Secrets between spouses can be killer... Especially when only one person knows the truth of what’s really going on.
Matt and Cara have a wonderful marriage. At least, that’s why they want everyone to think. But when secrets start to build up between the two of them, Matt decides on a move so they can have a fresh start.
He thinks that moving from the busy city of Chicago to a little town in Tennessee should allow them both a chance to reinvent who they are. Unfortunately for him, Cara doesn’t want anything to change.
She wants everything to continue as it always has, and when they slip back into their old habits, people start to die.
Truth can’t be hidden forever, and when it finally comes out, just one of them will survive.
Two people can keep a secret only when one of them is dead.
Emily lives in the mountains of North Carolina and loves hiking with her dogs--only when she's not thinking up twisted tales, that is. She loves books that keep you up long after you should be in bed.
In the first several chapters I got a strong Stepford Wives vibe . . . Katie cheated with a coworker and now Matt moves them to a small town for a fresh start. He clearly has a motive. But she has some ideas of her own it seems . . . And it took several chapters to gauge how much each knew of the other's intentions.
"He had his little bag of trophies, and I had mine."
This was a pretty good read; solid plot, interesting characters, mystery, tension, unexpected twists. But the writing was sub par--repetitive and juvenile--and errors pulled me out of the story many, many times. Otherwise, a good thriller. The two main characters are people you love to hate and can't wait to see them both go down in flames for their dirty deeds, but my favorite character had to be Mary Quite Contrary. She stirred this pot properly.
2.5 stars generous as this is so Not my thing,silly... the Infidelity is a Non sequitur that spawns a murderous wife , the "thrilling " follow up twist " is a neighborhood trio of murderous estrogen fueled loons.Includes a ludicrous plot device of husbands abrupt personality transplant close to finale... his set up and bloody demise.🙄

I need to commence by stating that the copy of this book sent to my Kindle via Kindle Unlimited was fraught with spelling and grammatical errors. Unfortunately this isn't the first book to be sent to me in need of serious editing but I did not allow this to affect my rating or review of the story.
Insane is the first word that comes to mind in describing this ridiculous but none the less compelling story. Katie is married to Matt. She has an affair with a colleague while they're living in Chicago and by way of atonement she allows Matt a free pass to have a one night stand with someone. The trouble is Matt enjoys this discretion so much that he doesn't stop philandering. A bigger problem is that Katie knows about all his one night affairs and the biggest problem is that Katie gets off on taking care of each woman he meets. By way of making a new start Matt gets a job offer and moves his family to a small area in Tennessee. Imagine his surprise when Katie suggests he continues his indiscretions on certain provisos. He can only see a woman once and never contact her again. All his liaisons also have to be selected and set up by her via a dating app. Crazy, implausible and at times ridiculous, this remained a page-turner. 4 stars
This is my 2nd novel of the amazing author Emily Shines and let me tell you it was mind blowing!! It had so many twists and turns, you thought u knew what's going on and then something brilliant happens, so yeah absolutely amazing story I can't wait to read the next book! 😊
She Knew He Lied by Emily Shiner: Shocking, Astounding, Killer.
This story stars Katie & Matt, a couple with a teenage son moving from the busy city of Chicago to the quaint town of Maryville, Tennessee. As you get into the story you see how the modern, happy, normal couple with a fenced in yard isn’t always what it seems.
Matt expects change in this book, but as most of us know you can only achieve change in a relationship when both of you want that, and Katie will fight to not have her life change, even if the locations are different.
Emily takes you through a story that you would think is mundane with a bit of a control issue and blows it out of the water. When you think you know what’s happening, she throws a wrench into your suspicions and you’ll never fully recover until you finish the book- and even then, you’ll never be the same after you turn the last page. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat wondering if you really know your partner as much as you think you do.
Two people can keep a secret only when one of them is dead.
She Knew He Lied is a gripping story written by Emily Shiner. This story will definitely keep you on the edge as you continue to read the story of Katie. What starts out as a small indiscretion leads to several murders but the person commiting the murders will surprise you as well as the reason why. The ending is definitely jaw dropping and brings even more murders out in the open. I enjoyed this story very much except for a couple of comments which made me reduce my rating. When the author makes rude comments about Goldendoodle I almost quit reading this story. I own a Mini Goldendoodle and couldn't ask for a smarter, easy trainable, and loveable dog. So instead of a five star rating which the author would have received I only gave her a four.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached to post a favorable response and all opinions are my own.
Matt and Katie are a married couple living in Chicago. Katie has the first affair, but then allows her husband, Matt, a hall pass to do the same. Matt decides the best decision for them is to move to Tennessee. They meet their new neighbors, Mary and Georgia, who Katie keeps at a distance. What Matt doesn't know is what his wife does after he has each affair. Even more questionable is when she starts arranging the affairs for him.
If you just want to escape and you like to be totally creeped out, I guess you could enjoy this. I was able to predict the ending less than halfway through and kept getting hung up on grammatical errors plus it creeped me out. Definitely not going on my list of favorites
This novel started out a little slow but then it got interesting! The whole novel had little twists that kept making it second guess everything!
The characters were likeable and relatable, with a lot of secrets mixed in together! Overall it was an enjoyable read, and I would definitely recommend it to people who love a little twist here and there!
Could be one of the worst books I’ve read. It was free on my kindle, so I read it in about four hours. Dumb plot, ridiculous characters, and poor writing! It was a thriller which is the only reason I finished it. Should have known because I read another of Emily Shiner’s books, “The Bad Nanny” and it was equally as bad. I’ll stay away from her books.
What a thriller. Very chilling. Very strange. I have so many thoughts, so many things I want to say but I just can't say them without giving away the plot. Get past the parts of infidelity and you will be probably be as floored as I was.
I just finished She Knew He Lied and have to admit it was hard to put down. Lots of twists and sometimes ridiculously hard to believe, but I enjoyed it. The ending was not at all what I suspected.
Three and a half stars. A clever and unconventional premise with lots of twists and a surprise ending. This domestic thriller will definitely be a fast summer read. But be prepared for a different kind of female heroine.
Page turner for sure, tons of twists and sometimes hard to believe. Between the infidelity + murdering, I couldn't put it down. I didn't see the ending coming at all. But I feel like I needed more from the ending, like did she find her release? How did Henry take it?
I went into this book completely blind. I have to say that the plot shocked me and wasn't what I was expecting. This book keeps you guessing and wanting more. I wasn't a fan of the ending at all because it just stops.
