The young doctor in the ER thought she saved my life. I repaid her kindness by stealing her away from everything she knew.
I fought the devil in me, but I have lived too long, and am too lonely to deprive myself of her. She will be my perfect submissive. My pet. My true north.
Katarina Donovan was good and pure, and so, so human. And then she met me.
Note: Her Vampire Hero is a standalone romance by Nicolina Martin starring a dominant vampire and the human he comes to crave. It is part of the Midnight Doms series, a spinoff of Renee Rose and Lee Savino's bestselling Bad Boy Alpha series. The books in the series can be read in any order.
USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR Nicolina Martin is a Swedish born lady who escapes the long, dark winter nights by writing hot contemporary romance/suspense.
Nicolina is a mother of three, a medical doctor, a quirky loner, and a social human being. She has traveled the globe, has had more lovers than she can count, has loved and hated, succeeded and failed, has gone through marriage and divorce. She has seen darkness and despair, as well as light and happiness.
All these experiences, she pours into her tales, taking her readers for a wild ride while twisting their minds. She loves showing that stories can be different even if the trope is the same.
This was a good vampire read. Whilst the main hero wasn’t as dark as I thought he would be he was likeable. Heroine I also quite liked. I’m not a fan of BDSM so I admit I skimmed those parts.

Lou is brought to the hospital and Katarina thinks he's dead until his pulse sparks up and then she's all in and wants to make sure he makes a full recovery. Lou should have let her think he was dead and then slipped out quietly instead of letting her help him back to 'life'. He's a vampire so all he had to do was erase himself from their memories but instead he jumps out the window and disappears after he's healed enough to do so.
Katarina couldn't stop thinking about him after he disappeared. She is having a hard time sleeping or doing her job because her thoughts keep coming back to him and she's sad that she'll probably never see him again.
He finds her in the parking garage and he pleads with her to forget him but she won't and then he does what he never thought he would do...he leaves a human with the memories of him and now she knows he's a vampire. He promises her that if she tells anyone that he will come back. But then he leaves her and she dreams about him. He probably would have left her alone if she hadn't been attacked. He comes to her rescue and saves her life and he knows he can't let her go.
It was heartbreaking to see how lonely and sad they both were. As she heals from her attack, they get to know one another better and can see that there's an attraction there between them even though he's a vampire. But he all but kidnaps her and tells her that she can never go back to her life. I had high hopes for this book but it was my least favorite so far from this series. I didn't like how he treated her and I didn't like how Katarina, a doctor just became this meek little pushover that let him do whatever he wanted and didn't treat her right at times.
The Midnight Doms series is part of a multi author series but for the most part can be read as standalone books. I am reading this series completely out of order and haven't felt lost at all.
I really enjoyed Her Vampire Hero. It's a very steamy, NSFW story with a slight dub-con feel but not overly dark. Both main characters were immensely likeable, I wasn't always 100% convinced by Kat's decisions but then it would have been a completely different book if she hadn't made some of them! I hasten to add that it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the story in any way, shape or form.
The interactions between Kat and Lou were amazing, they definitely had scorching hot chemistry. Whilst insta-love isn't a favourite trope of mine the author did do an excellent job of convincing me of the attraction between this pair and the situation didn't feel forced. In fact, the writing as a whole is of a high standard, and the story is eminently engaging.
I did feel the story occasionally lacked some background. Why was the 'King of Louisiana' so obsessed with destroying Lou? What was Lou's vampire background? Why did Lucian and Selene take to him so quickly? It felt as though some (minor) details were glossed over - possibly they occur in other books in the series, I haven't read them so wouldn't know. Since none of it was majorly important to the plot, again it didn't spoil my enjoyment.
For me personally, the last few chapters did feel a little abrupt. It would be wrong to say there weren't any clues as to how the story would evolve, but it was the way the focus/feel of the story changed so swiftly that made it just feel a little dissonant. It went from 'here we have a captive semi-consensual BDSM D/s relationship' to it suddenly being something else (I won't say what because..... spoilers). Whilst I still liked what I was reading it did leave me feeling slightly perturbed, a little thrown out of the story and for that reason it did lose half a star.
I would recommend this for those who enjoy well-written paranormal romances. The kink isn't too pervasive but the heat level in this one is scorching - you have been warned!
My favorite of this spin-off so far. This book was very different than what I have grown accustomed to from this author. However, I really enjoyed the world building, the characters, and seeing Lucius and Selene again.
ER Dr. Katarina is faced with a cadaver as her shift is almost over. Kat needs more in her life of working, work, and more work. Lou will provide what Kat needs. The cadaver just needs the doc to sign the death certificate but she examines the gorgeous man laying dead and senses life. Lou, a vampire senses Kat's feelings and can't resist letting Kat "save" him. Lou takes off from the hospital, but Kat can't seem to forget him. As she searches for Lou, she ends up being viciously attacked by a vampire outside the BDSM club for these creatures of the night, Club Toxic, and left for dead. Lou finds her and takes care of her, he saves her life, he does not want to take it, but fears his need might make him lose control. There is a strong attraction for each to the other but it can never be, Kat is what's called a sweetblood and Lou is a very old VAMPIRE. This is a love story that shouldn't be, but Kat wants Lou and is willing to give all she can to have him. Lou wants Kat, but isn't willing to take everything from her to have her. Other than a horrible event near the beginning and a bloody act of destruction towards the end, this is truly a love story.
Kat is a doctor and spends her days caring for others. When she's not at work, she's caring for her parents as she is the only surviving child. With an empty house, she throws herself in to her work more and more. Then one night he shows up in her ER. Presumed dead, but the reader has to ask themselves...is he? Lou has spent thousands of years wandering the Earth looking for the one that sings to his soul (if he has one) and that's when he finds Kat. This book does not lack for anything. It has some super hot steam, wonderful characters and the storyline was well thought out. As this was my first time reading a book by Nicolina Martin, I have to say I am officially a fan of her work.

