4 Exactly What I Wanted Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free- It's Free!!!
I love music... all types and sometimes, just like the books I read, I want to have a little something that just makes me feel good. Doesn't need a thumping beat to make my heart race; doesn't need to be a classical composition to make me think and ponder...although I like those too. No... sometimes the classification can be that easy listening type of thing where you kick back and just enjoy the moments around you and it is all good.

This series, Montana Born Bachelor Auction and particularly this entry of What a Bachelor Wants by Kelly Hunter, did the trick and then some.
There was ease to this reading... a sense of purpose and knowing you were in great hands and well taken care of...which was exactly what the main character Mardie needed and deserved.

Mardie is the focus of this installment. The basis of the series is a charity auction for a young local old boy who had a devastating accident leaving him wheelchair-bound and his single mother burden with medical bills. Numerous local single men have been talked into participating in this auction with the proceeds going to the family in need. This gives us multiple stories tied together and a familiarity that helps the reader with each book. They can be read in any order.

Mardie is working at the Grey's Saloon, the location of the event. She has been dreading this day because she will have to see a person from her past which will bring up difficult memories. What's sad is Jett Casey is the only good of that night. But to worry about being around him and possibly interacting.... she just does not know how she can handle it.

For Mardie, since 15, had watched Jett from a distance. He was a year older and already driven to become the World Class Olympic Skier he is today. Then she would be like other girls...dream a little but put it aside. She ended up later making a mistake in her young adult life....falling for the wrong man. She learned the hard lesson at the end of his fists. But the biggest and best lesson she learned was when she was at her lowest ebb from Jett.

Jett had been in town between racing seasons and saw something in an alley, called out, and ran over. There was Mardie, beaten, head bleeding, and almost unconscious. The man had run leaving her there and Jett moved in slowly as if she was a wounded animal. He inched forward; Mardie recognizing him and becoming concerned for him to leave her. Jett gathered her in his arms; told her an ambulance was coming...to hang on and she was worth living her life... to not let go...she deserved better. She never said who did this to her. Only when he saw the look of fear in her eyes telling him to stay back at the hospital, did he put together her old boyfriend did this. She expressed no to him while being led away by the boy's powerful father...and Jett decided to give her that.

Jett has always been haunted by those moments with Mardie... the feel of her against his chest... her clinging to him. He has dreamt of the girl turned woman and wondered... could he have done something different... should he have...Now he is seeing her years later. She moves along the Saloon sure of herself and strong. He likes watching her but becomes distracted as the auction is about to take place.

Mardie has just delivered drinks to her friends...one of them is teasing her about the needs of her new home where she and little Claire live. Mardie has worked to overcome her past. That night was the turning point. She confronted the husband's father, made sure to get her divorce and the son gone. Made sure they had no claim to her beautiful daughter when she was born. Made sure to feel good about her honest work and the life she provided for them. She was stronger now and making her way. Yes, the house she just bought was a ugly duckling... but in her heart she knew it could become a swan with a lot of love and care. It was just going to take time and the cash was not there right now... She told her friends she had a list and was working through it.

The auction starts as planned and Jett is up for bid. He was supposed to do a ski trip with the winner but he recently became injured so the trip would have to be at a later date. As an alternative and help the bidding process, he shares his extreme talents in construction backed by the fact of his brother's company. The bidding starts and ends up at a healthy $2,300. Mardie's friends decided to pool resources and give her Jett to work on her house for a week. Mardie tries to get out of ii..doesn't work and now she is going to have Jett in her house. How will she stand it...for her mind has so much confusion about him... he saw her at her worst... what will he think...Yet her body loves the look of him and remembers the feel of him holding her close. What to do...

This tale took you on the sweetest of non rushed discovery. There was charm in abundance. There was character development and understanding of what each of them needed and wanted. There was a central truth to it... neither character playing games or posturing...just honestly dealing with all of the "stuff" between them open and freely. I absolutely loved how it played out.

