Men of the Misfit Inn #3.5

Until We Meet Again

Rate this book
Freshly sprung from the Marines, Griffin Powell is looking for some fun. Las Vegas offers the perfect playground to blow off some steam before getting to the serious work of deciding what to do with his life. He never expects that fun to include the high school crush who tutored him years ago.

Samantha Ferguson arrives in Vegas for a friend's wedding only to get dumped by text. Desperate not to be the only single in a sea of couples, she makes an impulsive offer to the former bad boy she used to tutor in high school: Be her fake boyfriend for the weekend.

Griff knows he's not the guy for Sam, but he can't resist saying yes for the chance to get to know this grown-up version of the girl who once starred in all his dreams. Turns out, there's not a lot of faking it involved. Between the single bed and the endless couples activities, new feelings flare from the old, until they both fall under the spell of Sin City.

Will what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas? Or will one impulsive weekend be the start of a brand new forever?

*NOTE TO READERS: This is a prequel novella and does not end with a HEA or HFN. Their story continues in COME A LITTLE CLOSER.

Just rip my heart out why dontcha?!?!?

Ok, ok. I’m not allowed to grumble. Nolan gave tons of notice that this is a prequel novella and doesn’t end on a HFN/HEA.

This starts as an adorable story about Sam, who tutored Griff in high school, meeting him again in Vegas where he gets to step in as her plus one for a wedding. Loved their chemistry and the fact that they discovered they had both been smitten with the other years ago. All the Vegas excursions were fun. They’re both thinking this could easily be more, but is it just a fantasy or is it real?

The ending had me in tears and I’m immediately starting Come a Little Closer.

Narration:
Amy McFadden is great as usual. Nolan’s writing has all the emotions in addition to a few quirky characters and McFadden is wonderful at brining that to life in a way reading never could. I love Griff and Sam. Chloe completely cracked me up. That emotional cliffhanger.

I love the sweet and adorable love that is set up as a prequel to the full novel. I love all the things that happens, each one adding an “awww” factor as much as the one before. I cannot wait to read the full story!!!

ARC for honest review with no compensation Received from BookSprout 4.5 stars This book is a cliffhanger but so worth it!!

Until We Meet Again is book 3.5 in the Men of Misfit Inn by Kait Nolan and prequel to Come a Little Closer book 4 in this series.

This is the beginning of Samantha Ferguson and Griffin Powell’s story. They were friends in high school, she was his tutor and he was the bad boy who got in trouble and he had accept the judge’s ruling…jail or military. He chose the military, 4 yrs later he leaves the military and heads to Las Vegas to decide what’s next in his life when he runs into Samantha at the airport. She is there for her college roommate’s wedding…he becomes her plus one.

Hidden feelings from long ago, wedding chapel, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas or does it…guess we will have to wait for the next book to find out…

Let me start off that the author warns this is a cliffhanger. This book gives us the background story of the full novel coming. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one. I thought it was so romantic that Griff and Sam both had a crush on each other in high school but the other didn’t know. Griff was a bad boy back then, and Sam was the smart geek. I know Sam was shocked to run into Griff in Las Vegas. It was kismet as Sam’s boyfriend just broke up with her and she needed a plus one for a wedding. Griff just got out of the military and didn’t have any plans. It was so heartwarming watching the two get to know each other again and fall in love. The ending was sad so I can’t wait for the next book. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

I loved Until We Meet Again! It is a prequel novella to the upcoming novel Come a Little Closer. This is not a stand alone story, but it is a part of the story you don’t want to miss!
Do you ever read along and wonder “what happened to her”? If so, this is your story! This is the drama before the happily ever after. This is the first chance of the second chance romance. It’s so good!
Reformed bad boy Griff, a marine transitioning to civilian life, and Samantha, the good girl that Griff doesn’t know was responsible for sending him to the marines, finally get to fan the old high school flames they secretly had burning for each other when they happen to run into each other in Vegas. Talk about being in the right place at the right time! Sometimes what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but sometimes you want to take it home…BUT GRIFF….
I absolutely can’t wait for Come A Little Closer to get the rest of Griff and Samantha’s story and their happily ever after!