I liked parts of this story but found other aspects confusing. For example, how did the title fit the story? I did not see Lou as a hero in any way; to me he was equal parts victim and villain. I understood some of Kat’s behaviour but for such an intelligent woman, at times she acted unspeakably naive and young. I liked the intense connection the two had but found Lou to be mysterious to the pint of frustration. In my opinion, the story would have been greatly enriched if Lou’s past had been uncovered rather than just revealing his vast age and ending there. This book was not my favourite in this series but if you loved the Bad Boy Alpha series, it is worth a look.

Her Vampire Hero was quite a ride in my opinion. It's been a while since I've read a book that's focused on BDSM and a book about vamps. So imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon this gem that has both! So obviously I read this goodie though I probably should've started with the first book but all of them are standalones so you can just read whatever you want. Would still recommend reading it in order though.
Anyway, this book was great in delivering what readers expect when you dive into it. Not a lot of plot twists actually. It was a little predictable though. I was also confused at some parts of it, especially when the heroine was interacting with the staff at the place they were staying at. I wasn't a fan of the hot and cold thing the staff had going on. You didn't really know if they were your friends or not but I'll just attribute it to the heroine being naïve.
See, that's another thing. If you expect a badass heroine, then this isn't for you. She is a damsel in distress though and like the title says, the hero is literally Her Vampire Hero.
It's a fun, quick read that I might re-read again in the future. Will read more of the series.
ER doctor Kat Donovan is told a man has almost had his head torn off – can she confirm and declare “time of death”. She finds a stunning man, with no obvious wounds. He is not breathing, and his heart does not beat. But when she mourns the loss of this unknown man and touches his shoulder– his eyelids move, and his heart beats.
Vampire Lou is centuries old. Kat’s touch sparked his heart and invades his dreams. He must wipe her memory which might hurt her or take her as his captive. Delightful story of relationships and connections. Loved this take on the vampire.

