Penelope has lost so much in six months.

Her father, her sense of security, her ability — and willingness— to sleep. Her family is most concerned about the latter at the moment, and when her sister Jenna leaves her alone in their shared home for the first time since The Incident, Penelope finally accepts some help. The only problem? There are side effects. Well, one: sleep paralysis.

And the demon who came for her fear.

Fear is the only thing that matters to the demons of the Somni Dae, and as long as they deliver it back to Hell, they are free to do as they please. Except enter the waking world of course, but Acheron never minded that. He has everything he needs right here, and in thousands of years, he has never wanted for anything. Until he stumbles across Penelope's dreamscape.

Now is not the time to grow attached to a wandering soul, not with Heaven and Hell preparing to wage war. Nor is it the time to grow attached to your sleep paralysis demon, not when getting out of bed is already so hard. But Penelope is finally sleeping, and after Acheron wipes out the last of her fear, they both realize they're stronger together. And they're going to need all the strength they can get.

at first i was like mmm non-human boyfriends as a joke... but bro i don't think it's a joke anymore ☠️

“You can’t possibly know that. But loving you alone will keep me warm at night, and if you choose at the end of your life not to be with me physically, I will still make sure your life here is pleasant.”

it's official that i'm adding a sleep paralysis demon to my 'perfect-book-boyfriends' shelf. there's no shame here... he's so ✨sweet✨

Sing Me to Sleep by R.M. Virtues is a dark paranormal, short spicy fantasy novella that follows Penelope—a girl haunted by relentless night terrors and sleepless nights after a traumatic event that cost her her father. Hoping for rest, she turns to sleeping pills… only to discover a new nightmare: sleep paralysis. But things take a surreal and seductive turn when the demon sent to harvest her fear finds himself wanting to offer her anything but fear—just as Heaven and Hell are on the brink of war 🔥😈😴.

───♡─────────────

♡ What I loved most:
• The descriptions of night terrors and sleep paralysis were so vivid—it was terrifyingly easy to slip into Penelope’s skin and feel her helplessness 😵‍💫
• The spice was shockingly hot—especially compared to Divine Intervention, which left me wanting more. I was not expecting it to hit like this, but wow 🔥
• The supernatural worldbuilding was intriguing: different demon types, morally gray Heaven and Hell, the sleep wanderers—it felt fresh and creative 👁️🌌
• I appreciated the novella's fast pace—it didn't linger too long and knew what it was trying to be

✘ What didn’t work for me:
• Quite a few typos throughout 😬
• The degradation kink wasn’t really my thing—it pulled me out of the story a bit
• There’s almost no Earth-side worldbuilding—we basically only see her bedroom and bathroom 🛏🚿
• The love came out of nowhere. I could buy the insta-lust, but the insta-love felt forced and hollow 💔
• The spice overwhelmed the plot. It was good spice, don’t get me wrong, but it was more like 75% spice and 25% plot… and I prefer a closer 50/50 balance 📖
• Just like in Divine Intervention, the overarching Heaven/Hell plot remained unresolved. While I liked the concept, I was left wanting some kind of closure 😔

❀ Overall:
This was a fun, fast little read, but despite its short length (~150 pages), it took me longer than I care to admit to finish. The concept of sleep paralysis demons was fascinating, and some moments were very steamy, but overall the book leaned too hard into monster smut and didn’t leave me with much to hold onto. Unique? Yes. Memorable? Not quite. Still, it was an experience 😈🌙

There is so much delicious monster romance-y goodness in this, I have no words. It’s one of those books I didn’t realize I needed in your life until I read it. I cannot WAIT for the rest of the books in this world. I’m so impressed by the worldbuilding and how it set up the rest of the series. It is going to be absolute torture waiting for the rest of the books!

This was pretty fun! I really enjoyed the idea that she was falling for a demon visiting her in her sleep and she was overcoming the trauma of surviving a home invasion that she lost loved ones during. I wasn't the biggest fan of the world building in the demon POV and it was hard for me to get all that in such a short book. But this was a fun monster romance!

“I am your monster. Make of me what you will.”

uh, sex with a sexy ass paralysis demon??? count me in.

I'm already in love with the premise of this upcoming series. Deadly sins, Heavenly Virtues and (i'm blanking on a word here but...) Humans. I'm already buzzing for the next book.

“You never have to thank me. I will burn this entire world and the next to the ground before I let anyone hurt you again.”...

“As I would do for you.”

“I will never let anything happen to you. I can’t. You’ve ruined me for it.”

