Sydney Whitmore, a forensic psychologist, moves to Shipwreck Island and renews her relationship with Ezra Reinhold, a reclusive billionaire who enjoys poking around in cold cases and has the means to hire the best people to find the answers no one else has been able to.
In book 4 in the series, Syd has settled into her new home at the resort just in time for a good old fashion Thanksgiving but before she can leave the stress of her old life behind she must first complete one final interview relating to Conrad Baker, the serial killer whose actions sent her running to Shipwreck Island in the first place.
Kathi lives with her husband, kids, grandkids, and dogs in beautiful Lake Tahoe. When she isn't writing, Kathi likes to read (preferably at the beach or by the fire), cook (preferably something with chocolate or cheese,) and garden (planting and planning not weeding). She also enjoys spending time on the water when she's not hiking, biking, or snowshoeing, the miles of desolate trails surrounding her home. Kathi uses the mountain setting in which she lives, along with the animals (wild and domestic) that share her home, as inspiration for her cozy mysteries.

I love visiting Shipwreck Island and Ms. Daley's latest cozy mystery set in Castaway Bay was perfect entertainment for an afternoon. Mystery, friendship and Sydney finally has some resolution to the serial killer case that's been haunting her. Ms. Daley's descriptive writing has made Castaway Bay and the characters relatable and likable that I look forward to spending time with them.
Syd is being haunted by the memories of the day her partner was killed. She makes a new friend on the island that is overcome with her own memories. At work she's trying to prove that the serial killer that kidnapped her had a partner. Between her FBI work and helping the local police she and her friends are working to make a better and safer world.
Now and Then is the fourth book in Kathi Daley’s Resort at Castaway Bay series. The West Coast setting is charming, and the well-developed characters are three-dimensional, compassionate, and caring. The intriguing mystery is well plotted and complex, with no shortage of twists and red herrings to keep the reader engaged and guessing. Ms. Daley’s descriptive writing makes readers feel like they are right in the midst of the activities and sharing the characters’ tragedies and joys. Christy Turner provides a lifestyle blog with an easy to create and rewarding Thanksgiving Tree project, along with two tempting recipes. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys reading well-crafted cozies.
After suffering the consequences of an error in judgment in her job as an FBI forensic psychologist, Sydney Whitmore came home to Shipwreck Island for an extended vacation. After spending several months on the island with her family, Sydney decided to move home permanently. Aunt Charlie raised Sydney and her sisters, Emily and Rory, when their parents were killed in an automobile accident. Emily, her two young daughters, and Rory live at Jack’s Hideaway with Aunt Charley and Charley’s father-in-law, Hank Hamilton. Besides helping at the resort, Emily is writing a lifestyle blog as well as trying to help her mother-in-law, Beverly, who recently suffered a stroke. Rory’s a veterinary technician who often brings animals in need of extra attention home with her. Logan Alexander, who grew up at the resort, has decided to return to the island to care for his ill father, Liam, and take over Henry Collins’ medical practice.
Sydney is still feeling repercussions from errors made during the investigation and subsequent arrest of a suspected serial killer, Conrad Baker. Sydney also helps Shipwreck Island’s sheriff, Sam Stone, investigate a death that occurred during a target practice get-together.
Sydney (Syd) Whitmore is a forensic psychologist with the FBI who has moved back to Shipwreck Island to be near her family. In this book, Syd winds up taking a second look at a case involving serial killer, Conrad Baker, when a realization comes to her after an interview goes awry.
Kathi Daley is one of my favorite cozy mystery authors and I love her books. This is an excellent series and this book is a prime example of why. The engaging story was well-written with wonderful characters and it drew me in from start to finish. The mystery is intriguing and will keep you on your toes. I'm looking forward to the next book and returning to Shipwreck Island. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order for the most enjoyment and benefit.
Back on Shipwreck Island, spin off from Inn at Holiday Bay series by the same author.
