Outstanding sci-fi with several original elements!!!
I’ll start with the positives. The alien races were very enticing, especially the main villains. The story showcases some great mind-bending technologies and tools of war. Also, the space journeys felt like descriptions of military ships in the ocean and were fun to read.
Unfortunately, I missed a stronger main character to take me by the hand and introduce me to this incredible story filled with interstellar conspiracy, betrayal, government corruption and foreign planets.
I thought Cassie Wells, the heroine from the book’s blurb, took way too long to properly appear in the story. When she finally did (in very few chapters), she didn’t do much, which was a letdown.
Albeit convoluted with many characters and interweaving plotlines, making it confusing at times, this book proves that the author’s imagination is nothing short from "extraordinary".
This book has so much going on in it. Government corruption, cover-ups, betrayal, space travel, colonization, conspiracies, and an impending alien invasion. Ms. Steele does an excellent job of weaving several, seemingly different and complex storylines into one cohesive and compelling tale.
The underlying theme is self-preservation, and the lengths a species (not just human) will go to in order to save themselves. It perfectly illustrates what happens when people with ideological extremes gain power. How willing they are to sacrifice the lives of their fellow man in order to achieve their ideological goals.
The story also shows the good in humanity. That inevitably, when the chips are down, even when things seem to be at their darkest, good people will rally together when necessary. They do so in time to fight off the threat of an impending invasion. This common enemy brings out the best, the bravest, and ingenuity of man. Powerful motivators that often are so often taken for granted.
I like the strong female characters, and how easily they meld and work with their male counterparts. I love that the characters are fleshed-out. They don’t feel flat. The protagonists in particular. They are of varying ages, backgrounds, intelligence levels, and experiences. However, their personalities all allow them to quickly assess the rapidly changing situations in which they find themselves.
Even with all of the human intrigue and subterfuge taking place, the reader can’t help but keep in their mind: What is the looming threat? How quickly will it appear? Will the colony survive? For that matter, will Earth survive? Anyone who decides to read “Danger is Light Years Closer,” will not regret it.
Greed is at the top. When Isabella Steel gifted me this book I knew it would be good but I never expected this. I found myself enthralled at the greed and corruption written in this book even as I found the discovery of worlds intriguing. It's fascinating to see the parallels between the book and the situation today.
“Danger is Light Years Closer” is a science fiction novel written by Isabella Steel. The storyline involves learning new information about the galaxy, traveling in space, and an elaborate government cover-up. There are those who believe in the importance in preserving the earth and saving the people on it, but there are also those who are willing to kill to keep their secrets hidden from everyone else.
Readers into sci-if will enjoy this book. I fill young adults and adults would have an easier time understanding the storyline. I feel the book could capture the attention of those who aren’t even into sci-if as well just because of all the details and enjoyable characters.
I found this book to be entertaining. I liked how it contains a variety of characters. Each character is well-developed and easy to relate to. While Cassie Wells is the main character, I thoroughly enjoyed the personality of Kat Reichert. I found her to be outspoken and an authority figure that others looked up to and admired. I found her to be refreshing as a female lead character. I also liked how the story involves the finding of a new planet and all it would detail to travel to this new planet 30 years away. The aspect of there being other places to live besides earth is fascinating. The author does an excellent job at brining the other planet to life. The book was exceptionally written and essentially error free except for an area were a couple of pages repeat.
I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars. It is well-written and keeps the reader’s attention. There are different plot twists that are intriguing. I found the characters to be enjoyable and relatable. I did take away a star for a proofreading error. Pages 84 through 86 are repeated on pages 87 through 90. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would be willing to read others by this author.