There was also a couple of added bonuses... Claire, Mardie's 1-year-old daughter. What a cutie... and perfect in the way the story developed. She was a perfect way to show how natural Jett became comfortable and accepted. It just worked.

Yes, there was a little spice and it was delicious...but overall the feeling after this read will be ahhhhh.
So if you are looking for a little something to enjoy, something which will make you feel wrapped up in arms and safe, then this book is for you.

4 - "You like betting on dark horses." Stars.

The fourth book in the Montana Born Bachelor Auction series, is definitely one of my favorites so far.

"How do I measure up?"

Jett and Mardie, ticked all the boxes in relation to what I want to read in a romantic novella, loved the addition of her young baby daughter Claire into the mix, and the easy going development and nature of their relationship in the story. This is a low drama, sexy, easy read novella that will leave you with a little smile and a lighter heart!

I cannot recommend this series highly enough if you are looking for a couple of hours of entertainment, each novella can easily be read as a stand-alone, and every one of them has been pretty entertaining so far.

The Montana bachelor action series continues and this time Mardie and Jett's story is in the limelight.

She's a waitress with a run down house and a beautiful little girl. He's an Olympics athlete and a daredevil. What do they have in common? Besides going to school together, he saved her a few years ago from an abusive husband and ever since they've been in each others minds.

Mardie's friend buys him for her at the bachelor action in order for him to fix up her house in a week.

description

Little do they know that a week it's all that takes for them to find their way to each other and to want more from the future...together.

description

If you want an easy and short love story this is the book for you but otherwise it was a pretty flat read, uneventful and predictable.

What a Bachelor Needs is the fourth in a six part novella series from Tule Publishing Montana Born Bachelor Auction.

This is Mardie Griffin and Jett Casey's story.

Mardie's friend Ella buys Jett at the auction for his handyman services so he can work on Mardie's old house that is in desperate need of work but what Ella doesn't know is that they met two years ago on a terrible night. Monday morning arrives and Jett is ready with his tool box, will it only be DIY that happens between Mardie and Jett or will the attraction win.

I really enjoyed What s Bachelor Needs the flirting was funny and baby Claire and Jett together so cute, again I found this to be different to the other books in this series.

Looking forward to reading the rest of the Montana Born Bachelor Auction series and I enjoyed Kelly Hunter's writing.

Jett Casey is a handyman and a famous ski athlete, and he’s a famewh0re. He likes the attention and the posse of women thrown at his feet. But he isn’t a playboy. He can have any girl he wants, but that’s not what he needs. His eyes and heart is recently captured by Mardie, a shaken and beat-up girl he helped in an alley a few years back.

Mardie, on the other hand, keeps her distance, knowing that Jett can tell anyone about what happened in her past. Their paths meet again during the Bachelor Auction Bidding, though this time, Mardie doesn’t bid for him but her friend Ella. All along, Ella intends to bid for the handyman so that she can throw him at Mardie and have him fix her dump house. Floors, carpets, walls, babyseats and kitchen later, they found themselves kissing and dreaming at the top of mountain slopes. Is there hope for Mardie for a second chance, knowing Jett’s only going to be with her in just a week?

Well, your guess is as good as mine.

I liked the story a lot. Although this was quite the typical trope, it still engages the reader to finish until the end. Kelly Hunter’s writing is eclectic, sweet and hot and easy to devour. The next thing I knew, I’m on the last chapter of the book and can feel my jaw hurting because of all the smiles I did while reading. There’s this one scene that really cracked me up; the one where Mardie’s father went on a surprise visit to her daughter, and Jett tries very hard to hide the fact that he spent the night in her bed.

And then, just when it couldn’t get any worse, he heard footsteps, followed by a sleepy voice coming from somewhere in the hallway.

“Jett Casey, there had better be coffee made and ready to drink in that kitchen, because I distinctly remember you saying something about sleeping in. You promised, when you woke me up with kisses at four am and we —” Mardie rounded the doorway, all sleep soft and disheveled, rubbing at her eyes with the back of her hand and wearing nothing but a watermelon-colored tank top and white panties.
“Dad!”
“Daughter!”
She closed her eyes with a wince, and opened them as if this time the view would be different.
“He’s still there,” Jett offered helpfully.

