The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane.
Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats.
Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters.

I love this vampire series by Linda Lael Miller.
The first book was Forever and the Night, the story of Aidan Tremayne - see my review here https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... .

For All Eternity, the 2nd book is Maeve Tremayne, Aidan's sister's story. I loved Maeve from the very beginning and I was looking forward to her finding her very own HEA.

The story takes place over centuries. Maeve meets the mortal Dr Calder Holdbrook during the American Civil War, where they are tending to the sick and injured in the battlefields.

They fall in love but their happiness does not come quickly or easy. It will take many meetings over many years before the two finally are able to be together for eternity.

Fabulous characters...............meeting up with the evil super vampire queen Lisette, and Valerian, the maker of Maeve and Aidan. I cannot wait for his book...which is next.......YIPPEE!!!

Have just finished this one, and once again, it was like reading for the first time. It is many years since my first reading, so I am thoroughly enjoying this series. This book was as good as the first, telling the story of one of the secondary characters from the first book. They are definitely interconnected and need to be read in order, but they are great books. Highly recommend to anyone who loves Vampire romance...great story line, wonderful characters, and I am going to start the third book right away!

Maeve Tremayne is a vampire capable of traveling through time. When she visits a Civil War battlefield to feed off of the dying soldiers, she is discovered by Dr. Calder Holbrook. Calder believes he is seeing an angel tending to the wounded. When he finds out she is a vampire, he asks her to change him into one too. He longs to be able to travel through time and discover the advances in medicine in the twentieth century. Maeve refuses. She will not be the person he eventually blames for a never-ending life of darkness. But a rogue vampire named Lizette is loose and the angels have threatened to destroy everything if Maeve and her friends don't destroy her.

This is the second book in Linda Lael Miller's vampire series. I read it when it was published and listened to it this time around. The romance in this book was OK, but I liked the plot concerning stopping the war with the angels by destroying Lizette. The vampires teaming up with their mortal enemies, the warlocks, to fight Lizette made for some interesting situations. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

Maeve must go on with her vampire life and forget her beloved brother, Aiden. He was now a mortal who married his true love and Valerian had told her they were expecting a child. She seen the flowers he left for her to let her know he survived transformation.

Now she faces a war. Valerian tells her she will be the Queen of the Vampyres but she don't know that she wants that job. While wandering over the fields of war, relieving some of the young men from the pain and death awaiting them she meets Calden. She should not have spoken to the mortal Dr but now that she has he is in her mind and thoughts. Like brother like sister Valerian says, as they both chose mortals.

Calden wants her to change him but she will not condemn anothers soul to hell as hers is.

This book is written from all angles. Calden, Valerian, Maeve, Lisette.

I thought I wasn't going to like this one as much as the first one because some of the characters from the 1st one were not in this one. But it was really good. Can't wait to read the third.

Not sure why it took me so long to finish this. I really enjoyed it, and loved the continuation of Maeve's story. Linda Lael Miller always has characters you can just fall in love with, and these are no exception.

Maeve loves being a vampire, even with all the restrictions that come with it. She meets Calder Holbrook in the field hospital of the Civil War when she feeds on dying soldiers who can't be saved. He wants to become a vampire so they can stay together, and he can move in time and save more people. She can't do it, as her youth spent in a convent won't allow her to do that. But when his half brother shoots him right after their father dies, Maeve asks Valerian, who is her maker, to help him when she discovers she has started the transformation without even realizing it. Will Calder survive the transformation? Will they be able to work it all out? Will Maeve be able to defeat Lizette? I loved the little plot twist at the end. You'll have to read it to find out what it is!

Aidan’s sister Maeve’s story

Morning her brother’s change back to human, travels to a battle at Gettysburg in the Civil War to feed. There she runs into the disillusioned military Doctor Caulder Holbrook and can’t forget him.

Also Valerian tries to convince Maeve to investigate Lizette’s actions involving newly made deviant vampires wanting her to overthrow Maeve and become queen of the vampires. Before Nemesis takes notice and destroys them all.

Footnote: 1) I listened to an audio version of this book and the narrator; Chris Dukehart got a lot of the conversation inflections wrong giving different meaning to situation. Even mispronouncing words. ex: Asure is pronounced a-sure, not a-sur-re.

Fave scenes: Maeve’s visit to the young vampire twins, Caulder exploring Maeve’s house, Maeve going back to Caulder’s past and Mauve rescuing the poor woman.

An improvement over the first book. While I liked the characters and such from book one, I just didn't find myself absorbed into the story. I was just reading it to finish. The story wasn't bad but....

I found this book to be much more interesting for some reason. I got more caught up in what was going on and wanted to see what happened next. Even so, I didn't care as much for the characters. They were interesting but less appealing and I was less concerned about what happened to them.

That being said, the increase in my liking of the plot overshadowed my drop in caring for the characters. Overall, a good read and I'd suggest it. I do plan on reading the third book soon.

*****SPOILER*****
These vampires don't sparkle.

It has the expected amount of overly purple prose, which together with a rather illogical plot (that features among other things time traveling vampires for no apparent reason) makes for an enjoyable soap opera feeling once you get used to it.

It's a story for everyone.

If you enjoy reading about history, love, or the supernatural, then Linda Lael Miller's Black Rose Chronicles will be the best books to enjoy over and over again. All of her stories have the re-readable qualities that we have come to expect from Ms. Miller's deft hand and creative mind, but these are some of her best. I recommend that you read all of her stories. You'll never be bored

I read this series over the summer between 6th and 7th grade way back in 1995…I remember nothing about the storyline yet it makes me smile thinking about it, so I obviously enjoyed the series and I know it definitely was NOT meant for an 11 year old but I never really stuck to the stuff meant for my age.

