The final installment in the Building the Circle series starts with a kiss.
Sure, premonitions of the end of the world haunt the Time Walker. Someone has it out for the Mistress Life. Pandemonium and Lady Earth are homeless. The arrival of Love and Fear's babies is imminent. There's a wedding to plan and parents to be wooed.
But, book six starts with a kiss and an ancient heartbreak. Can Ethan and Micah sort through their tangled histories to find modern-day love? As the final Trellis singleton, will Luke meet his match?
As the circle closes, the Trellis family must stand together to protect what matters most to them—love, life, family, and humanity.
I'm reviewing this series in one go because I pretty much inhaled it over the first 3 weeks of September during Level 4 lockdown and I honestly can't remember which things happened in which books.
I do know that, despite the fact that I loved the worldbuilding and overall series story arc of the Trellis family building their circle (and the various ways that the paranormal and psychic stuff shows up in the series), my favourite book was actually #1, which had VERY little paranormal going on at all. But there was just something about Matty and Jake that felt... better developed and more relatable than any of the other characters from later books.
(Also, the opening scene was freaking hilarious and had me continuously laughing out loud from the second or third paragraph. And I really, really loved the sweariness and the diversity of the characters)
I also quite enjoyed Adrian and Lucy's book (partly because anger being used constructively is a trope I really love, and Adrian's journey to accepting himself is an interesting one).
After that, I won't lie, the books blur, and my memory of them is more of a single story that takes four books to tell, where the individual romances and book-level plots take a back seat to the series arc. It kept me reading, but I don't think I'd say I enjoyed the later books as much as the first two.
In particular, the Noah/Luke/Talise thing SERIOUSLY annoyed me - probably because it hit all my "FFS would the three of you just sit down and have an honest conversation like grown-ass adults for five minutes?" triggers. Also, I don't know what it was about the Sam/Addy stuff that just didn't work for me from the start... I think Sam may be one of those characters who makes a good supporting character in someone else's book (he was great in Jake and Matty's story), but doesn't quite work for me when he's the star of the show, which is the case in Books 3 and 4.
All up, I did enjoy the series: it was EXACTLY the kind of light, mindless escapism I needed and wanted throughout Level 4 lockdown, and I'm definitely planning on reading the spinoff series at some point, although I need a bit of a change of pace before I do. I feel like if I stepped back and tried to analyse the books in more depth, I'd find a heap of things to critique, but I really don't want to - I'm happy to just enjoy them for what they were: a chance to escape to a warm, comfy , safe world where people care about each other, have each others' backs, and actually use their powers to make the world a better place.
Whoop, made it through a whole 6 books. Haven't managed that since murderbot. Like Noah, I wasn't looking forward to Luke's story. It felt weird knowing he has books after this one. It felt like a close, but it also felt like the majority of the story was hijacked to set the scene for Luke's adventures. The rest was little family moments, Micah's freakouts added to Sam's and taking his name.
I did like Ethan and Micah, although it was background like Beth/Henessey, Will/Emma. They were sweet together. The name thing felt redundant since the answer was there in the beginning, it felt more like how are you not getting it yet. Micah was still my fave character, stopping Sam, training the others and generally feeling like a cinnamon roll.
A little disappointed it was the girls that got kidnapped, yay for Noah finding his strength. The colours thing felt like a Hodor moment. I didn't like any of Matty's family, apart from Randa, but the James beat down was satisfying. It was a fun ride with HEA all round. I am curious whether Luke is going to end up with a harem.

Probably one of the silliest series I've ever read. The first book was the best, the rest basically the same story with different character names. Everyone yelled, smirked, yelled, cried, yelled, pouted and whined. And did I mention the yelling?? EVERYONE. ALL. THE. TIME. If I had a nickel for every time someone yelled, I would get my money back in full. Not recommended. Did you hear me, or should I YELL???
I read a lot of Kindle unlimited series and this is one of the best I have come across. Especially for a new author, the characters, even those not in the the limelight, are complex and fully hashed out. Each book has a focus and allows you further information on not just the pair getting together but the others you have already gotten to know. The fluidity of the narrators from book to book keeps you on your toes and kept the boredom I usually experience when reading a larger series at bay. I lost an entire week to these six books and am thrilled at the finish, which closes the storyline while allowing more to come. Awesome book.
