Charlotte Walker is widowed, pregnant and running for her life. Lost in a blizzard on Christmas Eve, she fears she will die before ever seeing her sweet baby's face. When her horse throws her, all hope seems lost, until a handsome stranger appears, takes her in his arms, and carries her to the warmth and safety of his remote mountain cabin.
Adam Masters lives alone in the mountains of Montana Territory outside Morgan's Crossing. The last thing he expects to find on his property is a half frozen woman. The last thing he wants is to deliver a baby on Christmas morning. But Charlotte and her new daughter begin to thaw his cold, grieving heart. Adam already lost one family. When danger comes to his door, he'll do whatever it takes to protect the two women he's grown to love, but can he convince Charlotte to take a chance and give him her heart.
Cynthia Woolf is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of eighty-five works of romance fiction. Comprising sixty-six historical western romances, ten contemporary romance novels, two contemporary romance novellas, one historical western romance novella, and six sci-fi space opera romances, which she calls westerns in space. Along with these books, she has also published twelve boxed sets of her books and two short stories.
Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance, Tame A Wild Heart, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia's father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede, that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy, not a bounty hunter, and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now), not the ranch owner.
Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband, Jim, and her great critique partners for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

I enjoyed this sweet and clean story that brings two people together during a crisis and helps them realize what is important and how you must leave the past in the past. There is a great cast of characters and trying circumstances.
Charlotte Walker was widowed when her husband, Rory, a deputy, was killed during a bank robbery. She did not even know she was expecting until after his death. Now Rory’s oldest brother, Sheriff Rupert Walker, is determined that he will marry Charlotte. She is terrified of him and his sadistic and cruel behavior and fears for her child. She defends herself from Rupert with a cast iron skillet and then flees the town of Rosewood and is caught in the middle of a December snowstorm.
Adam Masters lives out, hours from the town of Morgan’s Crossing. He hears an unusual noise during a snowstorm and finds Charlotte in the snow and her horse nearby. Taking her into his cabin and discovers she is pregnant but also in labor. What a shock for this widower and loner to find himself in a situation where he will have to help deliver a baby. Being the oldest brother to a houseful of sisters gives him experience with a newborn infant.
Can Adam protect Charlotte and her baby from her ruthless brother-in-law? With two people sharing a cabin, becoming friends, and developing an emotional bond with her baby, what will happen? Adam fears he can’t be the type of man to protect a family, but what will happen to Charlotte and her baby when they are left on their own?
This is such a heart warming Christmas story. It doesn’t start out happy, but it does have a happy ending. I felt so bad for Charlotte that her deceased husband’s oldest brother was trying to force Charlotte to marry him. He was a nasty individual that I was glad to see Charlotte get away from. I can’t imagine Charlotte riding a horse in a blizzard 81/2 months pregnant! I was so happy to see Adam rescue her. I felt bad that Adam didn’t think he was a good enough person for Charlotte. He is a good man that helped Charlotte and her baby. Charlotte isn’t out of trouble, but I was glad she has the people of her new town to help her out. I strongly encourage you to read the this wonderful Christmas story. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
This is a great western romance taken place in 1887. Author, Cynthia Woolf, does a marvelous job of describing everything so you feel like you are in the storyline yourself. She makes the characters so real and true to life as well that you really do get swept up into the romance of the book. Add Christmas to it and it’s the perfect book.
The story is about Charlotte Walker who is pregnant by her late husband and being abused by her brother-in-law. She makes the decision to run away when she gets the chance. Unfortunately, she leaves in a blizzard on Christmas Eve. As she is riding her horse she goes into labor and falls off the horse. Suddenly a man appears, pulls her up and takes her into his cabin. This is not just any man either, he’s a handsome, sweet, wonderful person who ends up helping her deliver the baby. Adam Masters lives by himself in this cabin and not use to having someone else there. Even though Charlotte knows that her brother-in-law will be after her she feels she must leave Adam’s cabin since she has fallen in love with him and sure he doesn’t want her and the baby. Little did she know that Adam felt the same way
A wonderful story of loss and love that brings two people together unexpectedly. It seems like fate to me although maybe not to them at first. Charlotte Walker was a woman running from an abusive brother in law after her husband passed away. Almost ready to give birth, she was rescued by Adam Masters, who found her in the snow. Luckily he was a kind man and she knew he'd have to help her when she went into labor. Can you even imagine? The strength the women had to have back then and persaverance. Charlotte is determined to keep her baby safe and away from her brother in laws. But can she? Will they find her? Spending a lot of time together snowed in forces her and Adam to get to know each other and an attraction builds.. Loved this sweet story as only Cynthia Woolf can tell it, which always brings a smile and sigh as I turn the last page!!