I devoured this book, it has a great mix of angst, attraction, tension on whether they will stay together, some fun and a story line that has you turning the page. For a shorter book it has loads packed into it, I would have liked just a bit more back history on Lou but there was still plenty to keep you satisfied so get settled for a book that will draw you in and have you squirming in your seat! 😉

Nicolina Martin brings an ancient vampire to life in this romance. Lou comes to town and is in the fight of his life when he "dies" and finds himself at the ER. When Kat goes to save him, Lou jumps out the window and runs.
Kat can't let this go and finds out that the life of a vampire is real, but it may take her human life away from her. Is Kat willing to give her life away to stay with Lou? Does Lou want Kat to make that sacrifice?
I enjoy this authors style of writing she brings us awesome characters who are well developed and engaging and have chemistry throughout the pages. While the storyline has a smooth flow to it.

I liked this one. Kat (h), is a doctor at a hospital. Single, career focused, lonely. The only survivng child of her parents she's devoted herself to them, her studies & now her career. She takes extra shifts knowing she has nothing & no one to go home to or to be with. Until HE is brought to the emergency room late one night, broken, bloody & dead. Isn't he? Lou (H), is a three thousand year old vampire. Single, powerful, lonely. Despite his age, strength & power he doesn't crave a kingdom, a territory, minions or humans to lord over. But he's wandered for thousands of years yearning for that 'one' to make his existence bright. And so against his better judgement, Lou takes Kat as his. For the rest of her natural life. And against Kat's better judgement, she wants to be with Lou. For eternity. This book is very well written, I enjoyed the plot, the characters, the writing. But what pulled it from a 5 star to a 4 star (for *me*) is the extra something that makes a story >magic< was missing for me. Nothing that ruined anything, I was invested in & intrigued by the characters & plot, there were no parts I skipped or wanted to. No glaring errors, the plot moved quickly (vampire fast in places), but through most of the book I felt very, detached, which surprised me as it is written in first person with both Lou & Kat's alternating POV's. I was never 'immersed' in the story, never forgot I was reading a book. I wasn't swirled into it, never 'felt' any great depth of emotion: nervous, excitement, worry, happy, upset. And, I personally never got a sense that Lou was a Dom per se. Yes, he did some Dom things but it seemed to come & go. It seemed more that his vampire abilities were actually the dominating side of him, not that he was a Dom (although he did love giving erotic pain). BUT, that's ME & MY impressions. This is a very good read: excellent characters, a nicely suspenseful plot, steamy erotic tension, angst & romance. There is sizzling heat, danger, betrayal, tension, suspense & extremely well done settings in both Club Toxic & Lou's ultimate home in Tucson. Readers will hope Lou & Kat reach a HEA together & there is a nice epilogue to finish off the story. I expect MANY, if not MOST will greatly enjoy this well done read.
Don’t go looking for the monsters in the shadows. They will find you. Enjoyed this one. Enjoyed the characters. Was nice to see Selene and Lucious again. Lou and Kat's story is heart wrenching.