This story is a prequel to the full story of Griffin and Samantha. They knew each other in high school and had crushes but never told the other. 4 years later a chance run in in Las Vegas leads to a fake relationship/real relationship. But Griffin still doesn’t feel like he deserves Samantha. He was a bad boy in high school and made bad decisions. He wants to be what he believes is worthy of Samantha and in the end leaves her with a note and a broken heart. While I normally hate cliffhangers, I really liked this background story to get me ready for the full love story of these two.

Love the Men of Misfit Inn!

Absolutely loved this prequel to the next book in the Men of Misfit Inn series! Great story around two high school kids who "liked" each other but never got together. We meet them again as adults and just when they click we are off to the next story. Kait Nolan once again does a great job of showing us how imperfect people become the hero's of our heart. I can't wait to read the next book in the series to find out how they find each other again. Thank you Kait for keeping them coming!

Sometimes being stuck at home is a win - for the readers! Kait says she wrote this while she was stuck in COVID confinement but I think we were the winners. Sam and Griff? Not so much. Kait always does such a great job filling out her stories in her novels. She still manages to do it in this novella. Splendidly. This one is a little racier than her usual stories but holy hotness! My heart aches for Sam and Griff. I can't wait to see if they get their HEA in their full novel. January can't come fast enough.

This is an absolutely an amazing prequil to what looks like an amaing book. Sam is the nerdy geek girl who was also the tutor for one of the star football players, Griff. After several years Griff gets out of the Marines and they run into each other in Vegas. They meet at the airport after their seperate flights landed. They took some time to catch up and when they where about to part Sam comes up with a crazy idea that sets the pace for a very interesting weekend. In the end Griff hurts Sam and no one knows what happens next! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and am looking forward to the end as much as I am

Chance meeting, timing and young love. What a great place for it all to happen…what could go wrong?

Full for spontaneous and whirlwind romance, this is a great prequel for a deeper dive into these characters’ lives. I can’t wait to revisit old friends at the Misfit Inn!

I am still spellbound! That prequel, which could also have had a high school prologue, really got to me! Read it in one sitting! I cannot wait for their HEA. To help me wait, I think I will re-read Our Kind of Love where we meet Griffin since he is Kyle’s bodyguard… waiting!

Exactly as described! Was not disappointed by this prequel. A nice tease to keep me waiting for the release of the full length book. I love a good Vegas story. What happens in Vegas does not always stay in Vegas though. Can't wait to see what happens.

Griff and Sam have sooo much sexual tension. This was a short fun read about their love blossoming. It ends in a devastating heartbreak that will no doubt be difficult to reconcile. I can’t wait to read their full second-chance (or would this technically be their third??) story.

This is a great book and I almost wish I read it after I read Sam & Griffin's story but when one of Kait's books land in my lap I can't help myself. I think Until we Meet Again touches at the heart of every romantic. What would you do if you found the person you had a crush on at school felt the same? To find yourselves both single, both in Vegas for the weekend what else is there to do but to act upon those feelings, no strings attached, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. But what if there are strings, what if there are truths told, what if there is a trip to an all night chapel, what if...... This book is going to leave you salivating for Come A Little Closer, don't say you haven't been warned. Oh and there's no happy ending, but a very very nice beginning to a story yet to be told.

This sneak peek of Griffin and Samantha is just enough to leave you waiting for their HEA. It was an interesting weekend for a couple that had met in high school and crossed paths years later in Vegas. Can't wait for their story.

Samantha and Griffin went to school together and went off their own ways until they meet up in Vegas. In true Vegas style, what happens there stays there and I can not wait until their book comes out to see how their story plays out. This novella is their back story of a chance meeting and a friends wedding weekend that turns into their own love story.

I could not put this down. And I cannot wait until Come a Little Closer is available to finish Griffin and Samantha’s story!

Griff and Sam knew each other in high school and happen to run into each other in Las Vegas several years later. A high school crush, Vegas, and a wedding…what could possibly happen?

As promised in the opening—not a happy ending, but such a fantastic story! This novella is such a cool way to introduce the characters. The Men of Misfit Inn do not disappoint, but man, they make some silly decisions! Lol. Loved it! Can’t wait for the full book!

