With Pop possessed and wreaking havoc as Bee Pop, Koichi must push his Quirk to the limits to try to save her. The pressure is on, because if Pop won’t fulfill the duplicitous Number 6’s plans, this evil villain is more than willing to sacrifice her. The chaos downtown has also drawn the attention of Endeavor, the fiery number two hero, and his scorched-earth methods of dealing with trouble make no distinction between villain and vigilante!
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Vol. 11 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next ten chapters (82–91) of the on-going manga series.
The first half of the tankōbon has Kōichi Haimawari as The Crawler manages to save Kazuho Haneyama as Bee☆Pop as she was shot in the back by Rokuro Nomura. Haimawari manages to catch Haneyama, but is given chase by Nomura disguised as a hero. As Haimawari tries to avoid Nomura attacks, he encounters Enji Todoroki as Endeavor, who thinks he is a villain and starts attack him. Eventually, he manages to save Haneyama with help from Nemuri Kayama as Midnight, but learns that Nomura is actually Number 6 of the Villain Factory, who tells Haimawari that he would kill Haneyama and then him for ruining his plans.
The second half of the tankōbon deals with a story that happened seven years ago in Osaka. There, hidden in a parking structure, an illegal underground fighting ring known as the Underground Masquerade is taking place. The spectators, all of them hiding their faces under masks, watch brutal fights in which everything is allowed to win, from weapons to the use of Quirks. Because of this, it is normal for the fighters to need medical attention due to their wounds, but there is also knowledge of some fighters missing. Iwao Oguro then as High-Speed Hero: O'Clock goes undercover as The Ripper to investigate.
Hideyuki Furuhashi has written this tankōbon. It concludes the arc of the mind-controlled Kazuho Haneyama with her being rescued, but convalescing and a worried Kōichi Haimawari protecting her from Number 6, who has promised to kill her, before killing him. It also begins a flashback story when Iwao Oguro was the superhero named High-Speed Hero: O'Clock as he goes undercover to find missing people who fought in an unsanctioned and illegal fighting ring.
All in all, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, Vol. 11 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.
Oh hey! This new story was good! We had to finish up the old dumb story where after 8-9 volumes suddenly no one remembers or trusts our heroes considering them the bad guys who should be hunted down for "crimes". Even characters that knew that Pop and Cruller were good guys. It is just bad. Though focusing on the folks the heroes helped back in the day is an improvement. Minus stars.
The flashback story on the other hand is really good, we have a story back in the day with Master with powers, with a young skinny Fatgum (who does not stick around long enough), with Kendo Rappa (from the fight with Fatgum and Red Riot) who is still / always has been looking for that "Death Match" but here gets a little character development. There was also an early Tiger Bunny or whatever school girl they were calling her in this. So far this has been a good story. It hints more at whatever is going on with the early building of the League of Evil and their collecting of quirks/powers. Bonus stars!
This story is definitely linking more and more into the main series, and this volume confirmed a couple of my theories.
We pick up right where we left off, with Pop falling from the air after she was shot by Number 6, and Koichi rushing in to save her before she can self-destruct, due to the Queen Bee inside of her.
Number 6 is a very interesting villain. We've seen that he's not entirely human in the sense that he was made in a lab, and because of that, he's desperate for an identity. He idolises the original O'Clock (who we now know goes by Knuckleduster), and has a twisted dream to become the new O'Clock, O'Clock II, using his Quirk and dastardly schemes to make Koichi and Pop appear to be the villains, whilst he rises as a hero.
Koichi, on the other hand, is a true hero. He has the heart and spirit for it, and he's only a lowly vigilante. He's on par with some of the pros, I'd say. You can see how amazing he'd be as a professional and with extra training. His Quirk has expanded so much, and in this volume he gets yet another Quirk expansion with another ability added on to his arsenal that he already has. His Slide and Glide Quirk was made out to be a silly and simple Quirk at first, but it's transformed into something pretty epic at this point.