Part of ‘The Brides of Homestead Canyon’ book set by Cynthia Woolf, the book opens on December 24, 1887, with Charlotte Walker riding in a heavy snowstorm. She is pregnant. VERY pregnant. And she is having labor pains. The baby isn’t due for two or three weeks. She has no plans to stop. She can’t stop.
Her brother-in-law deserved it; she fled after hitting him. He was dead. At least, she hoped he was. Her husband, Rory, had been a complete opposite of his brother, Rupert. That man was mean as a snake. And cruel. Determined to marry her after Rory died. She was to produce a son; girls were worthless. And she would marry him. He was sheriff and could do anything he wanted.
Bluebell, her horse, stumbled and fortunately for Charlotte and her baby, she ended up in a bank of snow. Unhurt but crying “Help”!
Enter her rescuer, Adam Masters, who is taller than John Wayne. And definitely– one of the good guys. Charlotte feels safe, but she did not get far enough from Rosewood where Rupert is sheriff. Not nearly far enough.
What follows is a sweet story set at Christmas time with just a little bit of “steam”. Personally, I could have done without the “steam”. But I did enjoy this Christmas story. There is something about a big man who melts when he holds a baby.
“A Family for Christmas” by Cynthia Woolf would have been a better story without the typos and at least one each modern-day reference and phrase. But the story is lovely and you can skim the “light steamy” parts. Oh, I deliberately didn’t tell you what Charlotte used to hit her Rupert. Want you to enjoy finding that out for yourself.
Rating: 3.5 stars (rounded to 4) Cover rating: POOR. Pretty but totally wrong for the book. The lady has blue eyes. Adam absolutely *loved* Charlotte’s green eyes. The cover does not reflect Christmas at all and implies a lot more “steam” than this book has. Note; Goodreads has a different cover.
A Family for Christmas is a novella about hope. Charlotte is a widow who is 8 months pregnant is fleeing from her abusive brother-in-law. While she is trying to get as far away as possible a blizzard hits and causes her horse to stumble and her to tumble. She discovers she is stuck in the deep snow and is screaming for help. Luckily, Adam heard her cries and rescues her in the nick of time! Her water broke and with Adam's help she delivers her daughter Christina. Due to the snow and the birth of her daughter, Charlotte is stuck in Adam's cozy cottage and they get to know each other, they can't help but fall in love. However, Adam doesn't think he is good enough for the two of them and takes Charlotte to the nearest town to wait for the train so she can get further away from her in-laws. While back at his cabin, Adam realizes he's a fool for letting his girls go and decides to bring them back. Is Adam too late? Has she left or has her past finally caught up with her? This novella was easy to read with wonderful characters.
Charlotte was a young, very pregnant widow, who was being held captive by her sadistically evil brother-in-law Rupert. By Rupert's family tradition, Rupert was to marry her being the oldest of the brothers. He slapped her around every chance he got. She had an opportunity to escape, although the weather was bad, with deep snow and another storm on the way. She knew she had time before her baby was coming although she was close. Running as far as she could get with the weather getting much worse, her horse throws her. Adam hears a noise that is not familiar, and goes to investigate. To his surprise he finds Charlotte. He cares for her and delivers her baby shortly after finding her. They both start to have feelings, but Adam has his own past to deal with. Rupert arrives.
4.5 stars Sweet, dangerous and heartwarming western romance from Ms. Woolf. Charlotte is running for her life and that of her soon to be born baby’s life. She lost her loving husband and now her brother-in-law plans to marry her and raise the child. He is abusive and a sheriff with lots of power. Adam is recluse who lives mostly off the land. He finds Charlotte and she has to trust and depend on him. Their lives are in danger now. The characters and storyline keep you turning pages to see what happens next. There were a few places the book seemed slow but overall a good book. I received a complementary copy of this book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Woolf.
I voluntarily agreed to read an advanced copy of this book. I enjoyed this story even though it was a bit too short .This is the first I had read under the Montana Sky banner so would like to search out the other books. Charlotte, who is a pregnant widow, runs away from an abusive brother-in-law during a blizzard, and ends up giving birth in a stranger's home. Danger follows and Charlotte's newfound friends help her. A romantic story with a flawed hero, a resourceful heroine and a beautiful baby.