Syd, forensic psychologist now lives in the Island at her families resort and takes jobs with the FBI as and when they need her. This book centres around her deposition for the person who killed 14 women, including her partner and who kidnapped Syd. However, things don't go as planned, will this be the end of it???
She also helps the local police force out and this time she's helping the Sheriff find out who killed a man on a target shooting range.
I really enjoy these cozy mystery books by Kathi Daley, if you like this book, check out her other series, they're equally as good. These books are best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
Sydney and her sisters are reunited on Shipwreck Island but her job as a criminal profiler, FBI analyst, is not finished. Even though she is allowed a bit more freedom in the cases she takes on, one major case from her past has not yet released her.
This is a book about good and evil, how it can be difficult to tell the difference. It is about friendship and loyalty and family.
Kathi Daley writes worlds we love to escape into. Sometimes dangerous, always intriguing, often unexpected. Each book is like a visit to old friends. I love to watch the growth of her characters. Always satisfying and make me want to get to the next one soon.
Now and Then is the fourth book in the Resort at Castaway Bay series and I am loving this series more with each new book. Sydney Whitmore, the main character is a forensic psychologist who works with the FBI. After a very traumatic event, she has come home to the island she grew up on to get some perspective and heal emotionally. She finds herself not only still involved with cases for the FBI while on the island, but is also asked to help the local law enforcement and an old acquaintance, Ezra Reinhold, a billionaire recluse. who has a team that tries to solve difficult cold cases. Filled with mystery, family, friendships and a bit of romance, this book, and this whole series is a must read for anyone who loves good cozy mystery. Highly recommended.
Syd is an FBI agent who has become more of a part-time, on-call agent. She now lives back in her hometown near her family and friends. She also has support of other crime-solving friends.. This story has her trying to prove that the serial killer she was chasing when her friend-partner was killed really did kill the 13 women and acted alone. But something has come up that makes her think there may have been an accomplice or protégé. The only reason I did not give this book 5 stars is because I felt there were several unanswered questions leading to another book, and I am not a fan of cliffhangers.
I was look forward to Kathy Daley’s books. This series is no exception. You have at least one mystery in each novel, family time, small town time, and a lot of fun. The books are engaging and pleasurable to read. As soon as I finish one, I’ll begin to look forward to the next one in any of her series.
I don't read thrillers because they scare the begebbers out of me. While this book wasn't a thriller exactly and I did enjoy most of it, I prefer your good old fashioned murder mystery. And I'm not even sure that this case is over. And I don't have the next book in the series. Yikes! So I'm going to finish my Alice Duncan mystery and relax. lol.
Syd is put on the sidelines after she messes up during the deposition. She can't let it go. She enlists Gen and Kelly to help her find out where his lair was. It is hard to think like a serial killer thinks. But she is going to do everything she can to close the case and bring some closer to her and the families of his victims.
We are wrapping up the Gemini killer story (maybe?). Logan is back - for good. Beverly still in the hospital and very s-l-o-w-l-y recovering a bit. Riley and Val and Jilly off to a robotics convention. We meet Doris, who might take on the dog Sierra. More in the next story.
I love this series by Kathi Daley and if you love cozies with characters you will love and a story that keeps you turning the page then this series is a must read. I can't wait for the next one.
These books keep getting better and better! This book has several storylines that all mesh together beautifully. The timelines are realistic and the plots are very interesting. Looking forward to the next one!
This was such a great mystery, I have been reading this series from the beginning , each book has not disappointed me , I enjoyed it so much I didn't want to stop reading.highly recommend this book and the other ones in this series too.
The books in this series keep getting better and better. Love the characters and how they have been developed. Looking forward to the next book in this series!
Can’t wait for number 5. Well written stories. A lot of action with the family and friends. Like the positive attitudes. Emily’s thanksgiving tree is a neat idea for families to pass on.
The characters are intelligent, the story line engrossing and the plot believable. I look forward to the next in the series. Kathie Daley is a favorite author
