Arcane Mage #6

Charismatic

Rate this book
Life as a Magical Enginner has never been quite as I expected it would,
but the truth is, I wouldn't change it for the world.

Sure, there have been a lot of obstacles,
My apartment was blown up, I've been kidnapped,
My psycho cousin even tried to have me killed.
And now, my parents are forcing me to marry someone they picked.

However, I also met some pretty amazing people,
Helped AMIA dismantle the resistance,
And even stopped a coup from happening.

But most of all, I found love.

A scientist at heart, T.S. Snow lives in a land far far away, secluded from most authors and readers (rumor has it that if you open your wardrobe you can find her hiding in there trying to take a nap). T.S. has a thirst for learning new languages, even if she is mostly worried about finding out new curse words in them. She has an amazing support system that include a loving boyfriend, her family, friends and her loyal - if completely lazy - dog. When she's not writing, T.S. can often be found causing complete chaos with her friends on social media, inhaling unhealthy amounts of coffee, or napping. Mostly napping.

While I had loved the world that was introduced in the first book and the FMC Charisma/Char's job as a Magical Engineer, the story was unfortunately filled with an over-the-top slow-burn RH relationship that I felt was very weak still by the very end of this last book in the series (as well as other issues). Char and her five men's relationships were ultimately blamed on an irresistible soulmates attraction, which I thought was a very weak plot device for romance as they didn't convince me through their actions why the relationships would last. They only just moved in to live together in the epilogue, and Theo and Logan were finally fully accepted into the harem in the last half of this book. Most of the men had very distinct relationships with Char rather than each other, which is a much different RH dynamic that I'm used to reading and enjoying.

I started skimming the book about 40% in, as I was tired of the excessive monologue about repetitive topics, especially the hangups that still existed about sharing Charisma. I understood the attempt at keeping the story in the romantic comedy genre, but it made all the characters seem super immature and childish rather than fun and entertaining (e.g. Char consistently getting distracted by naked bodies, and Andres being an over-the-top goofball).

I liked that Char worked more with making METs in this book, but we didn't get the juicy details and thought processes that we got in the first book that made me invested in the world. It was mostly a she-did-this and gave-this-to-X dry narration.

The cast was supposedly made of powerful heirs who obtained their positions through winning magical duels, but I felt like they were all rather gentle for men that were supposedly be smart and harsh when required to rule their society.

Major subplots like Necromancers in society and cleaning up the resistance weren't fully resolved by the end, but I guess we'll see what happens in Blair's series. I'd recommend this series for readers interested in a comedic slow-burn RH romance, but I personally won't be revisiting this series.

That’s it?

I’ve really enjoyed this series, up until this book. It fell VERY flat for me. I’m disappointed, I won’t lie. I’m happy Char gets her men and her happy ending but this was so anticlimactic. It felt very much like the author just wanted to have the series over with.

I feel like every single book was rushed and the ending was disappointing compared to the journey it took to get there

Consider this my review for the series since I read them all back to back and don’t remember where one stopped and the next began.

This series is pretty well balanced with romance, plot, and general development. I did like the slow build format where we had a decent amount of time to get to know everyone (although Theo got significantly less relationship time than the others). The series definitely had some funny moments and the story was interesting and kept me reading straight through.

I am a little disappointed that a few things were still unresolved at the end. It was a six book series so… there was time to tie it all up. Each book is fairly short though, so maybe that’s why? I understand the drive for the author to create the spin-off, but I didn’t love that the plot and villains from THIS series go unresolved because they move over into the spin-off. We never get answers to questions like- who is the soul mage helping Ricardo? Who is the Nightshade involved? What’s going on with Marcella (if anything)? The situation with Ricardo is left open. And I was also bummed that we didn’t see any aftermath with Theo’s family and the bindings being removed. That would have been nice. It just felt like a lot to push off into a spin-off (and maybe some of it will never be addressed).

It absolutely felt like the author pivoted in book 5 and 6 to throw some more minor conflicts in to avoid having to have the main conflict throughout the whole series be concluded in book 6. This ended up making book 6 feel like it wasn’t the finale of a series. The conflict in this book is really only in this book, it’s not something the previous 5 books built up to, so it felt anticlimactic.

The writing is okay. At times it’s pretty flat and more informational than descriptive. There are also some pretty annoying writing things that jumped out to me but weren’t enough to make me quit. For example in books 4 and 5 the author writes “but anyway, I digressed” or some minor variation like 10 times or so. It was …a lot. There are quite a few times that she reuses phrases, especially certain actions and internal monologuing that are just really noticeable and took me out of the story. Of course, I read these back to back instead of spread out over the months of publication, so things like this are naturally more obvious to me. If I read them as they were released I probably wouldn’t have noticed.

