A major figure of the Cuban Revolution, since his death Guevara's stylized visage has become an ubiquitous countercultural symbol and global icon within popular culture.
His belief in the necessity of world revolution to advance the interests of the poor prompted his involvement in Guatemala's social reforms under President Jacobo Arbenz, whose eventual CIA-assisted overthrow solidified Guevara's radical ideology. Later, while living in Mexico City, he met Raúl and Fidel Castro, joined their movement, and travelled to Cuba with the intention of overthrowing the U.S.-backed Batista regime. Guevara soon rose to prominence among the insurgents, was promoted to second-in-command, and played a pivotal role in the successful two year guerrilla campaign that topled the Cuban government.
After serving in a number of key roles in the new government, Guevara left Cuba in 1965 to foment revolution abroad, first unsuccessfully in Congo-Kinshasa and later in Bolivia, where he was captured by CIA-assisted Bolivian forces and executed.
Guevara remains both a revered and reviled historical figure, polarized in the collective imagination in a multitude of biographies, memoirs, essays, documentaries, songs, and films. Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century, while an Alberto Korda photograph of him entitled "Guerrillero Heroico," was declared "the most famous photograph in the world" by the Maryland Institute of Art.

Como Agir/Pensar/Lutar/Se Tornar um Guerrilheiro Revolucionário, nas palavras daquele que foi o mais famoso de todos.
Guevara é sucinto em sua obra, escrita com esmero, propósito e foco — sendo ele próprio o seu maior crítico.
Ao tentar estabelecer um método e uma lógica para algo tão subjetivo quanto uma guerra de guerrilhas, Che revela suas maiores forças e também suas falhas: as mesmas que o transformaram em figura mítica ao tomar Havana e que, anos depois, o levaram à morte nas selvas da Bolívia.
Com caráter intransigente, disciplina extrema, pragmatismo e um “idealismo realista”, Guevara transporta o leitor para a realidade que enfrentou em Cuba: uma existência marcada por provações diárias de subsistência e combate, na qual a vitória só se torna possível por meio de uma organização capaz de moldar os homens, de transformar o “eu” em “nós”. Para isso, também são indispensáveis o conhecimento profundo da população local, da geografia, das estratégias adequadas e, inevitavelmente, uma boa dose de sorte.
A leitura — pela sua natureza de manual militar — revela claramente ter sido escrita em 1960. No entanto, mais constantes que as marcas do tempo são as lições e reflexões sobre o que foi necessário para a vitória dos Barbudos. Não à toa, a obra continua sendo estudada tanto por admiradores e aspirantes a revolucionários quanto por contrarrevolucionários, que buscam impedir a todo custo que uma revolução como a cubana se repita.
Recomendo a leitura a quem tem curiosidade sobre os métodos revolucionários em sua aplicação prática — indo além da superficialidade —, a quem deseja aprofundar-se na compreensão de Ernesto “Che” Guevara e, ainda, a quem procura transmutar os conselhos e conhecimentos militares de um guerreiro para a vida cotidiana, da mesma forma que muitos fazem com A Arte da Guerra.