And here I thought that « Her soul to take » was one of the filthiest and steamiest book I ever read, oh boy, I was SO wrong.

The world building was really interesting and this novella was perfect to introduce this new series. It’s clearly not for everyone, but R.M Virtues is quickly becoming one hell of an author and I’m OBSESSED with his work!

✔️ Complex and interesting world building
✔️ Great chemistry between the Mc
✔️ Very good writing
✔️ Demon/Monster romance ( who has non-human attributes 👀)
✔️ CNC ( Consent-nonconsent)
✔️ PTSD rep
✔️HEA
✔️Novella

« We’re demons, Princess, not superheroes ».

PD: No he podido no pensar que el ser me recordó a The Beast en Over the Garden Wall.

I could’ve finished this in a few hours but I forced myself to take breaks to make the fictional world stretch out and last longer.

I have fallen madly in love with a sleep paralysis demon and it’s all R. M. Virtues’ fault.

The mystery element. The revenge plot. The fear developing into passion from our main character, Penelope, in regards to the horned demon that appears in her rooms when she attempts to sleep.

It was simply everything and I’m so excited to see how future books develop.

You know what they say… curiosity killed the cat🥲

Alright so this book it’s a sleep paralysis demon romance. Yup. You read it right. I saw a tiktok about it, I was intrigued and I regret it.

I got to give it to it tho the plot it was kind off interesting, Acherons world building was well done and not too much? And Penelope she was okay? I feel like we didn’t get to see any of their characters in depth so i don’t really have anything to say about them.

Now the smut😟 It was really weird and it was not for me. Just telling you that he has a TAIL and he uses that for you know…

Here’s some things that made me say out loud WHAT THE FUCK???

“Before she could envision it however, her body bucked and arched. He’d shoved his tail straight into her 🐱”

Not to mention he also puts it in her mouth like I beg you pardon???😟😟😟

“Her eyes could hardly process the sight, a large obsidian obelisk adorned in defined ridges and deep grooves”

THATS HER DESCRIBING HIS THING😀😀???

It was WEIRD and it made me laugh like you can’t be serious. Also his horns… i don’t even want to talk about it, I’m traumatized. This is the first book that i was actually going to dnf but i stayed strong 🥲 and put myself through that bullshit. And like i always say if you liked it, that’s alright!! I don’t judge :)

TW: drug use, sleep paralysis, cnc, PTSD, depression.

There was nothing wrong with being monstrous when it was in defense of those you love.

This is a sleeping paralysis demon smut, with a dash of a healing journey, getting through trauma and acceptance. It was good, but the narrative just did not work for me very well. I cannot point out as to why though. Overall an interesting story, but not my cup of tea.

this was so interesting to read. the fact that it had a plot and a decent one was kind of a surprise. every Penelope deserves an Acheron to chase away their terrors (or make them spicy).

“It had been evident from the beginning. Whatever he took from her, he was twice as willing to give back tenfold, and he had. Again and again, he had offered the softest parts of himself to her albeit in the most aggressive ways, and he regretted nothing.”

What started off as a dark monster romance really ended up being a super sweet and very endearing romance, which I absolutely loved. The plot revolves around a sleep, paralysis demon, who basically falls in love with the girl he is supposed to feed off of her fear at night. This has a definite happily ever after I thoroughly enjoyed it I thought the smart and it was really good and really enjoyed the tail play.

Filing this under hot in fiction, terrifying irl

Why you ask? because the mmc is a sleep paralysis demon who shows up in the fmc's room when she's sleeping. He has wings, antlers, red eyes, claws, a tail, and is basically my worst nightmare. If I were to encounter him in real life I'd die on the spot but also the demon's dick game is strong af so maybe I'll give pause.

He says lots of growly possessive alpha MMC stuff though, so he's extra swoony.

Don't come for me but while I enjoy some world building in my stories, the info dumping threw me off and made this pretty short story feel longer than it was. I do think the world building could have been briefer and still would have the same intended effect.

The smut though? OOF. At one point the demon had his dick in her pussy, his tongue in her ass, and his tail rubbing on her clit so like needless to say, the smut was extra nice.

Rating: 4 stars and I'd def read more from this author.

Intruiged to see more in the series. I like the sloppy sex and intense heat with an HEA. But strangely... I didn't like the plot set up as much. Maybe I will in the long run.

I saw this book in a reader group recently. And let’s just say, it grabbed my attention, sunk its monster claws in, and didn’t let go. I was in a mood, and I had to read it.