So let me start by saying this was a nice short Christmas story. They story starts with a woman on the run from her deceased husband's family. She is pregnant and determined to get away at any cost. She is caught in a storm and found by a captivating stranger. He is sweet and catering he also help her delivery her child. Eventually they part way because of course it attraction they feel can't be... Little does a lady know her brother in law in hard on her heels to get her back... Take the time to read to see how it all ends.
My only complaint was its way too short, LOL! This clean story has great characters, Charlotte & Adam who are vey up front with each other, most open communication I've read/seen in a long time. Adam & his Lit Bit touched my heartstrings!, I can picture them snuggling in my mind. So happy that Rupert got what he deserved and hope the other brothers stay far away. Really looking forward to the next book in the Homestead Canyon Series.
A sweet western romance about a strong woman on the run from danger rescued by a slightly damaged, yet strong man.
Adam shows his sensitive side as he bell a Charlotte deliver her daughter.
I like that Charlotte was strong and Adam was comfortable showing his gentler side. This was a very short story, easily read in one sitting. It would have been even better if it had been a little longer.
Charlotte running from a mean sheriff during a blizzard is found by a gentle giant. Adam the oldest of 10 kids knows about babies. The story about how Charlotte and Adam helping each other and hearing about other characters from Morgan's Crossing series. A good short story.
Another nice story from Cynthia. The characters are endearing, they give insight into what it was like to live in the “wild frontier” and what women went through during childbirth. It also deals with physical abuse and how it was dealt with in those days. I sometimes think it would be a good idea to use the same methods in today’s time.
Cynthia Woolf has done it again and given us a story that is heart touching with great character development. This is Charlotte and Adam's story and is a story with lots of action including some surprises, past heartache, secrets, evil, love and a HEA. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it...don't miss this one..you will find yourself turning the pages to see what happens next.
Cynthia Woolf always has a wonderful story line and characters you want to know, well, most of them. There are a few that you’re glad are only in the book. Adam is one of those characters you would love to know. He has a caring heart and will be the perfect dad for Christina and husband for Charlotte. I totally enjoyed this book.
Charlotte is eight and a half month's pregnant but needs to escape from her vicious brother in law, who has kept her locked up. She rides off in a snowstorm, comes of her horse in drift and is rescued by Adam, who ends up delivering her baby. Then her past catches up with her, will Adam be able to save her? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I received a free advance review copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. Another good story from Woolf. Charlotte is running from a bad situation when Adam rescues her. I really liked this book and recommend it.
Widowed and pregnant, Charlotte is in the run from her brother in law who insists on marrying her. Trapped in a blizzard, Adam comes to her and it takes off from there. Soon her past comes back with a vengeance. Such a good read. I loved both Charlotte and Adam so much.
This was a very sweet story of love found in an unusual place. Definitely a feel-good book but also contains some excitement as well! That's what I love about Cynthia Woolf's writing...she knows how to write a sweet story with enough of the unexpected to keep it from being predictable.
Awesome stories from Cynthia Wolfe. Love them all, each and everyone. These are wholesome stories that have the right amount of characters and romance.
I loved the ro who although he beleives he's not worth the company cuz of pass mistakes vows to take her to safety. Read this story you wont be dissapointed.mance that builds between the characters. She's running for her life and the life of her unborn child in the middle of a snow storm luckily she's rescued by a giant of a man
What a delightful clean read that reminds of what is truly important in life which is family and the love they give us. I can’t think of anything worse than being pregnant and on the run in the middle of a blizzard on horseback. What it must have felt like to have the fear of not knowing if you would live or die why delivering your own baby. I can relate to Charlotte knowing how scared I was delivering my first child the unknown, the fear will she be ok but to be alone in a blizzard is just mind blowing. Ms. Woolf brings to life most of our worse fears giving them life bring our heart to our throats waiting to see if mother and daughter will live. Just when we think they will not make it a stranger comes and saves the day not only taking care of the pretty half frozen lady but helping a new life into the world.
This was really a very touching read from the abuse of Charlotte husband’s family to the touching way love grows between Charlotte and Adam. I really enjoyed watch Adam fall for both mother and daughter. Learning of what happen to Charlotte’s husband really has your heart reaching out to her. Than to see how his family dealt with her and what they expected just about breaks your heart. Just when you think your heart can’t take anymore you learn of Adam’s past and why he thinks he isn’t good enough for Charlotte. Ms. Woolf gives you characters you can relate to as she gives you a story that hooks you from the first page. She packs a lot of information in this short read. Every word she writes gives us useful information. You will not find any filler here what you do find is a heartwarming read that you get lost in.
