The fiery Margaret Birks dreads her third season in London. Being born from a scandalous affair between her Viscount father and a maid, she’s always felt isolated and despised by the Ton. However, the moment she has given up hope of ever finding passionate love, she is lured to the dancefloor by the most seductive and intriguing Duke. The more time she spends with the beguiling man, the more she finds herself wondering… How anything can come of it when so many hate her, but everything feels so right in his arms? Duncan Haskett, the Duke of Templeton, stands at a crossroads; he must choose whether to court Lady Margaret who makes him longing for her touch or to follow the path the Ton has already chosen for him. As if he did not have enough conflict on his plate, someone is determined to ruin their relationship before it even starts.. Will he fight for the most seductive woman he’s ever seen or will he let her go once and for all, to maintain his good reputation? While Margaret and Duncan feel unable to tame their flaming emotions, a wicked rumor shatters their connection to shards, forcing both to accept a loveless future. However, an unexpected intervention reorients them to their former paths, giving both the chance to reignite a lust too overwhelming to resist. Will they finally risk it all for love or will they allow their undeniable desire to fade away forever? "To Rescue a Scandalous Lady" is a historical romance novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
Nope. Double spacing for maximum page read in KU, strange writing style, incorrect historical title usage etc. Pretty cover though... After some investigation, most of the reviewers of this author's back list have given a majority of 5 stars. They seem to be mostly the same group of readers. Book details mention they are all around 80K words, yet page counts are upwards of 500. All books are in kindle unlimited. Make of this, what you will. There is no author's photo or blurb.
Margaret is in her third Season. No one has ever danced with her because her father, a Lord, married her mother, a maid. They were snubbed by most in the ton, and Margaret the worst. Duncan is a Duke and is being pursued by a Lady he has known most of his life. They meet at a Ball and things develop from there. Lots of steam and a happy ending. Thanks to the author and publisher for an e-galley for an honest review.
Having read 'Kissing the Wrong Duke' just prior to this one, it was interesting to see a similar theme emerging. This time the daughter of a peer who married a maid, feels the scorn of the ton and is made to feel worthless. One point I picked up is that the men did not seem to share the cruel jests the young 'ladies' threw at Margaret. They did not ask her to dance, but late in the story it is suggested that the other debutantes were jealous of Margaret and that was mostly the basis for their hatred. Having found a reason to put her down, they probably convinced the young lords she was not to be touched. After all, that is precisely what Laura told Duncan. The atmosphere around the ton is toxic and it is mostly perpetuated by the matrons whose whole lives seem to be spent grooming their daughters to marry a Duke or as high a rank as possible. That their own lives are so empty and meaningless gives a whole new level to subjecting their daughters to the same unhappy lives. Jealousy, misplaced trust and nasty rumours abound, giving this story plenty of twists and turns. I gave it 4 stars.
Enjoy this different take on nobility marrying commoners. What if society never forgets and moves on to the next scandal? What if the children are shunned because the father married a woman beneath him in social status? Fortunately a Duke falls for the young lady’s charms but will he be strong willed enough to stand firm despite criticism from friend and foe? Someone goes further and spreads lies to try to break them up. Lots of ups and downs, but love wins! Steamy.
Margaret is a young woman scorned by the ton and Duncan is a duke He sees Margaret and knows of the lies told on her by a young woman that has set her cap for him but he falls fast and the twists and turns strive to keep them apart The characters are realistic and determined The extended epilogue completes the story with a happy ending A enjoyable and well written story
I really like the premise for this story, but felt that Margaret had too much freedom For the time period. I feel that all the white space on the pages reduces the actual length of the story. I know that she sincerely loved Duncan , But he was too quick To accept negative news from his friend Knowing her feelings. Margaret's friend Is a sweetheart. I can't do 3 1⁄2
Wonderful story from start about her father and a maid falling in love ,and defying the parents of the Lord to marry. Then years later the story starts in Ernest and the Tons never forgiving the Lords marriage to a commoner and far below them .Even taking it on there daughter many years later. A very rewarding read .
These characters were honestly meant to be together. Strong but very kind she deserves true love, kind and gentle he was also strong and caring. Together they made a loving couple. A very kind and clear novel is such pleasure reading, thank you, Jack.
Wonderful story, of two people, so different,. Margaret is a young lady shunned and criticized by her peers, because her parents dated to marry, her mother was a maid, her father a Lord. And Margaret is the prove of their love. But the Ton is cruel, all except Duncun, he,s the Duke who will dare to love and make Margaret his wife. Thank you ❤️
I admired the way Margaret navigated the ton's hypocrisy. Her pure character shone through all their pretentious values. Duncan was able to see Margaret as his ideal. Not giving any quarter to the rumors surrounding him. Instead trusting his own instincts to fulfill his greatest gift.
To be scorned and ridiculed for her birth. To have someone pay attention to her and not worry about the gossip surround her birth. To fall in love but having some one who was a friend trying to break them up. To finding true happiness.
Duncan meets Margaret at a ball but is told she is no good. He doesn't listen and is soon enamoured Laura does everything to break them apart. Being g jealous, Duncan falls for the lies and hurts Margaret. Read this book and fall in love
Four for the impelling storyline, two because of the graphic, written pornography. It’s a shame books aren’t rated, because I feel I was tricked into this “free” novel. A writer with integrity and with such story line skills, wouldn’t have to resort to smut.
When her father married a servant girl, he knew he was asking for hardship. He never wanted Margaret to have to suffer the scorn of the Ton. When she met Duncan, she finally knew that she was in love but would others let them be?
Although this book started slow, it soon gathered pace and truly a really excellent read. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys romance novels.
I really enjoyed Margaret and Duncan and wanted Margaret to slap Laura. She was such a vicious and vindictive woman and her mother was as much at fault. Thankfully Margaret’s friends were able to convince Duncan those were lies. Very enjoyable book