Calder’s life since the war begun has been suffocated by death, tears and the longing for change. His position as a doctor for the wounded soldiers of the Civil War leaves him with no time to eat or sleep let alone think of the strained relationship between himself and his father.

One night, a specter visits the battleground. Many have whispered of the presence of an angel who comes to the dying and takes them to heaven. As a doctor with a level head, he never believes such rumors to be true. Until, that it, he saw her himself.

Maeve travels back in time to feed freely on the dying, eliminating their pain while filling her belly. The second she lays eyes on the tormented doctor, she falls in love. Her travels back in time become more frequent since Calder and Maeve takes great joy in seeing him again. Although, time is not something she has a lot of. Silly that, considering she’s immortal. However, the Queen of the vampire race has essentially lost her wits and is causing more strain between Vampires, mage kind and Angels. To the point that if Lisette is not stopped, Vampires will all be slaughtered. Maeve is told she is the rightful heir, the only one strong enough to kill Lisette. She doesn’t want to title or the responsibility but more then that, she fears a life without Calder. As human, he could never truly be hers but she refuses to change him. She won’t see hate in his eyes.

But as destiny unfolds, she may not have a choice.

My, what a disappointment this book was. When I selected it as my next read, I was excited. My experience with this author has usually been positive. Unfortunately, this book fell flat in the worst way. Firstly, there was little to no time spent of developing the hero/heroine relationship and budding love. It was instant. From the first moment of meeting, Calder and Maeve were in love. And while they had their troubles, they were always in love. I don’t want that. I want a story, a tale, which I can follow from start to end and everything in between. Secondly, the hero was an absolutely beta male. And while I don’t subscribe that always being a bad thing, in this case I didn’t see Calder as a man. Maeve was the complete dominate party in their relationship and that was never in question. I want a strong male lead as much as I like a strong female lead. Lastly, the whole story read as fantasy. The was no real elements that took hold of my attention and kept in throughout the book. I didn’t care about the characters and I certainly didn’t care about the plot.

This is the second in Linda Lael Miller's vampire series. Features Maeve Tremayne and Dr. Calder Holbrook. This was not one of my favorite books by Miller. Immortal vampire (Maeve) and mortal man come across each other on a battlefield during the American Civil War. They fall in love at first sight (no lines, no waiting, folks) and hardly spend any time together except for the random moments--which can be counted on one hand--that Maeve pops in to see him from various continents and centuries. She is busy battling the ancient and mad vampire queen, Lisette, and is fated to become the next vampire queen.

In the meantime, Calder is trying to convince her to transform him into a vampire so they can be together through eternity. The way the book reads, however, he seems more interested in the bennies of being able to travel to the future to gain more knowledge about medicine and to be able to bring back antibiotics and morphine, etc. for the Civil War soldiers.

The characters were both kindhearted and wanted to ease the suffering of mortals, but I found the romance part lacking. They were also both stubborn. This is one of those times where if you attended a wedding you would say, "Ah, I give 'em six months."

The first book in the series, "Forever and the Night" featured Maeve's twin brother, Aidan. He was a disgruntled vampire who fell in love with a mortal (Neely) and if there were any possibility of it happening, he would be willing to sacrifice anything to be given his mortality back.

Both books feature an ancient vampire, Valerian, who was both Aidan and Maeve's maker. I'm thinking there must be a third book in the series about him because it was made clear that he had an interesting past that needed telling.

[Edited] Just saw on another review that there are four books in this series. The next two are "Time Without End" and "Tonight and Always".

I have a weakness for romance books. This one involves a vampire and a mortal. Maeve and Calder and their love passes times and periods. Meuve is a vampire who wanted nothing more than all the benefits being a vampire can offer. Her world changes as she comes upon Calder, a doctor during the Civil War. In the midst of their romance, a rouge vampire is out to destroy all. Nemesis, God's head angel is determined to destroy all evil unless Liestte is destroyed. Great.light reading.

I guess I'm just not a vampire romance kind of gal. The book was okay. It was full of every bit of paranormal you can put in a romance (vampire, warlocks, angels, time travel) but I just didn't buy Maeve as the great and all powerful Vampire Queen. She just wasn't strong enough for me and so the rest of the book suffered for my disbelief.

I like Miller's vamps a lot. They time travel, they can do magic, they can even influence people's minds. It is pretty fun and Maeve is one of the most powerful of them. The romance is very melodramatic but it works for me. And it makes sense, to me at least, that vamps and all other sorts of supernatural creatures would haunt battlefields.

I don't read many vampire romance books, but this one I liked. I've read other books by Linda Lael Miller and I've enjoyed them, so I gave this one a try. It kept drawing me back to it. I missed the first one though, 'Forever and a Night'
I am going to check the library for a continuation to this one.

Better than the Anne Rice vampire series. thankyou

I don't ever bother with reviews since I am not a writer and cannot express myself with words but I was so very much expressed with this Black Rose Chronicles that I had to leave my view. Better than the Anne Rice vampire series. Thankyou

I liked this book up to the very end, but the ending ruined it for me. It was not believable at all. I know the book is about vampires and vampires are all fantasy and make believe, but within the context of the book things should make since and the ending made no since at all.
