
