After three weeks of dorm life, Rebecca is finally coming home. Everyone is excited to see her again. It's good Polly didn't schedule much; events spontaneously burst from nothing and their Labor Day weekend is filled to the brim.An extra grocery run was expected; the additional event was not. As she leaves the parking lot, no one but Polly is surprised when she's the only person who sees a body tumble down the hill. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. The location couldn't have been worse. Sheriff Merritt and Deputy Hudson arrive on scene before Polly has to deal with too many angry passersby.A slew of car thefts in the region is wreaking havoc on people's lives. No one's vehicle is safe; the thieves aren't choosy. It is pure misery when a theft hits close to home.Once the excitement of Rebecca's weekend at home passes, Polly's life fills with friends and family from Bellingwood. Nothing ever stays the same. Everything changes. New jobs, new lives, and a new family in the Bell House neighborhood. Things are never dull in this little Iowa community.Welcome back to Bellingwood.
This series used to be much more substantial. The books use to actually have plots and character development. Now we get tedious description of mundane life events. A whole page of loading a truck with tables and chairs. Another page of pancakes or dirty clothes. At the beginning we find out that stolen cars are the plot,. The body of the book is filler, Polly sayes the perfect thing to a child and then repeats the perfect things she says to her friends, so we get to read her perfect words twice. Then the plot is wrapped up in a couple pages at the end. I may have to be done with this series.
Polly goes to pick up groceries and as she is pulling on to the highway sees a body roll down by the railroad viaduct. Rebecca calls and wants to come home and her car is then stolen right out of Beryl's driveway when she is visiting her. Vehicles are being stolen in town and no one really sees anything. Rebecca is not sure about her roommate at college so she wants to come home again the next weekend and to everyone's surprise brings her with. Find out all that goes on in Bellingwood after she arrives. Another wonderful book!
Rebecca’s struggles starting college remind me of the saying “give kids wings to fly and roots to bind them to their families”. This book did not disappoint. The character development is wonderful and you feel like they are real people and you love them despite their insecurities.
Really enjoyed hearing more about Jack and Noah. The struggle of growing up was well written. Makes me wish I had a mother like Polly when I was Rebecca's age. Someone loving and supportive rather than negative and judgemental. Always a great escape to Bellingwood. Thanks so much!
Another book that not only keeps me riveted until way too late in the night, but one that teaches us to be kind and look for the good in others. I love the way Polly approaches life with her kids, her community, and in herself! Thank you for writing the stories that keep us on our toes… and remind us to find the good!
I love Bellingwood , Polly , her family and her friends. The family time and Henry and all.the kids is great. We keep.learning more about the children as they grow up. This book dealt with Rebecca going off to college and learning how to communicate with her roommate. There is always a time for friends and family for Polly.
Polly Giller saw the body of a young room down an embankment near the railroad tracks. No one is surprised. But then again Pilots life and family are just a little different in a good way that comes out as this story unfolds. Polls stories are always good, this ones extra special.
I don’t know why I continue to read this series. It’s obvious that they are published several times a year. There is essentially no plot, especially in the last several books. Now we have pages and pages of Polly preaching her values to the kids and her friends. There is no depth to any of the characters. I can read these books in a day. Luckily they are free.
Polly finds another body in the beginning of this one- and after so many books I am getting some characters and names mixed up- but I cannot resist these books. So satisfying with people's relationships, parenting lessons, affectionate couples and expanding families and townsfolk and integrity and common sense. There is a feel goo part of these books that is irresistible.
Bellingwood would be an interesting place to live!
I love all the books in this series! It is so great getting to know all the characters on a report level. The story line is so fun even though dead bodies seem to be so commonplace in this little town. I find myself wondering who I would be in Polly’s world.
The kids are growing up and learning that not everyone fits into the same mold of "normal". Everyone has their own unique version of normal, and need to be accepted for who they are. There's also a dead body that leaves us hanging about her life.
Always fun going back to Bellingwood. This book was so good, with the exception of the usual dead body/mystery. IMHO, the series just does not need that, and the plotline detract from the very positive messages and plotlines throughout the book.
I had to make myself stop reading this or I would've read it one sitting! The only flaws I found were some misspelled words. The story line was very interesting and the characters were amazingly real.
polly's family is growing up. Several.are already out on their own. doesn't mean they still don't need her. Then there is yet another dead body dropped on her and a rash of cars stolen from family and friends. Not to mention attempted rape of her adopted daughter's roommate!
Having just re read the whole series, I was looking forward to this book. As usual it’s m possible to put down. Polly’s life is full of fun and unusual twists and turns. Her family and friends fill the book with love and happiness.
Love Bellingwood and all the people there! You make them all so real!
Love the story lines in these stories! The people are all so real and you want to live in this wonderful town. Knowing it is all made up doesn't matter. They live really lives with real problems!
If you don’t have time to snuggle in and read, this is not the series for you. From the very first book you are hooked and can’t stop until you’ve read all there is to read about Bellingwood and Polly. Fasten your seatbelt. You are in for a wonderful ride.
This book covers Rebecca going off to college and on her first visit home, her car was stolen! Of course it wasn't an isolated incident. Rebecca is figuring out college life and isn't a fan of her roommate, something happens and things change.
I truly enjoy my time in Bellingwood. This was an exciting and interesting trip. I long for the next book. Such wonderful writing, thank you Diane for entertaining us.