There is a lot of stream of consciousness in this book, and the main character is somewhat of an acquired taste. She’s got that ‘quirky’ vibe that is sometimes funny and sometimes cringey depending on how much the author is reusing a mannerism or ‘quirk’. I don’t know how else to describe it, but it’s like when something is funny the first time and then it just gets so overused it becomes tired. Also, I still don’t understand the mailbox opossum thing? Maybe I missed a chapter or paragraph explaining it in the beginning? It just started being referenced a lot by book 2 and on my life I have no clue what it means. It felt like an inside joke that I wasn’t in on😅

this is a 5 star read however:

this book really wrapped up 25% of the whole picture and was super frustrating. I know that every reader was wanting this to be a final series and it just felt so rushed. I don’t know if the readers pushed the author into rush writing to get it over with. If Blair’s storyline picks off like I know it will, it didn’t make sense to release a final charisma story without releasing a few of Blair’s and then finishing charisma.

Throughout this series there’s so much more of a bigger picture, so many things brought to light and introduced: the necromancers, the rebellion, the silverstorm’s fall from grace with possibility of losing their head status to a duel, the guys dynamics when all together and ect. The guys had never been all together at any point from a relationship perspective not all under the roof. No day to day living in this new house or day to day living while they were getting the house together for her. I missed the actual resignation of her position at AMIA- how her pseudo dad took it (yes he brought it up in the book but still it was only a thought and not an action at the time it was presented) - that was her life- a huge career in itself and it didn’t get a true end to it. This career led her to where she was in life and it didn’t even get a true closing.

This book brought all of these up and the author said there’d be no cliffhangers- while this wasn’t the emotional cliffhanger that authors do to signal a next book in the series, these unanswered questions felt like a cliffhanger in itself. The cliffhanger is if you want closure you have to read Blair’s book when book 2 finally comes out. And even then you’re not going to get Char’s POV. According to the author that’s the last book.

What I loved about this series was that it was equal parts steamy with depth, and solid characters- a real storyline not muddled with only steam and the steam didn’t take over the storyline when steam was finally introduced. It literally hurts me to say this but this was a super bitter ending to everything that was introduced. There was no closure.

Honestly I feel lied to by the author, she advertised this book on a Facebook readers site as the final book to Char’s happily ever after with no cliff hangers and a completed series. There’s nothing really complete about it. It felt like a rushed book that this author grew bored with writing about this character and completely shorted it.

This capped off the series and it was total let down. I’m a little regretful that I bought all the audiobooks only to have this end on such a craptastic note.

Amazon indicates this book will not be released until September 8th.

Update:
I finally got to read this book and wow...
Another review (by Alice) perfect describes my feeling over this book so I'll keep it short.

I feel like the author just threw some ideas together to end this series so she could focus on something else. A lot was left unresolved and the "magic" that pulled me into the series just fizzled out before this book.

Anticlimax

I've really enjoyed this whole series, but this final book is a bit odd because the most dramatic bits (which are in the middle not at the end) aren't really described, just the after effects on one person. And, there's no climax to the overall story arc, because that's being continued in Blair's story. It felt to me like Char's story just kinda tapers off, right at the moment something steamy is about to happen, and the door just closes...?!
I will definitely read the rest of Blair's books, but I'm feeling a bit 'harrumph' right now 🙁

3.5 rounded up

I enjoyed this, though it didn’t feel like a full HEA that I crave in romances. That’s okay though, they are together, and that matters - it would have been nice to have a bit more depth and lead up to some of the relationships. Ah well. As for non-romantic plot, it’s far from resolved - which makes sense as there are 2 more books featuring a different FMC. I think 2 more?

This wasn't my favorite book in the series. With all the action and adventure in the first 5 books, this one was almost boring. I did enjoy getting more Logan time though.

2.5*

This was very much like book 5, as in, that it's just a little disappointing. There was a lot of skipping of time involved and just telling us what happened which makes me think that the author has just been over this story and wanted to be done with it. I didn't root for the characters as much and I also didn't like that everyone just had to fill their little box. Andres, for example, was just reduced to funny quips. This could have been better but I guess the author was just over it.

Dare I say, the perfect end?!
Ugh. Incredible.

After so many books, I think we can all agree that Char deserves a break from the action and adventure that has seemed to trail after her everywhere she goes.