What I really enjoyed about Her Vampire Hero is how much it made me think about life for a vampire. Lou is old, so very old, and his long experience makes him reluctant to have anything to do with Kat, the ER doctor who inadvertently witnesses his revival from a dangerously comatose state. After her discoveries and interest in him put her in danger from other vampires, Lou finds himself claiming Kat as his pet and servant to his whims.
Kat is somewhat naively interested in the vampire life but also chafes against the restrictions Lou is making her live with. But those restrictions are there to protect Kat, who doesn’t realize the risks she’s facing from fellow vampires. After all, when you’ve lived for thousands of years, vampires like Lou make enemies.
Kat is a great character—she’s smart, she realizes very quickly the situations she’s facing are not safe, and she adapts well to the changed realities she faces. Lou has this marvelous aged ennui about him that is completely revivified by Kat’s kindness and humanity. These two worked so well together as a couple, and I loved reading their interactions. But they aren’t perfect, and their imperfections grew out of their characters, which is the best kind of plot development in a romance. The problems that arise between them didn’t seem forced because the Plot Needed Tension.
There’s a nice return of characters like Selene and Lucius from the Bad Boy Alpha series by Renee Rose and Lee Savino. It was especially great to see the growth in Selene, who was a unique character in that earlier series.
There were some drawbacks to Her Vampire Hero. I thought Kat adapted way too quickly to the lifestyle Lou made for her. It felt strange, considering the drive she had to be a doctor and the compassion she had for others, that she went into a completely new life with little to no mention of her previous one after a quick visit to her apartment for clothes and one note to her parents. And I didn’t understand why it took Lou so long to find his own new home when he needed one. That did seem a bit like a plot manufacture to drive things along in a certain way.
Martin has an assured writing style, and her ability to build character is really marvelous. Her Vampire Hero gripped me from the start and didn’t let go until the last page was turned.
“Her Vampire Hero” is the fourth book in the Midnight Doms series. Each book is written by a different author but set in the same world. This book, is no exception to the others since it is a compliment to the original author’s books. The books are stand alone reads but if, you read the series your experience will be enhanced and you will enjoy meeting characters from previous stories. Lee Savino and Renee Rose are gifted story tellers and you will enjoy all the stories. Nicolina Martin is a new author for me, she has talent and creates beautiful characters and new twists that are different from most Vampire romances. I will definitely be looking for more of her books. Kat is a Doctor in the ER, who works long hours because her life revolves around studying and working. She is professional, intelligent and one night, the patient is a handsome man tagged as DOA, but he isn’t dead. She feels compassion for him and cannot let him die. Lou is a very old Vampire, he was badly wounded by an enemy, taken to the hospital and as he lies there without a heart beat, he smells something pure and wonderful. He opens his eyes to see Kat and he knows he has to have her. From this moment, the story takes off - Lou is the perfect Vampire, charming, deadly and will do whatever to protect his woman. Kat finds herself, in a new world and begins to learn about it. The chemistry between them is there from the start and their connection is strong but there cannot be a forever between a Vampire and a human. Or can there? Lou doesn’t want to turn her because he loves her so deeply and doesn’t want to take her life. She wants him and accepts that she wants the life of a Vampire, so they can be together. They struggle with these feelings and when they act, their consequences are far reaching in the results of their relationship. Nicolina Martin gives us plenty of danger, kidnapping, intrigue, secrets, HOT sexy scenes, Alpha men, some BDSM elements and hot romance. The sex appeal and tension between Lou and Kat is electric!! I am truly loving the Midnight Dom series and enjoyed this story!
Quick Summary Ancient vampire Lou was turned is such a traumatic way, he has never been able to regain his memories of before the change. Now he’s a powerful immortal who never settles in one place, preferring to stay apart and secluded for the rest of his kind. When he gets attacked and left for dead, he ends up at a human hospital and cared for by Kat, an ER doctor.
He never planned to take her, let alone keep her but the pull he feels for Kat is something Lou has never felt before and when Kat feels the same, it’s impossible to distance himself from her. But Lou’s world is more dangerous than Kat realized. Her decision to willing become a part of this darker grittier underworld might be more than she anticipated.
🖤 ~ My Thoughts ~ 🖤 I feel like vampires are making a comeback in 2020 and I’m kind of happy about it. This book definitely had the vampire vibes down pat. There’s dark nights, predatory hunger, a pulsing club that caters to the supernatural, mysterious characters and the lure of power.
Lou was a dark character, his unknown past is a chip on his shoulder and I definitely felt for him and I could see why that would color his outlook on siring others. Kat was likable too but I wish she'd been more persistant with Lou. There were reasons why he thought the way he did and rather than confront him about it until he revealed his real apprehension to her, she does something TSTL and has to force to decision.
Things happen that I definitely feel should have been given a bit more closure but in the end it all gets handled and that sweet 10 years later epilogue shows them together and solid as a couple.
Heat Level: 3/5 Ages: Kat is 29 and Lou is thousands of years old :) BDSM: humans who are submissive are referred to as sweetbloods. The endorphins in their blood taste sweeter to a vampire and Kat is one that is highly desired not only by Lou but she attracts others to her.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
WOW!!!! Her Vampire Hero by Nicolina Martin is everything you want to read about Vampires and more. What happens when a lonely ER doctor gets caught up in a whirlwind when she encounters a broken dead man at the hospital as she is drawn to him only to find that he is alive! Kat's life is about to change as she can't seem to forget the handsome man she saw go out the window of the hospital as her dreams her haunted by him and she is having a hard time getting through her days. Can it be possible Vampire's exist. Now she is on a quest to find him. Lucius Frangelico is a 3,000 year old vampire who keeps to himself as he is trying to find the vampire who attacked him, but with this one encounter with Kat he is compelled towards her and is fighting his feelings. Now Kat's life is in danger when she gets near Club Toxic with hopes of seeing him she gets attacked in the alley by a vicious man, bitten and left for dead. Lucius comes to her rescue, takes her to the club and nurtures her back to life. Kat is about to get a lesson about Lucius lifestyle as well as him trying to keep his distance the attraction between them is too strong. Lucius is dealing with issues after all these years regarding his turning and all the people who he has lost in his life and is determined not to turn anyone. This is a highly charged sensual story with BDSM and violence thrown in. You will be mezmerized with each chapter as you follow the journey these two are about to embark on which is raw and passionate. Kat has fallen in love with Lucius and wants to be turned but he will not relent to her request. Will Kat have to take matters in her own hands as she doesn't want to be known as a sweetblood or is she being led by someone else who seeks revenge on Lucius? Now a plot is in the works to take Kat out of the equation will Lucius and his friends be able to save her in time? You will be on the edge of your seat with what happens next with all of the twists and turns. Nicolina has taken her readers into this decadent dark world of the paranormal. Can't wait for the next book in the Midnight Dom Series.