Endeavor throws a spanner in the works of Koichi and Soga's gang's plan, as he sees all three of them as villains, Number 6 and Koichi and Pop. He's intent on putting them down, too hot-headed to wait for an explanation before he attacks them with his flames. Koichi doesn't let that stop him, though. He's determined to save Pop, risking his own safety to ensure hers, and once she's out of harms way, he and his gang of friends all stand guard to protect her, from both heroes and villains.
Then there's a flashback to an important event seven years prior which involves an old favourite that we haven't seen in a while. Knuckleduster works with the police to infiltrate an illegal fighting ring. He's a pro-hero at that point, O'Clock, with his Quirk in tact. He goes undercover in the get-up he currently wears, pretending to be a participant in one of the matches in order to investigate a suspected drug trade from within. He has his Quirk and it's so odd to see him use it, as we're so used to him being Quirkless. You can see that he has complete mastery over it, though, confirmed when he later fights Number 6, using his own knowledge about his Quirk to defeat him.
Although it's a serious mission, there's plenty of fun to be had. Familiar faces from the main series make an appearance, both a hero and a villain. I won't spoil who they are (although if you just look at the volume's cover, you'll know who I'm referring to) but we get a team up that we didn't know we needed. Two eager fighters, one a villain in the future and one a younger version of a pro-hero, both fight by Knuckleduster's side to stop the chaos as all things go wrong. It's similar to what we've seen happen before, where Quirk go haywire and leave people out of control, but something different happens this time that's very similar to something villainous that we've seen in the main series (around season 3 of the anime, or the Forest Training Camp arc). A mysterious enemy appears, which looks the same as a creature from the main series that works for an almighty villain.
Overall, this was a pretty exciting volume. It's getting darker and linking more to the events of the main series, in particular with its villains, and I'm both looking forward to and dreading what will happen next.
- koichi flies!!! - i like the idea that the villain who is cobbled together out of nothing is defeated by a "hero" who is seen as nothing like so chef's kiss - love the underground fighting ring idea and the inclusion of rappa - mirko!!1 young fatgum!!! i love to see it - kurogiri........T-T - ofc ofc ofc this is all afo's doing - random hooded person makes me think that it's no.6?? dunno or another nomu-like thing - "call number one! we need all might!" goes so hard for me
A flashback arc that shows just how grandpa fist had his quirk stolen. Somehow, I’m not surprised it’s because he infiltrated an underground fight club. It’s interesting to see just how he fought with his quirk as opposed to now. So from what I understand, his quirk means that his brain works at a faster speed than everyone else’s. It uses up more oxygen to accelerate at the speed he does. I think? It’s an interesting twist on the speedster power set.
We get another surprise appearance in Mirko, who is not a hero yet but a student. She still loves fighting a bit too much and crashes the fight club. Then grandpa fist recruits her to help escape and get help in the form of All Might lol. We come to learn that All for One is behind this scheme. The fight club, the drugs, and stealing people’s quirks. Kurogiri is here as well which just makes me sad (iykyk). Also I think the weird nameless dude with he extendable limbs is our current villain (the one that looked like the Pillsbury doughboy). It’s pretty wild. I didn’t think this operation went so far as All for One.
I’m really enjoying this arc. I’ve been curious as to how grandpa fist lost his powers and I’m glad I’m getting those answers.
I like Master but at this time with things going in the present, I don’t want a flashback of his history! I need more information about Pop Step and the Crawler!
The backstory was okay, but eh. Master hasn’t shown up in quite some time.
Finishing off Bee-Pop plot and a knuckleduster flashback.