That can be Blair's challenge now😅

This book is a lot of romance and soft moments between Char and her guys while they iron out what exactly a group relationship looks like.

Its awkward and spicy and a lot of gasping, shock worthy moments mixed with some meh Theo moments, some extra spicy Logan times, and of course the perfect blend of Bast, Andres, and Blaze too.

This is the close of their journey but probably not the last we'll see of them. At least in passing.

This gave me all the gooey feels with some moments I needed immediate cool downs🥵

And while I will never love Theo, I don't haaaaate him. That much.

The finale to Char’s love story was good but I think missed the mark for me in a couple ways. I wish there had been more movement on the baddies but I guess the author was waiting to conclude that confrontation in the spinoff story? I also thought some of the build up was pretty anti-climactic in this one and there were still some answers left unsaid/no resolution in relation with Char which was sad. I will say I am super excited for Blair’s story and will be sad to see these guys go!! Hopefully we get lots of cameos too so we see their progression more.

I think the biggest thing I was sad about was there wasnt enough time for Char to super connect with Logan and Theo, again because of things happening in the previous books and how long it took them to finally get together. The chemistry just wasnt where I would want it to be at the end of the book. I feel like we needed one more to really solidify them as couples and to bring this harem to its fullest potential. I almost gave the story 3 stars because of that. This book is primarily about the romance between Char and her men and we lacked that with 25% of the harem. The narration was good so I rounded up to four stars.

Where the plot was good in book 5 it sort of stalled and just poofed for me in this one. We had the big planning session to go after Theo’s matriarch after what she did to her family and it was over right away, not a lot of back and forth or struggle. I mean they planned well but that was a little fizzle for me. We get back to a steamy and funny story, which was nice too. I loved seeing the dynamics between the different guys and Char. They each bring something to the table for her, allowing different parts of herself to be soothed and let free. She is always hilarious and that was no different in the finale again despite some of the confrontations and tough conversations. I did wish there was more interaction between Char and her bestie after everything that happened. I felt like that wasnt resolved fully and would have been a nice touch for Char’s conclusion.

Narration was good as it was in the other audiobooks. I think they would have been spectacular if this was duet but I understand its more pricey of production and get why not all authors can do it. It was still good, the narrators play their same sex characters so well, it's just not as strong when they swap to the opposite sex, especially the male narrator performing the female parts. I will say they did a good job with the different topics in here. The redemption for Theo, the happiness the group finally gets to share, the hilarity of Miss Alma and the reveals for some of the twists from earlier in the series.

Again, can’t wait to dive into Blair’s story, loved the little hints thrown in this series by the author, we know it's gonna be a wild ride regardless haha.

The world building- six families lead the magical world. The mages use MET which are devices that filter and create their magic. Charisma is one of the heirs but was cast out for being weak. She worked hard to become the best engineer and is now wanted by many families to develop their tec. We soon discover she also works for against the resistance as an engineer.

Charisma FMC- Charisma is a mage and has small amounts of elemental magic. She's a gamer and a magical engineer. She's clumsy and falls a lot! Her rambling was too much sometimes.

The harem:
Bastille/ Bast- his magic is necromancy and he's also Char's best friend and fellow gamer.
Andres- Andres is an arcane heir and is good with illusion magic. He's the joker of the harem.
Theo-an arcane heir, red hair and an ex that broke char's heart. He also can speak and control ghosts.
Blaze-an arcane heir and has rune mage. Doesn't like to share.
Logan- an older arcane heir, very serious and controlling. Logan hires Char for her tec. His magic is dark matter.

Annie- Theo's younger sister and friends with Charisma.

Christian- her boss for ARIA (magical CIA)

This needed to be longer, all the books were too short. I would have liked more depth from the men. I loved the world building and the plot. I hated Char's inner dialogue and rambling. I would have also liked an ending?

We literally don't get an ending to the plot? What about the Resistance and the fact that one of her boyfriends is a necromancer? What about how their relationship would play out to the press?

I would have liked more from the relationships too, we only meet one guys parents and we get no backstory's.

Overall the world building was unique that's why it was rated high.

Fun

This series had a good pace going. There wasn't insta-love. The author did a good job of developing the relationships between the characters. I liked that Charisma was really smart and strong, but still kinda clutzy. The only one of her guys that I wasn't really "attached" to was Logan. That relationship took a little too long to come about, so it was harder to think of him as a boyfriend at the same level as the other boyfriends (hopefully that makes sense).