I really enjoyed this whole series. This is the final book of this series but not worried as the next series pretty much continues the first series. The characters make this series for me as well as the romances. Each of the nine sibling s needed their mate and get them. These books are full of humor, romance and has a bit of suspense thrown in the mix. Heartwarming stories with a bit of spice added in. Very unique and worth the read.
Okay, before you start this book, you need to get a pencil and paper and be ready to diagram when the action starts... Because it can get very confusing very quickly! Keep in mind, the main characters consist of the Trellis family of 10 (2 parents and 8 siblings). By the 6th book, all of the siblings have life partners, so that is a total of 18 main characters, plus the friends, families, and children that come along with the 8 life partners... I think I counted 23, and that doesn't include the bad guys. PLUS, most of the characters have a "power", and sometimes it is more important to know the power than it is to know the person... Just to add another layer of confusion. The beginning is a little slow because it is all relationship development. When the action starts, it is unexpected and it just keeps building from there. The only thing that slows down the action is the need for those pesky diagrams and the new information you have to know when all these characters and powers start interacting. The resolution is very satisfying. And by the end you have met new " beings" that will have their own spin-off series. Can't wait to start those!!
Just finished all 6 books of the first series about the Trellis family, (plus the novella at the end) and can't wait to start the next series called "Peacekeeper's Harmony". These books give you pretty much everything you'd want in a really good story. The stories are intricate, well written, and entertaining. The characters are easy to fall in love with and the dialog is perfect, giving you laugh out loud moments over a family comment because you're in on the joke! It's got humor, love, and siblings being siblings, with a few steamy scenes sprinkled in. The plotline is unique and weaves together seamlessly a lot of intertwined stories. One thing to consider is that there are A LOT of characters in this book, most in the majority of scenes together. It's a family, Hank and Darla with their dog Roscoe and their 9 kids and a Hennessy. If you have difficulty keeping a lot of people straight, you may not enjoy these as much, but give it a try. Make a chart, whatever you need, because it's a really awesome series. They're heartwarming, loving, and still have excitement and terror and everything else you'd want to have in a story. Thank you, Maggie M. Lily. May the Trellis family live forever! 😁💜✋🏼🐺
When I started reading The Call in May 2020, I had no idea I would be so drawn into a paranormal world that after six books I would only want more books by this writer, and so happy that she has lots more stories to tell about the Trellis siblings and their better halves!
Paranormal was never my ‘thing’, but the humor in Maggie Lily’s writing definitely puts it a class above what I tried before. You laugh, you cry, you howl (with laughter), hold your breath, cross your fingers and hope all ends well...
If you are looking for fun reads to escape from real life for a while, look no further! Start reading The Call, which is more ‘normal’ than ‘paranormal’ and continue with this series in order, as with each book the story develops a bit more. Jumping straight into book 6 would make you miss out on a lot.
I love this book! With The Close we come full circle on developing and understanding Sam and Addy’s Circle, the Trellis siblings have all found love, and with Luke and his new girlfriend foundations are laid for new ‘adventures’ awaiting us, and I for one cannot wait!
Oh man am I glad that I stumbled across this series! It has definitely found it’s way onto my favorites list. I can’t wait to reread it from the beginning now that I know all the characters better and how it ends, so I can pick up any tidbits I may have missed.
I’m not ready to say goodbye to these people, but I also definitely felt like it was a satisfying conclusion. This series is such a hilarious, fun ride, and I was drawn in from page one. It was brilliantly written, with the first book only subtly hinting at the psychic paranormal and leaving you wondering what is going on. I not only fell in love with the characters but had to jump into book two to see what the paranormal part was going to be about. Book two jumped right into the deep end, and you learned all of the information right along with the characters. The writing was great, the characters developed and hilarious, and I was compelled to keep reading right through the entire series because it was so entertaining and I needed to know what happened next.
