An actual waste of my time. Full of unnecessary misunderstandings. If you hate the miscommunication trope dont read this. I skipped to chapter 100 AND NOTHING THESE FUCKING MORONS HAVE MADE NO PROGRESS. There is 169 chapters plus epilogues and by the looks of it they’ll get together in episode 169 or some shit.

I have sworn to read every single word written by 伊依以翼 because this author's writing is the only thing that makes me feel fully alive.
Even if there are some aspects which I'm not the biggest fan of, this author's books buy me over each and every time...

This one is the good old rebirth story. We meet the protagonist Mu Zhiming when he ends his own life after a series of tragic events. After his death he goes back a few years in time, thus getting a chance to fix everything that went wrong. As you'd expect, Mu Zhiming is not the only one to be reborn - there are two more time travellers.

One of them is the love interest, Gu Heyan, who is probably the most annoying love interest ever lol. He has two very obnoxious character traits:

1. Despite getting a second chance to fix his life and the life of his loved ones, and also knowing perfectly well what terrible things are going to happen to him, ML does NOTHING to prevent any of the tragic events. Especially in comparison with MC, who's doing his best to do SOMETHING.
MC, knowing that his parents are gonna die, sends them away from the capital city so they wouldn't be touched be struggling court powers.
ML, knowing that his father is gonna die at the battlefield, does nothing to prevent him from going to war and just sits there waiting for a death notice.
As a result, MC's parents live, ML's father dies.
Also, ML, knowing his own death circumstances, once again, does nothing to survive and, surrendered to his fate, waits for his own death.

2. ML's only hobby is thinking about how miserable he is. Convinced that the protagonist is in love with someone else, ML spends his days in self-pity dreaming about the protagonist.
But, for how much ML thinks about MC, he knows surprisingly little about him. ML sort of assumes that MC leads a happy concern-free life, while in reality the protagonist spends the whole book going crazy trying to survive and save his loved ones. ML somehow stays oblivious to this for a great chunk of a book.

To sum up, the love interest as a character is pretty uneventful. He has no goals or motivation and he doesn't do much.

The biggest question I have is: did the author know that they were writing such a character? Was it all carefully planned and done on purpose? Or did the author sincerely thought that all those obnoxious aspects of ML would make him cute and lovable?...

As much as I'd like to think it's the former, more likely it's the latter.

The third and the last reborn individual is Fu Yi, one of the princes of the current dynasty, MC's childhood friend. From the beginning he's set up as an antagonist. He's also the most interesting character in the story. He has clear motivation and takes actual steps to achieve his goals. I really felt for him... Honestly, he's fit for the role of the protagonist more than either MC or ML are lol. I wish there would be a spin-off novel all about him.

Misunderstandings is basically what 伊依以翼's novels are based on. From HTSAV to OATWAITP to this one, the misunderstandings have been getting progressively unbelievable and the love interests have been getting progressively shyer. The two aforementioned books actually made a lot of sence in this aspect - the misunderstandings trope was based on the character/plot set-up and felt quite natural. In this novel - not so much (probably because ML as a character doesn't make much sense).

It is astonishing though how many misunderstandings scenarios can one person come up with hahaha. We get something new with every new book.

The other thing that the author's novels have in common is the fluff. In this particular book, MC and ML establish the relationship around 60% in, so the later part of the book has a lot of heartwarming fluffy moments. I also liked that the protagonist's parents were present throughout the story (which is unusual for the genre, since most protagonists' parents are dead or something), and the interactions between the parents, MC and ML were really cute.

Overall, the author's writing just presses the right buttons in my soul, so it always works for me even if it lacks in some aspects. Their books are so addictive and it's just impossible to stop reading. If I had to recommend a novel of this genre to someone, I probably wouldn't talk about this book, but it still is my guilty pleasure author I have a lot of fun reading.

I thought this story was pretty interesting, and the main couple was very sweet. I loved the dynamic.

However, the main drawback of the story was how realistic it was. Unlike most rebirth stories, the rebirthed don't know so much that it helps them avoid trouble. Instead, it almost makes them constantly on edge trying to avoid the known traps, while also blinded by the expected future and overlooking pretty obvious things. This does lead to some pretty funny misunderstandings between the main couple, but also leads to the Mc falling in so many traps. Unlike other rebirth, where there's mind-bending reversals and prescient countermeasure, this novel has the protagonists helplessly getting in trouble no matter how much it's foreshadowed. While realistic of what would probably actually happen, this led me to barely being able to read parts of the end.

I also thought that the Mc wasn't as equal to the ml as I'd like. He's constantly being rescued and doesn't manage to hold onto his position during major times of trouble. While strong and resilient, I wish he had more control of the situation. There was no satisfying face slapping or revenge or major overhauls. The only major thing that the Mc manages to do is prevent the general's death, and that's more from love than strategic planning. It feels like the Mc is just helplessly struggling against inevitable events, with his only major contributions coming from desperately fighting for his love. I like it better when the Mc is cunning and proactive rather than love obsessed and reactive.

I also felt that the author didn't really fully redeem the villain. I could see the attempt, but in the end, I just felt it was a good example of how some people are pitiful but don't necessarily deserve mercy. Especially when the Mc is a clear example of what the villain could have done if he was really sincere in his love (support family and support his partner's duties).

The extras were also a bit disappointing. I'd much rather read about resolutions to the side characters than some alternative universe revisit to the main couple (didn't we already read enough about their separation and reunion in the main story?!)

That said, the author tells an engaging story and I loved following along on the main couple's journey into love and overcoming obstacles to love. The translation is great, with wonderful notes and translation comments that made me chuckle in agreement.

There are many tropes that I hate.
I think that my topmost is the miscommunication trope... things that can be perfectly solved in a few pages if the characters used their mouths end up taking 100 chapters. No, thank you but no.
This is one such book.
The justification? The ML is half mute, psychologically at least. He treats words as something precious that need to be saved up and never used! Why say something useful and meaningful when you can just be silent and broody? Fucking hell, he was so cute but also so fucking infuriating! Say something man, anything! At one point I was literally screaming to this man "SAY FUCKIN SOMETHINGGGGGG"
Damn, ultimately this was rather dull, predictable and therefore boring.
I was worried that there would be some random angst thrown in there just because I read one other work by this author and she did something like that and yes, an attempt was made but to no avail. The sadness failed to take root in me, I was so invested in the ML mutism that I failed to connect with any other character in the book. Mostly because of the shallowness of their traits but alsl because it was very poorly executed.
Aaaaanyway, a short read where everyone was a transmigrator. Why? How? Who cares. Three characters die at different points in time and they all transmigrate to the same save point in the past. No explanatiom given you jjst take it and roll with it lol