There were a few things in the story that I didn't like how they ended. One was how Theo let Esme off the hook (for the most part). What she did was evil and she deserved punishment. Second, Richard is never found and we don't see him punished. Nor do we find out who the other bad soul-binder is. Maybe there will be a follow up series? Third, we don't really know how any of the other families feel about the harem. What did Blaze's family think? Logan's? Finally, I thought the ending was really abrupt. It was like the author got tired, after putting so much into the rest of the story, and just quickly wrote up an ending. We got an epilogue, but it really didn't help make you feel like the story came together any better. It's a shame, because the author did a good job until the end. The ending was fine, it just wasn't great. It seemed rushed.

Overall, the series is fun and worth reading.

I’m not sure how to feel. This is one of my favourite series but I feel I don’t have closure. And I get that Blair’s story will follow this but we didn’t really get closure with Chars parents. Blair was totally missing from this book when she was a big part of the others. I missed Chars kick ass fighting skills in this one and her smarts. Where’s the uncle? And the war? It’s like all the major plot lines are still very very much in the air. I also felt there was no way near enough movement on the Necromancer prejudice too. Bast was just in the background on this. Minimal fight scenes. Nice amount of heat. I honestly thought Char’s power would unlock or something once she got all of her soul mates too? I don’t know. And the front cover is beautiful and kick ass but it shows her with the bow and arrow MET and this didn’t make an appearance? I feel terrible for saying all these things because I love Char and her men. I feel we did get robbed of at least one group sex scene. We didn’t get to see Logan is all his dom glory and how that would play out with Basts alpha vibes. It was still a fun read which is why I gave it a 4.

Well..

Alright ill start from the top and work my way through my feelings. I enjoyed this series. It was funny, had a decent plot, steamy scenes, and I liked the characters for the most part. The story of Char and her guys was cute but it didn't seem to have much depth. We get to meet all the characters and they get their hea but we never really get a lot from the relationship. Its just oh I've always like char and then bam they are together, with the exception being Theo who was with her previously. What happened with the resistance was kinda anticlimactic. They posed such a huge threat and then it was just gone, apart from one of the villains who was never caught(since the story continues I'm assuming it happens later). This whole last book just seemed to drag a bit because nothing new really happens except for the whole relationship fully solidifying and one villain is caught. There was just so much extra drama and rambling added in that it felt a bit forced. But hey maybe that just my opinion. All in all it wasn't a bad story. I adored the humor and stuff, I just wish it was a bit more developed for it being through 6 books.

I have to be honest….

So, I have to be honest….I’m a little disappointed with this one. I’ve really enjoyed the his series, Snow continuing to impress me with her storytelling & character dynamics. But this one…it just…kinda stopped. What I mean is the pacing wasn’t great, plus so much feels unresolved for this to be the conclusion to the series. I get Blair’s story may continue some of the storyline, but that just leaves this one feeling incomplete. It started out great, but after about the first 60% or so, I kept glancing at the % complete and thinking how there was no way everything could get wrapped up keeping at the pace things were going. And I was right. The big conflict/resolution at the very end felt super rushed and just thrown in, and then like I said, so many things left unresolved and unanswered. Still loved the characters and most of the book, but just a little disappointed. Overall I think my rating would have been three stars, but have so much residual love for the story and characters, I ended up giving it 4 stars.

Im just going to do a whole series review

I've read all 6 books. And although it started off intriguing it just got soooo boring by book 4. 6 was the hardest to get through. Char was made out to be a kick ass, good at fighting and amazing at MET duels but we never really got to see that side of her and their were plenty of opportunities. Book 6 ended up making up for the fact that 1-5 didnt really develop her relationships that well. The show down with Cara was boring! There was just so much rambling in her head that half the time I'd have to go back to see what was even said. I always skipped the sex scenes as they all felt like fillers I wasnt feeling the love in this between the boys and Char in this Harem, like yes they said they loved her but the connection wasnt written very well. Overall below average, and for something aimed at 18+ very juvenile. I wanted to like this book but i was skipping pages by book 5 just to see how things ended. Cant comment on the hot scenes i skipped them all.

Good

Charismatic brings Charisma’s storyline to an end: as she finally gets with all of her men, and solves a few ongoing problems! There were quite a few loose ends tied up in this one, although no hints towards Blair’s issues.

This was an entertaining series, and I thoroughly enjoyed Charisma and her mailbox opossum life. She’s a strong, quirky character, and her men were ultimately the balance she needed. She proved quite well, that you didn’t need to be strong in magic to be a powerful force for good, and I’m glad we got to see this in action so many times.

