❧ poetry review

When the waters of the morning
are still silent and so calm,
and the newness of day dawning
seems to shelter me from harm.

Some very cool poetry in this collection! Lawson has a clear, rhythmic, eloquent style and I enjoyed these poems greatly! Can't wait to read more of their work!

It is your truth so you must tell it
It is your choice which words to use
The world is seen through your eyes
Just as it is through mine
Don’t confuse the two
they are different
no less true

As with My Father’s Daughter, Lily Lawson again brings us a selection of accessible and relatable poems. Through them all, Lily’s realistic, but positive world view shines, in a mix of serious and fun poems. I loved ‘No Tears’ with its succinct summary of a relationship which holds its own without the expected trappings, and then we go straight into Goodbye – a little heart breaking moment and great juxtaposition.
The clever circular nature of Book is Open is pure entertainment while the very real relevance of Modern World makes us think – especially given the poem was written pre-pandemic. And then there’s the tender poignancy of Give Me a World. Yes indeed, please!
Lily Lawson’s poems are timeless in their relevance to people and the world we live and love in. A Taste of What’s to Come? A taste of meaning here and now. Thank you Lily Lawson.

I enjoyed immersing myself in Lily's words and their vivid imagery. This is a collection of wonderful moments captured in words. One of my favourites was the clever structure of Book Is Open, which gave depth to and cleverly led from one theme to the next. It was a delight to read. I also enjoyed how the layout of some poems added to their meaning, and kept me hanging on each word, especially in Truth.

An eclectic collection of poetry from the clever word play “Book is Open” to her emotive “When” each piece tells its story in only the way Lily can. Beautiful, this collection and all her others as well.

Short but sweet. A lovely selection of relatable poems. The Modern World, Time, and When all resonated with me. I enjoyed reading all of Lily’s poems and wished she’d written more.

Poetry that touches and makes you ponder

This is another winning poetry book by Lawson. I love her poetry because it speaks to the heart. Wine was never mine, not as Lily writes it. We are all different, yet we ll want certain things. I loved Goodbye, as oftentimes, we must say Goodbye to another person for one reason or another. A toxic relationship is not a relationship no matter how badly the other party wants you to stay. Then we have Easter, and the poem is true. I laughed to myself when I realized this poem, and the timing of Easter is off by one day thanks to leap year. The Sunday after spring begins is Palm Sunday this year. There are many poems contained in this book, but my favorite is a world without hunger, illness, racial differences, shelterless, and the list never ends. But what a world that would be. In Heaven it shall be.

A delightful melody of eclectic poetry.

Lilly Lawson has written a delightful eclectic mix of poems, and as with all poetry, you must read between the lines to truly understand the meaning, and Lily Lawson's work is no exception. They are beautifully written, and they draw you in as all good poetry should. I particularly liked 'Give me a World' which is so pertinent to today, that you find yourself saying '...if only...' Several of these poems really resonated with me, especially 'No Tears' They are all so relatable.
I loved this book of poetry, and I am looking forward to reading 'My Father's Daughter'
I would highly recommend it.