I would have likes to have known how her husband’s family dealt with all that happened. I just do not see them walking away not knowing or letting her go so easy. I felt her brother-in-law got what he deserved. I loved the epilogue it was so touching and really warmed my heart. I really enjoyed the supporting characters their support was felt all the way to my soul. What a delightful little town that takes care of its own. What a pleasure to be able to live in such a town where people didn’t turn their backs when you were in trouble or in need of help. This is a story that grabs you attention from the first page. It was a story I didn’t want to end I just really loved these characters. If you love a story with soul, feelings, needs and strength this is one you should read it will warm your heart leaving you with a smile. Come take the journey that this author has laid out before you in this delightful plot.
I received a free copy but voluntarily reviewed it.
A Family for Christmas is referred to as a Montana Sky Series Kindle World book. That means that this book is based on Debra Holland’s Sweetwater Springs and Morgan’s Crossing series. It takes place in the 1880s in Montana just as Ms. Holland’s books do. Besides the setting, each author creates their own story. Therefore, it is not necessary to read Debra Holland’s books in order to understand this.
This book takes place on December 24, 1887. Pregnant Charlotte Walker Is riding her horse in the middle of a blizzard. It is obvious that she is running away from something or someone.
When Charlotte’s horse falls, she flies over his head and lands in the very deep snow. She is unable to get up, and she is sure she will die there. However, Adam Masters rescues her and carries her to his cabin which is close by. When her water broke, it was necessary for Adam to deliver her baby. Afterward, Adam, Charlotte and her baby are stuck in his cabin until the snow slows down, and Charlotte and her baby, Christina, are physically able to leave.
This novel is a slight departure for Cynthia Woolf. Although Ms. Woolf is a romantic-western author, she usually writes about mail order brides. In spite of that, she does a fantastic job writing the story of Adam, Charlotte and Christina. The characters are well-developed and the plot is simple but interesting.
This is the kind of book that I call a “feel-good” book. I usually read romantic suspense novel which are deep and thought-provoking and, quite often, are violent. Therefore, eventually I have the desire to read something lightweight and fun. Although this book has several problems that need to be solved, Adam, Charlotte and Christina live happily together.
For readers who like to read short books with no graphic sex or violence, A Family for Christmas is the perfect book. Even though the couple lives together in this cabin, they respect each other and do not have any kind of sex, thus preserving the morals of the time.
I had a hard time putting this book down. It felt like it could have been a real story set during Christmas in the 1880’s. I could have been there or even been Charlotte. Charlotte Walker is running from the only home (and town) she has ever known. She is widowed and her late husband’s brother thinks she now belongs to him. If she doesn’t run, she and her unborn child may be in for a horrible life she doesn’t want. However, she is running away during a blizzard. Now she is lost, cold, worried, and her horse just tossed her into a large snow drift. Hope is lost as she yells for help. Adam Masters lives near Morgan’s Crossing by himself. He thinks he hears someone calling for help, but this is a blizzard and that can’t be right. Except it is, he finds a pregnant, half frozen women on his property in a snow drift. He pulls her out and takes her and her horse home. Now the fun starts. She goes into labor and he must deliver the baby. Once the baby come and they have time to talk and wait for the snow to melt some so he can take them to town. Adam thinks he just might be falling for Charlotte and baby. Though Adam will not let that happen he is still grieving for his late wife and child. He is not ready to try again, or is he? The more time Charlotte spends with Adam the more she falls for him, but is she ready to try again? Adam takes Charlotte and baby to town so she can move on. It is there that her late husband’s brother finds them, and he is going to force her and her child to go with him. Luckily for her the people she is staying with don’t want that to happen. Now with this trouble following her what can she do? Will Adam protect her and her child, or will they be forced back where she doesn’t want to be? Can Adam take another change on love? Will Charlotte open her heart to Adam and move forward?

Very good story and a short read of only 98 pages I know this will be read again when I get more time. Charlotte Walker is very pregnant and a widow after her husband Rory a deputy was killed during a bank robbery, and Rory’s brother wants her ,he scares her so she runs into a snow storm. Adam Masters is a loner who lives outside of the town he finds Charlotte in the snow ready to deliver her baby, after he delivers her daughter he takes them to Morgan's Crossing thinking they will be safe. Are they? What happens? I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