Is paranormal erotica your jam?
Are you good with reading about sleep paralysis demons… and filthy, explicit monster sex? CNC? Then this book might be something you’d enjoy. Be sure to read the content warning at the beginning, this book isn’t for everyone!

This story is not my usual read. It was different, it was very, very naughty, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. I was so intrigued! And I kinda had a crush on a demon. (no judgies)

This book is a prequel/introduction to a new series the author will be releasing this year. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out!

R.M. Virtues is a new-to-me author and I’m very happy I gave him a try!

Archeron had never heard of a demon who had fallen - and so gently too - for a mortal. It felt impossible. Worse than that, it felt dangerous.
I posted a TikTok where the woman made a joke about having sex with her sleep paralysis demon to my Instagram story and got several people recommending this book to me. Obviously, I was intrigued.
I really liked the writing in this book, especially at the beginning - we're immediately pulled into the story, into Penelope's fear and anguish. The dynamic between her and the demon Archeron is instant and interesting... we learn as she does if he means to harm her, what he can do to her (wink wink nudge nudge), and how "real" it is.
There's a list of content warnings before chapter 1 but the one I want to call out is consensual non-consent.
"I'm going to make you scream.""No!""And no one is going to hear you.""God-"He leaned over her, his mouth on her ear. "God is the last person you should be asking for help."
I think the story fell off a bit for me with the inclusion of the war plotline. I'm not sure if we'll be getting more demon's stories and that'll continue the overarching plot of the war between the two demon factions (I didn't fully get it), but it made this story feel a bit crowded to me. I think the plotline of Penny learning about Archeron and coming to terms with the murder of her father would have been sufficient, especially for a book this short (168 Kindle pages). I kind of glossed over the war bits and they didn't seem to come to anything.

Devam eder miyim bilmiyorum.

I will burn this entire world and the next to the ground before I let anyone hurt you again.

This trope is so unique. Getting cozy with your paralysis demon? Yeah, not something I've ever read before. Now make that said demon hot af and a dirty-talker!

I can't consider this as a stand-alone. It was clearly meant to set the foundations of the series. I was so intrigued about the world building and the depiction of Heaven, Hell and Earth as well as the creatures inhabiting it. It feels like the author has developed a complex lore, some of it relating to the interpretation of good and bad.
Of course, I was confused at times with names and the functioning of each group and all the bombardment of information that didn't entirely connect with our couple's story, which at times seemed forced to the background.

The mcs were quite interesting and had this ricocheted chemistry between them. Their feelings though were a bit rushed and they went from zero to fully bloomed. I was surprised by the spice and the con/non-con side of it. The spice was so, so good but it was also the major part of their relationship. They only had s*x and the boom in love. I can't deny though that the mcs grew on me and the rest of their story was lovely.

All in all, I really enjoyed this novella, its uniqueness, the lore and my new favorite demon, Acheron. Also, that book cover is gorgeous.

Did I like it? Yes.
Would I reread it? Yes

I'm re reading this for Halloween because I can't help myself!

------------------------------------------------

4.5⭐️ I adored it!

Like everything R.M. Virtues writes, Sing Me to Sleep was absolutely delicious. I will always want more of this author. It was my first ever non-fanfic erotic horror and the vibes were just *immaculate*.

The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I found the lore a bit confusing and convoluted for a novella. I know, though, that this is just a little teaser for what the world building will be like in the Series of Sacrilegious Events Series, but alas.

I'll just sit right here and wait for more, please and thank you!

Okay, convincing you to read this book in one sentence. The male MC is a demon with an extra long tongue and vibrating tail. Add this to your TBR asap. I saw Katee Roberts talk about it on TT and I was intrigued…and oh boy did it deliver. For a novella is certainly packs a punch. A sleep paralysis demon and a young woman who just lived through an unimaginable tradgedy find belonging in each other and really, really…really dirty, rough sex. The world-building is phenomenal for such a short read. Equal parts kinky and heartwarming this book has something for everyone!

“I am your monster. Make of me what you will.”

Well I didn't expect this much story and lore to be packed into what I thought was simply going to be a short smutty monster porn...but hey I had fun and wouldn't mind spending more time in this world if this was made into a series with more couples down the line.

Also-Just by the by there is some dub con and rougher sex elements-but the book and characters thoughts make it perfectly clear that they are both on board with that, and I was also happy to get into their more sweet and romantic moments too

All in all if your looking for a dark fantasy romance with a sleep paralysis demon turned beau who can sling some decent dirty talk then I'd say give this a go

Good world building + good spice, çaktım 4’ü geçtim.