That was totally humiliating (on Mardie’s part) yet I found it sweet and funny and cheesy. Ha Ha, I’m a goner! Can’t wait to read the next book!

I did not mean to read all of the Kelly Hunter books that I bought earlier in the week, but I appear to have done so anyway. Something about her writing just works like candy on my brain and it's ridiculously easy for me to mainline. The whole Montana extended universe thing that Tule doesn't isn't my FAVORITE, but I did very much enjoy this even if random Aussieness stands out to me more in her writing her. (I have never in my life heard someone in the US say black and one when referring to coffee, for example.) Happy I seem to have found these right when a new entry is coming out and I hope to see the rest of the brothers in turn. Her family work is so good.

This lovely romance is the story of Jett and Mardie. After rescuing Mardie from a difficult situation two years prior, she had never left Jett's mind. Now he's been purchased in a bachelor auction to be her handyman for a week and is determined to make up for what he sees as a personal failure from the past. Mardie knows not to look a gift horse in the mouth and having Jett around to help fix up her house is a godsend. But when Jett appears as interested in her as in his handyman job, will she be willing to open herself up to the possibility of something more?

I really enjoyed this story! Jett is the sweetest guy - strong, dependable, capable and flirtatious. He's pretty much always gotten what he wanted, with women and in life and being sidelined from his skiing has given him the chance to focus on what he really wants for his future. Much to his surprise, the quiet strength and beauty of Mardie calls to him like no other woman, and his attraction to her has not been diminished over time and their past history. I loved Mardie's character too - she's overcome a bad marriage, is raising a child on her own and has found the inner strength required to move forward. The sexual attraction between her and Jett is hard to deny and leads to some sweet and sexy scenes. I enjoyed the banter between them and the sexual tension heating up as the week progressed. Equally as interesting were the secondary characters, friends and family of Mardie and Jett who want only the best for each of them and realize that together they make a great pair. I don't always like stories with young children in them, but this one was done really well and the interaction of Jett with Mardie's daughter Claire was super sweet and loveable. For me, this was a truly enjoyable and entertaining read. 5 stars!

He had come to her rescue one night along time ago, but no one knew it. Then Mardie's friend "buys" her Jett at an auction so he can fix up her house. Jett was sooooooo sweet it almost made your teeth hurt. Wow, she worked a lot plus had a toddler...Superwoman. This story moved so fast and there were so many people introduced it almost made my head spin. There are a lot of great secondary characters for more books.

What a Bachelor Needs is another great addition to the Montana Born Bachelor Auction series. Jett and Mardie are a great couple with a natural chemistry and brought everything I could ask for from a romantic short read.

"There must always be flirting."

Light, sweet, sexy and touching plus a good dose of cute injected by Mardie's little girl and humour from Jett's brothers, What a Bachelor Needs is one of those reads that just leaves you in a happy place with a smile firmly in place.

"Sometimes it's about finding my way home."

Fourth in the series of Montana born bachelors and I am still loving these storys, delightfully sweet romances that just leave you feeling happy when your done with them .

Maddie Griffen is hard working single mom, a fairly new home owner of a true fixer upper. Marie works at Grey's saloon were the bachelor auction is being held , so she has a birds eye view of all the happenings . Her girlfreind wants to buy a bachelor to support the fundraising cause and asks Mardie for her suggestion, for Mardie there is no one else except Jett Casey, sexy Olympic skier and winner and someone who helped her out previously at a very low point in her life.

Jett gladly volunteered his services for the auction, on offer a backwoods ski excursion for a group of four, with an alternate plan due to recent injury of a week of handyman service. The bidding was fast a furious and Mardie freind wins Jett , now the hard part getting Mardie to agree to accept Jett's services.

Mardie was reluctant to say the least but she finally caves and the next week is filled with Jett coming to her home doing the handiwork but more importantly building a lovely relationship , accepting of Mardie's choices and her daughter; gaining her full trust.

