A Crystal Dagger

Rate this book
Against her better judgment, Violet fell in love. And she thought she couldn’t be happier. But there’s just one problem. She’s got a tiny secret— a kiss with another witch. One that she really wants to pretend never happened. She knows she loves her lycanthrope boyfriend and would never want to hurt him . . . but why does that kiss still haunt her? As if that wasn’t enough for one witch, a mysterious new coven has moved to Brooklyn. A beautiful, fabulous coven that seems a little too perfect, a little too polished . . . what are they hiding? And why are they so curious about her coven? ***If you like paranormal romance, urban fantasy, witches, and shifters, you'll love A Crystal Dagger . It’s a quick, fun read full of witchy magic and steamy romance set against the backdrop of New York City. Although it’s a sequel to A Violet Wind , you can read it as a standalone.

Even if I like close to nothing about a book, I will convince myself of something that was enjoyable and give it 2 stars because I like to think that every book has at least ~some~ good qualities. But man... I really could not for this one.

Unpopular opinion: I actually thought that the first book was better than the second. I didn't really understand the extreme hate campaign against A Violet Wind, which I rated a solid 3 stars for a fun time. Sadly, I cannot say the same about its sequel.

To say that I was confused more than half of the time would be an understatement. There is absolutely no recap, we just jump straight back into the story. Not even a mention of the MANY characters' descriptions to freshen the mind, other than Jackson's silver eyes and chest hair that she runs her hands over during their bland cardboard canoodling.

All of the characters annoyed me. There is not a single likeable character in this book because none of them are developed at all. In fact, nothing about this book feels developed given its length, which is stunningly short considered the story this author is trying to pull off. We have a stereotypical coffee shop wolf boy who has no backbone, the most random plot that comes out of nowhere that gives some relevance to the characters being witches, and a love triangle in which the queer woman is the one who gets the short end of the stick. Because silver eyes. And wolfy mating. How could one ever compete?

This is literally written like Wattpad fanfiction. There's nothing about the prose that makes you want to continue reading, and some of the grammar and sentence structure is just downright weird. The several misplaced quotations combined with the feeling that there was minimal editing prior to publishing makes you think this author has no editor, or simply just publishes their first drafts as they are.

Had hope that Earnshaw would be a hidden gem of an author and was planning on reading future publications, but unfortunately, the journey ends here.

I didn't enjoy this one just as much as A Violet Wind, I think it was just too wordy, we got a lot of unnecessary details of the characters lives, like I didn't need to know exactly what they ordered for every course of a meal.
Although I did like how it was a lot more supernatural than the first book. The first one was more about relationships and this one seemed to involve a lot more magic.
I still think these books would make a great TV show.

This book is great! I can see the changes that Kit made and the growth/ improvement is very apparent. All I can say is I will keep watching for her new releases and I know she is going to be a STAR.

I enjoyed the first book of this series way more if I am being honest. I think that there were too many infos at some points that weren't really necessary. But I liked that this book had some more detail about the magic and wasn't just more focused on their relationships.