I was lured into the 'Building the Circle' series by Maggie M Lily when I read the first book, 'The Call'. I knew it was a series, I did not know that I would get sucked down the rabbit hole that is the Trellis family. This is not a series where each book is its own story like the cover suggests. You have to start at book 1 and read through book 6 to get the whole story of this amazing and loving family.
'The Call' introduces the majority of the characters and hints at a larger plot-line, but mainly focuses on Matty and Jake. It was a slow burn, coworkers-to-friends-to-lovers romance, not particularly spicy and a slow build for sure. Still, I found it to be deeply entertaining and charming. I laughed at the antics of her best friends, found my heart breaking at their struggles, and loving the characters. And the best part. The series just got better from there.
While each sibling finds their HEA throughout the series, I found myself enraptured with the characters, the plot-line, and how the story unfolded. Each successive book pulled me deeper and deeper, until I was so entrenched in their family's story and struggles, in seeing them flourish and triumph, that the romance aspect of it was just another layer to the plot rather than the purpose of the book.
I would highly recommend giving 'Building the Circle' series a shot. I think you will fall in love with the Trellis family as much as I did. Happy reading! ~Kay
This books bring a chapter of the larger universe to close(haha). I don’t want to recap(I suck at that without giving away things). The author has a decidedly different spin in this genre and expertly crafts a cast of characters you can’t wait to get to know. I love series that tie together stories of a family or team letting you see more of the characters than a stand alone novel would allow. I can also say I have yet to read anything quite like this and love that it’s not formulaic/predictable like I sometimes find romances to be, blending together until you can’t tell them apart-this storyline stands out. This has become one of my favorite Paranormal romances to date and I’m already looking forward to the authors future projects.
I really loved this series, I wish I could find more like them. The first two books were awesome in my opinion. The only thing I didn’t like was I felt like the other books were rushed and it got confusing for me sometimes. This could have easily been a ten book or more series, but I understand what the author means about more than six books. But she has the material to flesh these out a bit more at least (please) lol. I really really like them!!! Can’t wait for her other books! I’m in love with the trellis family. You know it’s fantasy cause there’s no one like that in real life lol. So must live in this series. So please make many more trellis books!!! Thank you, for sharing them!!!
I liked this series but I have to admit that I was losing track of the characters near the end. I spent so much time trying to remember who so and so was paired with that it disrupted the flow of my reading.
How many people that you know yell, shout or bellow during the course of a conversation? This seems to happen a lot. I also don’t know anyone who cries “Boo” when they disagree with something. Especially in a group that so liberally throws around the F-bomb and other words offensive to little ears.
Ellie, Charlie and Eric - more please. You can throw in Jen also.
I’m currently reading Becoming Hank and have pre-ordered the next three books so I obviously like the characters. Just fewer at a time...
The Close: A Psychic Paranormal Romance (Building the Circle Book 6)
I loved this whole series, but finishing Book 6. I've laughed and cried and fallen in love with the Trellis family again and again, love 💕 the family drama with such fierce love & teasing, with a lot of paranormal thrown in to read these books. There are so ups and downs of life, love, laughter, heartache, of time and energy.
This author through out this whole series has a phenomenal way of bringing you into the storyline and making you want to be apart of the family and friends.
I definitely definitely recommend this book and especially this series… it was spectacular 100 stars ✨⭐️🌟💫…. I can’t wait for to start reading the related series!!! Yeah, more Trellis family love ❤️ them…
You should definitively read it! Besides all the fun you can have with this series, your heart will warm with family love and your mind will open up to a whole new level of ideas about emotions and how energy circulates in a living world. It's a fictional book, of course, but it's so well written and meaningful that you can associate with it.
I just wanna say: great series finale! It was absolutely gripping!
I am so glad this journey are going to continue. Count me in!
This series overall was great, however I did find myself skimming through parts. Trellis family was entertaining and I loved the characters. Once the brothers started finding partners, it became difficult to remember who was with who. It became more complicated when they had nicknames, like Elenour/Ellie and Adrian/Jake. THEN they had their power names. Story was unique and Lily's writing style just flowed so naturally. She was consistent with her characters and their personalities. Book covers never made sense to me!