Lovely , lovely romance, these two are wonderful together.
I can not recommend this series enough, they just leave you happy!

I received this book as an ARC for my honest review from Net Galley.

Somehow I stumbled upon this excellent series about a bunch of sexy Bachelors that are being auctioned off for a great cause. I love the idea of the series although it is about the same town and the same auction the books are written by different Authors. With it being written this way you are getting a fresh look from different points of view but all with the same beautiful result. Great idea, Great series!

I want to start by saying great job Kelly Hunter for touching on some great issues in this novel, you addressed it and showed that even when life is at its worst a person can come back from the bottom and sail to the top!

Mardie and Jett were a couple after my heart. Mardie has a hard time trusting men but after Jett saved her life on one of the worst nights of her life she cant help but open up to him a little .

Jett has seen Mardie at her lowest but instead of thinking her weak he gives her words and support that only empowers her to do better and want better for herself and her child.

When Jett is given to Mardie as a gift to help her fix her first home, Mardie cant help but build a fortress around her heart to keep him out. Unfortunately for her Jett does not give up and skis right past her every defense to not only fix her home but hopefully her heart!

A feel good romance that will leave you wanting more.

Single mom, Mardie Griffin wanted to be anywhere but at working the night of the bachelor auction, especially after she saw who bachelor number one was. She did not want to be anywhere near the boy she had a crush on back in high school. He is the same guy who helped her one tragic night after she was attacked in an alley and left injured. She can’t even look at him without feeling a mix of emotion.

Jett Casey is an Olympic gold medalist and current alpine ski champion. The prize for his highest bidder is a back-country skiing experience or a week of handyman services. His winning bidder turned out to be Ella Grace Emerson.

Little did Mardie know, Ella Grace planned on giving Jett’s handyman services to her to help fix up her house. Jett works hard to make it a home that Mardie will be proud of and her daughter will be safe growing up in. Mardie tries to keep her feelings inside even as Jett continuously flirts with her. How long will she be able to say no before she gives in and takes what she has wanted all of these years?

This is a really sweet story that went by fast and kept me interested the entire time.

World championship skier, part time handyman, Jett Casey can come work on my house anytime. His flirty demeanor and dimples won me over, just like they did for single mom Mardie. Jett and Mardie have a complex history from a couple of years before our story takes place. Mardie is initially reluctant to accept Jett's handyman services that her friend won in a bachelor's auction. Jett won't take no for an answer though, and not only works on the house, he gets Mardie to agree to try bring with him.

I loved the acts of thoughtfulness and kindness used to win her heart. She's the single mom with a dark moment who catches a break. He's the Olympian turned handyman who fixes the little things because he recognizes she's perfect as she is. When novellas like to emphasize passion and Chemistry, this story reminds us that love can be expressed in other ways too-patience, kindness, respect, and thoughtf

If I had to use a word to describe this story it would be "simple". Too simple, in fact, with a very basic, rehashed and clichéd plot, and a cheesy, ordinary romance.
There was no conflict, no depth, no agency...It was just there, not doing anything.

I guess it was an ok read, just kinda meh for me.
Plus, I wasn't a fan of the heroine.

I hope other books in the series will be better.

I'm rounding it up because there was nothing majorly wrong with this story.
Just not my cuppa.

But if you wanna give it a go...

A fun little romance with a Hallmark Channel beginning and ending, although not a Hallmark Channel middle. :)

I enjoy the sweet romance stories, with fun dialogue, but don't care much for those where the latter half of the book is like reading a Penthouse forum story (am I dating myself there?). It's just too ... repetitious. That's a good attribute (well, relentless) for a horror story, but not for romance. At least for me.

In Grey's Saloon, Marietta, they're holding their first ever bachelor auction and this is one of six books concerning the bachelors up for sale. I've enjoyed them all! The auction is to raise money to help Molly Dekker pay for her eleven year old son, Josh, to continue getting the medical treatment he needs after a fall on Copper Mountain has left him in a wheelchair.