I am always a bit wary of reading books by different authors but set in the same world. You never know what you will get - some are a tribute to the original author’s books and others manage to ruin the world. This book definitely falls into the first category. Nicolina Martin has taken the Bad Boy Alpha series set in Tucson and added a story that fits seamlessly into this world. You do not have to read that series to enjoy this book, but the experience will be enhanced (Plus, the books by Lee Savino and Renee Rose are great!) and you will recognize familiar characters.
Primarily set in Club Toxic, a very old vampire, Lou, falls in love with a human, Kat. He struggles with the idea of losing her and because of his overwhelming fears, Lou fails to really hear what Kat wants from him, their relationship and her life. These struggles force each of them to act impulsively and has far reaching consequences for their relationship and the people around them. It all boils down to the fact that only you know what is best for yourself, no matter what anyone else tells you!
I enjoyed this story - it stayed true to the original series, featured familiar characters, and had some very sexy scenes. You can feel the emotions of the characters - love, fear, loneliness, happiness, pain and even the sexual longing - from the great writing by the author. I had a hard time putting this book down until the end. For any fan of Lee Savino and Renee Rose, this book is a must read!
I received this book free from the author for my honest review. Since I rely heavily on reviews to make decisions about reading choices and purchases, I will never lie or over exaggerate my opinion. There is nothing worse than seeing a bunch of 5 star reviews and realizing the book is full of errors or just plain bad and not worth my hard earned money!
This was an excellent read. Thoroughly enjoyable vampires at their best ;-) Kat is a Doctor that works in the emergency department, often during the graveyard shift. When a DOA arrives and needs her to sign off on him, she realises that he is alive and calls in her team to help him. Of course Lou isn’t really alive...he’s not exactly dead either. He’s a centuries old vampire who is inexplicably drawn to Kat just as she is to him. They can sense each other’s loss. When she witnesses things that she shouldn’t, Lou takes her prisoner as she is simply too special to use compulsion on. Together, as their relationship heats up in the basement of the vampire BDSM club where Lou has been residing until he has found somewhere more suitable to call home for them both, they explore the roles of master and submissive. Kat takes to the life like a born natural, but she wants more from their relationship. She doesn’t want to simply age and it be over. She wants forever. However things don’t go exactly to plan when enemies from Lou’s past turn up in his present and risk everything he loves. A brilliantly written story that keeps the pages turning til the very end. Absolutely loved it.

