As a highly recommended book, I finally ordered this book that had caught my attention several months ago by its title, having passed it by with so many other books in my 'to be read' queue. Then I made the mistake of being too curious to just lay it aside, I began reading (or listening as this was the audible version) and too many hours later after non-stop focus on the variety of integrated and interrelated mini-stories that make up this book, finished it just now. As I have often explained, my top rating for a book is if I can't put it down once begun, and not being a speed reader, usually finish the best books within 24 hours of starting. This very entertaining and engaging tale passes that test as each of its characters comes front and center to entertain as the next act in a long series of fascinating and often suspenseful episodes as narrated by each character. Each chapter consists of that segment's main characters telling the story from that person's point of experience, often overlapping another's telling of the same event.

I highly recommend this read as a 'just for fun' reading, worth taking the time out of one's busy life/day to experience a really well written book. You've earned it!

I love the writing style of Amor Towles. That being said, I found this book very long and a bit disjointed. I give it 4 stars for its attempt at originality. The characters are rich, but lack a real human connection to each other. Each has his own agenda and seems bothered by the others. An exception is the relationship between the main character and his little brother, along with their next door neighbor. The climax and ending seemed to come out of nowhere.

His characters are complicated, flawed humans with redeeming qualities. The story takes the reader on a wild ride which uncovers the reasons for their behavior in an unusual way ! Listen to the audible version. It brings even more depth to those individuals!

A wonderful story. Three adolescents from different backgrounds in search of their identity and happiness. A very small young boy with all the answers. Beautiful quotes from the the Odyssey and Shakespeare and many others.

Good character development. I missed them when the book was over. Each character had their own backstory and it was fun and unpredictable.

WELL WRITTEN, PHILOSOPIC & CLEVER, BUT NOT AT ALL ABOUT THE TITLE OR COVER PHOTO; RATHER 4 DIFFERENT TEENAGE BOYS END UP NY, 1954. SO BOTH INTERESTING & DISAPPOINTING

I loved this book. This broke from his usual format and surprised my chapter after chapter. Character development very rich and I find myself wondering how everyone faired after the closing line.