I'm hooked. I can't wait. "Come a Little Closer" can't come soon enough!!! That about sums up my reveiw of "Until We Meet Again". For anyone who doesn't know, this prequel (and its forth coming book) are a part of the "Men of the Misfit Inn" series. Each of the books is about one of the men who spent time at the home of Joan Reynolds as a part of the foster care system. This story is about Griffin Powell. (Some of you may remember him from "Our Kind of Love", another in the Misfit Inn series.) Griffin is out of the Marines and ready to enjoy the next phase of his life. I really enjoyed the way that Griffin's seatmate on the plane and her friends were from Wishful, Mississippi. For those of you who are not familiar with Kait Nolan, she wrote a small town series called the "Wishful Romance" series. The women on the plane were just as nosy and curious in this book as they were in the Wishful books and made for a fun way to segue to the Men of Misfit Inn series. I love when characters crossover from one book/series to another and Nolan made this really entertaining to read. I have to say, that I was a little surprised at the idea that Griffin wanted to go to Las Vegas when he first gets out of the military. He states his reason in the story but considering it later leads to unhappy thoughts of his father, it felt an odd choice of places to go. Other than that, Nolan did a great job in writing "Until We Meet Again" as the background to "Come a Little Closer". Knowing that this was a cliffhanger, I would highly recommend this book and lookforward to the next installment of Griff's and Sam's story.

Until We Meet Again is a prequel novella for the upcoming Men of Misfit Inn novel. It does not end in a happily ever after, but is the origin of Griff and Sam. Sam gets dumped on the way to her friend’s wedding in Vegas when she bumps into Griff, a man she had a crush on in high school and a man who just agreed to be her plus one. As they reconnect, sparks fly, and they can’t help but want more. But when morning comes, will the magic of Vegas fade away any chances of more?

Oh my goodness, you know right away that this is a novella that sets up everything for the future. It was pretty emotional watching two people who never quite fit find a perfect match with each other. Sam and Griff had so many emotions, and I loved that shades of their high school life kind of peaked through here and there, their crushes, their mistakes, and the choices they made to set their current life in motion. Sam is a romantic. She’s full of life and wonder and wants so badly to reach out for the good and make it work. She’s loyal and believes in the good of others. Griff feels a bit jaded from his past choices. He so badly wants to be the man that Sam thinks he is, but doesn’t feel like he deserves it. I loved watching him open up to love and having Sam try to heal some of his hurts. Even though I had an idea of what was coming, it was hard to read! It was emotional! It was a beautiful beginning, if only they could trust what they have. I am so looking forward to the full novel of Griff and Sam and can’t wait to see all of the bumps and hurdles they’ll face in their future!

This is the prequel of Come A Little Closer which releases 1/14/22. The author is very clear that this book is the background to the coming book and that it ends in a cliffhanger. I received an arc of Come A Little Closer and at the beginning the author made sure that arc readers were aware of the prequel, that the arc could be read without it, and that we would probably want to read the prequel anyway. I immediately stopped and grabbed it because I prefer to read in order when possible. Do you need the prequel to read the book? No. That said, I am so very glad I read the prequel first. The background of Grif and Samantha is detailed and I am so glad got to read that. This prequel is written in third person from an alternating dual POV.

I really loved getting to know where both characters were in their life at 22. I loved being with them as they experienced Vegas together and fall in love while pretending to be in a relationship. I loved being part of the memories that shape their reactions in the future. I really enjoyed their physical chemistry and hot moments. The tender moments brought tears to my eyes. Knowing it ends in a cliffhanger, I kept trying to predict how it was going to fall apart. When that moment comes, I was just as devastated as the main character.

This steamy prequel is something you will want to read before you start the book, even though you don't have to to enjoy the book completely.