Kat is only doctor working in Emergency Room at the hospital when a fatality brought in. Kat is merely supposed to catalog a DOA coming in and sign papers to transfer to the morgue...but he's beautiful, bloody, but skin still soft, and did his eye just blink...was that a heart beat...and has him taken to ICU as he is still alive...but Lou is low on blood, luckily the O-negative being pumped into him helps him heal, but he has to get out of there but can't forget the lonely, lovely doctor who helped him....he escapes the hospital but Kat can't forget the man, but her dreams are getting weird, sexy dreams of the man from the hospital, who jumped out of third story window. Lou is an ancient Vampire, who had an issue in Louisiana and traveled to Tucson and was attacked by coyotes. He is welcomed by Lucian Frangelico, King of the Vampires, and his mate, Selene, and to assist in his recovery, offered a safe room at Club Toxic... but he can't forget Dr. Donovan and ends up saving her from another creature of the night when she saw paranormal activity near the club and investigated...so she is now his captive, but you will need to read this tale to see what happens...I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Her Vampire Hero is the fourth book in the Midnight Doms series, but can be read completely as a stand alone. Kat is an ER doctor and when she’s called to pronounce a man dead, she’s shocked at his recovery. When the man haunts her dreams, she goes looking for him, but is she ready to face the answers to all her questions?
This book was simply beautiful in the writing. I felt like I was reading a love poem, written from one character into the other. I lost all sense of time when I was reading and just got sucked into the world and romance between Kat and Lou. There’s a sweet and romantic side to this story, along with the possessive and dark elements, plus add in their chemistry, and it was the perfect recipe for a delicious read! I loved Kat’s curiosity, her way of going with the flow, and her acceptance of everything that was Lou and his world. Lou has been around for so long and has been so alone, so my favorite part was watching him accept Kat into his life until she was so woven in and he couldn’t let her leave! They were perfect for each other, their kinks, their desires, their dreams. I loved the drama in this story, too, and I enjoyed how everything played out in the end. I am loving Ms. Martin’s take on these vampires and was thrilled with Kat and Lou!
This novel was very lyrically and well written and edited, with few if any typos or wrong word choices in the text. The world building was competent and so was the characterization. Many people would probably thoroughly enjoy this romance. However, for this reader, the sky-high angst experienced by the hero of this novel kind of made this reader want to tell him to stop being a whiny brat. The instant acceptance of the paranormal by the heroine and her willingness to jump right into bed with a creature of the night was a little jarring for this reader. The novel ends optimistically and did not have a cliffhanger ending, so that was a plus. The lyrical writing and world building of this novel rates four stars, with the hero and heroine of this novel both rating two stars, for a combined rating of three stars. The really high angst (internal conflict) and fairly low stakes (external conflict) in this romance novel is a narrative structure that this reader typically finds really distasteful. I recommend this novel for romance readers who enjoy high angst and low stakes in their romances.

Though I have read all the books of the Midnight Doms series, I have never read a book by Nicolina Martin. I must say I have a new author to follow! This was a delectable love story between Lou, a 3,000-year-old vampire and Kat, a young ER doctor. They meet when Lou ends up in the ER room and Kat has to sign off his death, except he’s not really dead. From the first curious touch, Ka, cannot help be captivated by Lou. Even after her instincts and her curiosity confirm Lou is a vampire, she cannot help but be drawn to him. Lou is similarly affected by their intense connection. Never having experienced a close connection with a human, he is surprised by his desire to take her away from her world and make her his. Their connection extends beyond a physical attraction, and the way we get to experience their budding love in the first person makes us feel like it is something of a spiritual nature. Lou wants to keep her as his human love and be by her side until the end of her days. Kat wants to be with him forever. As they struggle with that aspect of their relationship, dangers lurk nearby that threatens Kat’s safety. I absolutely devoured this book. It had wonderful characters and an interesting setting. I was overjoyed to see so much of Luscious and Selene, among other cameo appearances. I cant wait to see what comes next in the world of Midnight Doms.
Two things hit me right from the start. This is the first book I have read by this autbor, and, I am not a big vampire fan.
I was pleasantly surprised. I started this book and was immediately hooked. I have grudgingly read vampire romances before, but This one felt very different to me. It was more than someone just running around at night, draining people of their blood, and hiding from the light.
Lou and Kay were so drawn to each other. I felt kind of sorry for Kay because her existence seemed so lonely before Lou. Lou seemed so damaged when he met Kay. He gradually started to heal as Kay was drawn more into his world.
This book is full of suspense, betrayal, vampire magic, and some action. I wasn't sure if Lou was a Dom or not. Sometimes he seemed to be, and he and Kay played. Other times, I thought his behaviour was because he was a 3000 year old vampire.
The characters and the storyline were interesting. There was romance, some steam, and the inevitable HEA. This was an enjoyable read. Vampires are still not on my hit list of genre's, but this wasn't bad at all.

