Objection

Rate this book
Working for one of the most influential law firms in Chicago came with more perks than the average paralegal job. Posey Adams' immaculate professional life was a far cry from her personal one--a chaotic mess, with a controlling, jealous boyfriend. When the firm announces a new partner, it sets into motion a series of events that have her questioning everything about her tenuously balanced life.

Soren Wellington had put in the time and had jumped every hurdle to become successful at his job and a prime candidate for the partnership. So, when he's passed over for an older member with half his success rate, and a fraction of his experience, something within him snaps. Tired of waiting for an opportunity that would never come, he decides to take matters into his own hands. His first move would be to hire his old firm’s star paralegal out from under them—the fiery redhead, Posey Adams.

Turning down the job offer from Mr. Wellington would be foolish. Ignoring the protests of her jealous boyfriend, Posey accepts the offer. She soon finds that Soren was demanding, but fair, with his courtroom persona bleeding over into his work life.

Soren was no stranger to powerful men needing to dominate--he was one, himself. But when he discovers his new employee has been hurt by someone she trusts, he rushes to her aid. It was just a sound business investment to offer her room and board in his home, he told himself— asset protection.

As their close quarters challenge their resolve to keep things professional, will they be able to resist the building urges and desires, or will Soren finally show Posey what it's like to answer to a truly dominant man?

I can't put my finger on it...

2.5 Stars

There was something about this book that failed to really engage my emotions. Something that kept this from being phenomenal. It just seemed like a detached and clinical retelling of a story. I don't know what made me not really feel the depth of or believe Soren and Posey's feelings for each other and emotions but it did. I read this but I didn't feel anything about it, one way or another. It didn't move me.

Soren is a driven and hard working lawyer, who quits after being overlooked for a promotion. He opens his own firm but poaches the best paralegal from his old firm, Posey. They are both hard working and focused so they work well together. Though Posey's sassy comments and tight pencil skirts have Soren, who is a Dom, chomping at the bit to spank the sass right out of her.

When Posey's crappy boyfriend, who didn't approved of her going to work with a man, loses it and beats Posey up and destroys her house, Soren offers to let her stay with him to keep her safe. Being forced together causes their attraction and desires to escalate. Eventually leading Soren to offer Posey a contract to be his submissive.

Of course things don't always go as planned. Traumatic pasts stop forward progress, enemies still lurk in the shadows waiting to pounce, and communication issues lead to trust issues that might stop this relationship before it can get off the ground.

I enjoyed the characters okay. Posey was very pushy and bratty, outside of scenes. Soren was a Dom without being very Alpha in my opinion. Like I said it felt more clinical and about control than any passion. I don't know there was just a weird disconnect for me with this one. Take from that what you will. Hopefully I'm the minority opinion.

Even though this is an ARC review, I will always shoot you straight. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Perfection! Honestly. The best, most realistic-while-still-being-something-to-long-for happily ever after that I’ve ever read. This book is like a guide to BDSM, a story of surviving trauma and a down home fairy tale all in one. I legitimately could not put it down. Every single character leapt off the page at me. Sandra is a riot and I just want to make her real and tell her she has to be my best friend. David and the telling of his abuse is terrifying and brought up some real flashbacks for me, but even I felt safe knowing that Soren was there, ready to step in and keep us safe (even if he was a bit dense at times)! Sam is like the best friend everyone needs and Posey. Posey is everything good and beautiful and brave and strong in the world. 💜💜💜

Maturity level: explicit BDSM as well as violent scenes that leave the participants traumatized. This book comes with a trigger warning.

Posey gets hired as a paralegal by the young attorney Soren Wellington who is setting up his own office. Her boyfriend gets into a jealous rage and Posey has to live with Soren for a while to keep safe. Soren was unlucky in love when he was young and now he is committed to avoiding relationships and survives on clinical dom/sub encounters. He entices Posey into a BDSM contract with him. Samantha, a former submissive of his is trying to convince him that he's falling in love with Posey but will he ever be open to emotions? They're both rather isolated socially, as apart from each other they interact with a very small circle of people. Too small to be a circle, really.

This is a well plotted story with a dual first person point of view. The writing flows well for the most part but getting into Soren's head sometimes rubbed me the wrong way a lot as he may come across more pissy and controlling than a hot dominant alpha and frequently interpreted Posey having opinions as a bratty attitude. I had a little hard time seeing how yelling at someone that you will break them is helping them deal with the trauma of domestic violence but I guess everyone copes their own way. I was glad that they opted for going to actual therapy in the end. I read a review copy that needed a final round of editing. The most distracting thing was how several character names changed in the middle of the story.

I hate not finishing a book. I hate not finishing anything I start. I couldn't finish this one. And that pains me to say it.