Okay. Kait warns - more than once - from the beginning that Until We meet Again is a Prequel Novella that ends in a Cliffhanger because it’s Sam and Griff’s backstory for the Novel: Come A Little Closer, which is a second chance romance. But this little novella is a perfect love story; and the more I read, the more I thought “There’s NO WAY these two are not going to end up so in love in THIS NOVELLA, that there’ll have to be an HEA NOW - not 8 years later!!” But the journey is worth the cliff drop folks! The friends these two become, in-spite of the sizzling chemistry, lays a wonderful foundation for when their paths cross again 8 years later. You don’t want to miss this story about their origin!! By the time you get to the cliff’s edge, you’ll be in love with these two characters and their relationship that began in high school when Sam was tutoring the handsome football star, but neither acted on their attraction, only to find themselves thrown together again in Las Vegas. I plan on reading Until We Meet Again at least once more before Come A Little Closer is released, because I want their backstory fresh in my mind as I begin what I know will be a VERY SATISFYING romance with an HEA; and because this novella is fun and heartwarming and I want to share their adventures again when I need a really well-written short story.

When Griffin Powel, one of Joan’s kids, and Samantha Ferguson, his former high school classmate and tutor, bump into each other in the Las Vegas airport’s baggage claim area, the timing is perfect for both of them. It’s been years since they’ve seen each other, but Samantha is on her way to a wedding, and her boyfriend has just dumped her via text. Griffin has just separated from the Marines after a four-year stint. All he wants is to spend his time in Vegas, hitting the all-you-can-eat buffets. Griff agrees to be Samantha’s plus-one for the weekend’s wedding. Will their pretend relationship turn into a real one?

This was a fun and steamy read. Griff and Samantha have sizzling chemistry. However, as the author makes very clear, this is a prequel and ends on a cliffhanger. I usually dislike cliffhanger endings, but this is done so well, and with the promise of the main book, Come a Little Closer, to follow very soon. I’m eager to read the rest of this couple’s story; I suspect it will be worth the wait.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book from the author through Booksprout. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.

You can't miss this one before you start reading Come A Little Closer! Samantha and Griffin's prequel is sweet, swoon, and sexy. I really love their friends to lovers trait and I think this is quite their second chance too. The story is well written and entertaining to read. It feels good that Nolan mentions some of her old characters in this... it makes me miss Wishful so badly. And while Griffin and Sam's hot as hell chemistry is flowing through the book, their friendship is beautiful and wonderful too. In short, I feel heartbroken for Griffin's angst and Sam's struggle. But I think Sam is good for Griffin because she is like a sunshine to his darkness and she makes him want to be a better man. It is a little bit heartache to read the ending but it is the prequel so we get to see them back together soon which I can't wait by the way. But until then, I would feel reckless and want to know how Griffin would win Sam back. This is so excited!

I loved this prequel novella featuring Griffin and Samantha. While they were in high school Samantha would tutor Griffin and crush him without realizing that the same was happening to him. In their senior year of high school, Griffin got in serious trouble and got a choice either the military or prison. Years later Griffin is out of the military and decides to go to Vegas before going home. He doesn't expect that Sam is going to bump into him at the luggage carousel in the Las Vegas airport. Sam can't believe it when she sees Griffin standing in front of her. Sam is in Vegas for the weekend attending a wedding and her boyfriend dumped her while she was landing. When her friends ask her if Griffin is her boyfriend she's stumped. After that Sam asks Griffin to play along not realizing that something huge will come of it. Sam puts her trust in Griffin only for him to leave her without a word. How is Sam going to react when she sees Griffin again? This latest addition to the series is a novella and a prequel to Come a Little Closer. Though the author classifies it as ending in a cliffhanger, I prefer to call it a teaser in case, if like me, you are not a fan of cliffhangers 😊
Griffin Powell, a Marine, is in Vegas for a break, not sure of his future. Imagine his surprise when he crosses path with Samantha Ferguson, the one girl that was always nice to him in HS. While he was the “bad boy” , she was the brilliant student who tutored him.
Samantha is in Vegas for a wedding and now without a date since her boyfriend just dumped her. What to do but grab Griff and introduce him as her boyfriend.
From that moment on feelings that were dormant blossomed . But Griff doesn’t think he’s good enough for Samantha. What happens when he does the unthinkable?
This is a story worth your time. Only downside is the wait for, Come a Little Closer.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