They are utterly ridiculous, powerful beyond measure and richer than should be legal and j love it. They are so good and dumb and smart and everything all at once it could be annoying but for me it was perfection. In the middle of the world ending they make jokes about the most random things and it lit up my world for a while. I am glad this is not the end because I would miss attending Sunday dinner with these glorious people.
Most unique and well written story I've read in forever. The writing is excellent. So many authors struggle with dialogue constantly using "said" . My only complaint is the amount of characters becomes hard to follow....overwhelming even. The character development is okay but could be better. Too many characters are too similar and needed more depth. But I look forward to reading more as the author develops.
Epic story telling that hits all the feels and drags you into Sunday Dinner. I cannot what for the continuing story lines and please oh please tell me we get Charlie and Ellie's story and that there is a hunka hunka sexy HEA for Eric. I have just added a favorite author to my list and I am super picky about who I give that distinction to. After all, the name claimed is important.
I thought this would wrap up the series and I stayed up way too late to finish it. Imagine my disappointment when nothing was closed as the title suggested!!! No babies yet... couples still just recently formed.... the compound isn't finished. ... Argh! This series is still ongoing, just under a new series branch:/ Lies... all lies... I will continue on to the next trilogy when it is finished.
I love this family! Lily's first few installments sucked me right into the family dynamics. Nothing really was clear plot-wise until the third book but by then i was hooked. Had to read them all... I would rate Lily's writing overall as a 2.5 or so but for her creativity in the Trellis family I'd give her a 4. Original characters, dynamic storyline (although there were lots of things not wrapped up), and great pacing. Sorry there aren't more to read.
I first started this series under the impression it was a comedy. I would not classify it as a comedy. I was glad to be able to read the complete series without pause which was good because there are so many characters that I would never keep straight. It's A great paranormal romance with the main cast of characters being a large loving family, all having great powers related to energy.
Okay! So I had to wait to complete this series (6 books) before I could write my reviews, not because of anything but a driving need to read them all. I read all six books in under four days. So in true Trellis fashion I'm declaring Sam my favorite. While I loved each book and all of the characters book one was epic. I want more of Will and Hennessey and to see the behind the scenes of their HEA.
I am in love with the Trellis Family. They exhibit such love, acceptance, and generosity to everyone. The series had me in its grip from the first book to the last one. So happy that Ms. Lily is continuing with different off shoots. She is a fantastic storyteller and can’t wait until her books are released! Thank you Ms. Lily and keep those stories coming😍
A satisfactory end to this story line, but I SOOOOO need to know more about the other couples and characters. What's the story with Adonis Charlie? What's Jen going to do now? Don't know who these people are? You NEED to read these books. So good I stayed up all night reading the first four, read the fifth one the next day, then devoured this one today.
Unbelievable!!! This book ties all the lose ends together...it has lots of love and laughter...lots of thrills and chills...I couldn’t stop reading this book...but I wanted to drag it out too! I’m not ready to leave this family yet...I plan to read The whole series again...I cannot encourage you to read this series enough!
I cannot say enough good things about this series and this author. I am in love with the Trellis family. Keep writing and I will gladly keep reading anything you publish! This family is all about love, strength, courage and family. Each one has their own special contribution to the family and the world but they all are totally there for one another.
SPOILER ALERT! As the fight of their life is coming, the Trellis family trains and prepares to face their unknown enemy. If only they knew who, where, when, and WHY. Seeming that Sam's premonitions are about to come the, the family chooses to be proactive so they're ready. Can they stop this impending doom? Will they all survive? Read to find the answers!
Great series read for those just getting into paranormal
The story built beautifully from the beginning and into the magic. Each set of characters were unique and interesting. While there were many it wasn’t too hard to keep them straight. The stories had the right balance of angst and joy. Great reads!
Wow! Just wow!! Sam is still my favorite brother! This series kept me hooked from book one. I highly recommend! You HAVE to start with book one tho! I was sad starting this book because I thought it was the end. I am so glad that there is going to be more Trellis family shenanigans!