I debated on leaving a review, but it has so many glowing ones that I felt suckered in by no dissenting opinions.

Based on the summary, I was fully prepared to love this. Office romance with a heroine fleeing an abusive relationship? Sign me up!

Instead, I got stilted dialogue, frustrating characters, and even though the abuse scene happens, it's completely out of left field and wasn't believable at all. Followed by me rolling my eyes when she immediately moves in with her boss - even though she and her boyfriend don't live together and she owns her own house. I'm sorry, what?? I could understand if they cohabitated and his name is on the mortgage, but this was ridiculous.

This was not a love story. This was a precursor to a love story, I assume. 30% in and the "hero" is still escorting his submissives into his house (where the heroine works and now lives) to run a scene during his lunch. When he finished one and immediately called another one, hoping the h wouldn't catch on before she returned, I was done. I thought about putting it down for the night and then realized I don't want to pick this back up in the morning.

It left me with a sour stomach. I read romance to read the buildup between the main couple - not spend a third of the book or more waiting for him to finish banging his list of girlfriends (and it is a list - he has contracts with them and everything) before making a move.

Is the book hot? Judging by the amount of 5 star reviews, I would assume so. But I never witnessed it.

Between the repugnant leading man, the bratty heroine, and them calling each other "Ms. Adams" and "Mr. Wellington" in every single sentence of every freaking dialogue exchange in the entire first 1/3 of the book, I finally had to ask myself why I was wasting my time? I didn't have a good answer, aside from being an optimist and always hoping a book gets better. Maybe this one would have, but it was too little, too late at this point. Even if I'd liked the last part, it wouldn't be enough to redeem it.

This book…. GAH!!! So hot! The tension, the build up, and then the SPICE! If you’re not into reading spicy BDSM relationships then this isn’t the book for you. The characters relationship outside of their play room is just as hot, and you get a sense of who they are as individuals rather than just straight up smut (not that I wouldn’t read this again if it were only the naughty parts- I totally would they were so good!)

'Objection' by Elle Sparrow is a well written and well developed story with likable characters and an interesting plot which tells the story of Posey Adams and Soren Wellington. Posey and Soren worked together at the same law firm and when Soren was passed over once again for partnership he decided to start his own law firm. Posey was the best paralegal at his former law firm so he offered her a job. Posey jumped at the chance even though her boyfriend, David, was not happy.

David attacked Posey when he found out she took the job with Soren. Posey got out of the house and went to her friends and spent the night. The next day when she went home and saw what David had done to her house and her belongings, she went to work in a state of shock. Soren could tell something was off with Posey. He finally got her to talk and went to her house to assess the damage. He was horrified and offered Posey a place to stay so she would be safe. However, living and working together brought another layer to their relationship and their attraction was harder to to subdue.

Ms. Sparrow has written a dynamic and engaging story. The story is emotional, with some angst, laughs, secrets, trust issues, passion, and plenty of steam. I enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who likes some drama with their romance.

Posey works as a paralegal in a lawfirm that doesn't really acknowledge hard work. When Soren quits and starts his own legal firm, he asks her to come with him. But there are so many things that can go wrong with this move, but even more ways it can go right.

WOW. I loved this book more than I expected! The author always writes incredible well, and this book is no exception. The story was really well done, grabbing our attention from the start and didn't let go until the last sentence. Posey and Soren are great characters who not only compliment each other, but push each other really well.

This is darker than the author's previous works, so be warned it does have darker themes in it, but it so worth the read!

Where to even begin in writing this review! My brain is still scrambled from the details and fire this book brings to my kindle. This book has all the makings for a hot night with your kindle and your best battery operated toy. The book provides a slow burn with enemies to lovers with lots of adult kinks thrown into the pages. Elle is a wonderful author and weaves a story that keeps you flipping the pages. Soren and Posey are my new favorite book couple that I hope to read more of! I highly recommend this book! You get background knowledge and character development that is amazing.

This book had me at the edge of my seat the ENTIRE time I was reading it! It was so good! Yes, there are some trigger warnings that are needed to be known about before you read it, but it was honestly as a whole such an amazing story! The characters growing together to figure out what it is that they want, to the work banter... it was just an awesome read!!

This book was absolutely amazing. It is a dual point of view book. We get to Posey and Soren who are a paralegal and lawyer just starting up their own firm. They become more than just coworkers when they end up living together. Posey has a mind of her own and isn’t afraid to speak her mind everywhere but in the bedroom. This book has BDSM and a lot of trust building.