I wanted to read this ASAP because I was stressed for my girl Pop, but this wasn’t really much of a solution I wanted. But I guess if this is ending in 4 more books, they’re gonna wait a bit to wrap it up, which is fair. Turns out Pop was shot, but with another drug not for real, it caused the bees to go into explosion overdrive forcing Koichi to get her to safety even faster. I legit cannot express how impressed I am with our boy in these last two volumes, he has grown SO much! His abilities have become legit so cool and impressive. Remember when he only used to be able to crawl along hence his stupid name?! Now he’s somehow honed it to slide quickly, pop around, shoot a sort of projectile, and even get enough force to kind of fly! Also he can generate a forcefield mid air to launch himself, like?!? I’m just so proud!!!
Nomura aka Rock aka O’clock II apparently, the scarred villain, makes himself seen to Koichi and tries to fuck with him in some grand scheme of letting his bees destroy them so he can pretend to save them as a hero. Again, I do not get him, the dude is certifiable, but he severely underestimates Koichi and then gets caught up in endeavor trying to attack the “villains”. He gets legit burnt to a crisp by accident in one of endeavor’s fire attacks (my guy is legit unhinged 😂 this is the fucked up dude who ruined his family in his lowest point for sure) to the point where rock is now like half-skeleton looking like Two Face from the dark knight! I was like, oh fuck…well he WAS hot! He super monologues at Koichi about fake heroes and how he’s gonna kill them, but for now leaves, he’s so fucking weird.
SO a confusing point is we’ve gotten flashes to o’clock before and this rude refers to himself as the same name but the 2nd and now we learn the OG o’clock was knuckleduster aka Koichi’s master, which I cannot recall if we knew that before now but was a wild reveal. I kind of assumed he had something to do with this villain, especially with him targeting master’s daughter, but it’s kind of crazy and I’m really interested to see how that plays out.
They do get Pop to a hospital and save her, but we’re unsure of the condition she’ll be when she wakes. I love that Soga and his reformed thugs are guarding her and even when Tsukauchi tries to press them for more details and how much he bristles with this vigilantism, I do love they don’t back down since as of now they’ve done nothing wrong. I get why vigilantism is bad, but I just gotta root for our boys and hope Tsukauchi just leaves them alone to do what they need.
This ends with a flashback of knuckleduster from like 7 yrs ago, who we now realize is og o’clock and was undercover trying to infiltrate some fighting/drug ring. He fake fights Rappa, I remember him from the Overhaul arc in MHA, he’s the one who fought Kirishima and Fatgum (also we get a shot of young, slimmer Fatgum UGH the love of my life omfg he’s so stinking cuuuuuuttteeeeeeee I waannnttttt). It’s classic Rappa to track him down saying he didn’t earn his win so he gives KD half the money and wants a rematch, he’s so weird but I respect how much he loves strength. Then teen Mirko shows up, calling herself tiger bunny, and the 3 form a sort of team when a rando villain shows up causing problems. I do not know who he is nor if we’re supposed to know, he has these muscle tendons that regenerate and stretch, I think the muscle villain from the camp arc had something similar but they have nothing else in common as of now, so unsure if he’s who that is. We see flashes of All for One and Kurogiri watching and it ends with Mirko getting out and calling for All Might to help them.
Of course I love All Might and will be glad to see him, but I’m interested to see how this all shakes out and if it’s really all that relevant to this story. AFO has always seemed like more of an overarching big bad for this spinoff than an actual presence so it’s interesting to see him brought in so randomly. While I’m curious about KD’s past, especially as he’s the OG o’clock and to see how he becomes the vigilante we know, I just want to get back to Koichi’s plot, but I guess I just have to enjoy what I have while I have it. We’ll see how this all shakes out.
So roughly the first 80-some pages of this volume kind of wrap up(?) the efforts of Koichi and Co. from the previous volume to rescue Pop Step and get her treatment to have the Queen Bee parasite removed. Outside of his part in her rescue and encounter with Number Six (whom I still prefer to call Sixxy,) Koichi lays low in this volume, and we get a tiny bit more focus on Soga, as well as the police response to the situation. (Props to Midnight for coming in clutch to try to help Kazuho; I'm not a fan of Midnight in the slightest, but it's nice to see one particular instance in which she's got such a positive and helpful relationship with someone.) Speaking of Sixxy, we do get quite a bit more with him, and he's such a fascinating antagonist the more we see and learn about him!
