Hei Xiao, who was a famous assassin, could never have imagined that one day, he would be shot in the head. This was retribution.
But he didn’t die.
When he opened his eyes, two men and a woman were gathered around the bed and kindly told him that he had ‘amnesia’: “You are our good, beloved coworker.”
Hei Xiao asked, “What’s our job?”
They replied, “The police~”
Hei Xiao was speechless.
Looking at the strangely pale and thin face in the mirror in front of him, Hei Xiao wished he could die again: God, although I’ve sinned a lot, you don’t have to play me like this!
The Special Case Files of Rebirth is a delightful read that defies expectations. Despite being tagged as mystery and suspense, the story is far from heavy or serious. In fact, it's the epitome of chill. The comedic tone shines through the conversations between the characters, leaving me grinning, smiling, and even bursting into laughter.
Now, let's talk romance. It's not exactly deep, and I couldn't bring myself to take the plot seriously. At first, I was completely clueless about who would be the top and bottom, and I even got the main lead wrong! Sure, there were some plot holes here and there, and the character development wasn't always consistent, but just brush those aside and enjoy the ride.
One thing I absolutely loved about the book was its unique writing style. It reads like a fast-paced movie script, effortlessly jumping from one scene to another. It felt like I was watching a movie unfold in my mind. The mystery aspect of the plot doesn't invite readers to play detective since some details are purposely obscured and only revealed later on. However, the unexpected plot twists managed to catch me off guard. And believe it or not, there were even some extras squeezed in the middle of the novel! Talk about surprises.
Also, I found myself jotting down numerous lines from the book because they resonated with me in real life. The author even throws in some romantic advice for her readers, which was a lovely touch.
All in all, The Special Case Files of Rebirth may not be a mind-blowing masterpiece, but it definitely hit the spot for me. Don't take it too seriously—just sit back, relax, and enjoy a good laugh. It's the perfect entertaining read, especially after reading an angst-filled novel.
I enjoyed reading this. I had fun trying to put together the clues and guessing who the culprits were. I enjoyed the many tsundere characters that kept things lighthearted. This isn’t something I would normally read and I read it as part of a group read with friends and was pleasantly surprised.