The first bachelor to be auctioned was Jett Casey - local hero, gold medal winning Olympic skier, hunk and a genuinely 'good' guy. Friends buy him to carry out much needed repairs on the home of Mardie Griffin - hardworking, bar tending, single Mum to Claire. Little did the friends know that Jett had been her secret crush whilst at school and had also come to her rescue after she was badly beaten up. She's fiercely independent and has little money to spare but her home does need repairing and between them, her friend and Jett convince her to let him help.

Jett never forgot Mardie. He remembers her from High School and from the night of that dreadful incident. He's kind, caring, jokey, fun and hot. She's reticent, sometimes jumpy, reluctant to trust but she does trust Jett. Their developing relationship is portrayed in a meaningful way, making it easy to relate to and empathise with them both as he woos her and she learns to love and trust again.

A fantastic addition to this series. It is great to keep meeting characters from the other books in the series and I still find it incredible that the books are written by different authors but work so well together as a cohesive unit, making this one of my favourite romance series set somewhere I'd now like to visit to see if it is truly as beautiful as portrayed!

Thanks to the author and publishers, too, for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Mantra to self: I must stop requesting for books that are part way through a series. I must stop requesting books that are part way through a series!

This book is my first read by this author and unfortunately it may well be my last. As with such books like this it was very formulaic. There was a broken woman to proud to ask for help, great wealthy friends wanting to help aforementioned female, an alpha male and a charity auction, insta-love and a HEA ending. Enough said.

The alpha male is called Jett, a skier who has had an injury. He is attractive (as they always are) capable and dependable as well as strong and drawn to Mardie who is a single mother recovering from a disastrous relationship (as most women in these types books are). So she is rather reluctant to begin another relationship.

Although there is the ubiquitous insta-attraction the discovery is deliciously slow. And there is obviously a precious history between these two main characters. In short this novel deals with an honest joining of minds. There is no game playing or posturing (such things become irrelevant when there is a child in the mix!).

There are thrills a plenty but for this reader they were far from electrifying! For this reader it was a let-down in more ways than one.

Full Disclosure: I received a free copy from Netgalley for an honest review.

Note: I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley. Any and all opinions of this book are mine and mine alone.

The Bachelor Auction series from Tule Publishing has another winner on its list with Kelly Hunter's What a Bachelor Needs.

This is a lovely romance, and even though the speed at which it develops is quicker than I'm usually keen on, I loved that their connection and their shared story ran deeper and further back than the day of the auction.

Mardie has a real honesty and strength about her, and I loved that she didn't allow herself to become or stay a victim. Jett's a fun, happy guy on the surface, but still waters do run deep with him - he's a sweetheart and giving of himself and his time (and not because he has to, either). The chemistry between them is both genuine, and genuinely hot.

I thoroughly enjoyed their journey to their HEA, and I'm looking even more forward to the rest of the Bachelor Auction series now.

I get this was supposed to be short, but I feel like a big chunk of story was missing.

Jett (hate that name) and Mardie had a sort-of history...lots of wasted potential here. He was a happy-go-lucky skiier (not my fave type of hero), and she was a hard-working single mom rebuilding after an abusive marriage. This could’ve worked, but she went from being strong to stupid and back too quickly (ex. The scene with the bikers in the bar? Totally out of character and ridiculous).

I found that she didn’t behave like a woman who had gone through what she had. Sleeping with Jett within days of meeting, professing love...none of it worked. And for Jett, considering his characterization, it made absolutely no sense why he loved her or wanted her. Absolutely none. This is where a massive amount of info/conversations/interactions were missing.

Interesting story that just fell short - decently written, but just felt unfinished.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This was so very ordinary story. It was so simple that I really don't have anything to comment on.

The plot was very basic guy has a crush on a girl all through high school but he never tells her because their crowds are different, then saves said girl from a bad situation then they meet several years later and all cats come out of the bags and hearts melt.

