A Fashion Icon 👜

Legendary fashion designer Coco Chanel is revered for her sophisticated style—the iconic little black dress and famed for her intoxicating perfume Chanel No. 5. Yet behind the public persona is a complicated woman of intrigue, shadowed by mysterious rumors.

It is well known that Coco started out with nothing, designing her hat collections 👒, and then during the rough war years, she managed to turn women’s perception of fashion and lifestyle of the 20th century upside down. In addition, she continued to do so for the rest of her life with her designs, interviews and most important by living what she preached.

She showed women all around the globe that they can be independent, strong and fashionable at the same time.  Back in the 1920, women dressed conservatively and were thought of as inferior to men. Coco Chanel took her wild ideas of style, strength and empowerment and incorporated those in her designs and words.

These are few of my favourite quotes of her

“Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door.”

“If you’re sad, add more lipstick and attack.”

“ These Princesses & Duchesses - they never pay bills. Why should I give them something for nothing? No one ever gave me anything.”

“The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.”

“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”

“I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little—if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.”

I would definitely recommend reading this book. By reading this book you will know things about Coco Chanel that you never new before. Like how her father left her at an orphanage after her mother died at the age of 11. How she was born with the name Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel and got the nickname "Coco" when she began singing in cabaret clubs at the age of 18. How the iconic colors of black and white in her dresses were greatly influenced by the Catholic nuns in the orphanage she grew up in... The same nuns who taught Chanel to embroider, iron, and sew.

Did you know that Chanel started in the world of fashion by making hats? This book is Chanel's jounery from hats to that iconic little black dress and more.

If you want to read quotes from Chanel herself and the people who know her... Then you must definitely read this book.

"I consider my success as a proof of love. By loving what I was doing, I was loved in return by my creations."

"I decided who I wanted to be and that is who I am."

Recomendo principalmente que toda mulher que quer se tornar independente e se reinventar leia para poder se abastecer de boas ideias e autoconfiança, coisa que a Coco tinha para dar e vender. Maravilhosa, poderosa, chique demais! Realmente inspiradora. ✨

A complete whitewash. Ignores Chanel's role as a Nazi spy during World War II and the fact that she fled to Switzerland to avoid prosecution.