The remaining pages of the volume are dedicated to the events of seven years ago from present, involving an underground illegal fighting ring that O'Clock is looking into, as part of his mission to track down quirk-enhancing drug smuggling. We get early appearances of Rappa and the girl who becomes Mirko as they get roped into the whole thing, a little cameo from a young rookie Fatgum, and more ties to AFO and the early stages of setting up the League of Villains.
I'll be honest, I went into the second part of this volume expecting to not give a care, but this series continues to surprise and engage me with its writing at every turn. It's engrossing, clever and just downright gaddamn fun! Everything about it is a treat that feels tailor-made for me, and I love it both as an installment in the world of MHA and as its own particular thing. I suppose my one major gripe at the moment is that Kazuho's skintone is suddenly way darker when she's Bee Pop, her villain phase, and then she suddenly reverts to being very pale later when that's said and done. Gotta admit I'm squinting at you a little there on that one, Betten Court.
the best so far cant wait for the next one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lives changed forever and wounds both external and internal are left in the wake of the Pop Step incident. Now Crawler is out to protect his friends as well as figure out what is happening behind the scenes. This volume truly reminds me of the flag-ship title My Hero Academia in the aspect that something I would never predict happening within the story does and it truly flips the world upside down. I believe it shows that the series is willing to take risks, and as weird as it is probably to be reading this, most stories don’t want to take the risks I am seeing in both My Hero Academia and My Hero Academia Vigilantes. They could alienate fans and sour them, but I believe the payoff has continued to outweigh the risk. Not knowing the next step on a book which takes place before the main title is something that I believe is underappreciated by far too many. Another story device that maybe is or isn’t intentional but each and every volume allows further backstory on characters from My Hero Academia. Sometimes it is very revealing and other times simply further expands what the reader probably already predicted or understood as their backstory. I think that is an excellent use of the book and also assists with breaks between Kiochi having to take center stage.
I really don't understand why this series keeps shooting itself in the foot, there was some superb stuff going on and then it just goes on a tangent, which is no way related to the main story.
Like we had some truly awesome with Pop Star being shot and Crawler trying to save her, with Overclock 2 on their tale but then we get kind of a climax and like you expect it to be a finale but instead they move onto a cagefighting thing. With Knuckleduster, which is completely irrelevant and he's got powers now which is quite bizarre. Did he not care that his apprentices were essentially trying not to die, he was after overclock 2 and tried to kill him but for some reason he was nowhere to be seen in that bit of the story. Instead he's entered a cage match and now all for one and his lackeys are targeting it.
It just doesn't flow well, as I said you have some great moments in this story but for some reason it always needs to focus on what out heroes where doing prior to the main story instead of actually doing something with the characters they've established in this series, it's just so frustrating.

Fun stuff - the battle with Bee Pop concludes, and then it's flashback time as we get to see what I assume is the original downfall of O'Clock. I do wish the divide between arcs landed between volumes rather than giving half of two stories, but that's been a manga issue for a long time so whatever.
I do enjoy how Vigilantes manages to loop into the original series without contradicting anything. Seeing some characters I never expected to see outside of the OG goes to show that nothing's really off limits as well.
As much as I love seeing Koichi and pop one of the big things I really love about this series is the characters from the main series that haven't had a great deal of time on paper showing up and giving more of what made them awesome! Some great familiar faces popping up, can't wait to read more!!
I enjoyed the flashback part of this volume the most, which is something I never thought I'd say. Although my enjoyment was mostly due to the cameos from original MHA characters, though, so...yeah. Still not all that interested in what's going on with the Vigilantes storyline.
I like the background we get in this installment! Not only do we get more depth into other heroes and history, we finally get some answers that the story has been building to for a while now.