Since this is book six, it’s pretty obviously not a standalone, and you do need to read the rest of the series. Don’t worry though, if you’re a reverse harem fan, or an urban fantasy fan, then you might just enjoy this tale, and the magical world in which it is set.

A thoroughly entertaining read for those who love RH fantasy.

This whole series was a 5 star read except the last one only because it felt rushed and I wanted more.

I love the individual relationships and the whole concept of this series was so interesting - I really loved it!

But..
I wanted more time with Char and Theo. We only see them be a “couple” again the last 10% ish of the last book of a 6 book series. And this was her first love, it just took too long for them to come together.
More time with Char and Logan, as well as Logan with the group. I felt he kinda go thrown in but we didn’t get much about his dynamic in the group or relationship with Char.
I wanted to see more time of the 6 of them in a relationship, living together, etc. this may be spoiler *** in the epilogue the guys show Char their new home, but we never got to see them actually living all together, learning the dynamics of the group, game nights together..

Loved the series just wanted more!

The first book in the series was interesting especially with the chemistry with Logan.
After that, all the 5 books try and fail to be funny, witty and quirky. It failed to make it seem like there is some good plot with slow burn romance.
I find the books to be boring. In my opinion books failed in the plot where nothing actually happens, nothing is funny and romance is non existent even counting the number of times each main character is mentioned as great, funny, and just fantastic. The book fell into the category of tell and not show - as in write pages and pages of good qualities of main characters; but never showing them. And the recap of everything that happened in the previous books is just irritating.

The villains are comically inept (and not in a fun way), and the story does not inspire anything in the reader other than deep boredom. Where is the struggle, the seemingly insurmountable trouble and conflicts?

oh my gosh, i love them so much it hurts!!

i've been so excited for this book, not only because it would be the final one but also because i really wanted to read how charisma and theo would go back together, and, of course, how she would be with logan as well. i felt the end was a bit rushed and left some questions without answers like her relationship with her parents, where's ricardo? (although i think the answer for this one is in blair's book), is she gonna have a baby of each of them? the parents of the heirs agreed with the relationship? and a question i have on my mind since the first book: what the hell happened between char and marcella and does logan knows about it? anyways, there's more i could ask but i guess my point is, even without answers for some things i still loved this book very much and i'm gonna miss them a lot

The final book

I am glad to know that Arcane mage world will continue through Blair's story next. I hope we get to see these characters make appearances there.

Okay, so about this series....There was few mistakes in terms of story telling, like the slow build between the guys and Charisma wasn't that smooth. They were either breaks in their story or sometimes a character is just missing for too long and Charisma didn't have enough interaction with them. Logan's character had potential but he wasn't written enough. Theo and Charisma should've had more time together. Bastian was forgotten towards the end. We didn't see him much. Then, the group scenes. It would've been nice if we knew how/if the guys all liked it or not, especially since Blaze wasn't ready for it.
But, overall it was an enjoyable read.

Re read this series so that I could read the last two installments, and enjoyed every moment of it just as much as I did the first and second times. Such a lovely series- from the plot, to the characters, to the emotion, to the steam.

This series follows Charisma, a bad ass, heart warming, and overall down to earth mailbox oppossum who is so utterly unique but so very loveable. It was really enjoyable how none of the relationships felt forced, instantaneous or weird, and the side characters had a lot of depth. Also love the unique magic system with METs, different types of magic, and no "big bad" enemy: the plot was realistic in the world and I loved how everything came full circle. No loose ends in this writing!

Lovely, lovely, lovely. I should read again for a comfort read in a little while. 1000% recommend for a paranormal fantasy, with a splash of rh and a feel good vibe.

Fantastic end to the series

I have really loved reading all the books 9n the”Arcane Mage” series and Char is such a kickass FMC who lives life to the full.
So pleased that we see her finally find her way back to her first love and also add Logan to her harem. The way all the guys get on with each other and joke around after initial awkwardness is a pleasure to read. The characters are all so well written, I’m jealous of Char, after all the heartbreak it is so good to see her get her happy ending. I so want my own MET after reading this, another awesome series, sad it’s finished really.

Loved this conclusion

I loved returning to the mailbox oppossum world! This was a perfect conclusion to Chars story, with the relationships with her guys and manipulative parents/grandparents being the focus rather than action sequences. I love that Char didn't turn into an impressive action hero type character by the end of this series. She stayed true to herself, and didn't need to be wickedly powerful to still be an entertaining and engaging majn character. I'll miss being in her head in future stories in this world but I'm looking forward to more of Blair and any glimpses we can see of Char and her guys in their future together