It was completely cheesy romance there was no real conflict. Except when Mardie but IMO, that caution should have been before .

The characters were all right. They could have been way better with longer scenes and more emotional writing and less building jargon ('coz who cares about those?!!!).

I received this free eARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This was an okay novel. I loved the times where Jett was going out of his way to help Mardie with her home improvements. Because this is a novella this were almost forced before they should have happened and it moved very fast than I thought it should have been.

I do have to say, I loved little Claire. And I loved that Mardie was a pool billiards shark.

Overall this was a cute novella, but not anything spectacular that I found.

Very cute romance with an emotionally wounded heroine and the fearless hero who makes her feel worthy again. And he's one heck of handyman, too! I need a hot guy to remodel my house in 5 days!

I picked this because it's included in the new (to US users) KoboPlus and it's Amy McFadden! Not to mention that single mom is a favorite trope. This is book 4 of multi-author series called, Montana Born Bachelor Auction. I haven't read any of those books, but Hunter also made this book 1 in Montana Bachelors & Babies series featuring all the hunky Casey brothers.

This is perfect when you're in the mood for enough drama and tension to move the story along but what is basically a sweet and steamy novella-length romance. I just adored both Mardie and Jett. She's newly divorced and single mom to a one-year-old while Jett is the town golden boy that she's had a crush on since high school. The "kiss that almost happened" also gives this second chance romance vibes.

When he comes to do work on her fixer-upper home, it's quickly obvious to both of them that there's definitely more. Mardie is reasonably cautious and Jett wins her over with his charm, honesty, and understanding. While things move quickly, it doesn't feel like instalove since they've known each other for years and been through a past ordeal together.

I loved their HEA and am looking forward to Must Love Cowboys next.

Narration:
Again, this was narrator motivated by Amy McFadden. For good reason. She always does a great job with character voices and emotions, plus all the fun & flirty parts. Quick & enjoyable listen.

CW:
Mardie was physically abused by her husband, while not graphically described - it's a theme throughout the book. She also suffers from PTSD.

Must Love Babies is the first book in Kelly Hunter’s wonderful series, Montana Bachelors and Babies. The series introduces us to the Casey Family of Marietta, Montana. This book features the youngest of 5 brothers, Jett. He is an Olympic Gold Medal skier. As the book opens, a bachelor auction is taking place. Jett is one of the bachelors. Mardie Griffin works as a waitress at Grey’s saloon where the auction is being held. She is struggling to pay her bills as a single mom. Her home needs lots of repairs that she hasn’t been able to take care of. Her friends bid on and win Jett. He has offered his services as a handyman. At first Mardie is embarrassed and not wanting to accept charity. However they convince her to let Jett work around her house for the week.

Jett and Mardie each had crushes on the other when they were still in school. Since then, she married and has a baby girl. One night Jett ran into Mardie after she had been attacked and he took care of her. She was a bit embarrassed as it had been her husband. She divorced him and was currently rebuilding her life. As Jett worked on her house they talked and he became very attracted to her. They agree to a no strings fling. However both realize there is something there and don’t want things to end.

This is a romantic, heartwarming story that I loved. I highly recommend it.

Must Love Babies by Kelly Hunter is a quick, easy read. I loved Mardie and Jett. And of course, baby Claire.
Jett Casey was a world champion skier. And Mardie Griffith was a single mother working as a waitress in one of the local bars. Her friends 'bought' Jett in a charity bachelor auction. Originally, there was some kind of a week of skiing, but Jett tore something in his knee and was on doctor's orders not to ski, so he instead of the ski trip, he was auctioned off as a handyman for a week. So, Mardie had him for a week to help her with her run-down house.
She was reluctant at first to accept help from anyone, much less the hot guy she crushed on in high school. But she gave in and let him help with her handyman list.
I really enjoyed this book. Like I said, it was a quick, easy read. Yes, there was sex...not a lot, but it fit in with the story.
Must Love Babies is the first book in a series (not sure how many books) by Kelly Hunter. And if the next book is as good as this one, I will be reading them.