I heard about Objection through a FB group for romance readers. It was portrayed as a grumpy boss, kink-positive book so I felt fully compelled to read it because those tropes are my freaking jam. What I didn't expect was a full-throated conversation about consent, the importance of safe words, and trauma associated both with an abusive relationship and grief from an unexpected loss. Though they were absolutely unexpected, they were beautiful elements of this story, adding depth to the plot and the relationship. Soren and Posey slowly develop their relationship from attorney-paralegal to sir-little one to unsteady romance to a life of love and it's incredible to watch. There's NO third-act breakup (hail Hecate for that); the tumult driving the third act feels real and the ultimate resolutions feel earned because of it. Elle Sparrow's linguistic style is super unique, particularly in their conversational flow. You don't really hear people talk like that in day-to-day life, which can be a bit offputting, but it gives it an almost fairy tale feel BECAUSE people don't talk like that in real life. Enjoyed this one for sure!

Your sitting at work and you hear a commotion you look up and see what it is and you want nothing to do with it. Poor Posey that is right were she finds herself She thought she was in a good place at work . Little did she know her world was about to be turned upside down

Soren gets passes over for a promotional his law office. So what does he do? He opens his own firm. And who does he have his eye on to work with him, Posey. But her boyfriend is not going to have it.

But poor Posey doesn’t realize she is about to take the ride of her life. She doesn’t realize Soren is a dominant. Will she become his submission ? Soren is the good guy with the bad streak all us good girls dream of. We don't really want a bad guy, we just want one that carries himself that way... The borderline arrogant confidence, that commanding nature, the steady/sure way he answers and reacts, the desire to please get and be pleased, and the protective qualities of a Rottweiler. He was pure perfection. I'm accepting applications for my very own Soren now.

And Posey, GIRL!!! Way to hold your ground! I love the way she teaches so much about what it means to be a sub just by being a character on a page. I appreciate her eagerness to learn and explore what she wants/needs and her bravery to try something new. I long to be her! To embrace her body and her strength and resilience... Do your thing!

I liked the writing and the dual/overlapping personalities. Each page left me chasing the next one to see what was going to happen. I loved the adventure and can't wait to read more by the author!

What an emotional journey this book was! Soren and Posey are just plain fire together! The chemistry between the two is explosive and sensual. Posey is sweet, sassy, and smart. Soren is dominant, broody, and protective. Their journey is both heartbreaking and emotional but also amazing.

Soren is passed over for a promotion that should have been his. He decides to set out on his own and start his own legal firm. Posey worked at his previous firm and he knows she will be perfect for his paralegal. But Posey’s boyfriend isn’t happy with her for working for Soren. When Soren finds out that Posey’s boyfriend abused her he does everything he can to protect her.

I loved this book so much! Elle’s writing makes you feel like you are right there in the story with these characters. She brings out emotions from you that you aren’t expecting. I can’t wait to read more by this author!

I like that in this book we get to see both POVS I always feel that it strengthens the story to have it told by both sides. Soren is a lawyer who just started his own practice after he was passed over at his last firm. Posey is a paralegal who he took with him to start his practice. Soren steps in to help when he learns that Posey is in a violent situation with her boyfriend. He offers her a place to stay at his house. Will things stay professional with them living together? I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this book to see what happens.

I almost DNF this book. It was just... meh. It had all the makings for a good story, but the plot and character development just felt one dimensional. It almost felt like I was reading a super detailed synopsis of a book rather than a book itself.

Spice was fine, but because I didn't feel any depth in their relationship, it just didn't do it for me.

I gave 2 stars because the potential was there, and I didn't hate it. If there had been more relationship building and better plot flow, this would have been a fantastic read.

Cathartic

This book takes you through it all. The legalities of a BDSM relationship, real life trauma, passion that has you begging for relief. Elle Sparrow consistently brings the story to life with her words and she doesn't stop there. She brings you, the reader, to your knees with need, sorrow, and love. I am an avid fan of Elle's but this book surprised even me as I devoured it in a matter of 6 hours.

Waiting impatiently to see what comes next in Elle Sparrow's catalog.

This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I can certainly say that I liked both characters. Both were strong in their own right. Soren works with Posey and is an experienced Dom. Posey, on the other hand is new to BDSM and the lifestyle. My only complaint was that the storyline was almost secondary and nonexistent compared to the kinky scenes. While it did have a ton of steam, I just wanted more story and less BDSM scenes.

MmC spent 1/3rd of the book with his 4 submissives at the beginning. He would call them for a scene when FMC was away, sometimes back to back.
He relied on his main sub of 3+ years to talk him through his feelings for FMC.

I didn't feel any chemistry between the MCs. I felt like she was just another sub. He even used the same nicknames.
He was constantly comparing FMC to his other subs and how he was with them.
It seemed unrealistic that he took her to "Subspace" during the first session.

I like the book it was very different Dom and Sub story but it was very engaging I loved the banter between them, I liked Siren and Posey Soren being a very formal man ,he learned to let go with Posey and be more playful, I loved the unexpected twist in the story but it ends well.