—>>> Dr. Katarina Donovan brings a mysterious man thought dead in the ER back to life and does not realize she has made an impression on Lou, a very old vampire who barely survived a vicious attack. Both are very lonely souls, drawn inexplicably to each other. When Lou returns the favor one night, all bets are off. She is taken to Club Toxic under the watchful eyes of the vampire king to recover from an event which would otherwise have left her for dead.
~ Katarina. I need you to understand this. You cannot go back to your life as it was. From now on, your life rests in my hands. You belong to me.”
“From the moment—”
“—you traced my profile, back in the hospital, oozing of sadness, grieving a stranger you had never seen before, you were meant to end up here.” ~
Soon, however, her keen mind and lonely heart yearns for more, but Lou would not wish his way of life on anybody:
~ This life is a lonely one. It is violent, filled with death, pain, betrayal and loss. I have never turned a human, and I never will.” ~
A human with a breaking heart will take what means they can to remain with love of their life…or die at least trying.
This is the first book I've read by this author, but hopefully not the last. It was twisty-turn badness at its best. The beginning fantasies from both characters is a bit confusing, but once I got past those, the story really took off for me. I liked Kat's strength and how she was written, yet spoiler alert - I also wish the reason she was so willing to give up her life was spelled out. I mean the reader can feel how much she cares for Lou, but she also thinks about escaping, then just accepts her circumstances and wants to get "lost"; in the darkness with Lou. While Lou on the other hand has few qualms about ripping her from the life she's living, yet he doesn't readily give her the one thing she requests to stay with him. Now the BDSM scenes enclosed were all well written and hot as hell, which is why I'll want to read more from this author, to see if the action and emotion melds better in future storylines.

Ohhh I loved this book! It's by a new to me author and I'll definitely be on the lookout for more books. Good vampire books can be hard to come by or maybe I have pickier tastes but this one gets five big stars from me for sure.
Kay is a professional, intelligent woman who finds herself in a whole new world she's forced to learn about. I liked how caring she was and she's the perfect example of the saying "don't mistake my kindness for weakness" because she definitely wasn't weak. Lou was a perfect vampire. He had the charm but also the deadliness that comes with being a vampire and willing to do whatever it takes to protect his woman.
There's plenty of danger and close calls, kidnapping, some light slave/master BDSM content mixed with the fact the story is about vampires really makes the book irresistibly seductive. And my goodness the sex appeal and tension between Kay and Lou was thick. Loved the entire book.

Kat is use to what comes through the ER. She didn’t expect to find a handsome man tagged as DOA, but he isn’t dead. She isn’t about to let him die. Lou smelled something clean, pure. He knew he had to have her but didn’t want to taint her. When something happens that he can’t change, he will make sure she is always protected and even loved. I am really loving the Midnight Dom series. I love visiting Frangelico and Selena at Club Toxic. New blood and more fun and hot sex. This story is more a romance then the others. Lou didn’t plan to take Kat as his own but when he got the chance, he not only kept her safe and protected but he showed her the wilds of Club Toxic. It truly opened up Kat to a whole new world. I love that she is a doctor and knows her stuff. It is sad that she has family that will never understand this world. This story will make you cry though. I did. Hard lessons to learn and love.
