This book was hot. Like supernova hot. Sam and Liv have paired together to write one outrageously good omegaverse will growly alphas, demanding omegas, and controlling betas all in a world that the betas rule, and where nothing is as it seems. I jumped right in and didn't look back.
I will admit I'm a reverse harem junkie and I partially blame Sam for this, suck me in with all the delicious steamy stories with multiple partners. So for a while, I wondered if MF was ruined for me but I found out that wasn't the case, however, when Jace was announced I realized I never read an omegaverse that wasn't a reverse harem so call me super curious about how Jace was gonna go. Honestly, I wasn't worried because Sam is one of my favorite authors and honestly I don't think I would ever hate anything she'd write and I was right Jace was all steamy deliciousness that I love.
Jace and Sloane had really good chemistry and it wasn't the whole alpha/omega dynamic, yeah they had that going on too but it was the personalities that worked together. Sloane looks after, protects her little sister Emma, handles the adult stuff, while Emma gets to live a wild and carefree life. Being the caregiver has made Sloane the responsible one unable to let loose and Jace is the alpha protector who feels a need to protect. Jace is actually a pretty good guy, he doesn't want anyone let alone himself take advantage of an omega, he protects them in a world that would take advantage but he has his own issues that causes some drama but he's good for Sloane who has to overcome her own issues. Sloane was real interesting she had to go through some transitions in this book that made her take a good look at her life and what she thought she knew about the world. I like them both and was able to connect to them and their story very easily.
This story has a slight dystopian flare to it because alphas and omegas have a designated section, Desparion, (think segregation) in this culture, well that's if the omegas aren't carted off by either Alpha Control Agency or the Dawn Agency, both are extremely shady organizations. Actually, the way betas treat alphas and omegas in this world is very disturbing. The propaganda that they are nothing but their base instincts, not really people, and don't really have any rights or can own anything is crazy. The betas are painted in a bad light, wanting to control the ones that they see as less than and willing to do some super shady stuff. Some of this is similar to Sam's Season series but even more to the extreme in Jace and it made for an interesting story. I'm gonna show my age here and say this world is kinda giving me Jessica Alba's Dark Angel vibes. It was a dystopian tv series that feels fairly accurate when it comes to Desparion, if you don't know the series, I suggest you look it up, it was canceled way too soon.
Jace was everything. Sam is the very reason I started reading omegaverse and it's books like Jace that's gonna keep me coming back to them, especially if Sam writes them. Also because of this book, I will be checking out a book of Liv's at some point. I'm pleased to know that Jace is just the first standalone in the series and I will be counting down the days until the next book, Ryder, will be released.
